Ask the Community - Fair Theatre

Are cross dressers allowed in this place?

Yes they are I been there and saw them

So mostly men and trans go here not a single woman?and wat days and times are popular

Here and there rarely women are there. Sometimes with a group of friends, sometimes with the boyfriend. Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening are the busiest.

What happens here? What type of crowd?

    Sodom and Gomorrah

Can can I walk around wearing only stockings a bra garter belt?

That is probably crossing the line. You might get away with it in some of the areas. This is my opinion.

    Can you go alone?

    YES

    Can i bring mu wife?

YES, but a weekday evening might be better to test it out to see if it's for you and you can handle it. It is not true that everyone going here is gay. I have seen M/F couples enter, but rarely only.

    Couples can go there?

It's untrue that only men are allowed. This theater is open to the public and not a private club. No adults are turned away. a M/F couple entering is RARE but it does happen.

Do any straight women go in?

No. Only gay men and transvestites

So has the crowd picked up since reopening recently. it Was dead about 3 weeks ago?

yes, it is back in full swing

    ? today will be open

Yes its open seven days a week

    Is it open?

yes it open about a week ago

First, I will say that we purchased our tickets ahead of time to ensure we got the seats we wanted. We got them about 2-3 days beforehand, and it made everything a lot easier. When we arrived, we immediately got into the concession line as we knew we wanted to grab popcorn and some additional snacks. Because we hadn't eaten dinner yet, we also chose to get a pizza to share along with an Icee drink. These two items + a large popcorn cost us about $40 (oof!). So be prepared to spend if you want to snack while you're here. What we wish we would've known before arriving is that you can order your concession snacks via an app! We saw people walking in and going immediately to the "hot food ready" spot where they told the person their number and walked away with their pre-prepared snacks. Had we known this, we could've saved about 20 minutes of standing in line! This is a GREAT tip to remember, y'all! After getting our snacks, we made our way into the theater. Both my husband and I were in awe of the seats!!! All of them had personal "tables" that swiveled, allowing you to get into your seat then pull the little table in front of you so you can comfortably eat your snacks. The cup holders were massive AND, most importantly, ALL seats reclined back to a relaxing position! Not to worry, the row of seats in front of you is so low that when you recline back, you'll still be able to see the entire screen with nothing blocking it. Additionally, the isles of seats were pretty spacious. I got up mid-movie and had very little trouble getting out of my seated row, even with everyone reclined back with their feet up. Also, I wanted to note that they don't have a human that you purchase tickets from - you ca either but them online ahead of time (like we did) or you can purchase them at a kiosk when you first arrive. They do have a customer service desk if you need some help, but just keep this in mind. We live pretty close to this movie theater and look forward to seeing more movies here in the coming months!

To have one right in our borough, in our very crowded city, is such a treat. And it was all free. The second time we went we even got free treats left on our windshield. The staff was amazing. They led us through the maze of metal barricades and cones to the viewing area, made sure we were parked appropriately on the lawn, good enough to view the screen perfectly straight on, and helped us to turn all of our lights off. When we weren't able to tune them all off while still listening to the movie audio on our radio, they came around and lent us a portable radio. That way we could turn the car completely off and listen to the movie audio from their borrowed radio. There was also a food stand, but we had dinner beforehand and brought our own snacks, so we didn't order from them. All in all, a pretty awesome experience for the whole family. Thanks to all the staff and organizations that made it possible!

Great visit to the Museum of Moving Image…read more Finally made it over to Queens to visit the Museum on a Thursday during their Free Thursdays (2pm - 6pm). General admission prices are $20 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $10 for children. Tickets are NOT required for their Free Thursdays, but are required for all other days. The museum is conveniently located just a few blocks away from the Steinway M/R subway stations. There is also street parking in the surroudning area. The first floor has a large tabled cafeteria area which sells lots of cafe-style items. There is also a courtyard there. So many interesting movie and TV-based exhibits throughout the museum's second floor. Great explanations of and insight to the film-making process. The make-up/prosthetic area was particularly interesting which currently features "The Exorcist". There is also a great current exhibit on the Sopranos, diving into the making of the hit television series, taking you through some of its iconic locations. The Jim Henson exhibit was also great and takes you through his decorated career and his contributions to various shows like Sesame Street and the Muppets and movies like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. The third floor contains the technical "making of..." exhibits. It takes you through the cameras, lighting and sound capturing throughout the years. There are some great interactive exhibits on this floor. I was only there for about an hour and a half and found myself running out of time on the third floor. I would easily plan for a 3-hour or so trip to read and experience everything...including maybe a bite at the cafe and some relaxation in the courtyard.

The theater is on the 3rd floor if I recall and there's an elevator available. Upon entering the door, signs lead to a small foyer area with a merch/flyer/marketing table, then on the left it opens up to a lounge/lobby with concession stand. There were a handful of tables and about a dozen seats. A schedule of activities was listed at the foyer area and in the lounge was a booklet with total exhibits available for the Arts Open at a number of different buildings in the immediate LIC neighborhood. Because I arrived late, it wasn't immediately apparent where to enter, and there weren't any staff immediately discernible outside the attendant at the concessions stand who didn't seem to interact with anyone outside those purchasing drinks or snacks. Thankfully one of the other attendees of the event pointed me towards the closed door on the right, when he saw me looking confused. Inside I realized this was a black box theater*, seating was in the form of stackable chairs placed on wooden risers. I climbed around the side and found a seat and enjoyed the rest of the short films. The configuration was sufficient for about 70 seats. Afterwards as our part was exiting, there were a couple friendly staff or volunteers thanking people for attending. On the same floor the theatre space was encircled by other class rooms and studios, and I wasn't sure if those were part of the same organization or just sharing the space. All in all, I'm glad to have had the chance to visit, and glad that small theaters like this exist, to nurture growing talent interested in performance and visual arts. *meaning simple, adaptable and intimate performance space, usually a rectangular or square room with black walls, where seating and sets can be reconfigured to the needs of a creative vision. By what I researched , it was created to give opportunities for artists ,which is great and also for the ones who are already in the industry to show and expanding their talent . From time to time this place comes with this wonderful Shortplay Festival . It is so exciting and so promising for the actors, directors and writers .However the competition ,turns in disappointment to see excellent work of the participants overlooked. The voting system is led from family members and friends. This current method is unfair to talented actors, writers ,and directors who give their best, but unfortunately the results depend on personal connections instead of artistic merit. A system led by qualified judges would make the festival stronger, fairer, and more true to its mission of supporting learning and creativity. Please reconsider it , to be an excellent place with fair judgments for all artists . If it continues like this ,I don't see the point of artist go through it.Thank you.

The Queens Museum is in the same park that the World's Fair was held in both 1939 and 1964. The park is fantastic and it's fun to take photos in front of the Unisphere. The entry fee for the museum is optional but I paid the suggested $8 per head and thought it was worth it - the museum does not have a lot of exhibits but what is there is super interesting! The main attraction is the giant Panorama of the City of New York. It's a continually updated map of the city with buildings and even tiny scale model airplanes taking off and landing. The lights in the room brighten and dim to simulate day and night, and during nighttime, the lights in the buildings come on. Only Far Rockaway was left off the map due to space considerations. I am a map geek, so this was heaven for me! They also have a room with memorabilia from both World's Fairs, and map of the 1964 World's Fair that is similar to, but smaller than, the Panorama. There is a great exhibition on Tiffany glass lamps. Not only was the display of lamps absolutely gorgeous, the information about the history of the glassworks in Queens (a factoid I was not aware of!) and the process for making the glass was fascinating. Less interesting to me, but fascinating to Larry, was the relief map of the NYC water supply system. The Queens Museum is absolutely a great stop if you are in the area!
