Watched The Mummy Returns (2001): 25th Anniversary Movie Party at Alamo. Originally booked tickets thinking it was just a regular showing, but it turns out Alamo's "Movie Parties" come with extra perks. Each guest had themed movie props/goodies laid out at their table, which was a nice surprise. The hosts were fully dressed in The Mummy Returns outfits from head to toe. One of the them came in front of the screen before the movie started and introduced the movie with a bunch of fun facts and an entertaining bit. Super glad we went. It was really fun. I didn't order food or drinks this time. However, I've had drinks and the loaded fries at Alamo before, and they were fantastic. My first visit to an Alamo Drafthouse was the one in lower Manhattan to see a matinee of The Odyssey on a Sunday afternoon. It was the day of the final game of the World Cup between Spain and Argentina. Going to the Alamo Drafthouse is definitely an experience. I've heard it described as being for "film geeks," and I can attest to that. There is a major emphasis on Kim's Video, the old VHS video store, giving it a major retro vibe. The people who work at the front desk have film cred, which just adds to the vibe. When the movie was over, we were able to stop in at the drafthouse, which was open by the time the movie ended, and the World Cup game was being shown on a huge screen, so we got to see the final minutes of the match. All in all, a great experience for me, though my companion was not entirely enthralled by the concept of being waited on at your seat. I didn't mind it, though I don't see it as a necessity for the experience. That's the only reason it's a 4-star review & not a 5-star. read more

This movie theater is a little difficult to find, you have to walk into the Chase building and navigate down two flights of stairs (follow the signs) before you actually get to the venue! Ticket prices were very reasonable (we saw Devil wears Prada 2 and it was around $18? For two adults). Where they make the real money is in the concessions! One margarita was around $17. We were able to order food and drinks through the QR code by our seat, but it took a very long time for the food and drinks to arrive. My friend was also accidentally charged for 2 drinks instead of 1, but we were able to talk to the staff and they fixed it for us. Still a nice facility to see a movie but seems to be now severely understaffed and understocked. Went to see Mission Impossible- The Final Reckoning (good movie). We arrived 30 minutes before the movie start time and were quickly ready to put in our food and drink order. There was only one server assigned to the packed theater and she wasn't able to take our order until after the movie started. The server was friendly and doing her best but it was just too many customers for her to cover. To add to this, we ordered one of the special Macaroni and Cheese dishes that Alamo had added to the menu especially for this movie and we were told during the movie that they were sold out of Macaroni and Cheese! This was at a showing on the evening of the official opening night and they were already sold out - disappointing. I used to love this theater. I thought the food was good and loved the novelty of the ordering experience. At both the Manhattan and Brooklyn locations, you were able to escape into a bit of nostalgia and enjoy the theatre. Now, the food has gone down hill. The ordering experience has a QR code where you have to login to WiFi, enter your information, and your card info in the dark while previews are blaring at you. No paper towels in both the dispensers in the restrooms. It's such an expensive treat to go to the movies, and now it is just not worth it. read more

I'm no stranger to the Alamo Drafthouse brand. Ever since they first entered the NY Metro market in 2013 with the opening of the Yonkers location, I have been a fan. While I do not patron the aforementioned location as much as I used to (mainly due to programming, which is a separate topic), I still believe they deliver an elevated moviegoing experience and as such, hold a season pass. Anyway, there was a limited release I really wanted to see and noticed that only the Lower Manhattan location was showing it. Since my work schedule allowed it, I booked a ticket and made my way downtown. Drafthouse sets itself apart from other theater brands by showing a mix of classic, independent, and blockbuster films. Additionally, they have a full menu of food, and have a strict no talking/texting/lateness policy. Like the Brooklyn location, this theater is located in a multi-use complex at 28 Liberty Street a few escalator rides downstairs. As you enter, you're greeted by the box office, a section of merch, and a bar with some seating. Past the box office and down some stairs is a Kim's Video which contains a large selection of media for sale; this is also where the theaters are located. I was seated in theater 1 which had recliners and individual tables at each seat to place food. The theater looked great and has a lot to offer outside of actual film. Overall my experience was similar to that at other Alamos - service was good and all house rules were enforced. While there has been more competition over the years with theaters aiming to elevate the moviegoing experience, Alamo continues to deliver a service that makes me return time after time. read more

This is such a nice location. I stopped here to watch a screening for a ITV show that will be coming out next month in July 20 25 the staff was able to assist us right away. They were very friendly. The place was really clean. We were seated in theater 11, which is a very small theater with only three rows by the time we had ordered the tickets. There was only the front row that was left. It was a little close to the screen, but well enough to see the screen without an issue. We placed food to eat, and we were able to pay with Apple Pay, which was a big help since we forgot our physical cards at home. This isn't good to know because because we always pay through Apple Pay. This place also has a VHS and DVD rental for old school movies to watch and if you don't have a VHS or DVD cassette you can write one as well for 20 bucks for days. We will be returning to this theater when we are able to because we really want to go through the collection of movies that they had. read more

For specifics, see my prior review. I've never made a big habit of going to the theater for movies because I always end up with jerks sitting next to me. Alamo Drafthouse makes things fun and they don't let the assholes win. I've been a few times, and this the first time someone was talking and texting next to me. They addressed it immediately and explained the rules were strict, and if they didn't stop, they would be removed. I love coming to this location because they have (semi) reclining seats & individual tables (compared to the Brooklyn location). The theater and bathroom is always clean and the wait staff in the theater are attentive and friendly. I had the salted caramel milkshake and popcorn. This location has become my preferred theater over the Brooklyn location- especially for family friendly showings. This location doesn't get overly crowded during the first showings of the day. They have a family bathroom and a lax noise policy for the Littles on select showings. The food is always great. The seats are really comfy and I love the reclining features. The sweet (can't pronounce the name) cauliflower bite entree. It's served with fries and celery sticks and buffalo ranch (not vegan)/ketchup. I also ordered vegan chocolate chip cookies and seltzer water. It was all delicious but wish they sent order at the beginning of film. I'll do that next time. So, I came here on a date for the first time and I loved the theatre. If you don't know where it is, it could be a little hard to find because it is in the basement of a building. It was a 4pm show on a Friday so it wasn't crowded. I loved that you walk downstairs to a large selection of old school VHS tapes that you can rent as well as vintage movie posters all around. The theater itself was small and cozy which I enjoyed. Also, who doesn't love recliner seats?! I was pretty impressed with their food and cocktail menu for a theater. They had some vegan options on the menu. I had dinner plans after so I didn't go too hard on the food. We got some buffalo wings and the cauliflower bites. Also had two margaritas. The food was decent and the drinks were well made. To order food and drinks you write down what you want on the paper provided and then press the button. Voila! A server appears. I took off one star because the table at your seat stays in place making it hard to eat comfortably without leaning all the way forward. In other dine ins, the table swivels towards you. Once you go Alamo Drafthouse, you can't go back! This movie watching experience is the best I've ever had (and back in the day, I used to watch at least one movie in theaters a week). The place is beautifully decorated with retro movie posters and statues everywhere. It has a cool vibe to it and doesn't feel as corporate as an AMC or Regal. The reclining seats in the theater itself is so comfortable and I absolutely love that they have a full menu and draft beer list here. See, the swift, polite and uttered-many-times-to-others-response was a pleasant box office clerk's friendly HAMMER: "really sorry. It's our policy - but I'll gladly refund you!") Then the other GODLIKE POLICY... RULE THAT RULE TOO 2: All noisy patrons are EJECTED after one or two complaints, no refund! A pre-show bit has a girl running around the movie audience up on the screen, screaming and being chased by hungry zombies. Then it says in writing on the screen as she's being devoured something like "Quiet! Violators ejected or we let the zombies get you!" Followed by "YUM!" Yum indeed. Coming here is such a treat! The service is great and the facilities are so nostalgic. I've been here twice and can't wait to visit again. My only real complaint is I wish the food menu had more options. There is a lot of fried food, but it would be nice to have some grilled and "fresher" options. They do have salads but I do not find them to be the best value compared to the other menu items. A simple poke, grain or mixed bowl would be a perfect addition to their menu. Great alcohol and beverage selection as well ! Treat yourself to a trip to the theater soon. I did get a giggle because the theater entrance is down quite a few long escalators. This theater is an experience! I've never been to a dine in movie theater so this was novel to me; my friend and I had a pretty good experience despite being seated in the front row since the time slot was almost sold out. I've attached a photo below for reference what it's like sitting in the middle of the front row. The screen is close but not as close as a regular movie theater so I wasn't straining my neck too badly. And since I sat in the middle, there was not warping and I was able to see the whole screen. Of course the experience in rows closer to the back is better, but sitting in the front wasn't awful is the point I'm trying to get across! For anyone that's going for the first time, the way it works is when you get seated, the staff comes to check you in and ask for a card to open a tan. To order there is a pen and order card at the seat and you write what you want from the menu then push a button that lights up to alert staff to come pick up your order. Like everyone mentioned, the staff here are speedy and quiet to not disturb the movie experience. I got the unlimited popcorn to share with my friend and the bowl they brought it out in was huge! We didn't even get a chance to refill because of how much there was. read more

I was looking for something to do on my first summer Friday afterwork. I decided to go see a movie. The closet theater to me was Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. When I arrived at the location, I was surprised to find that I walk past this building many of times and never realized there was a movie theater inside. Once I arrived to the theater, it was a small theater with 3 rows. My reservation was for a seat in the front row. I don't like it sit in the front row however, I didn't feel like the screen was blinding me like the bigger movie theaters. I love the fact that you can order from your seat. I ordered a Jack and Ginger and the unlimited popcorn with truffle seasoning. The drink came pretty fast. I was disappointed that my popcorn arrived 45 minutes later, when I was watching a movie under 2 hours. The popcorn was cold and the seasoning was just thrown on top of it. This was disappointing for me b/c popcorn is a necessary part of my movie experience. The popcorn also wasn't delivered in order. People who ordered after me received their popcorn before me. My suggestion would be to please have the popcorn come out in a timely manner. It was a 1pm movie on a Friday, I can't imagine how long the wait would be on a weekend night. read more

The movie theaters I grew up going to had the stickiest of floors, and all they served was the typical popcorn, nachos, candy and soda fare of old theaters. I couldn't imagine what the floors would be like at a place touting booze, a full cocktail menu, endless beers, and a full menu. Thankfully, my fears around stickiness were allayed when I stepped into Alamo, which manages to keep the place clean, especially at this newer location in FiDi. You have to go down an escalator of a huge building to find the theater, tucked away just beyond a kitschy storefront selling old DVD's more for show than for utility. You can order food and drink at your seat, but there's also a bar outside the individual theaters if you have some time to kill before your showtime, which is nice and a smart revenue generator. I had a delicious mezcal margarita. At $17, the drink prices were in line with pricier cocktail bars in the city. I think claiming they serve "award-winning cuisine" is deceptive, or maybe just good marketing jargon because I was disappointed by the basic menu. Loaded fries, mozzarella sticks, sandwiches, pizza, salads, and milkshakes are what you can expect here. I'm not saying I expected haute cuisine but maybe they should just say they have American gastropub fare and call it a day. The movie watching experience was great, with nice big screens, quality sound systems, and seats you can reserve ahead of time. I'd totally watch a movie here again. read more

This movie theatre is in the basement inside a building. Right before the movie entrance there's a bar and a shop. We decided to get a drink before the movie started. We ordered an IPA and a watermelon mezcal margarita. 10 minutes before the movie started we headed downstairs for the movie Cocaine Bear. In the lobby area they have VCR tapes and DVDs for rental called Kim's Video Underground. How cool is that??? The workers check your movie tickets and you can head over to the theatre. The restroom is right before you turn left or right to your theatre room. The theatre sitting is a lot narrower than I thought and not much seating space between the chairs. However, the leg room is spacious in the front. There's also an elongated TV table with a drink holder and underneath a table light with the menu. You have to write down what you want to order (foods and drinks) on a notepad and press a button to signal a waiter to come and take your order. We immediately ordered a baked pretzel, royale with cheeseburger w/ fries, fried chicken & asian slaw, w/ fries, strawberry shake, sprite and a cocktail. We were hungry so we ate everything. Honestly, the foods and drinks are worth it if you're hungry. You get lots of options! The movie screen is huge!!! Despite movement of waiters and people going to the bathroom, you can watch the movie at ease with no issues. There are only 3 rows where I went. We had a great time watching the movie Cocaine Bear. This is an update. I'm still loving the Alamo Drafthouse and I think they are doing a good job maintaining this location. The theaters are smaller but I like the reclining seats. Also, since it's holiday time, they have their holiday menu. I've had their hot chocolate with marshmallows (they have chocolate raspberry and chocolate caramel as well) and you can get sugar cookies. The regular hot chocolate was really good but I had the hot chocolate raspberry and it was way too sweet. The sugar cookies were good. For the most part, I like their food options. Recently, I tried the fried pickles with ranch dressing and I'm all for them. Oddly enough, I prefer the pizza at this location but I prefer the avocado toast at Alamo Drafthouse BK. It beats eating the nachos and corndogs from the other theaters. I pretty much come here for movies and if I cheat on Alamo to go somewhere else, it's because I'm going with someone and they want to go somewhere different. As stated in the other reviews, You have to go several floors below but they have signage to direct you. If you go often, you can accrue freebies--you just have to redeem at the register before going downstairs. Enjoy the show! read more

This is my second time at this movie theater and it's been great both times! The theaters are smaller than the ones at AMC/Regal. The best part is being able to order food/drinks at your seat throughout the entire movie. If people walking by bothers you, probably not the best theater to watch a movie. I also recommend sitting one row behind the first row since it is quite close to the monitor if you're sitting in the first row. Also, they don't take Apple Pay so make sure you have a card or cash with you to pay for the food/drinks. read more

I went there to see The Nun II oh yes I so love all the alamo cinemas because the fact that I don't have to get up and go for my food it's a super duper extra plus and you could press that little red button and they can bring you as much as food you want to all the way down from appetizer to dessert! yes you want wine,beers,coke, ooh daiquiri yes yes yes they have it all minus a blanket cause the AC gets you a bit cold ;) so thank you again Alamo for taking care of me while you guys scared the shit out of with this movie! There are a few other theaters in the area I haven't tried out yet, so I can't compare to much else than AMC and Regal, but I definitely prefer Alamo over those 2. Mannnn this location of Alamo Drafthouse is super duper cool. We're long time fans of Alamo Drafthouse SF and we're excited to try out this newer location. It's hidden somewhat in an office building which makes the fun interior extra surprising. Really loved the store area as well as the Stay Puft/Ghostbusters set up. My son went crazy for it. The theaters were super new and clean, the seats were incredibly comfortable. The tables were a tad too small and made eating not easy but I can see how that's not an easy problem to solve. Even though we were seated on the front row, we were still able to see the whole screen without any neck complaints. The food and drinks were on point and especially the queso was good here. Super friendly staff as well especially given we came here on Thanksgiving. Highly recommend. read more
