I've been to the Kew Gardens Cinema a couple of times. I've always had a pleasant experience. They show films that not many other theaters in NYC show. I came here on Friday to see the new Ralph Fiennes film that no other theater in NY was playing! Very easy to get to. The Kew Gardens LIRR stop is right across the street. Several buses stop in the area. Along with the F and E trains. Its a very old school cinema. The prices reflect that as well. For a 2 PM Friday showing I only paid $10. That's a steal. You can either buy tickets at the concessions stand or just scan your ticket from Fandango, etc. at the concessions stand and they'll print out your ticket. You really don't need it, though. The bathrooms are to the left when you come in. Lots of stalls with a long mirror across the entire wall. Everything was fairly clean and tidy. There's also a little area before the bathroom where you can sit and wait if you're early. I was in auditorium 5 the last time I was here. Which is on the second floor. The size of the theaters are on the smaller size, but not cramped. The seats are outdated and a bit flimsy, but not uncomfortable. They don't show millions of adverts and previews like other places do. The screens expand before the movie starts. Good sound and picture. The entire place is decorated with a vintage vibe. I love it. Everyone was friendly and they dont search your purses like other places do. I will definitely be back! read more

Glad to see Kew Gardens Cinema still around post-pandemic! The $5 Wednesday tickets with no restrictions are a steal. It's an old-school theater with charm, comfy, padded stadium seats in Theater 3 and assigned seating is a nice touch. The bathrooms are outdated (push-button sinks felt unhygienic), and there's no parking lot, but street parking was easy on a weekday night. Kew gardens cinema feels like one of those best kept secret kind of places. They don't have a large selection of movie times but they do have a few movies in rotation. The theaters are beautiful and have plenty of seating. If you are lucky and go on a weekday you can get a whole theater to yourself especially during a matinee. The staff is always really polite. The tickets are cheaper than most of the theaters in the area. The popcorn is always very fresh and tasty. The theater itself is kept very clean and there's plenty of street parking. I can't believe we paid $5 each on Wednesday to see the latest Mission Impossible. This theater is so nice -- the staff is friendly and genuinely helpful, even likable. The theater where we saw the film was intimate, not huge, and the crowd was really good. I was amazed to see them all throwing away their food cartons on the way out -- I never see this in theaters elsewhere. The prices are good other days, too. It seems to be $13 for regular shows. It's a 5 minute walk from the E or F, in a very nice part of Forest Hills. What's not to love? Needless to say, we're going back soon. read more

We love going to this theater. They used to have more indie films but still offer good choices. Prices are fine for the area. Bargain Wednesday is only $5. Seniors are always $10. They have great snacks including chocolate chip cookies. Bathroom is in the lobby and there is a small waiting room with trailers where you can sit before your movie begins. Parking is a little difficult. You often have to ride around a few blocks so allow time to park. Many places to eat on Lefferts and a few blocks up on Metropolitan Avenue. read more

Do not even waste your money here. Yes adults pay $12. Not even worth it. Uncomfortable seats, place is dirty. First 45 minutes i had to watch movie with low volume, had to go outside to complain, their response was they have more complaints than i do. No surround system working anyway. Really enjoyed everything about this movie theater. Wanted to see "House of Gucci". Found this amazing movie theater that was very charming. When you walk into the building, it feels like you stepped into an era of old Hollywood. This theater has been around over 100 years. It has beautiful pictures to reflect the movie stars of that era. No worries the theater has modern fixtures such as comfortable seats, the popcorn was great, as was the concession stand. The staff were equally awesome. This is one of the coolest movie theaters I've been to. Apart from the super cool interior that feels like you're taken back in time to another decade (in a fun, retro way), the tickets are significantly cheaper than your usual theaters for a great experience. The staff is friendly and always ask what movie you're seeing and the snacks are good. They even have alcoholic beverages which is a nice change, plus fresh baked cookies. The seats are more or less your 2000s movie theater seating but do the job. Nice spacious theaters and always clean. Never thought I'd review such a theater like this so highly. It's gives off such an old school vibe. I definitely felt a personal connection with this place unlike any other theater. As of Nov. 11th 2019, Prices are roughly $8.50 to $11 average depending on the day and time you go and 3-D movies are around $13. There's one ticket counter guy, one concessions guy and one ticket taker. That's a total of 3 ppl running the front of the house. A few cleaning crew and I'm sure they have people running the projectors, that's probably under a dozen employees. Any other theaters would have that many people just selling popcorn. The theater seems to focus on the indie films. We watched Parasite which is being called best film of 2019. This film isnt in many theaters because it's a Korean film, but they were showing it here. Don't expect huge screens or spacious theaters but it gets the job done. Don't expect recliner chairs either, but the seats weren't uncomfortable or dirty. There's no parking lot available but we managed to find street parking pretty easily. I loved the vintage 80's movie intro telling us to silence our phones and getting refreshments. It adds a personal touch to the experience. This place feels like a museum that can still play movies and I love it. read more

This has to be the best movie theater in Queens, hands down. I just saw Deadpool & Wolverine and lemme tell you, 5 bucks for a ticket was good enough, but when other big chains are charging 10 bucks for a medium popcorn alone, and here I got a Large Soda AND Popcorn for 10 bucks is a STEAL! Chairs are comfortable, decorations are nice, service was fast and friendly, really digged it. Will be making this my go-to theater from now on. read more

Wonderful vintage movie theater ! Independent, foreign and mainstream films are played here. They have several theaters, allowing for lots of movie options at all times. Delicious popcorn, fabulous movie posters of iconic 20th century film stars. They have built solar panels on the roof-which is very forward for an older building. Just a few blocks walk from E/F trains and a very close walk from LIRR. Tickets are very affordable compared to other movie houses. On Wednesdays, all entries are $5. Given a personal tragedy, I was not able to attend, and manager Justine could not have been more understanding and lovely in her words and actions. I celebrate persons with expansively compassionate leadership qualities that create opportunities when they galvanize our long term loyalty. In this new age of picking your own seats at the multiplex and sometimes paying $15 a pop to see a movie it is so nice to have an independent , local theater showing a great mix of movies. The theater is clean. The seats are comfortable and usually plentiful. I love being able to see movies that are often only being shown in Manhattan here in Queens. Aside from the elderly people who can't even hear in the first place but make a face any time the slightest sound is uttered, this is a pretty decent theater for a number of reasons: - only one in this area (and most of Queens probably) to get the indie releases - crappy seats compared to chains, but they actually have stadium(ish) seating - they offer unsalted popcorn (though the popcorn can be nauseatingly buttery even when not adding butter) - insanely cheap tickets at $8 during the day Even with these compliments, which are all slightly backhanded, I probably still wouldn't really ever choose to come here unless I am stuck in Forest Hills and there is an indie movie I want to see that isn't playing at Midway or Brandon. There isn't really much in the way of anything good to eat around here either, which is another reason I don't look forward to coming here. read more

Kew Gardens Cinema is a little jewel unbeknown to many. An independent theater of four screening rooms showing independent films and foreign films, where a friend and I saw 2011 French film "Intouchables" with subtitles. This theater is very clean and surely no "little hole in the wall" as it resembles nothing of it. Ticket prices are significantly less as oppose to major franchise, multiplex movie theaters. Concession stand consists of more than the standard popcorn, candy, nachos, hot dog as they carry my ultimate favorite snack--chocolate chip cookies at $2.00 for two pieces! No major franchise, multiplex movie theater would dare charge two cookies at $2.00 in 2012, but Kew Gardens works for my budget!! Classic movie posters adorn the corridor as 1958 "Rally Round The Flag, Boys!" and 1970 "Love Story" which won Oscar 1971 for Best Music, Original Score and was nominated for Oscar in Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress in conjunction with Life Magazine covers. All the posters are surely an ice breaker for couples on date night, especially for the awkward blind date who is monotone and does not resonate any words outside his job/work realm. An old fashion telephone booth with a working pay phone at 2012 prices sits in the foyer area of the screening rooms. Movie selections are a good choice as they do not disappoint particularly the Indie films. With Kew Gardens Cinema's status as a quaint independent theater honing vintage classic movie posters with its very reasonable price, it electrifies a mellifluous charm for a return visit. Seats are comfortable amid not resonate stadium style but I was able to see the screen without any issues. Staff is welcoming and courteous. Parking is on the street. Unassuming front, easily missed, but a trip down nostalgia lane. The walls are covered with memorabilia from the Golden Age of movie land. All the great actors are featured on the walls. Posters from famous movies. It's a small cinema, the lobby barely allows new comers and bathroom lines to co-exist. I came because they show Bolshoi Ballet and the National Theater Live series. I believe they also present opera series. The concession has an array of munchies. I ordered popcorn and a drink, the lady upgraded me to the combo level, more for same money. The theater was packed this Sunday afternoon. It seems to be a popular movie house with the locals. Parking is a problem, on the street and scarce. Came here to see Ladybird most recently, but never made the trek out here before because of the lack of public transportation to get to it. The theater is a bit in the lost valley of Kew gardens, but if you're willing to walk a tiny bit, the KG subway is a 5-10 minutes walk, and the LIRR is close by too. the parking can be a struggle, so it's best to come early to your showing if you plan on parking close to the theater. This theater plays mostly indie, off the main marquee films, and charges about $11 for an adult ticket - not the worst but still a bit pricy. The concession stand há a lot of options though and it's quick to move through to the room. The decor is really cute and features lots of old film art. rooms are a bit squeezy themselves, but almost all seats are good ones. Show quality itself was good and there were no blips, and the intro ads were retro and 80s which i dug. A decent theater but just too hard to get to for someone anywhere outside kew gardens! read more

The place offers films that are not available everywhere, however, there is always Amazon Prime and Netflix, which are showing many of them these days and you can enjoy them in your home. Angelika Film Center In the Village is also great. If you choose these options, you will not have to deal with some, albeit a minority, of the staff at Kew Gardens Cinema, that choose to unprofessionally spew their personal and life issues to you in a jealous and miserable manner. Went there today to see a movie. It's been over a year since I visited this theater due to the pandemic. It's as beautiful as ever I couldn't have felt safer the staff couldn't have been friendlier. You order your tickets online when you show up they are behind plexiglass they take your temperature and off you go to your movie. They make sure the seats around you aren't available to purchase. The movie theater is not handicapped accessible it has small seats from the 1930's, Granted it is over 100 years old but no effort has been made to give it an overhaul but to break it up into five miniature theaters. It also has auditorium type seats that require good balance to walk down. I was surprised to see they sold beer at the place as children go to the theater as well and some of the ushers are not 21 years of age. The accommodation told to me by an usher is to stay in the back where you must step up into a seat. There is no wheelchair access or method of way for a handicapped person to use the theater. They will not let you enter a theater if a prior show is playing regardless of the theater being mostly empty. We were kept out for 40 minutes! If there is a good movie playing and I want to be squashed or no alternative I'll possibly try it again. Otherwise I'll have to lose 80 lbs to fit in their seats! read more

Movies make their way to KG Cinema later than when they are first released, but that only means you don't have to rush to see some great films with all the crowds. Such a cool theatre. I grew up in the area and I remember when this was an abandoned porno theatre. Now It's a great indie house up there with the IFC center. They play great movies that true film lovers can enjoy. Don't expect transformers 15 to play here.
