For myself, and likely most people the trek out here will be long, but it will be worth it. I made the decision this summer enjoy a few new experiences and to learn a few new skills before fall approached. Learning to ride a horse was one of these objectives. I searched Google and all of the deal sites for horse riding lessons. I even had the opportunity to ride a horse at the oceanfront this summer but declined. I did not want to just jump on a horse (having no prior equine experiences) and trot a mile down the beach with a dozen or so other people who also had no idea what they were doing. This is not at all what I was looking for. My online searches turned up Pony Riding lessons in Chesapeake with Sea Breeze Ponies. I didn't know anything about the establishment but when I called and spoke to the instructor I had a good feeling about her. Also this is exactly what I wanted. A lesson. I wanted to get on a horse or pony and feel comfortable...feeling confident I knew would be a stretch. I consider the location to be pretty deep in Chesapeake. Because the signage is not very visible from the road Sea Breeze Ponies can be easily passed. The signage faces a field. But there is a flag hanging from a fence that you can see as well as a red barn and a two story grey house, that is where you will need to turn. Sea Breeze Ponies is in the rear behind the house. When you arrive your pony will be affixed to a post and you will be instructed to brush the pony really well, all the way around. They are so beautiful. If it is your first visit the instructor will put the bit, saddle, bridle etc. on. Pay attention though as you may be instructed to remove them and return them to their respective storage areas at the end. On subsequent visits you will likely be doing these actions yourself (if you are old enough/capable). Once my pony LADY was ready I walked her out to the ring in the back. Getting onto the pony was fairly easy.The dismount, not quite as effortless. Lady and I walked around first connected to the instructor, then once we were comfortable with each other the instructor let us go off on our own. The key is to really pay attention to how you hold the reigns and be firm in your verbal and physical instructions to the pony. I enjoyed the lesson, learning to get Lady to go in the direction I wanted, having her turn around, getting her to move again whenever she decided to stop. The end of the lesson removing everything from the pony, storing the items where they belong and brushing the pony down again. Your session pretty much ends the way it began. Brooke is a great instructor and she really has a way with children. I've seen her interact with two young girls during their lessons. She is patient and speaks to them in a gentle manner while being very clear on what she expects from them. Brooke has a pleasant countenance and attitude that puts visitors at ease. She has a great deal of experience, having been working in various aspects of the equine arena for many years. I waited until it was December and freezing to redeem my lesson :-( not the best decision. But as long as it isn't raining or snowing, I believe you can still have your lesson. I could have drove 45 minutes and been in Williamsburg! But I was still in Va Beach. From the General Booth Blvd/ VB proper it's roughly 30 minutes. Honestly those 30 minutes seemed an eternity. It's deep in Pungo closer to the NC border. A beautiful park tucked away, but when you enter the park it spreads out into a nicely manicured area that opens to water access to the North Landing River. There is plenty of shaded space and open space and benches through out. Sheltered picnic areas, concrete corn hole boards, volleyball courses, baseball fields, basketball courts and an 18 hole disc golf course. Plenty of clean bathrooms. Although, some of them were closed for winterization. The bathrooms attached to the rental office close to the boat ramp were open and clean and stocked with soap and toilet paper. It's a huge area on 100 acres so plenty of walking to be done. It's so nice and quiet and peaceful that I almost don't want to share this review. But it will probably stay that way unless you live in the Pungo area or close to it, with it being so far!! It is a one way only loop that circles the inner area of the park. They even have a nice large playground area for kids. In the middle is a little garden. Swimming isn't allowed, the water access is one of the legs of the intracoastal waterway. I remember coming here once, back in 2009 for an Easter picnic in which I was invited. With so many years having passed, it's nice to know it's remained beautiful, but obviously with a lot of additions to it. I remembered it being super lovely out here, but just extremely far. Which is why I think it's taken me so long to return. Honestly, it's so quiet and tranquil that you can be alone with your thoughts and just enjoy nature. I like that it's away from the hubbub and chaos. I just wish I didn't live so far from it.

He was super informative, answered all questions and even gave plenty of time to browse and take pictures on your own. He kept us cool, and didn't spend to long talking in hot areas. My 6 year old was super stoked and this museum impressed the whole family inside and out. If not mistaken more than 80% of the planes are still capable of flying and we seen 1 take off. Which they provide a ride in one for extra charge!! Definitely worth the stop and the party of five we came with thoroughly enjoyed the visit and was here for about 3 hours checking everything out.

There are also poop bags provided by the city so if you bring your furry friend please pick up after them. Just to the side of the parking lot there is a "sandy beach" area where you could skip stone or cast a line. On the opposite side of the parking lot there is a small pond that has 2 picnic tables. Additionally about 100 ft from the entrance there is a dock with built in benches where you could just relax and enjoy the view.

We always park at National Wildlife Refudge and go through there. Views are Beaches and trees, forest and dunes, wild plants and wild life. Take plenty of water and sunscreen. A hat is always good. I take a day backpack when we go. Tick spray is also a great thing. I can't believe I have never written a review on False Cape State Park. We have had countless adventures hiking and biking. We prefer biking because hiking is a very long hike. There is a long stretch that is not shaded. It is a wonderful area. Very well kept. You can camp with a tent . If you get a camp site on the beach they also give you a second camp site just incase it gets super windy you can fall back to the second campsite. You can book all that with the park. OOO they also offer kayak tours too. I have not done the kayak tour through them but we are planning our kayak trip for this year. Again you book that through the park. They supply you with kayak, life vest and paddle. I think it is about 5 miles from Back Bay Wildlife Refuge to False cape State Park and a little further is the beach. Don't quote me on that. So a round trip on a bike is about 10 miles. And some of the trails around in False cape are so sandy we have locked our bikes at the gift shop and hike the sandy trails. There is a old historical grave yard and a church steeple on one of the trails that is a really cool walk. maybe about a mile round trip. I love the visitor center at False Cape. They have the nicest restrooms. They have snacks and drinks and a place to fill up your water bottles and If you want to get a cool tshirt or a beach towel or a refrigerator magnet they have that too. It is the prettiest visitor center and ALWAYS a friend staff inside to answer any questions.

Honestly, this is a blink and you miss it kinda natural park because it's so small with just about 6 parking spaces in a gravel lot and a small shaded picnic area. It's cute. It's small. And it's very simple. A lot of locals use the lot for fishing on the other side of the bridge so it can get tight and Sandbridge road is notoriously busy and dangerous during peak summer months. But, all things considered, for what this is, a small roadside tribute to a now passed local who loved lotuses and saw to it they would bloom here for others to enjoy, its cute and charming.
