This is my experience at Fentress with Holly, the barn owner/manager. I left after one month…read more -Horses are only fed about 8lb of hay, once per day in the evening. In the morning instead of being given hay, they are turned out to a grassless mud-slick "pasture" where they may eat from a bale of straw that is left in the mud, manure, and rain. During the month I was there, there was about a one week period when there was nothing in the fields for the horses to eat, except for the remnants of soiled old round bales, soaked in mud, urine, and manure. -There was a large patch of black mold in my horse's stall where her evening hay was being thrown. -At times the horses did not have more than a few inches of water in their trough outside, and when water was available outside, it had an oily chemical film on top. -Horses were left out all day on more than one occasion in 40 degree temperatures with down pouring rain and no shelter, and heavy blankets were left on when the outside temperature was over 65 degrees. -Field injuries were not reported to owners -The entire grounds around and in the barn, driveway, and nearby in the turnouts constantly had garbage strewn about. This ranged from cat food containers, to fast food wrappers, to soda bottles, to ripped up blankets, to broken toys and broken plastic containers, empty grain bags and so on. The trash cans were overflowing onto the ground. I personally cleaned a lot of this and took it to the dump while I was boarded there, only to have trash and refuse re-appear on the ground the very next day. Refrigerators were festering with mold and rot. -The aisleway leading to the bathroom and the "lounge" was full of broken kid's toys and bikes, and farm equipment. When I moved some things out of the way to take my daughter back to the bathroom I discovered years worth of trash and rot, including cat feces, broken glass, broken rusted implements, rotten food wrappers, diaper wrappers, dirty animal cages, dead rodents, ripped up horse blankets covered in cat urine, etc. I personally spent hours cleaning this entire mess by myself, as it was not only disgusting but a hazard to my kids. -The bathroom hadn't been cleaned in probably years. I personally bought cleaning supplies out of my own pocket and bleached and scrubbed out the layers of bathroom grime, mud, mold, and mildew. Unfortunately I didn't have the forethought to take detailed before photos of the aisle mess and bathroom as I didn't plan on posting a review, but other boarders can and will attest to the level of filth that was there before I cleaned. -The barn owner has a sweet but lonely, dirty, and fur-matted St. Bernard which lives enclosed in a stall at the barn, where it defecates and urinates, and hangs out full time except when the barn owner is cleaning stalls and lets it out. (See photo) -The area where my horse was turned out was constant state of about 8 inches of slick clay mud, large pools of water (often with bits of trash floating about), and treacherous pocked dried mud. Many of them did not have a dry area to stand at all, and horses were sliding around in the deep mud. Manure was never removed. During my time at Fentress, I didn't have much contact with the barn owner Holly and what contact I did have was cordial. I did not make a fuss or create an issue about the things that I cleaned. I offered to help. I did not have any drama with Holly or the other boarders. I did not complain once. After a few weeks there, I decided that it was too poorly managed and too much of a stress for me, and so I chose to move on. I sent Holly a polite text that I would be leaving about 4-5 days ahead of time as I'd found a situation that was a better fit, and thoroughly cleaned and stripped my stall before I left. I had no intention of exposing her business, I did not create a scene, I was not rude or negative. What happened next was appalling. I was informed that Holly took to Facebook to bash me for not giving 30 days notice (which I was not under contract to do). I sent her a text advising her that it's not good business practice to bash clients on social media. She then "DARED" me to "keep going", to which I responded that it wasn't worth it. Later I was informed by another local farm owner whom I had only met on one occasion that Holly went online and escalated her attack on me by disclosing my name and bashing me left and right to other horse business owners, in an attempt to give me a "bad reputation in the local horse community" as this other barn owner said, or as Holly herself said, "blacklist" me on various local group pages to other barn owners/trainers/etc. I have never been so appalled by a business owner's actions. This barn is dirty and poorly managed, and the barn owner is juvenile and vindictive, and doesn't seem to care about what the horses need. I recommend avoiding this barn at all costs.

I never ONCE had to worry about my horse during his year long tenure at her farm. My horse came from care as crappy as it gets and Holly was able to put weight back on my gelding, and in a safe environment. She would let me know if he got knicked in the field or threw a shoe, that sort of thing. When there was not enough grass in the field in the winter, she would supplement with hay. I know she also took special care of her senior horses as well. She took great care of the ring, too. Holly is super professional and definitely communicates and in a timely manner. Thank you for all you did for Double, Holly!

You are a little close to your neighbors, but it still feels spacious. We stayed in a tent spot that came with a picnic table, an area for a fire pit, and plenty of trees to set up a hammock. Behind our spot, there was a nice wooded area with a trail. Pet friendly: We brought our dog with us and she enjoyed her time there. Kid friendly: This was paradise to the kids. They had a beautiful playground near the campgrounds. All of the trails were awesome and easy for them to navigate. They enjoyed fishing also. I will definitely return. This is a perfect place to come and unplug. Tips: **Bring your own toilet paper. The bathrooms there ran out a few times since it was a busy weekend.**

They have taken good care of the park over the years and have improved on the entire area. Plenty of parking to the left as soon as you enter the park. The Office is close to the entrance next to the lake. They have a nice area for fishing. You just need to bring n active fresh water fishing license. They also post when they have stocked the lake last. I love that for only $10 an hour you can rent a canoe. They have lots of life jackets of all sizes and plenty of different paddles. For us this was perfect. At a nice leisurely pace it took us an hour and a half to paddle the entire water way. We had a great time and will definitely go and do this again. The water way is peaceful with plenty of shade. My favorite part of the water trail is that you get to go under a couple of beautiful bridges. They also offer kayaks and paddles for those. The best part is that they have a boat launch area. You stay perfectly dry getting in and out. They have hiking trails. The one thing is that they could mark their trails better. We found that they did not mark the water way trail either. But it certainly makes it an adventure. We had someone tell us to look on our google map on our phone to find out our location. You can pick up a paper map but you can still get lost. It is helpful if you have google map or hiking map app. They have a nice small mini golf area. Very well kept and clean. We did not play but there were plenty of people playing the mini golf. Camping area is nice. They have a kids playground in the camping area. They have water and electrical hook ups for RV's. They have Cabin's with heat and AC. You can also take a tent and hammocks . Wide variety of camping in this area and it is very well kept.

During the off-season they work on the honor system much like our state parks do in an envelope is provided to put in your money. The parking lot is plenty spacious enough for cars, trucks, buses and even RV parking. I've always found the lot to be clean with multi purpose trash cans. One slot is for regular trash the other is for recycling. There are no cans out on the trail so now's the time to throw anything that you have away or hold onto it until you return. There is one small building on the property that houses the educational area which is open during the hours of the part. A volunteer or a Ranger is on hand to answer your questions. This is where group tours begin. The refuge was established June 6, 1938 as a crucial link along the Atlantic flyway, the migration route that takes birds from Summer breeding grounds in the North to Winter feeding grounds & rest. Educational programming is offered by park rangers. Best time to visit is late Fall/Winter when viewing birds. The trails are flat and easy to navigate. Make sure you bring your camera and if you're into birdwatching a spotting scope because there's always something to see or take a photo of. Yes it is a haul out to Sanbridge, but I absolutely recommend this park, especially if you've never been before. Now is the time to consider a trip with all the migration activity happening around the first of December.

I have to leave my mini me at home, or she would spend every dime in here. One tip about the Girl Scout shop is ... include a small dressing room. I love "A Place for Girls" and the setup of the outdoors areas. They are so many pavilion areas, and widely covered by trees too. The classes and event offered here are amazing, I just really wish there was something. Similar in Norfolk. It took me an hour to get to this location from the VA Beach Oceana area.

My experience is solely from my recent encounter at their rev omega event. The staff at check in and gun rental and check out for purchasing products as well as the floor. Staff assisting me in choosing proper eyewear, etc. were beyond friendly, amazing people, and so personable you could easily imagine having at length conversations with any one of them. The staff on the field, the People, ensuring that everyone is having a good time as well as following the rules, as well as ensuring that everybody is staying healthy were outstanding. Also personable. They were caring, kind, and interesting. They were interested as well. Sharing stories from previous events, sharing, anecdotes of Ofield actions, as well as things that have happened in the area. Fishing adventures on the pond. Everybody was amazing. The role players in this event, I do not know if they are employees, or if they are just friends of the event, but they were all truly amazing. Swamp sniper, the person most people come out to see, though I can't honestly say if that's true, but in my experience, we came in because of my sons longtime following of his YouTube channel, was awesome. He was so friendly, he was so eager to offer advice, he was super kind. When I made a mistake, he was just an all-around genuine guy. I can't say I can make it here yearly but we'll do our best.

I was invited to Ballahack Airsoft by a friend for his son's birthday. What an absolute BLAST! I…read moreused to play paintball and airsoft when I was a teenager. I did not realize how much of a sport it had grown into. After a near 30 year hiatus this was a fantastically fun way to get back into the sport and now I'm hooked! Ballahack has a sprawling outdoor arena complete with multiple ConEx style structures. There is a larger village around the middle of the site. The staff is polite and courteous. The location is family friendly: they ensure no cheating, and cursing/ foul language is heavily discouraged. A day pass with equipment rental will run you a little north of $60.00 per person. For that you get a decent airsoft rifle, a full face mask, and a kit with, "dead" rags and barrel covers. In my opinion, it's worth every penny. Ballahack also has a pro shop to purchase your own gear and weapons, or have your own equipment worked on. There are snacks for purchase, and food trucks usually find their way out around lunchtime. There are on site restrooms, as well as port-a-potties for guests to use. I loved my visit! I definitely plan on going back!

You can really tell that they have a passion to teach and ride! I like how both of them really take the time to get to know you and they want everyone in class to leave knowing they had a great workout. They even set a goal for me for next time! After chatting with them after class, I already felt like I belonged, which is SO IMPORTANT for me when looking for a gym. :) When you enter the studio, there is a crisp, clean, and relaxed chic/modern feel...wood floors and wood/metal décor. To the right, you will see a check in area, comfy and modern couches, and cubbies that hold your cycling shoes (if you need them). To the left you will see benches, a schedule board, hampers for towels and shoes, and some yoga mats/foam rollers. Straight ahead, you will see 3 rows of bikes that are connected to a large screen that sits above the instructor's bike. The bikes are really cool as you can see all of your stats on your bike and on the screen. This includes your power, rpm, time, calories, and points you earn as you ride. The monitor will also show different colors. These are the levels you are working at with the amount of power you are putting in. I like having this because I can really push myself and easily keep track with where I should be... whether I am climbing a hill or sprinting! RCS also has an app! The app is user friendly and makes it so easy to schedule and purchase classes. It also helps you keep track of your activity (including running, cycling, and other workouts). Another positive note is that their rates are great and they offer fantastic specials. Right now, for summer, you can get 10 classes for only $65. That is a steal! So, if you're looking for a great place to ride, even if you're a first timer, check them out! Kaye even mentioned having some classes geared towards first time riders. It will be so worth it! Lolita and Kaye will be there for you and instructors are everything. They make the ride and they challenge you do get better, push harder, pedal faster! You don't have to worry about any gimmicks like weights, bands, or yoga while on the bike (some people enjoy that which is fine). You're in for a fun and challenging cycling class with a splash of technology! Rhythm Cycling Studio just earned itself a very happy indoor cyclist!

The classes were fun, motivating and pushed you to work a bit harder. Very friendly group I had the privilege of riding with those two days. They made me feel very welcomed the moment I stepped in the door. The studio is very, very clean and the technology is very impressive. I'm so glad I found Rhythm Cycling Studio! This will be my preferred studio when I'm in the Chesapeake/Norfolk area. Can't wait to ride with you all again!
