When the heartbreaking time came to say goodbye to our elderly cat, we chose Fairfax Veterinary Clinic, hoping for a quiet and dignified experience. Unfortunately, it was anything but. We were told our cat would be taken to a quiet room to have the injection port placed, however, we found she was taken into the main laboratory area where an aggressive barking dog terrorized her. We handed the doctor a calm, relaxed cat and the doctor returned with our poor cat in a clearly alarmed state. Back in the room with us, the euthanasia itself felt rushed. The first injection, which is supposed to sedate and relax the cat, did not seem to have time to take effect. Instead of allowing her to drift into sleep, the second injection was administered almost immediately. Our beloved cat never relaxed -- her eyes stayed wide open, and even after her heart stopped, they never closed. It was a devastating and undignified way to say goodbye. If you are looking for compassionate, thoughtful, and respectful care, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Well, if you're reading my post, that means you have an animal and need some professional help to take care of your dear companion. I have some good news. You found the right place! I have a deep connection with my animals, and when they are sick or injured or not acting in their normal healthy way it always causes me great distress, and I look for a professional to guide me. Of course putting your trust in someone else can be incredibly hard especially with our cherished pets. I've only been to this Veterinarian clinic once as I live in the valley and I have access to a closer facility that's also great but I needed a same day visit and they were booked solid. I tried Fairfax Vet and I'm glad I did. From the moment the receptionist answered my call it felt like these were people who cared. She listened to my concerns, created an account and took down all of my information. They were also fully booked that day, but after some conversation and discussion, she was able to get me in later that afternoon. I arrived and was quickly escorted into a waiting room and about 10 minutes later I meet with Dr. Pipkin who is awesome. She listened to my concerns and symptoms without rushing before performing an exam. Her bedside manner was great and my cat was amazingly calm. She diagnosed a sizable abscess at the base of the tail and took immediate action to shave and clean the hole and administer painkillers and antibiotics and some inflammation reducer along with a full rundown of what to expect over the next 5-7 days. I took my sweetie home to recover and start the healing process knowing she was going to be ok. A few days later they called to check in and see how it was going and addressed some of my follow up questions. I feel very fortunate to have such caring and trusted professionals in my community that can help in times of need or just to make sure our furry friends live as long and as healthy of a life as possible. read more

Post spay I brought a recovery suit for my cat and asked if they could put in on her Kelly Pipkin said "no we're charging you for a plastic cone, but if you want we'll take it off and give her back to you with no protection for her sutures." I declined her insane suggestion and said "fine, don't take off the cone then, because then she would have no protection and that would obviously be negligent. Another woman then came out and said "we took the cone off." I asked why and there was no explanation. At this point I realized I was interacting with people who's brains were turned off so I said "just give me my cat, I'm ready to leave." The woman brought my poor terrified cat into the waiting room without her carrier, holding her above her head by her neck and mumbling incoherently about going to another room to put on the recover suit. It was physically painful to watch this insane person parade around the office with my little angel, right after surgery in response to me saying very clearly "give me my cat now." I agian said "give me my cat now." She refused and darted back behind closed doors and inexplicably tied the plastic cone tight around Prada's neck. I ordered them to stop putting the plastic collar on and off Prada for no reason, continually traumatizing her for no reason, and give me my damn cat back immediately - which they finally did. We had been going to Fairfax Veterinary Clinic for 10+ years up until we relocated and now live 2 hours away. For the first year, we still brought our pets to Fairfax Veterinary Clinic until we recently moved them to a new vet closer to our new home. Recently our senior pup was unexpectedly attacked by another dog, nearly removing his entire ear. We struggled to get anyone in our local area to squeeze him in because it was considered 'non-urgent'. After several frustrating calls I decided to give Fairfax Veterinary Clinic a call on a whim and from the very first interaction with the receptionist they were kind, compassionate and worked to find a solution to squeeze our guy in that day. They kept him as a standby patient, squeezed him in between their other pre scheduled appointments and somehow managed to squeeze him in for surgery same day. They had to remove nearly half of his. year but Dr. Pipkin worked hard to reshape and careful suture his ear so it at least maintained a shape similar to his other ear. Reptile owners-Dr Captanian is AMAZING. I've been searching for months for a vet that knows what they're doing with reptiles (a lot of vets will say they see reptiles, but have no clue how to actually treat them). When I brought my snake to see Dr Captanian, I could immediately tell by the questions she asked me that she is very knowledgeable about snakes and reptiles in general. She also didn't push any unnecessary treatment or medication and genuinely cares about her exotic patients. She even sent us a follow-up thank you card. I live about 40 minutes away, but the drive is well worth it for a vet who is knowledgeable and cares about reptiles. I will definitely be bringing my other reptiles here to see Dr Captanian for any of our future veterinary needs. read more

I came here back in Jan of this yr. My family and I had to put our older dog to sleep because he lost motion in his rear leg. As we all know life is full of ups and downs. Yesterday for me was a real downer. Max, my beloved dog for 17 years had to be put to be put to sleep. His little body was breaking down and we couldn't let him suffer. I've been going to Fairfax Veterinary Clinic for several years. They have always been kind and caring. They care. They all care. I never felt like they were just running tests to run a test. Their bottom line is taking very good care of their clients, which in their case happen to be our beloved pets. I had to make a horrible tuff decision yesterday and without the guidance and support of Dr. Moore and his staff I would of never been able to handle this event alone. I should of written a review much sooner and this should be an update to their service. I was amiss in not making certain they were on my radar. They were always great to us and even though price was never an issue when it came to Max they wouldn't recommend anything that they didn't feel would help and were always upfront about what the cost would be. You know... there are a lot of things that people can fake in life... but love and caring isn't something that can be faked. They care.. they really really really care. If I ever add another animal to my household I will never trust another vet or veterinary clinic as much as I trust them. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Fairfax Veterinary Clinic. Fairfax Veterinary Clinic - My last cuddle with my boy Max - Veterinarians Near Me - Fairfax, California

This was my 4th visit taking my cat to Fairfax Veterinary Clinic. I have had good experiences until this last time. I dropped off my cat to have a procedure where she would be put under anesthesia. When I went to pick her up, I was waiting at their reception for 10 minutes. I then asked someone if my cat was okay and could I see her. The person told me she would tell the doctor I was there and she would bring out my baby. 10 more minutes went by (The place was empty) The doctor eventually came out, but they still didn't bring out my baby, so I asked the doctor if my cat was okay and can I please see her, I was feeling concerned. The doctor said she was doing well and would have her brought out. Another 10 minutes later they finally brought her to me. The next day someone named Dr. Patty called to check in and see how my sweet cat was doing. She left a voicemail, so I called back. When I called back, a man named Chris answered the phone and I told him I was returning Dr. Patty's call regarding my cat. He said rudely, why are you calling? I said, I told you, I am returning a call. He then said being even more rude, how is he? (meaning the cat) I said it's a she and I am concerned with how she is doing today. He said, well there is no Dr. Patty here and I don't know why you're calling. I said, well, this Dr. Patty person told me to call back to let her know how my cat was doing. He said, well the doctor who worked on your cat is not even here, so why are you calling? I was so taken aback that I said, is there someone else I can talk to and he said no. I said I am going to leave my name and number and please have someone call me back, because I am concerned with how my cat is reacting to the treatment she received. The Dr. Patty person eventually called me back, I told her my concerns about my pet and then I told her what happened with the person Chris who answered the phone and she started to giggle(like a little kid) and did not acknowledge his unprofessional behavior and kept giggling. It was very odd. Needless to say, it was an uncomfortable situation all around, and the lack of professionalism when my fur baby was in their care, made it all the worse. $800 later I won't be returning. read more

We had a really heart warming experience at the Fairfax Veterinary Clinic. We took our cat Lola there when she was pretty sick and wound up needing to be put down. Dr. Morey was compassionate, loving, and kind in the way he presented information, sensitive in allowing us to make our own difficult choice, and warm and gentle when he helped Lola pass on to whatever is next for her (hopefully a land with lots of cozy, sunny sleeping spots and butterflies to jump at.) The staff lit a candle in the room when we were saying goodbye which was such a gentle, thoughtful touch. We just opened the most kind, thoughtful card they sent with all the vets sending their condolences. This is literally my first yelp review ... I'm pretty sure .... so it says a lot about how much I genuinely appreciate the Fairfax Veterinary Clinic. We will definitely be taking our future animals there! read more

I do not recommend this business for boarding. Normally when spending hundreds of dollars at any business you get in return some sense that you are being taken care of as a customer. In the case of pet boarding, my expectations were some sort of reasonably prompt turnaround in retrieving my pets and typically some feedback on how they did during their stay, etc. On this occasion trying Fairfax Veterinary with boarding for the first time I felt lucky getting out of there with pets in hand. Despite calling ahead to make sure that my pets were ready to be picked up, upon arrival I was told somewhat gruffly that they were scheduled for an afternoon pickup. It then took nearly an hour to retrieve my two small dogs. What was supposed to be a happy reunion with our furry family members was instead a frustrating stressful hassle. I do not recommend this business for boarding pets - very transactional/impersonal and no sense that they were taken care of beyond basic food and shelter. read more

We had a great experience on our first visit. Our cat was acting extremely strange, and we knew she was hurt somehow, we just couldn't identify what had happened. We were squeezed into the schedule right away, and Dr. Wentzell did a thorough examination - unfortunately our kitty started acting normal again, so it still wasn't clear what was wrong. Later in the day, when her arm became extremely swollen, we went back for another check up (no charge) and they identified the issue. She wound up being fine after a day, but the doctor made sure to call and follow up to check. I thought they were extremely thorough and thoughtful. We even got a 'welcome' card in the mail afterwards. Very personal service! The prices seemed reasonable too - it was $49 for the visit. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for two years. I brought my dog to this clinic a couple of times and had a good experience, so when my mom's 21 year old cat took a turn for the worse, I thought I could bring her here. I have said goodbye to pets before at other vet offices and it is always sad, but the experience they provided was disgusting. Rather than asking me to pay in advance or giving me a bill at the end of the appointment, the manager demanaded I pay immediately after the vet *administered* the drugs. I mean this woman demanded we go over billing as Penny took her last breaths. She refused to wait while I paid my respects and came back with my receipt before the vet even returned to see if the cat had passed. She later explained that sometimes people grow too emotional and run away after their pet dies, so she needs payment before they pass??? I pointed out that she should ask for payment before they drug the animal and she remained indignant to my issue. I left furious and sad that I'd failed to be focused on this cat who'd been in my life for twenty years during her last moments. They also cost about a hundred dollars more than East San Rafael Vet has ever charged me for the same "service." My work schedule didn't allow me to get an appointment there quickly enough, but had I known what to expect, I would have waited. The doctor himself was overall kind and a clear communicator, but he didn't concern himself with the billing issue. I had an emergency with my bearded dragon and they were the only vet that would see her after calling 19 other vet hospitals in my areas. The lady I spoke to over the phone went above and beyond so that my dragon could be seen same day. I can't express how much I appreciated that after being turned away by nearly 20 other vet hospitals. Unfortunately, she took a turn for the worst and we decided with the vets suggestion to let her pass. I had an emergency with my 28 yr old parrot and contacted Fairfax Veterinary Hospital to make sure they had an avian vet available during their Saturday hours (9am to 1pm). They did but I was told Dr. Pipkin could not see my parrot, Their website claims they take emergencies during their normal business hours & ask that you call them to let them know you're coming. They need to fix their website so it accurately reflects their policies. I find this to be very unprofessional behavior. At the very least, Dr. Pipkin should have spoken with me on the phone re my situation. Birds can get very ill/die quickly. They could not give me a viable alternative vet clinic to go to. FYI, my parrot is a current patient of this clinic. I will not be returning. read more

If to Go to a vet where your animals are seen as income and not family members come here. In my original visit, me and my vet Kelly made a plan of what my dogs need. They had to return in a month to receive a booster shot. I called to make a follow up appointment t for the booster and for their nails to be trimmed with Kelly. At the second appointment, I couldn't not be there and I had a friend take them. I received a call not during the visit, not before the visit, but after with a total of $300 to be due, 2 extra shots given to them that I was clueless about and that they were seen by a different vet. The front desk guy kept saying the guy that dropped off the dogs "confirmed" their treatment t and the extra shots.... so they let a complete stranger who's name is absolutely no where on any information given to them dictate what chemicals goes into my dogs and called me, the owner for payment. These are not just animals, they are my family. I wanted them to only get their booster and nails trimmed and see the original vet that took care of them. Ontop of everything I got a call saying my dogs tags had fallen off durning my visit. I have two Rottweilers who do everything rough and for 5 years I've never had their tags fallen off at the vet... it makes me wonder how did really handle and treat my dogs. read more

Excellent service from the entire staff from Erin making the appointment to seeing Dr. Ryen Morey who was great with our dog. Our regular vet was booked and couldn't fit us in so we tried Fairfax Veterinary Clinic. I have friends who love this clinic, and we bumped into one at our appointment. This friend owns a dog sanctuary and drives 45 minutes down here to use this clinic and that was a huge plus for us. Also they are 30 minutes closer to our home than our regular vet but we love our regular vet because he is holistic and 'alternative' - does acupuncture, cold laser, herbs, titers, etc. Still we highly recommend Fairfax Vet Clinic and will be happy to continue using them for certain things.
