We originally had another wedding venue booked, but when we visited the Mayernik we knew we had to make the switch. We chose a Friday afternoon because we able to save a little bit of money, but also book other locations on the property to make it a full day experience for our guests. The Mayernik has some suggested vendors, but the only requirement is from choosing from one of their 3 food vendors. We tried each over time and settled on Remo's...who created an amazing meal for us. It was high quality and reasonably priced. Our wedding ceremony was at 1230, followed by a brunch reception. For the ceremony we opted for the extra cost of chairs to be set out and I'm glad we did. It was a beautiful day and I would have been uncomfortable forcing everyone to stand during our ceremony. After the reception, we invited a few guests to an after party at The Cabin, one of the smaller locations on the property. Leading up to and throughout the day, Jennifer was attentive and made sure all our details came through without us worrying. She even helped organize and pack things up at the end of the night. I was never worried during the experience and knew she had it handled. If I had to do it again, I'd pick the Mayernik as our choice venue. What a great day to remember!

I originally worked with the event coordinator Shannon, who was wonderful: very accommodating, available and informative. She notified me that she was leaving her job as event coordinator approximately 2 weeks before my wedding! I was a panicked bride after hearing this...what a nightmare! Shannon made our transition to Suzi, another event coordinator at the Center, extremely smooth. Although Shannon was pleasant to work with, I am so happy to have had Suzi coordinate my event. She is extremely personable, accommodating and flexible. I really felt like she was there for me on my wedding day. She took care of everything, from the last minute decision to move the ceremony inside to fluffing my train before I walked down the isle. She helped us clean up at the end of the night and my family and friends all loved working with her. The Mayernik Center is difficult to reserve, so I would plan to book at least a year ahead, preferably more if you want a Saturday date. I had a Friday wedding and would recommend it if all the Saturdays are taken. We did not have a DJ, but used the Mayernik Center's sound system to play music. It worked perfectly. The only reason I am not giving the Center 5 stars is that they do not have chairs available for outside ceremony's, which makes outside ceremony's very difficult. Annoying and served on small plates, so also very messy. The beef Bolognese was not really beef Bolognese. There was no meat sauce. No sauce at all really. It was beef chunks you had to cut up and. Large chopped tomatoes in an oil or something. It was also way too salty. The pasta was fresh. That was about the only good thing. The design looks nicer, but the horrible flooring makes that not fully come through. The service was also terrible. The waitress bright five glasses of water for a party of 6. One of us was never allowed to order a drink. He tried a few times, then gave up and just drank water. The waiters also waited until we got our salads and soups before putting in our main dishes. So we waited a LONG time between our first course and second just because if her choice. I liked it before the TV show messed with it. Now, I'm okay with never returning. I'd rather pay less (or even more) for better food and service.

Crab Cakes - The crab cakes themselves were meaty and tasted pretty good (4.5 stars), but the sides of peas (3 stars) and potatoes (4 stars) were very plain. Chicken Romano - My husband ate part of this entree. He called it "gross." The peaches, basil sorbet, tomatoes, and that bite of vinegar were SO complementary. Every bite had something going on. I ate the entire thing myself and didn't even offer any to my husband, which probably says more than anything else I could write about it. We also tried the mushrooms, smoked olives, and grilled peaches. My husband really enjoyed the mushrooms and peaches. I was more indifferent toward those dishes--they were perfectly fine, but the tomato salad was such a standout that nothing else we had to start came close for me. For my entrée, I ordered the smoked cod rigatoni. This one unfortunately wasn't my favorite. It was fine, but there was an oddly gamey flavor to it that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I love smoked flavors, so I don't think it was simply the smokiness--there was just something about the flavor that didn't work for me. My husband ordered the halibut and absolutely loved it. For dessert, we shared the banana PB&J, and my husband also ordered an affogato. Interestingly, they used chocolate syrup in the affogato, which he had never had before, so that was a fun and unexpected twist. Overall, Hyeholde is absolutely worth experiencing at least once. The setting is beautiful and unlike almost anywhere else in Pittsburgh, the service and atmosphere make dinner feel like an occasion, and that heirloom tomato salad alone is something I'll be thinking about for a long time. Long story short, HIP notified my BFF via email only one week before her wedding that, to comply with the fire marshal's mandate, their venue would no longer be able to accommodate her wedding. Fortunately, the bride and bridal party were able to miraculously find another amazingly accommodating venue that same day, but HIP's handling of the issue was nothing less than classless. What was already a stressful situation was exacerbated by HIP's incompetent and unsympathetic actions, including (but not limited to): - delayed communication of the venue's inability to host the wedding - being unresponsive to requests to finalize details of the venue transition (yet still having time to post videos to social media about the situation) - trying to charge ridiculous prices for minimal venue involvement ($2,500 just to use the venue as a hotel and to take pictures there), - and claiming the rented tables were damaged when they were returned (even though they were already damaged when provided in the first place) just to be able to keep the $500 deposit We're so thrilled that the wedding turned out well despite the frustration of having to deal with HIP, but their behavior and attitude were completely unprofessional and, quite frankly, rude. If you're looking to have your big day at their venue, I'd recommend thinking twice. Give your business to people that truly have your best interests -- and not just your money -- in mind.

Parking wasn't bad - we found something across the steeet (on street parking). There's also a lot behind the place. I'm guessing this fills up, fast, but we got there fairly early. They opened the doors on time - at 7pm - and we weren't in line too long waiting for our ID check and wrist band (they could use more than *one* poor guy doing this, btw). I don't love this segregated/upcharge thing most venues seem to be doing nowadays, but at least the general admission SRO areas in this place have decent views. We grabbed a spot just behind the sound/lighting guys in the middle of the GA area. One note --- our friends who bought into the standing area right by the stage ended up joining us 1/2 way through, because they said the audio was blasting them. The place is nicely restored; has a good bar area with a better drink selection than many places we've tried in Pittsburgh. Hubs & I each got a hazy IPA, and he also got a big pretzel (which was ok - a bit too doughy for my taste). WOWZER those 3 things were expensive: **$43**!!!
