Just checked in. BLUF: 5 stars for the service and that I received an upgrade to the suite! I did have to wait an hour for my room, but I early so can't blame the staff here. The gal at the desk secured my luggage in a room while I waited and hot coffee was available while I waited. We'll see how the breakfast service is in the morning. I'm not expecting any different fare than other Fairfield Inns, but the service and stocking of the food could change this rating ;) read more

If you travel for work. I you have an early shift. That starts before their breakfast set up is ready 6:30AM. If you're use to bringing your on food. To save money while out working and trying to make money. You might want to bring your own microwave. As if you're on a construction site or something. Rooms and facility are very average for a Fairfield. Close to UNC Wilmington and convenient to Wilmington and the surrounding area. Breakfast is very mediocre... stayed for 4 nights and same fare each day - scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage patties, 2 waffle irons and yogurt, fruit, bagels, toast and coffee / tea. Oatmeal or grits is the only variation from day to day. Lobby and overall facility is very average and average on maintenance. Rooms reasonably maintained but not overly clean. Room cleaning / freshening is on alternate days and very sub par. Check in and checkout fine. Parking fine. Pool area small and inside, looked like not worth bothering. read more

One problem after another. Having checked in, I was given two keys that did not work. These key cards were the older ones that only slide into a slot rather than the newer ones that work by proximity; I find the older ones have a much higher error rate. I turned my AC on and left, only to come back and find that it had shut off and the room was hotter than when I got there. I took a shower, and the drain was clogged. Just not good. It's convenient to the beach, which is the reason to stay, and is priced accordingly. At this price, I expected basic things to work. The service I received was nice enough. The neighboring property under Marriott has even worse reviews, and maybe those are true. But I expected better here. The place needs a renovation. read more

The place is decent but the staff at the front desk was being very absurd towards my boyfriend. We went to check in and the lady at the desk assumed that he was the same marine that came in before which confused my boyfriend. She said that he's not allowed to book with this establishment because of him being underage even with a military ID. I am of age to book and I wouldn't see the problem since he's with me; but because she assumed so she said she'll let it slide again and to not come back unless he's of age. It frustrated me because of the tone of her voice and the telling him that he's military status didn't matter. If it was gonna be an issue I would've booked under my name; but we've never had an issue with booking with this company before just will never come back to this one again. read more

The hotel was clean and situated in a convenient location. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot! No water in the lobby. I will say there is room for improvement in the breakfast. There very basic food and no selection for yogurt. I just stayed at a Marriott in San Diego and the breakfast choices were much better read more

Very nice hotel during my trip to Wilmington. It was surprising to see elevator limitations on the number of occupants AND one of the two elevators out of service. I am sure this makes check-in and checkout on busy days very hectic. The front desk staff member was very friendly and helpful. He provided all I asked for and secured a very nice room for my overnight stay. My husband always laughs and rolls his eyes when I lug in my cleaning wipes and Lysol sprayand refuse to allow him to touch anything before I clean. This trip was no exception because I am taking no chances out in these COVID streets! Unfortunately, the bedside lamps and charging station (high touch areas to be sure because everyone is charging their devises overnight) WAS ABSOLUTELY FILTHY! I couldn't believe it! I do not think it has been cleaned in a very long time. Please know that is so hard for some people (me, I am some people) to trust travel again because of differing cleanliness standards, so Marriott, please do better! read more

The hotel staff was very friendly. Breakfast was a typical hotel breakfast. The location was perfect (10 mins from downtown Wilmington and 10 mins to Wrightsville beach). My only complaint was the cleanliness. The closet door was very sticky, there were random brown marks on the walls, hair in the bathroom/shower walls, crumbs under the couch, and there was a random pill on the floor. We just picked up the pill and threw it away, however if we had children the outcome could have been bad! read more

Standard hotel experience. I believe it's a bit of an older hotel, but the price is right. Staff was efficient and got us checked in quickly and friendly. Breakfast was standard just like any hotel breakfast. Our room was spotless and I am picky about hotel room cleanliness. Beds were comfy. The one con: i HATE when hotel bathroom showers only have the cloth liner and no plastic in between and this one did. But that is the only complaint. It is a nice place, but one employee ruined it for me. That's why the two stars. I had a really long drive with a tour bus with people from New York City to Wilmington. Got settled in my room for a good sleep, and some inconsiderate person black female calls and wakes me up at 10pm and doesn't apologize for calling or waking me up for that matter and insisted asking Who i was! And When did I check in! I can not believe this person!! No apology or care in the world!! Rude and obnoxious!! This employee needs to be consulted and trained how to deal with customer service and how to speak to a guest!!! They breakfast attendant also needs to learn how to speak to guests. I went to get water from the machine like two minutes after breakfast hours was finished and she scolded me "breakfast is over!" I politely asked for hot water which was suppose to be on the counter anyways. Why do these people have to treat people so nasty. I don't get it.. Single Use Keys and Bumpy Beds. While in Wilmington, I suggest visiting Boomalotty Ice Cream shop next to a place named Palates. The Fairfield Inn however, well, read on. Yes, this is a review during the end of COVID. It's May 2021. We are here for a soccer tournament and hotels in Wilmington are sold out. We are Not paying low COVID rates. Over $200 for a room. So this hotel and industry is doing ok now. Our room contained two double beds. The beds in the room are beyond their useful life. There are significant bumps at the edges of the beds with a dip in the middle. If you like the feeling of sleeping on a hammock, this is your place. The keys. Ah, the keys. Here's a tip. Every time you are returning to your room, pit stop by the front desk and get your room keys reprogrammed. Twice we went to the room after being out and had to go back down in the elevator because the keys didn't open the door. The door showed us the "rejected" red light as the keys didn't unlock the door. The nice lady at the counter asked if I had placed the keys near a cell phone or in a wallet, which is standard process for a hotel to ask and yes, I stay at a few hotels throughout the year and I know not to do this even though you would think key programming technology would consider people have cell phones. Anyway, I said no, and she was very nice, apologized and reprogrammed the keys again. Guess what? They worked once again. read more

I come to Wilmington 2-3 times a year on business and I have stayed here several times. During this visit we are all still under Covid19 restrictions so there has been some changes that aren't normal so I won't expose those. However, this visit wasn't quite the same as those in the past. I've never had a bad stay here and this wasn't one either but some updates that caught my attention that concern me are as follows. When I got to the room the door was propped open by the inside latch. For me this is an issue for several reasons. 1. Who is in there? 2. Has someone hidden a camera without staff being aware. 3. Did someone steal something I will be held accountable for. And several others. I called the front desk and the reason I got was this is our new practice. I don't like that. Usually, in a hotel if the toilet paper roll is less than half, it is replaced. This visit had two quarter rolls with no replacement. Maybe their running low but come on. Then this third thing that really bothered me. They no longer leave the complimentary shampoo/conditioner/lotion bottles. Instead, they have attached a triple section bottle holder in the shower. This means everyone uses the same stuff, the same pumps, and they can very easily be sabotaged with something other than what they are intended. These weren't even cleaned or wiped off. GROSS!!!! I am a Marriott user and stay at many of them throughout the year. To be honest, after this visit, I will think twice about returning to this one in the future. read more

Downgrading my rating. I am a big fan of Marriott properties. Most have new interiors after new builds or complete renovations. The interiors are what you'd expect in terms of finishes. My newest measure of hotels are the cleanliness of their a/c units as it determines whether I may leave after one night healthy or not. This particular room smelt funny when I arrived and it wasn't a shock to find one of the sources that happens to circulate air. The a/c unit was really disgusting. The upside: every time I've stayed here the front desk staffer is always friendly, there is a complimentary breakfast and no onsite parking fee. read more

I've stayed at a lot of Fairfield Inns before but this was by far the nicest one. Situated a little bit away from the downtown area of Wilmington it still has plenty of places that are walkable to for dining. Arrived a bit early but they had no problem checking in. We had a King bed that as far as hotels go had one of the best mattresses I've ever slept on. Seriously, it's way better than my home one that I painstakingly chose. Super nice staff all around (maybe it's a Southern thing, but every person in general wishes you a good day. I'm too used to New York for all that). Room was absolutely immaculate and pretty spacious. Small pool and gym available and the day room was quite cozy with a fireplace and overstuffed couches and TV's. Breakfast was included and it was no paltry continental, it was a full breakfast with lots of options. Would definitely stay here if I am ever in Wilmington again. read more

We stayed here for one night recently and it was such a carefree check-in and stay. We got into town earlier and was able to check in to our room 3 hours early, without the least bit of hassle. The front desk staff were all congenial and helpful. The rooms were decent sized and the AC worked efficiently. The kids loved the indoor pool and the continental breakfast. I must say having scrambled eggs and freshly cooked bacon was a big surprise for me on a hotel breakfast bar, so that impressed me. We stayed at this property on a recent trip to the beach. The location is super convenient, about halfway between downtown Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. Check-in was a breeze, the room was spacious and clean, parking was plentiful and all was quiet! We used the indoor pool until it closed at 11pm. It's too small for lap swimming but adequate for lounging around as was our objective. One note: the provided pool towels were awkwardly small, almost like hand towels. The bath towels in the room were normal-sized. We took advantage of the complimentary breakfast in the morning, which was easily one of the best breakfast spreads I've seen a hotel provide for free. There isn't a single thing I would change about our visit (except maybe my sunburn)! Thanks for a perfect stay, we look forward to returning! read more

We had a brief stay here on my very first visit to Wilmington. The hotel was clean and inviting. Our check in was a bit old. We were given our room keys, but wasn't given our room number. We also had an issue with our room, we were given a wheel chair friendly room. But it wasn't friendly for us because we could not lock in the shower head at a normal level. Which means we had to shower while holding the shower head in one hand. You can only imagine. I mentioned this to the front desk person the next morning telling them we would like a different room. The hotel manager overheard and stepped over to apologized. I thought that was nice of him. Later, when we got keys to our new room, we had been given a roomy suite, which was not necessary but appreciated. Another plus, breakfast was included. Food choice were nice and includes treats like biscuits and gravy. Would definitely stay here again. read more

I'm a Marriott fan and travel a lot for work so I usually seek out Marriott hotels because you usually know what to expect. However, not true of this particular hotel. This was the dirtiest Fairfield Ive ever stayed in. The curtains and bed sheets were both stained with what looked like blood, the bed had food crumbs under the covers, the coffee cups, although wrapped in plastic, were dirty, the carpets were not vacuumed and the tub was stained. The gym was grossly dirty and the machine were corroded. Management should focus on turning this place around. There are other cleaner hotels in the area that will knock this one out the neighborhood. Very disappointed. read more

This is the worst hotel stay in my entire life! You can hear every door slam shut and open down the hallway, it's ridiculous! I checked in about 4pm and tried to take a quick nap but OMFG the whole room shakes when someone closes a door and it did not stop until 11pm . Of course people get up early to go to work, well the slamming of the doors started at 430am, are you fffkkkggg kidding me! Whoever designed this hotel should be stoned to death! We love to swim and it was extremely cold at the beach one day so we decided to stay at the hotel and swim, but the pool is closed until June of 2019. I was in town for a half marathon and checked in the day before the race. When I asked at check in about the breakfast time and found it was going to start after I already had to be in the starting corral, the person at the front desk was proactive in asking the manager if I could get a yogurt and plain oatmeal packet early the next morning. The manager commented that a number of runners were staying there and that they'd open the food up at 5a for us. Nothing hot--which is AOK--but that was just fantastic and each of us down at that time noted how much we appreciated that gesture! My room was clean and neat, though some of the furniture was quite worn. The bedding was comfortable and I got a great night of sleep! Bathroom was fairly standard, but the closet was great as it was accessible from both the bathroom and the 'front hall' area. Kitchen area was small but well planned and I love a full size fridge vs. a mini! Hotel was very crowded, it did not seem there was an open room in the entire place, but the downstairs common areas were kept very clean, coffee and tea were kept up and parking was more than sufficient. The woman behind the front desk (name escapes me) was so pleasant at check in and the following day at checkout I had an equally lovely experience with that team member as well. Very pleased and would absolutely stay there again if my travels ever take me back to Wilmington! read more

This hotel was a nice birthday getaway for me and my lady. The area is right off a major street which we thought would be pretty noisy but it was actually fairly quiet, so they must have good wall insulation. Pricing was decent for being near a popular location. We hit the beach the morning after our stay and checkout was a breeze. Interacting with the staff was fun and entertaining. They were extremely polite and highly sociable, which we enjoyed. If you're in Wilmington and want to avoid paying the expensive prices the hotels downtown offer, I recommend this hotel as a quality alternative. read more
