This is a very cute little toy store in Fairhaven. The rag dolls in the window glass display caught my attention. The toy store has toys for all ages from board games to new born dolls. The staff was very friendly. It was definitely a joy to look at some of the toys in the store. The store itself is not big but has a lot of items for sale. I confess that I--a childless adult--do have a few stuffed animals around the house. But I've always felt a bit self-conscious about this. Why? I do not know. No good reason at all. If something good makes you happy, go for it! That said, when my partner and I were wandering around Fairhaven recently, he spotted Fairhaven Toy Garden and said with enthusiasm, "Let's go!" I kinda pulled away. "Really!?!?" I probably rolled my eyes. But I love him and like to indulge him and make him happy. OMG! Well, I am just going to have to get over my ridiculous stuffed animal inhibition, because now I have a house-full. I follow my partner inside and lo! He points a lop-eared rabbit puppet at me which is so life-like that, despite my brain saying it isn't real, my hand naturally reaches out to pet it. (I'm sure it was a sneaky ploy on his part to get some petting himself.) I was awestruck. One gift to me later (I have a very sweet man, but we now have to surmise that there is a wee bit of calculation in him), and I'm buying up half the store. I cannot comment much about the store as a whole as they very wisely put all their plush friends right smack-dab in the entry so that you cannot move for at least two hours as you explore and play with them all. I was very impressed with their offerings of Folkmanis puppets and Wild Republic and Ecokins stuffed animals--beautiful! My long-limbed vervet monkey now hangs from the pantry knob where I keep my pet food and where it can protect it from my very real cat who, otherwise, continually claws at the door to open it. Having accomplished that, I now have a little raccoon friend, made from recycled plastic water bottles (you'd never guess this!), to hang out atop my delicate printer so said real cat will no longer jump up on it, risking its destruction in seeking a shorter leap to my window sill. Fun, charming and practical too. Who knew?!?! The staff were wonderful, at the ready to help and smiling the whole while, watching us with amusement. (They probably have some of the happiest jobs in the world.) Highly recommended, and see if you can get past the animals to see what other delights might be inside. read more

This little gem of a toy store is chock full of unique toys for toddlers to teens. I can describe my experience here in just one word .. . . JOYFUL. Everywhere I looked there was something to make my heart sing. I had to pull our girls away from this store after walking through for a half an hour. They absolutely loved it! There were Jelly Cat stuffed animals along with other well know brands, art supplies, puzzles, baby gifts, Manhattan brand toys and stuffed animals, kites, and anything else you could think of for kids to choose from. This is the newest, cutest toy store in Bellingham. Just as a testament to their cuteness, there latest window display consisted of fabric and wooden elves in a wooden house! You must walk by and take a look. Great selection of wooden and educational toys, from Haba to Magic Cabin fairies. Extra plus for crafters: they sell roving for all of your needle felting projects by the ounce. I didn't know that anyone did that! read more

This has got to be the "Toys are Us" of Bellingham! I've been wandering into this store for the better part of ten years whenever I'm in Fairhaven. I don't have kids--I am a kid! I love games, puzzles and especially puppets. I've bought many of them, hand puppets, furry ones, large ones, tiny ones, ones that look real enough (a toad, a frog, a turtle) that sit on my tables and couches at home, ones that I used to take to parties (remember those?). Last week when I visited I asked the salesperson who is most fascinated by the place. "An interesting and a tough question," she responded. "Probably both." Doesn't surprise me. I found little games I remember as a child, and if I looked around enough I could probably find a Duncan Yo-Yo long forgotten and last seen tangled up in my closet (if I still have it)! Have I mentioned that I bought a few crazy costume hats there about five years ago? Hanging in the hallway and on doors. Great place for puzzle shoppers, too. Don't get toys on line. I love visiting this toy store with my family. I think they have the best selection of toys that you can find in the area that are not cheaply made nor "plasticy", if that makes sense. I get all my wood toys here for my young daughter. I also like to find little things for me, as I am a man-child as well. There is a nice selection of board games and odds-and-ends types games to explore. I really like the atmosphere inside and the staff are ready to help. This toy store is chock full of all sorts of educational items for children (and those young at heart). Games, puzzles, cards, art supplies, costumes- even those little jewelry boxes with the ballerinas in them like I had when I was a little girl. We purchased a counting game for my nephew, and prices are a bit high, but personally, I don't mind supporting local business and the tradeoff is rewarding. I recently moved here to Bellingham. And was lucky enough to stumble upon this awesome toy store. I need to say, until my Last two visits, all my shopping experiences here have been stellar. It's important for me to say I moved her because every time we have visitors(and we have a lot) this is one of the first places I bring them. We seriously do not have toy stores like this where we come from. My visit second to last visit, I brought a gf of mine, her daughter and my two kids(one boy and one girl,5&6). My 5 year old has learning disabilities and she's about 2 mentally. When we've come in, in the past, she immediately gets on the wooden tricycle and rides on it. So this day we had actually come to buy the wooden bike. Erin, came up to my daughter and said "this is for babies, you can't be on this, so I'm gonna need you to get off, ok" Well.... I can tell you we then didn't purchase the bike. Erin followed me and my friend around hovering. Almost as if we were stealing. I felt very uncomfortable. I would ask my gf something about a toy and Erin immediately responded, she was beyond hovering. It was uncomfortable. We left and I apologized to my friends telling them this is normally an extremely pleasant place to shop. I also know, every dog has his day. Erin was and is entitled to bad days. However, my very best friend and her family are here visiting (my bff has been here to visit before and she had been to toy garden. She had a great experience and wanted to go back) we went back because my bff wanted too and it's her vacation. Great, it's erin again. Well, she again hovers and again responds to me when I'm speaking to someone else. And then, I left something I purchased behind. Well, I'm my opinion and my friends opinion as well as her husband, agree that Erin had MORE than enough time to stop me and tell me I left a purchase behind. If not stop me in the store then why not outside. We stood out there getting the kids all taken care of. She had plenty of time to tell me I let a purchase. Of course the toy that was left behind was for my son congratulating him on moving up belts in karate. I absolutely feel like Erin treats me as if I'm stealing and then I think she might actually have a personal problem with me. And i dont know why???? Look, I've personally spend a ton of money. But I'm strungkng in our of town people constantly. I'm not sure I'll ever come back. At least not while she's there. It's gonna be a shame if she's the owner!! read more

Of all the toy stores in Bham this is my favourite! If your looking for those garish plastic really popular themed toys this is NOT the place for you. Their toys are mostly wooden and traditional styles and quite adorable. The have all the basics for little kids like rattles and pull alongs, for older kids dress up and imagination play, for older yet crafts and board games. Their larger toys are AMAZING and really good prices, I got my niece a a rocking dragon chair for under a hundred bucks a couple fo years ago that when she grew out of I thought she was gonna cry. I love this place and it makes me feel good to buy local when i shop there. read more

There is a huge selection of gifts for kids of all ages, a large variety of price points (important if you're on a budget), and I like the fact they have workshops here, to learn crafts. This is a wonderful toy store! It has gifts for all ages, so it's an easy place to shop for multiple kids. The service is always consistent and great. If I am having trouble finding a gift, the staff is always very helpful with many suggestions. What I end up buying is always a hit. They also have a little birthday sign up. This store has the cutes stuff. All the toys are wooden and they have a huge selection from optical illusion to puppets to wagons to music toys. The toys each have their originality and the prices are pretty decent for all the detailing and work put into them. Some toys are old school and focus on education. I am so disappointed in this place. I was in with my kids and they had all these cool rulers with great historical figures on them. The rulers had only male figures and I have a daughter, so I asked at the counter if there were any rulers with females on them. She directed me to a first ladies option. I asked if there were any that were based on achievements other than who the women were married to. She told me no, the company didn't make anything but that one option. I bought the first ladies ruler, brought it home, and googled the maker's stamp on it. Turns out that Rich Frog (the maker of the ruler) makes rulers featuring great women scientists, artist, musicians, and represents them alongside men as well in categories like aviation. Toy Garden just doesn't care to represent women's achievements for the girls that shop there. read more

My wife and I were up in Fairhaven several weekends ago and stopped in to pick up a toy for our nephew. This really is the best toy store I can remember shopping at. Yes, it has the 'cute' items, great selection of tea sets, dress up, toy kitchen playsets, mobiles, wooden toys, etc. but also a wonderful selection of everything else too - great diecast selection, kites, science sets, building sets, toy boats, awesome marbles, art supplies, trains, airplanes, etc. etc. Whoever does the buying for this little outfit does a GREAT job. Prices are unexpectedly good for a small shop like this. No, they don't have nintendo - thank goodness. If you live up there and need to pickup a toy for a child or grandchild you should pass up the chain stores stop here. read more

My son, his wife & family moved to Bellingham 6 months ago. I came up for an extended Christmas visit. I'll be moving to Bellingham in February. My grandson is 4-1/2 and my grandaughter 14 months. We had gelato across the street and came into The Toy Garden to browse and shop. It is an impressive toy store, to be sure; well-organized with a fantastic selection of high quality toys, puzzles, etc. We just had Christmas so weren't in major buying mode. We needed a box of chalk and a roll of drawing paper for an easel. The only box of chalk they had cost $18.95, with tax!! I was in a good mood - thanks to the gelato, and laid out for the two items. When we got home and opened the box there were two broken sticks of chalk. I decided to return it. If I'm going to pay $17 bucks for 8 pieces of chalk, I don't expect them to be broken. My daughter in law ended up returning the chalk; she had the receipt with her. The clerk started the return and then the manager stepped up and began questioning whether they would accept the return. She started by stating that this was very high-quality artists chalk; the best. Okay, then (1) why is it broken, and (2) why did you sell it to us when we said we wanted chalk for our 4 year old, and (3) why are you selling $19 artists chalk in a toy store for kids? It was the only chalk they stocked. Next, she quibbled and fussed, and suggested that without the credit card used for the purchase at hand, it might be stolen. That's right, she insulted my daughter in law with the vile insinuation that she just might be a thief. In the end, she, the incompetent, rude, ill-mannered manager reluctantly issued a store credit. Which I subsequently tore to shreds, because we will NEVER so much as enter this pathetic, stupidly managed store again, for any reason, EVER. read more

Best toy shop I've been to in years. In fact, it is hard to find a toy shop nowadays with everyone shopping online. I am from out of town. I stopped here with my son, daughter-in-law and twin grandsons. She was looking for costumes for The Renaissance festival for her twins. She found just what she wanted. I bought a wagon for each of the boys. It was hard to choose from so many great toys! The employees were kind and allowed the boys to play with some of the toys. There isn't much I wouldn't do to avoid going to a toy store. But this one is fun, even for me. Just be prepared if going on a weekend that there will be a lot of people, as it's very popular. Kids, as well as adults, love it. The only down side is that it's really expensive. I only shop for toys when a niece or nephew has a birthday, so it's not bad for me. But if I was buying toys more regularly, this wouldn't be the first place I would go just because of the prices. read more

What a treasure - this store offers toys for kids from newborn to middle school, service is great, and the variety is extensive. They have a rewards program, that while not overly generous is very adequate. Some of the cutest toys I've seen at birthday parties have come from this store. I love this place. I don't live in Bellingham but I'm often there for work and to visit friends. I always make a point to stop and see what is new or pick up gifts. I also have family members that I regularly order online for for birthdays and holidays and always get great service. I often interact with Erin and she's always been super helpful and really knows the products. I've even contacted her for online purchases to ask for recommendations and she has never disappointed with suggested items that have been great hits with the kids in my friends and family. I confess that I camped out here with my two kids while my wife went shopping with her parents. The kids were easily entertained for about an hour. They played with the marble maze contraption, the bucket and pulley, the train set, the doll house - you name it. The toys were all high quality. The staff did not seem bothered in the least that we were there. There is also a hidden toy that you can look for. If you find it, you get a prize, which my older son did. He picked a nice Chinese yoyo out of a chest of prizes. Highly recommended. read more

Toy shops should be fun, personal, local and magical. Fairhaven Toy Store accomplishes this! They have a rich selection of goodies for kids under 10. They have pedestals in the store at different heights to engage people of different ages. We got this magnet game where you place magnets on a mat, the more you place the more likely they will be attracted to one another with a loud snap from the magnets and a satisfying startle response from the game players. Not particularly cerebral but definitely silly and fun! read more
