Hospice was called in for my step-father. This was after years of treatment for cancer. He got to…read morethe point where continuing treatment was to difficult. It got to the point where multiple family members had to stay at night to sleep in shifts. He is constantly up and down and it has become to difficult for the family to manage. Crisis care was called in to assist with the transition. Most of the nurses were extremely helpful and understanding. That was until Sara showed up to "evaluate" the need to be here. Sara showed up and did not even introduce herself to the family. She sat in her car for, I don't know how long. As my step father would move from room to room she would stay in a separate room and assisted very little with anything. She had minimum involvement with anything besides her phone and computer. She advised the decision was being made to cancel their care because his symptoms were manageable. The nurse who was here the previous 12 hours could only show it being managed for 1/4 of the time she was here. Sara informed us that doctor Donnard (not sure if the spelling is correct) was making the call. When asked to speak to the doctor she said the best she could do was try to have them call us. When asked for the doctors boss Sara replied she does not know. This has been a horrendous experience on top of the years spent going through this. The company has advised they will be sending another nurse. Hopefully this one has more tact and professionalism than Sara. Will update review based on visit. *Update* The nurse sent after has been amazing. She was attentive and responsive to the needs of my step-father. It appears the issue was with the individual nurse and not the company.

Mother-in-law admitted here after a brief hospital stay for a pelvic fracture. Insurance covered…read morefirst two weeks during which time she received both occupational and physical therapy. We did notice that she was in bed during most if the day but thought that was due to the injury. We were in the process of getting her admitted a an assisted living facility and needed to have her stay until we could arrange the move. She went onto self patient status. All therapies were promptly halted. We were not given any option other than us continuing working with her. In fact the staff simply began to ignore her. She was never up and dressed and often left in dirty wet soiled diaper. So much so that she developed a urinary tract infection. We actually had to take her to the ER to get any treatment As the nursing staff told us it would be a minimum of 4 days before they could prescribe an antibiotic. I challenged an aide regarding the total lack of care and was told "what can I do, I have 26 patients and no other help. We had to change her bedding and her diaper many times ourselves due to the severe understaffing and complete lack of concern from staff that were working. In short, put your loved one here but exercise extreme oversight and for heavens sake do not overstay your insurance coverage. By the way the extra two weeks cost us $6,135.

Where do I start? Father in law was a long-term resident there for several years. He was given cold…read moreshowers the last four months as did everybody else, probably still going on because a few aides care enough to check the temperature of the water. He then refused showers. Back at the end of September he had a couple accidents in his electric wheelchair (banged his leg on the bed and ran into a table). This resulted in the independence of his controls to be taken away. We were OK with that because we never wanted him to be treated differently. Another resident ran into other residents, so she also lost her independence with her controls. The physical therapy manager promised for four months he would be working with my father-in-law to get his independence back with his controls. I even got a prescription from his doctor for physical therapy for them to work with him three times. He really had no intentions of working with my father-in-law. He is just a yes, man!! Flirts with the girls rather than spend time working!! Father-in-law stop getting out of bed and his appetite declined badly. Only time he would eat good is when we brought him in food a couple times a week. To save him from being depressed, we moved him and to get him better care because it was not changing. It was just getting worse!! In less than 3 weeks he gained his independence back with his controls (1st week in the new amazing facility), He is getting physical therapy 2 to 4 times a week. He is also getting use of his crippling hand now (which should've happened a year ago). He doesn't stay in bed now and he gets his normal showers and shaves, which makes him much happier!! They never helped brushing his teeth neither! We would go in two days in a row and he would still be in same clothes. Hygiene really lacks there!! I feel great getting him out of there. I know many other residents have left Canal also. Some of the staff has too!! Can't blame them. This place needs to regroup. You cannot operate with very little staff in a nursing home to take care of the elderly.
