Small pet local, neighborhood pet shop with a huge selection of pet food, toys and supplies. The prices are truly amazing and I haven't been to and big name pet stores since I've visited this one. I've been here twice and saved quite few dollars compared to what I use to spend at Petco. I'm not sure if they offer and services, but they did have a few cats in the window for adoption! I adore this cozy pet shop! I recently rescued a cat and needed guidance on everything from flea treatments to types of food as I have never owned a cat before. The kind employees helped me find everything that I needed and gave honest recommendations. The young woman at the register was so sweet-- she spent a good amount of time answering my many questions and sharing lots of valuable tips! Since that day, I have stopped in again to pick up more food, toys, and treats. They have a great selection and it's so fun to see their animals wandering around within the store. On top of everything, I love that it's within walking distance. This will definitely be my go to pet shop! read more

I really love this place and am so glad it's in the neighborhood. Even during COVID, they've been able to adapt and deliver great service to their customers. I really enjoy this store. My house is basically connected to it and until I owned a cat I only knew this shop as the place with the kittens in the window that I loved walking past so much. I walked in on a whim to grab some canned food for my kitten as I didn't want to trek to Unleashed (silly me I should have been coming here all along). I was greeted by the friendliest lab/great dane maybe? mix dog who followed me around the store while I got my cat food. At this point things are going well. I go into the back to get the food, this place is packed to the gills with supplies for dogs and cats and maybe fish/other animals. They have a good selection of high quality pet foods (grain free/speciality foods in particular), it is I would say slightly cheaper here that PetSmart or Petco? At the cash register are two very old cats who are a bonded pair which warms my heart. They also have a killer return policy similar to say Sephora's where they let you return food if your pet is not a fan. They also have a loyalty program which is nice considering they are a small business. My only challenge is sometimes I wish they were open an hour or a half hour later during the week as they are only open till 7pm, and this is around the time when I remember we are out of cat food or cat litter. Otherwise I will continue going here for my feline's needs and to wish I could take every cat/kitten for rescue here home with me. read more

This is a wonderful little shop with fun gifts and treats for your pet(s) and always adorable cats displayed in the window looking for loving homes. For me, the best thing about this place is the staff...they are really sweet and helpful. The best surprise was seeing that the store carries CTE Vibrac dental care products for dogs and cats. Vibrac is expensive but the best out there for enzyme chews. Very happy to have stepped inside on a rainy day and discovered this shop. read more

I am obsessed with cats. For my birthday a couple of weeks ago, my boyfriend got me a t-shirt with a picture of my two cats on it that says "BEST FRIENDS". One of these cats was adotped from Fairmount Pet. Everyone who works here is very nice and you can tell they are all animal lovers. I love the store's resident animals walking around and I appreciate their selection of goodies for cats (and dogs, even though I'm not a dog owner). Also, they don't carry your standard pet food brands, only the good stuff. Obviously, the best part of this store is their adoptions. One day on our way to Philly Flavors in May, admist a several week-long hunt for a companion cat for my first baby, my boyfriend and I stopped to look in window of Fairmount Pet. They had closed for the day already, and I had been in practically every day for about a week, but there were three new kitties in the window. Immediately, one caught my boyfriend's eye. "I like that one." I came back the next day and took him out of the cage and he stretched his little head up and touched his nose to mine. I WAS IN LOVE! Within a few days, I took him home and now the four of us are one happy family. I love that their adoptions have a good turn-around. It warms my heart. There are always cats being adopted out, including the occasional adult cat, which I appreciate. And I know that they are sure to give all of their animals good, warm homes. I think a visit to FPS is a must for any cat lover or pet owner. Adopt adopt adopt! read more

As a huge fan of cats, I love this place. My boyfriend and I wandered in one day while we were on a walk and after a few minutes of the little one-eyed kitty following us around and purring, that was it for me. Besides having loads of cute cats for sale and just generally living there, they also have a ton of supplies for kitties and puppies alike. They have a huge food section in the back with both wet and dry food -- and a good amount of the wet food is in really awesome, unusual flavors (Turducken, anyone?). The front is filled with everything from pet clothes to bowls, leashes, collars, toys, treats -- you name it, they've got it. It's a tiny bit more expensive than your PetCo or PetSmart... but the way I see it, not only am I helping a local business, but I'm contributing to a place that obviously takes in kitties who are in need and I'm helping pay for their care. And to me, that's completely worth it -- my kitty is from the cold streets of Philly, and I know there are TONS more out there who need a good home. In my book, anyone who saves an animal is top notch. :) read more

Having worked 5 doors down from Fairmount Pet Shoppe for the last few months, I have been passing by and seeing the oh-so-cute kitties in the windows for a while now. Today, I finally relented and went in. Know this about me: I love cats. I have 8 cats. My mission in life is making them happy. The wife and I buy them the best food we can, groom them and keep them general pampered pusses. I am a cat person. Soooo it is with AWSOMENESS that finally a pet shop opened which caters more to cats than dogs. Let's face it- dogs get the glory. Every pet shop- from the small boutique to the overwhelming superstores- is about 60% dogs, 25& cats, 15% everything else. But not Fairmount Pet Shoppe. This joint is 75% cats. Who cares what else is there? NOT ME!!! Cat toys, cat grooming products, cat treats and best of all- CATS! Props for spelling "shop" the way they do. Pointless. And cool. read more

Fairmount Pet Shoppe is the place to get my puppies what they need, I come here at least three times a month! The store is located on a prime spot on Fairmount Avenue. Whenever I am walking my girls, they drag me into the shop! The owner, Courtney is wonderful and knows her stuff and always asks about my pups when I come in. The staff is always nice and helpful. The great thing about it, if you are trying out a new dog food and it gets put on the "I won't eat this" list, she will gladly take the unused portion back, which most places will not do. I've also come back with a lead years ago, that was chewed through and she gladly sent it back to the company and gave me a new one. This is one of the only places in town to get Primal Raw food! They will gladly do a special order if they are out. I love the selection of food and treats as well as great brands of clothing, leashes and bowls. They are all of the holistic nature so nothing that is bad for your fur babies here. This tend to be on the pricier side, than the standard commerical pet stores ie) Petco, but you are getting a much better quality. She also does a wonderful job adopting out her kittens in her window and participates in local adoption events in town. She has some permenant residents of the store that welcome you when you walk through the door. As long as I am in the neighborhood, I will always support Fairmount Pet Shoppe! Love this little cozy pet shop. Staff is always very friendly. Good selection of stuff (just wish they carried more for reptiles). The owner (I think?) complimented my bangs one day but expressed she had a fear of doing hers. I told her how I do mine and the next time I came in she had done her bangs (tickled me and she looked so cute with them). Also, I requested a particular size frozen mouse and within days for a call to come in and pickup my request. I love this place so much. read more

I have to say, I waffle on this store. On the one hand, I love supporting a local business, but on the other, the indifference of the staff and poor customer service is not worth it to me. My cat has specific dietary requirements. So, I was in the store about a month ago and asked if they carry the food. The person I dealt with said no, but they could order it. I think to myself, that is great. I call this morning to have them order the food. Call me shocked when the sales associate my wife spoke to said no, they wouldn't order, and wouldn't stock it. I'm sorry, but if you say you are going to do something, you should do it, not flat out lie. This experience, and the horrible service/attitude are enough to get me to stop going to the Pet Shoppe. This place is soooooo cute!! I found out about it through Yelp, back when my bf and I were just beginning to look for kittens to adopt. Fairmount Pet Shoppe popped up as a potential place since they help adopt out cats through their store for the PSPCA. I ended up going there alone since grad school consumes my bf's mind, body and soul, and its a bit of a hike for me from CC but totally worth it. The place is slightly smaller than I expected but packed with tons of quality pet products for your every pet-related need. The kitties that are up for adoption are on display right by the front window, and literally every single person who walks by stops and looks at them (and usually comes in, too). I spent probably 30 minutes playing with the kittens they had - they're soooooooooo cute!!!! - as well as the resident store pets who roam around. The store is clearly their domain. And the staff are so sweet! After I had my fill of kittens (and before the urge to sneak one into my bag hit me), I chatted with the woman who was there about cat adoptions and the whole process I would have to go through in order to (legally) bring a cutie or two home with me. Good thing my bf wasn't with me, because I could very easily have filled out the application right then and there! read more

I'm always happy to support a local shop and keep the money in the community, so when I recently took in a homeless cat it was a no-brainer to go to Fairmount Pet Shoppe. Not ever having a cat before, I was overwhelmed with the amount of supplies I needed, and was low on money at the time. I suspected my cat had fleas but I could not afford the expensive treatment offered to me by the store associate, and when I noted my low funds, the clerk gave me a rude look. OKAY, I understand that it is up to me to do the best for the cat, but I wasn't even certain that fleas were the problem. We're in a recession here, people! I bought flea bath and spray which was about half the price of the recommended treatment and the clerk was again rude while I was checking out. (It turned out my cat just had dry skin, anyway.) There was someone in front of me in line who must have been a regular and the clerk beamed with joy while conversing with her. The moment the customer walked off and it was my turn to check out, she looked at me blankly and told me my total. Although they have a nice variety of supplies, the customer service is lacking in kindness to new customers. Being helpful and understanding is how you build your clientele. So I will be back but only because I like to shop locally. read more

This shop is small, but they cram a lot of great items in it. I love their kittens in the window and their cats that wander around the shop. But they always entice me to adopt all of them become a crazy (crazier?) cat lady. I first came here because I need some supplies for one of my sick cats on a day my vet was closed. The staff was knowledgeable about the foods they carry, all of which are good quality (Wellness, Nutro, ect.). We have our lovelies on Solid Gold right now, which chain pet stores sometimes do not carry, and they love it. Bonus, they carry the bulk size. They also stock e-collars, I was afraid they didn't have them, but they're behind the counter. No more ripping out stitches for Pickles! There is a $10 minimum for credit cards, so make sure you have cash if you just need some treats or a little toy. They do not have feeding syringes for sale, but will suggest a few nearby vets who will give or sell them to you. read more

3.5 stars This is a nice little shop on Fairmount near L'Oca and Mugshots. They have some nice toys and some really nice brushes for cats and dogs. The prices are a bit higher than if you went to a mongo pet warehouse/big box store but I think they might be of somewhat better quality. They have a nice variety of cats and kittens sitting in the front window and wandering around the store. I have come very close several times to adopting one(I usually use the equivalent of Margaret Thatcher to deflate my excitement, in this case thinking of the vet bills). The staff, well there has only been one lady, is friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, a nice spot to go if you live in the area and don't feel like traveling to the nearest giganto pet store. read more

I have been shopping here for two years. Very friendly staff. They always ask if I need help and are glad to show me the kind of product I am looking for. They recently helped me select a new dog food as we try to trouble shoot my dog's recent stomach issues. They were super knowledgeable and seemed to know way more than my vet when it comes to ingredients that could cause stomach upset. The new food seems to be doing really well. I find their prices reasonable. And, I love supporting a mom and pop store, especially since Petco has opened up not so far away. Bonus that they have helped to adopt so many cats and provide great window entertainment on evening strolls past their store. read more

Excellent shop! This place has everything you need for pet care basics. I went in for cat litter and decided to pick up some toys suggested to me by the woman at the register. The toys were cheap and my cats LOVED them! This cute little store carries many different brands of food and litter as well as grooming supplies, home supplies (boxes, scratch posts, etc), and supplements for fur, ears, and eyes. There are also some friendly cats waiting to be adopted hanging out in the front! Overall this store is a fantastic local option for all your pet needs. read more

I'm sad to say this place has been a major disappointment every single time I've gone in. The staff (one person in particular- young woman with light brown or blondish hair often working the register) is incredibly rude and the thought of having to go here to grab more dog food when I run out gives me anxiety. This person acts so put out when you walk in the door she doesn't even make eye contact or say hello. One time I was rushed out because it was closing time (fine I get it we all want to go home after a long day) but I had left my coffee mug inside and when I knocked on the door to get it back she shook her head at me and walked away. I continued to knock and she yelled WE'RE CLOSED!!" I had literally just walked out .. she couldn't even see what it was I needed as clearly I had left something?? Only with my insistence did she finally open the door and ask what?? and practically threw it at me and slammed the door again. I've been hoping she was just in a bad mood but I live down the street and every time I go in here she's wholly unpleasant. I prefer to give my business to smaller local shops but not this place. I'll be walking the extra blocks to the big pet store on Callowhill. Can the owner please talk to her?? Is she the owner? If so that's tragic! read more

I have no idea why it took me six months of moving to the neighborhood to finally visit this adorable little store! I brought my pup here to escape the window and get him a delicious dehydrated treat of some sort. There's quite a bit of variety with the dog treats, and the prices are pretty great too. They also sell pet food and have plenty of toys too! The best part is how friendly every employee is- they spoil my fur baby with treats and love each visit! I plan on coming back a minimum of once a week! read more

I just moved next to a small grocery store that only carries low end, corn based pet food. Disappointed with their selection, I searched around for a specialty shop in the area (since I travel by bicycle) and was pleased to discover Fairmount pet shoppe. It is a quaint store with a surprisingly huge selection of toys, treats, food, pet essentials, and even gifts for pet lovers. Being in a rush, I entered the store and immediately started grabbing what I needed for my Boston terrier. The clerk greeted me with a pleasant smile and salutation, but didn't run up and engage me as most small shop clerks do. I appreciated that she just let me do my thing and didn't try to up sell me with anything. Overall the experience was very positive and I was even given a free sample bag of dog treats along with my purchases. I think I just found my regular pet shop. read more

I am responsible for two precious, little lives and finding their food in a new place can be nerve wracking. They gotta eat, but you have to stick to their diet. There are details you have to keep constant. My search for their frozen, raw food was my first priority after moving to Philly. This cute little pet and pet supply store looked like it wouldn't have what I wanted. I was wrong! It's small but it has a huge supply of pet needs, including lots of food. And HUZZAH, the raw food I use is stored in their well-placed freezer. They have a frequent buyer program for it, which will give me a free bag after I buy 12 (an easy task). I would give them five stars except for this: the employees clearly favor cats over dogs. Don't get me wrong, it's clear they love all animals and my pups have been welcomed with love. But as a dog person, I do note that there are more cat products than dog ones. If they had more even space, they might carry the kibble that I use, as well. At least they're happy to order it for me. The staff at Fairmount Pet Shoppe are all great! They are very helpful and approachable. The shop is small but is stocked to the brim with everything you need. This pet store is right around the corner from my apartment, so I go here regularly to purchase food and timothy hay for my two rabbits. They carry Oxbow, the best brand of small-animal food, which is really nice. I'd much prefer to spend a few extra dollars to support a company that produces good food rather than buy the crappy stuff from a chain store. The only gripe I have with this store is that sometimes the smell is unbearable, but I guess that's the downside to having tons of adorable kitties to look at (or adopt, if you're feeling adventurous!). Also, they only take credit cards if your purchase is more than $10, which sometimes is a problem for me. read more
