We adopted our Charlie from Morris back in March and he's been such a wonderful addition to our lives. Charlie was originally at Get A Gato Cafe but got fostered. While being fostered, we visited him and decided to adopt him. The paperwork and adoption process was very smooth thanks to Mica. Mica was super prepared to answer our questions. Morris sent a lot of resources and instructions on how to set up his microchip information. It was also nice having all his medical records. I had a very good experience especially for a first-time cat mom. I would consider adopting from Morris again. read more

Denied adoption of a beautiful kitty on 12/6/24 simply because the kitty had Feline HIV. I believe her name was Snow and she was grey. The women who denied her adoption to me had a less feminine look and it felt as if she was trying to intimidate me or coerce me to violence even though I showed no aggression. The blond woman who was at front desk when you first walk in got up and walked away from the desk without saying a work to me during checkout. I feel she was very disrespectful yet I remained calm and cooperative. I would hate to feel as though I was discriminated against for my race for being more "aggressive" as I did not discriminate against the brunette woman who denied me my first pick kitten for her possible sexuality. Neither racial or sexual orientation discrimination is right yet I felt racial on my end with no disrespect to either women. The red head woman who had to finish my checkout was much kinder and made me feel better about adopting my second choice Shadow. Both the brunette and blonde seemed much nicer to the Caucasian couple that came in as I was leaving who there to pick up foster kittens. Everyone should be treated equally whether race, sexual orientation or disability. They also should not be denied an adoption due to feline hiv as it is very treatable. No matter who you are you should not support this behavior nor allow it to continue. Please report any notes of this even if you are on the fairer side of treatment. read more

Found 3 kittens and took them to Morris Animal Refuge yesterday. Despite being open with more than 6 staff members, they refused to take the kittens. Told me to go to the ACCT (kill shelter). No explanation provided. I pleaded and told them I intended to donate to them. Still refused. Helping innocent animals in need shouldn't be so difficult. Ended up taking the kittens to ACCT. Hopefully, they will get adopted. Gave ACCT a generous donation as well. I have supported Morris Animal Refuge in the past. Even adopted 2 cats from them. NEVER AGAIN. read more

This place is amazing!! We recently adopted our sweet pup from Morris and it was a 10/10 experience. We walked through many SPCAs and the ACCT and were so eager to find the right dog for us. When we got to Morris, it just felt like we were in the right place! A girl I work with had recommended we check it out after hearing that we were searching for a dog to adopt, and I'm so so glad she did! It was nice because it was small and you could tell the animals were well cared for. We adopted our dog on a Friday, and the following Wednesday I had a wellness appointment with our vet, and our new pup is in perfect condition! It could be coincidence, but I really do believe that because Morris is so much smaller, they're able to provide better care for their animals! This shelter does not protect animals. We found an tiny 5 lb dog and found the chip when we went to our vet. The dog had skin infection, toe nails never clipped they were bending sideways, flea ridden, serious hip displaysia, infected eye, heart murmur, mouth full of rotten teeth AND DYED BLUE. Owner was located and we were told to take it to the Morris animal shelter and when we did express our concern about them releasing the dog back to the owner ( who adopted just 6 months) the office staff treated us rude and refused to let us speak to a manager. We were told the shelter can not guarantee the safety of the dog meaning they were going to give it back to the abuser. We are still in awe that not only did they give the dog back to the owner they thought the dog was cute because it was blue meanwhile the poor dog is in pain and it would take at least thousands of dollars to help this dog. This place is horrible and we have already filed two complaints with two organizations hopefully they will shut down or clean their staff. I'm certain the board of directors does not know this goes on. read more

The most darling shelter with some amazing volunteers with really big hearts! What I love most about Morris is that they take in ANY animal, there's no discriminating here! It's a small facility that's we'll run and its staffed with some super hard working people. I just started volunteering here to work with the dogs and I feel so honored to have found such an incredible place! During this difficult time in quarantine, I decided to open my home up to guinea pigs. I contacted MRA through email provided on their website about adopting guinea pigs and Alisa responded within a few days. She is extremely kind, helpful, and understanding. She helped me through the process of filling out an application for adoption and we were approved within a day or two. Unfortunately, the pigs ended up actually being adopted although they were (and still are) listed on their site for adoption, but this isn't a bother to me and I ended up adopting from another place. I just want to write this to say the people here are wonderful and are clearly passionate about what they do, and they do a great job. :) read more

I got two wonderful dogs whom I love dearly. That said, their adoption packet included a recommendation for a pet insurance company. One of my dogs had serious health issues and their endorsed insurance companies refuses to pay my claims. I have submitted the claims multiple times and each time there is some other documentation they require. I contacted Morris and have received no help - not even a reply. Apparently the insurance company paid to be included in the packet and that's all Morris cares about. read more

We adopted my cat here 30 years ago when I was a young girl, so I remembered it as a potential place to find a rescue, this time a dog. We have a bullmastiff puppy at home that I thought would love a forever friend, so when I was walking by MAR one day I stopped in with my son to see what it was like and if there were any potential female dogs. I spoke with a woman sitting at a desk and asked to go back to see the dogs, and she let me back. There was a wonderful woman back there cleaning the cages, and we chatted it up while I my son and I walked around looking at the dogs. There weren't any that I thought would be a good fit, but I was excited about coming back at another time when there might be. When we went back out to the front room and I started talking with the woman at the desk, she started drilling me about my current situation. I told her that we had a bullmastiff puppy who is wonderful but might like a sister, and that I was just starting the process of looking for a female rescue. She immediately started to berate me for having a purebred dog and said it's "people like you" who think they want a fancy dog and then give it up. I was so appalled that I was speechless and couldn't respond properly. Had I had the right state of mind I would have taken her name down and reported her. If I had found a potential good fit, I would have proceeded with a rescue application. But instead, MAR staff insulted and turned away a potential adopter. Instead of wrongly accusing "people like me," the staff member should have said how wonderful it was that I was now considering adoption. And you wonder why more dogs aren't rescued? Shame on MAR. read more

I got my cat Pepper (Cleopatra was her name at the Refuge) here in January and couldn't be more happy with her. Aside from being a little too vocal at 4 in the morning, she came as friendly and as loving as they come and I know it had a lot to do with the staff at the Refuge. The woman, who's name I can't remember Im sorry!, that helped me adopt Pepper was so nice and kept in touch with me about her getting spayed and was nothing but trusting which was nice. Sometimes at animal adoption places people can really give you the third degree which I can understand but I didn't get that feeling here at all. She just wanted to place her in a good home and I think she did! The only thing is they are a little more expensive then the SPCA, they don't vaccinate and they don't microchip. But you can always get all of that done at a reasonable price at the PAWS clinic in West Philly. I really was happy with the refuge and for such a small establishment they seem to really care well for the animals in such small conditions. I have a great respect for the work done here at Morris! I rescue stray cats in my neighborhood and work with a very limited budget. Morris provided low-cost spay/neuter certificates for me to have 5 cats neutered. They also treated me very kindly, let me visit with the dogs and cats in the back while they prepared the certificates. It was a very warm place that showed lots of love to the animals in their care and was very straight forward about what they do. I highly recommend donating or adopting pets with Morris!! read more

Morris animal refuge is a place that really cares about finding animals a forever home. I rescued one of my cats from this location and it was very easy and they were very helpful with any of his medical needs. They also run happy hour events monthly to raise money to support the shelter which are always fun. read more

I was really excited on our way to visit them last night. My boyfriend has visited them before and thought we could take a look to see if there is any cat we might want to adopt. When we got there after work, it was around 6pm. Surprisingly, the door was closed when it's clearly said they open until 7pm on Wednesdays. We tried to call but they don't take voicemail. Hi have adopted two small animals from Morris (Hamsters), I found them to be very helpful and concerned that the animals go to good homes. They ask you to fill out the paper work to make sure that it is ok to have animals at your residents and to make sure you do not have a bad history with animals. The staff was friendly and helpful. The place was clean and the animals looked well taken care of. It seemed to me that the staff cared for all the dogs and cats and other small animals they had. morris provides an invaluable service to the strtays and unwanted pets. i say pets because they will eventually be someone's special friend. I send a donation every xmas and on the anniversary of my father and grandmother's birthdays. I don't usually support "charitable" organizations because i question where this money is going. I know with Morris it is going to feed and care for cats, dogs, birds and whatever else they have. I have used the vouchers for spaying my cats. this is a way to give back for that benefit. All my cats have been rescues, even my purebred siamese that no one wanted..a rescue makes for a close loving relationship. read more
