I'm embarrassed it took me this long to write this review because Doggie Style Pets is such an obvious five-star business. I've been making a conscious effort to show love to the local places that make our neighborhood special, and this one absolutely deserves it. I've been bringing my dog Archie here for grooming for nearly four years, and I've never had a bad experience. The groomers do an excellent job, and Archie always comes out looking great, happy, and proud of his fresh haircut. He has a lot of energy and isn't always the easiest customer, but the team is patient, thoughtful, and clearly cares about the animals they work with. When Archie was a puppy, he would get nervous walking past the store. These days, he's largely outgrown that fear and seems to know that his glow-up is worth the trip. I've compared their grooming prices with those of larger chains like PetSmart and found Doggie Style's pricing fair and competitive. What sets them apart is that you're supporting a local Philadelphia business that genuinely takes the time to get to know its customers and pets. Beyond grooming, the store carries a great selection of treats, food, toys, shampoo, and other pet supplies. The staff is knowledgeable, approachable, and always willing to answer questions. They also frequently have rescue dogs available for adoption, which is always a highlight and a wonderful resource for anyone looking to add a dog to their family. Visiting Philly with our pup and we passed Doggie Style Pets while walking around town. We decided to stop in to get a toy for our bestest girl to play with in our hotel room. We didn't know what we wanted but we did have a few requirements (no squeaker, small size, preferably not stuffed with fuzz, etc. ). The gentleman who greeted us was attentive and helpful. My neighborhood doggie style and a big fan of the staff, selection, and general upkeep of this great location. I like to take Fred in for special occasions and she likes to create mischief by jumping up and licking the display cookies, so everyone wins in the end. Classic selection of toys, themed treats, her Zukes in favorite flavors, and some decent dog food options as well. They don't carry her Purina pro plan but I tend to order that directly to my house so no issues there. I used to really like this place. I had been going there for years with positive experiences. But something has recently changed and I can no longer support this business. After three last-minute cancellations (2 at Spruce St location and 1 at Cinnaminson location), I am just fed up. Each time, I received a same-day or night-before notice canceling my dog's grooming, with no real effort to fit us in sooner or make things right. I completely understand that emergencies happen, but this has become a pattern, not an exception. It's incredibly frustrating to rearrange work and plans for an appointment, only to be told last minute that it's off again. Professionalism means respecting your clients' time and communicating proactively. Unfortunately, this business has not shown that level of reliability or consideration. If you're looking for consistent, dependable service, I'd suggest going elsewhere until they get their scheduling and customer service issues sorted out. read more

Disclaimer - I am not a dog owner, but I am a dog lover. Someone at Doggie Style came up with the ingenious idea of letting volunteers walk rescue dogs that wear "ADOPT ME" bright orange safety vests, for free. Clearly, this is doing a public service to dog lovers in the area. As volunteer dog-walkers, my friends and exchanged many more smiles and pets with people in Rittenhouse Square than we would have otherwise. People expressed interest in adopting the dogs, which explains why most dogs there get adopted in about a week. Today we came back to try to volunteer again but Dawn had just gotten walked. We spent lots of time petting her, though. Doggie Style's concept of "lending" rescue dogs for free was a dream come true since I always wanted a dog growing up but couldn't have one. Update, February--Ashley's work 1 1/2 months later after she destroyed my puppy's hair. I don't foresee it growing in for one year. Just shameful Ashley. 0 stars if I could give it. Do not trust this place. They destroyed my puppy's hair, one month later and still has not grown in. First haircut for my pup done by Ashley was perfection. See pictures of her with her head up and one with her laying down looking beautiful. Went a month after and it was a total disaster that can't be fixed. "Someone" absolutely destroyed my beautiful dog's hair (see rest of pictures). I first went to Ashley in November after waiting one month for an appointment. The two pictures (one looking up and one with static in her beautiful ear hair) are of my puppy after the first grooming. I told Ashley it was the most beautiful job ever. I showed her one picture and told her what I wanted. My baby pup came out beautiful, tipped her well, and made an appointment for December before Christmas to have my little love groomed again. I was on time for my appointment, Ashley said she had another dog to do and I told her I took off work to come to her. She agreed to groom my puppy. I asked for the same puppy cut, she looked confused, took my puppy. I asked not to put her in a kennel, I could have come back another day if she had asked. I stayed in the store for one hour, heard my puppy barking and knew they put her in a kennel. Ashley brought her down to me in one hour and my puppy was literally frantic, Ashley didn't even hold her to show me her grooming. I had to put my puppy in her bag and leave after I paid for the mess someone did and stupidly a tip. I really didn't see the mess until I got home. My puppy was so frantic. The rest of the pictures are what my beautiful little baby looked like when I got home. Many people asked me what happened and told me to dump this groomer. I was told that the groomer probably gave her to a trainee or someone else to straight scissor cut her ear hair off, cut crooked below her chin, straight scissor cut across the top of her eyes, cut her side of her face with a scissor straight across uneven, and body was totally uneven, muzzle hair was snipped almost all the way off uneven, crown of her head was cut almost to her scalp (this was a lot of hair from her beautiful ears), and unfortunately snipped off all her beautiful hair from the top of her head as you can see from the picture. I went in to the store that Saturday and showed the man at the register. He was shocked and called some woman who showed up. She then asked me if I wanted to pay for another grooming?! I said I want Ashley to fix her face hair, but she couldn't put back all the hair that was haphazardly "chopped" off. I went there on a Wednesday and Ashley said "I must have had a bad day?!!!! I didn't say anything, but showed her what she did and asked her to fix what she could on her face, since she couldn't put all the hair that was chopped off back on. She trimmed what was haphazardly cut on her face, but could not do much else. I waited. I actually was going to give her another chance, stupid me, luckily she canceled the nail cut and eye hair trimming for the next month. This was a blessing. I wouldn't trust her with my puppy ever again. Something went terribly wrong with her. This is shameful or I would never write this review. Just shameful. I was in tears. My puppy still doesn't look like she did, the hair still has not grown back yet. read more

I have loved walking past Doggie Style and saying hello to the dog in the window for the past few months until it dawned on me that these dogs look lonely and neglected. There are two areas where the keep adoptable dogs. Both areas are not able to be seen from inside the store and are used to gain attraction from pedestrians. Workers inside the store seem to be neglecting these dogs. The weather is turning cold and I see no blankets or other visible signs of love and care. No water is left out for these dogs. Yesterday I walked past and saw that one of the dogs, Potsie, had defecated on the floor of his room. Tonight I saw that Penelope had peed in her bed, a sign of trauma and neglect in dogs. Penelope's bed was wet so she moved to a small towel that was laying on the floor. She looked cold and very sad. This shows me that they are not properly given walks, attention and love. I have never seen a worker with them and I walk past them multiple times a day. I am sad to see this from Doggie Style. I love and support pet adoption so much but these practices seem inhumane and cruel. Please pay more attention to these amazing animals. read more

So complete opposite experience of the Doggie Style Store in Fairmount. The attendant AJ was beyond amicable and hospitable. He was so good with my dog Bonnie and took the time to explain certain leashes and harnesses. He even let Bonnie have some treats as well as try on some sweaters. He helped me get another harness on her and showed me some tricks. You can tell he loves what he does and the dogs love him too. Bonnie was all over him. I really appreciated how attentive he was and patient, especially with Bonnie being the ball of energy she is. I will most definitely be back. I ended up purchasing a sweater for her, some stain/odor remover spray, the harness and a really cute neon hot pink leash. Bonnie isn't too crazy about the leash and thinks it more of a toy, but I love it. It is a bit costly I will say for the products but the quality is worth it. What I really appreciated more was the fact that AJ was so helpful and made sure I really knew how to use the harness and allowed Bonnie to try it on and allowed me to walk around the store with it. He even advised as to the kind of food I should give her. If you want excellent customer service come to this store. You won't regret it:) read more

I do not want "free grooming" I wanted the actual grooming I paid for which was not the service received. May I add I was offered a free groom, which I did decline. One visit to this establishment was enough! In addition the owner called me at home several times on a Sunday offering no solutions, rather to argue about whether or not my dog smelled and came home still dirty. Now a yelp " argument" calling out an unhappy client for your poor performance. Again , amazing customer service and business practice. I bought a piece of shit toy for $15. It was a Rocky Balboa squeeze toy. The threads are coming out and my new pup swallowed some of them - they were in his poop and hanging out of his little asshole. What if the threads got caught in his intestines?? First time I went it was great (which is why I'm giving more stars than I should). Second time, not so much. Mostly everyone is nice but the prices for baths are insane. My dog also came back slightly wet and smelled like wet dog by the time I got home to fully inspect. I have a husky and she regularly gets baths at another place, but they have flooding damages right now. It usually takes my dog 45 minutes to get a bath. I waited over 3 hours for her to get her bath. I asked if it's because there's other dogs but no one could clearly communicate with me. I called beforehand and they said she had 45 min left, I showed up then and they said she has another 30min. Very confused when they said it was because my dog wouldn't cooperate. My dog gets a bath every other week, she's the most friendliest dog, and doesn't mind the big dryers since she's be around them for over 4 years at different places. Maybe she got bad vibes from the groomer? Not sure. Ended up spending over $100 for this experience. I did get the deshedding shampoo, nails trimmed, and teeth brush, but I've NEVER paid over $100 for that anywhere else in Philly. They also had a puppy up for adoption in the window displace, but the window display is at this weird angle, so the puppy had like no room to play or move :/ very sad. read more

By all means, please avoid going to the Doggie Style Pets on Spruce St. Let's start with the fact that they put my dog in a kennel without asking how he does in kennels. I came back about an hour after leaving my dog and the front desk staff seemed visibly irked that I had come back earlier than expected, despite this being my right as a customer. What was worse--I came back to hearing my dog barking incessantly and in a very agitated manner. They told me that he was "being difficult" and they were waiting for him to calm down. How do they expect my dog to calm down when his barking and whining (for over 30 mins) indicated he was clearly agitated? I asked them to let me in to go see him and they said no. So then I asked them to bring him back out and it took them another 30+ minutes to do so. The groomer, Lolly, was extremely rude in handing him over and at some point stopped addressing me entirely and spoke only to the front desk staff, giving me no chance to express that I was upset that they had not called me. I told them my dog had been to vets, other groomers, daycares, and stayed with neighbors with no issues, but they insisted that the problem was that he did not like being without me. I think the problem was that they do not tend well to the dogs that they have in for appointments. They told me I needed a different type of service if I didn't want my dog to be put in a kennel because "all groomers do it." This is not the case at all. I have been to multiple groomers that do not put my dog in a kennel. I recently moved to Philadelphia so I had to find a new one. So no, I do not want any additional services from this place. I only want to warn people not to go here if they care about keeping their dogs happy and relaxed, especially since grooming is already a stressful situation for most dogs. Last but not least, they ended up charging me only for a bath. Truthfully, he doesn't even smell bathed. He just smells like he does when he gets wet. Kind of feel like they stole my money even for just that. After going through some more reviews, I see many people have left similar comments, especially in regard to unhappy dogs, rude staff, and not being allowed to see their dogs. This is not a one-time issue but a chronic one that the business owner clearly refuses to deal with appropriately. Honestly, just don't waste your money or your time and patience here. They trimmed my bunny's nails! The staff was friendly and accommodated my rabbit when other area groomers would only do dogs. They let me stop in with no appointment and took care of Woodstock right away. It was a new staff members first day and I got to observe an old timer showing her patiently and clearly how the computer system works. The ones there now are not qualified to work with elderly or special needs pets. Very rude about it. He smelled really good though so the bath was great. I don't think I will be bring him back for cuts because he didn't look happy at all. We have been loyal customers of Doggie Style after we adopted our Stevie through their HeadHouse Square branch over 3 years ago (spending well over a thousand dollars on pet products and services since then). We were excited to bring our Stevie in for his monthly grooming appointment today! This afternoon (1:00PM, about 2 hours before our 3:00PM appointment), we received a call from the groomer (GABBY) informing us that Stevie's outdated rabies vaccination (as of 3/2015) precluded ANY grooming per store policy. We had scheduled today's appointment 2 weeks ago, since it was my only day off this week and I'm on a resident physician's schedule. Of note, we've been getting Stevie groomed at the 1635 Spruce St branch on a monthly basis since 2/2017, and for the two years before that at the 604 South 2nd St branch. We were perplexed and appalled because multiple groomers and retail associates at both locations have allowed Stevie to be groomed regularly in the past two years, despite being ostensibly "overdue" for his vaccination. Somehow, we encountered a groomer who randomly decided to enforce this policy today, despite herself having groomed him before (Gabby has been unprofessional with us in the past, and we've had some doubts about sending our Stevie back to her, but she's never outright refused him as a client until now). I called the store and spoke with a different associate around 1:30PM, who promised that the assistant store manager would call me back within 30 minutes. Over an hour goes by without a word, so I called the store again and finally got through to the assistant store manager, who informed us that the policy is often relaxed and enforced at the discretion of the groomer (so much for consistency). He checked with GABBY again, who refused once more, and he apologized profusely, inviting us to reschedule for a later date (with a discount) once we'd obtained vaccination records (despite being adopted through them!). We had planned my entire day off around this grooming appointment, and spent an additional 1.5 hours on the phone dealing with the groomer, different retail associates, and the assistant store manager. We thought that a concession would've been made since the store had clearly NOT been enforcing said policy the last dozen times we'd brought Stevie there, plus it was their own employees' fault for not warning us ahead of time and erroneously confirming the appointment yesterday. We were sorely disappointed, and will certainly think twice before returning there with our Stevie. Bottom line, if you do ever go back to Doggy Style, we would not recommend grooming with GABBY! read more

Front desk people are really mean. I have encountered the white tall guy in his late 20s to early 30 and a brunette or blonde white girl at weekends.They treat customers with unfriendly attitudes and bluntly refused me to see my dog when I was told over the phone that I could while he was having his haircut. The staff who work with the dogs are nice in person. But make sure you stick with the staff you have worked with...especially if you dog is going to have a nail cut!!!!!! read more

Do not go here! The front desk are incredibly rude. We have been loyal customers for 6 years and never have had a pleasant experience. Each time our prices for the same service varied, and upon asking why, the front desk informed it's not upto them but the groomer. To give an example, a $50 bath became $105, a $75 grooming became $120 on various occasions. That doesn't include tip and tax! When picking up our dog yesterday, they did the same thing, told us it'll be $75-90, but charged us $120 when checking out! Another client who was also there picking up their dog from being groomed had the same issue, and waited 40 mins to speak to the groomer; who for forty mins didn't come down stating there's another dog she's attending to. Those clients were adamant to speak to her, and bless their heart that they waited 40 minutes to do so. When she came down she informed it's dematting fee, which the clients were baffled and confused with. We had same random fee added to our bill too. None of these dogs were matted. They may claim ours was matted, but the other dog didn't even have long hair, it was a short haired chihuahua! Multiple times they've canceled our appointments stating rabies wasn't updated, even though it was and we took vets paperwork to prove it. By then they had already cancelled appointment, so we had to reschedule. We had to take day off from work for this! The front desk attendant Nhi has severe attitude problem, she is impolite, rude and unprofessional. Our dog came back with his ears knicked, to which they said just to put ointment and it'll heal! Why would you cut his ears!! This has happened on many occasions. We will not go back there again. These people are crooks! Do yourself a favor and read all the other reviews from various people and don't go here! Go anywhere else but this location! It is a shame that they are this unprofessional. read more

This store is much bigger but it seemed like it was mostly apparel, accessories and toys. If that's what you're looking for come here. I liked the selection of treats at Rittenhouse Square Pet Supply and they looked like they had a better selection of food. Their stuff is pricey, so I avoid it whenever possible. The other day, however, everything changed. Remember that sinking feeling you'd get after your mom would drop you off at school and as you're trying to inconspicuously sneak away, she yells from across the parking lot, holding your brown lunch bag out the passenger-side window? They set us up with everything we needed, food, toys, etc. We live down the street from the Rittenhouse location, which is so convenient for anything our pup needs. We saw a sweater we liked and they didn't have it in our pups size so the Rittenhouse location called and it was in their store within a few days. Everyone is very knowledgeable, which was great since we are first time owners. Also, we got a picture with our pup when we left and the manager at the Old City location gave us her card if we had any questions or concerns. This store has a huuuuuuge selection of stuff. My dog has some skin issues and the lady there was really helpful and honest in her recommendations. A fellow customer was making all sorts of suggestions and talking our ears off, which is always nice, but when he left, she just said "ok listen..." and gave us the truth. Thanks, lady. Frankenstein (the dog) is really small but quite a hellion when it comes to her chew toys. The woman steered us towards some stuffed toys that have proven pretty much indestructible. My dog LOVES coming here. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable about the products, offer up helpful advice and genuinely care about the animals. It's almost impossible for me to walk by there with my dog and not go in due to him pulling towards the door...and I'm sure I speak on behalf of other dogs owners as well!
