We own a 1974 manufactured home in Palm Desert with 12 windows, a sliding glass door, and front and back doors. Everything is original equipment, and we recently decided to upgrade the original single pane, aluminum framed windows and slider. My wife had actually wanted to do it for several years, but I resisted. She was right.
We interviewed 5 candidates and eventually chose Fairway Glass & Mirror. It's a local company owned by two brothers, Julio and Oscar Ramirez. Oscar came out for the initial visit and carefully measured each window and the slider and spent a good deal of time going over what the glass options were and what would work for us. We asked for low-e double pane glass and vinyl frames that would overlay the existing window opening, rather than fit inside the opening. He said it would take two weeks to present a proposal and delivered it on schedule. One of the big firms gave us an immediate bid, dictating what glass they'd install and without taking a single measurement. We worked with Julio on Fairway's bid, and it ended up being the best, including services none of the other bidders would do. Specifically, they agreed to remove the original awnings, which hung over several windows and needed to be removed, and haul them away. They also agreed to haul away the original shutters, which would have to be removed to accommodate the new vinyl frames.
Julio constantly kept us informed of window delivery timing and installation scheduling. Installation took about 4 days. They only did as many windows as they could complete in one day, and, as a result, we were able to stay in the home for the entire project. There was one hiccup with the new sliding door being the wrong size for the opening, but that couldn't be determined until after the old slider was removed. It took a few days to get a new slider, and they securely covered the opening with bolted plywood sheets until the new slider could be installed. Again, Julio was great at keeping us informed of progress throughout the project.
We could not be happier with our new windows and sliding door. Fairway cleaned up the project area every day, and they hauled away everything they removed, all for the proposal price. They've also been very responsive to post-installation adjustments, like caulking and window trim. It's a real pleasure going over to that home now, and it feels downright homey. We would unhesitatingly recommend Fairway Glass to anyone with a project similar to ours. read more
