I also make my own smoothies at home and I pretty much order the same type of smoothie I make at home...if it ain't broke, don't fix it, amirite? I've noticed a few times coming here, there are different people working and the past two visits have left much to be desired. I just ordered the Breakfast Smoothie, which is the only smoothie I order from here. I sometimes add protein but ALWAYS add chia seeds and cayenne. For some reason on this visit, I received a weirdly loose smoothie. I added cayenne, chia and vanilla protein. The person that took the order was not the one that made my smoothie. It was extremely sweet and watery which doesn't make sense if I'm adding protein powder. I asked if they add sweeteners and was informed that they add agave. This is not listed on their menu boards and if they do add sweeteners, they should inform the public so we can opt out if necessary. As I said, the smoothie is extremely watery and when adding chia seeds, it thickens the smoothie, especially when blending it. I asked the girl who made the smoothie, if she added the chia and she then asked the guy who took the order. He said they did but you can tell that they didn't or they didn't use much. Chia seeds leave black specks in smoothies, even when using a Vitamix. I'm not sure what's happened to the quality control but I'll probably wait a bit before coming back. The time before this, a completely different person was behind the counter and she added the protein powder but didn't make up for it with any additional almond milk so I ended up with a ridiculously thick smoothie. That is, until I was in downtown White Plains and noticed that a new PB location was opening soon. This piqued my interest to find out more about the company, and I came to learn that they specialized in açaí bowls. I was working in Westchester the other day and noticed that there was a PB in here in Tarrytown, so I decided to head over and check them out for lunch. This PB is located on Main St in the heart of Tarrytown's commercial hub. Walking in, you're immediately greeted by the menu and ordering counter/production. The aesthetics were bright, with mostly light blues and grey wood tones throughout the space. The large windows in the front let a lot of light in, and there are stools that line the perimeter. While açaí and pitaya bowls are the star of the menu, PB also serves smoothies, juices, and coffee. Additionally, they carry snacks made by various companies. I was here for an açaí bowl; they have a large selection with all of them containing the açaí base along with banana and other components. The tropical bowl looked good - in addition to the açaí and banana, it contained granola, pineapple, coconut flakes, and honey. I really enjoyed it - it was a generous portion without being too big, the fruit was fresh, and it played against the cold açaí and crunchy granola. Service was fast and friendly; I decided to take my order to go and they provided a lid and bag for easy transport. Overall, I was impressed with my first Playa Bowls experience - they have a large variety, and the ability to have multiple flavor combinations keeps every visit fresh. I'm looking forward to them opening in White Plains and exploring more of their menu.
