I have used this service twice in 10 years when I had to use the emergency vet for cats who were dying. I always have a private cremation so I can get the ashes back. When my ex husband and I divorced, we had to divide the 10 cats ashes. The first time, the ashes came back in a white plastic box. This time, a beautiful cherry wood box. Each time, they brought the ashes to me even when I lived in Monroe, MI. Normally, I had to go back to the vet to pick up the metal tin. They brought me Boo's ashes less than 24 hrs. after I had her put to sleep. The gentleman was very respectful and caring. Since Boo was the 11th cat I have lost in the last 16 years, I didn't cry like some must do. They are more expressive than what I paid at my regular vet office but sometimes I had to wait days for the ashes and I had to pick up the ashes. There is an option for you to bring your animal to them and pick up the ashes there. With them located in one of the metro Detroit ring suburbs, they are a quick drive if needed. Summary: We have had a number of pets privately cremated, and again needed this service. Our "go-to" provider--for five other pets--was sold and has become too expensive, too inconvenient, too uninformed. We called around and found Faithful Companion in Royal Oak, who provided an AMAZING, compassionate, personal experience which was built around serving the deceased pet and his/her family/mourners. It was an incredible experience in a very difficult time, and was affordable, accessible (schedule-wise) and run by experienced, professional, personable people. Please consider them. Details: We recently lost a dog, and, as we have have done for our four other dogs and another pet which my wife had owned, we sought to have him cremated individually. We had previously used Partridge Enterprises (near Clarklake, in Jackson Co.), but I found that they'd been sold, and the person answering the phone could not even give a price list, and finally gave us an estimate ~$200 more than we paid for better, more personal, more available service at Faithful Companion in Royal Oak. When calling various pet crematoria in SE/S Central Michigan, the woman answering at Faithful Companion was real, knowledgeable, and on top of things. Instead of a wait of nearly two weeks (13 days!) through "Trusted Journey" [successor to Partridge Enterprises], we were able to get our deceased pet cremated the following day, saving us lots of dry ice runs to keep him in good condition. Arriving at Faithful Companion, we wondered whether we were in the right place, as it is on an industrial side street, and the building is...bland industrial. But don't be put off by that! Inside, there are caring people, comfortable spaces, and an amazing attention to you & your animal, to make sure that you have whatever level of very personal witnessing of the process which you desire. After filling out some paperwork and paying for our selected service (a "witness individual cremation", their standard service), we were told which door to drive into, and found ourselves in a good-sized area in which we could remove our pet, deal with the remaining dry ice, arrange some items with him, and then go into...our room. At Partridge, "the room" was like a one-car garage with a crematory furnace as the sole item in the space. You'd put your pet in a relatively cool oven and vacate the area, never to re-enter it during that cycle. At Faithful Companion, "the room" was...amazing. It had a mural on the right-hand wall, with various types of pets represented. On the left were places to comfortably sit, along with a place to make coffee, etc. The furnace was straight ahead, but incorporated into the space, not dominating it with an ominous presence. We had time to say good-bye to our boy, including my Mother, who'd ridden with us. It was a part of what was provided, not a $110-add-on, as I was quoted at Trusted Journey. The staff left us alone (closed the doors) and didn't hover, which gave us welcome privacy in that very hard moment. When they came back in, the guy running the cremation process asked if I wanted to assist with loading my boy, as I was used to this, and if I had gloves. Why? They run their ovens at a higher starting temperature (600° F), and it's dangerous. However, there is a roller on the outside, at the bottom of the opening, and the door can be opened vertically at any convenient height, so--after donning my gloves--it was simple, quick, and safe. We saw the controls start the cycle, & were told that the room was ours, & we could stay & witness the entire process, or leave & come back, etc. I was amazed & appreciative, but we had talked about getting some breakfast during the cycle, so we went to a diner. (It was also rather warm in the room, for an obvious reason.) When we came back, the cremation cycle was over, & the cooling was nearly done to the point where the cremains would be removed. We re-entered the room, the guy running the furnace opened the door & then used two very long-handled tools which had been to the right of the furnace door the entire time. First, he used a scraper to do a "gross removal" of the cremains; as they explained, their cremains have bone fragments--I saw a vertebra--so the blunt scraper got that & a lot of the bulk of the ashes. Second, he used a broom to do a fine clean, sweeping out the interior a few times. In both cases, the cremains fell into a vertical slot across the lower edge, in front of the burner box, which must have sloped sides to guide the cremains to a metal drawer which collects them. This drawer was withdrawn, we were shown its contents, & the cremains went into another area where they were put into a bag inside a wooden box (their standard "urn"), which was presented to us after several minutes (in a bag to carry it & the paperwork, etc.). The staff were accomodating & caring at every step. Consider using Faithful Companion for your own beloved, departed pet. read more

I have been caring for a few feral cats in my neighborhood and I sadly found one that had passed. I named her Caroline. I didn't want to just bury her in my yard. My local emergency vet recommended faithful companion and I'm so glad I called. The staff was was respectful and courteous every step of the process which helped my grieving process. The animal also is assigned an aid Tag so that you can be sure you are receiving your actual animal. I brought my rabbit to them (they can also come pick up the animal from your home), and they delivered his remains to my house in less than 24 hours. The price was $120 for the base package of a small exotic animal which I feel was more than fair considering the delivery to my home. They also offer upgradable options in terms of urns. I wanted to witness the cremation. They have private rooms with sofas and little fridge full of water in each room that has the oven in it privately. They took paw impressions and made me them.
