A lot of people complain about the ferry itself... I have no gripes with the actual ferry as it is dirt cheap and no frills. The parking lot, however, is one of the worst experiences in Puerto Rico, and it alone makes me never want to take the ferry again. It took, no exaggeration, an hour to pay to leave the parking lot as you get eaten alive by insects (you have to stand on line to pay, and then get in your car and wait in a line of cars to leave). There is one single machine that the 300+ passengers of the ferry have to all line up to use. The parking only cost $5 for the day, but I would have gladly paid $50 for the privilege of skipping the line. Then after you finally get to pay, you wait another 15 minutes in a line of cars to leave the lot. In summary: Worst. Parking Lot. Ever. Avoid it at all costs. Fajardo Ferry Parking Lot - The never ending line - Parking Near Me - Fajardo, Puerto Rico

After reading all the reviews, I was nervous but now that I have firsthand experience, I know there was nothing to be nervous about. Here is what I know. When you get the ticket at the gate to park - take it with you, DON'T leave it in the car. When you return, insert your ticket into the machine - it's like an ATM and pay for it. You'll pass the machine on your way back to your car. The machine will give you a receipt. Once you have the receipt you have 30 minutes to leave, which is more than plenty enough time but don't dawdle around. Pull up to the gate and give your paid receipt to the guy and he will let you out. If you don't take the receipt with you - you will have to return to the car, get the ticket, come back to the machine and pay for it and get the receipt, go back to your car, and give the receipt to the guy at the gate so you can leave. Many low reviews are from people who assume that it is like it is here in America and give the guy at the gate the ticket - NOT the receipt showing that it has been paid. Then they get upset because they didn't do their homework before traveling. You cannot take your rental car on the ferry. Don't try it, you wouldn't want to anyway. Driving on the main island is bad enough - the roads on the islands are basically a golf cart path and a half wide - not kidding. The highway on the main island is more like what we are used to in the states - except for the condition of the roads - but that's another review. Get there early - ask for help if you need it - everyone was really nice and speak great English. Have a great time! read more

First off, if you're taking a ferry to or from Culebra, you're going to get screwed with the crazy crowds of local teens. If you're going to Vieques, you'll have better luck (and probably a better time anyway). The ticket counter doesn't open until an hour before departure, but you want to allow time to park in the lot itself and walk over to the ticket booth. The horrible lines everyone's talking about? Here's the "trick" -- when the ferry is pulling into the dock, GET READY TO GET OFF IMMEDIATELY. Once those doors open, make a beeline to the ticket machine in the parking lot as fast as you can. No stopping for a pee break (there are restrooms on the ferry anyway), no photos, no stopping for a snack, GET TO THE TICKET MACHINE ASAP! We were the first ones there, we paid in 20 seconds, and got over to the car and drove out of the parking lot like a bat out of hell before anyone else even got to the machine. Take THAT "I-had-to-wait-45-minutes-to-pay-for-my-parking" complainers! We left our luggage in the trunk and only brought the bare essentials with us on the ferry, and very glad we did! Our rental car wasn't messed with at all and we'd totally do this again. read more

DON'T PARK HERE! Park at the open lot right BESIDE it. So go straight pass this, make a right, and within 50 feet or so, make a right into an open lot. The convenient thing about this lot is that you pay BEORE you leave, so you won't wait in line like the people parking in this lot. Pay the guy at the table (there's always a guy sitting there). $5 a day. He'll give you a receipt/yellow paper, just keep it in your car. That way, when you return, you could just head to your car and carry on the rest of your day. read more

I have been to Vieques once and to Culebra several times. I have always parked here. I have never had any issues with my car getting broken into. The only issue that I find here is that it does get a congested - long line to pay and long line to exit. I do also think that they need a few people available to assist with traffic, ticket issues, etc. on days that are really busy (i.e weekends). I also like how close it is to the ferry terminal. Tip: Take your ticket with you. Do not leave it in your car. You have to pay before you exit. The line to pay gets long fast. read more

We drove from San Juan to Fajardo (40 min), parked in the lot (will post photos we took for reference) for $5/day, and headed over to the dock where there is a little cafe for some breakfast before our 9:30AM ferry to Vieques. After breakfast, about an hour before departure, we purchased out tickets $4/adult (roundtrip). We recommend buying a round trip ticket to avoid any rush in trying to purchase tickets on the way back. They do accept credit cards. We got on the ferry, and headed inside rather than staying outdoors. There's A/C! When arriving in Vieques, there were plenty of transportation options to take us to Esperanza, where we stayed. $3/pp communal van/taxi. read more

We went on a Thursday, we woke up late and our hotel was about an hour away. We thought it was going to be a waste of time since all of the bad reviews and we were also running late. We got there around 7:15 am and we were able to get a parking spot. My wife even had time to drop me off to buy ferry tickets and go to Walmart, come back and find a parking spot. read more

Worst ferry service. Ever. Arrived at 4 am for my ferry to Vieques and waited in line for tickets, but it took 45 minutes because of their "locals first" policy, which makes sense in theory, but was a disaster in practice because everyone just kept cutting in front of everyone else. Complete disorganization and anarchy. When I finally got to my boat they told me that my cargo boat would no longer be accepting passengers. Also, no one speaks English which makes a lot of sense since Puerto Rico is a territory of the US. The best part is the 30 or so Puerto Rican guys that walk around and work for the ferry, but basically don't do anything. Puerto Rico fail. P.S.- I'm writing this review as I'm still waiting for the second Ferry in a random parking lot. Please pardon my naturally annoyed and vindictive demeanor. read more

This place is a joke. I've never been to a bigger tourist trap. You have to get their super early in the morning to get a ticket. Got their early and paid for parking. I stood in line and they said there are tickets left up to a certain point in line. I was within the section of line they said they will have tickets for, so I stayed. Once I got to the front they said there are no more tickets. So I left and the parking lot (that they own!) charged me for a full day. They said only if you leave when they tell you there are no tickets left, then we don't charge you for parking. I told them what happened and I only stayed because they said there would be tickets. I left now after the front window told me otherwise. There was no point in arguing. Wasted money and day driving back and forth. read more

The hardest part is when you return from the ferry to battle long lines just to pay your 5 dollars for parking your car. Not sure why they elect to have security officer take your money and ticket, but paying for parking your car (and waiting so long to do so) warrants improvements to better serve the customers. read more

I would give them zero star, this is the most terrible experience about traveling that I could describe. Please don't take this Ferry this is the most incompetent way to travel to the Island . Don't take this Ferry I am telling you, if you are a tourist you want to be relaxed, save your time, so this is the worst idea to go to Culebra or Vieques Island. Pay whatever you have to paid , and it will be worth it because the other way even though you do the line early and get the tickets you have to wait until the time they want to departure literally when ever they want, they said 9 am but that never happen. The parking here is very tight and limited if you don't want to park on the street get there early. There is also 1 machine to pay for parking so you will want to pay as soon as you park so you are not waiting in a 45min line to pay at the end like everyone else. They do have 1 or 2 attendants who try to help, but are very slow. Also, beware of the 1 way street coming out of the lot. read more

We got a close space at 6:30. The thing that makes this a hassle is not being able to prepay the ticket. So there is a huge line to pay. Make sure you take ticket with you so you don't have to go back to the car to get it. read more

Thanks for the parking but for christs sake put the pay window at the toll station where you drive out. Not that hard to put someone in there. Dumbest way of paying to exit with your car. Walk up to another window away from the gate and then go back to your car and drive out. Dumb. read more

Trip on 3/19/18. I showed up early for no reason. Well, I came early for the reviews I've read both on here and trip advisor and got there at 5am. Nobody there in line. Went to the nearby burger king at 6am to grab breakfast and came back. Once I got back, there were about 10 people in line. Ticket office opened at 7am. But here's the kicker, we got our tickets and had to wait at the boarding area till Cluebra Ferry announced boarding. We waited till roughly 9am to board in which during the time we waited people were buying tickets without any problem at least from what I could observe. I was with 3 others physically in my party at time of ticket purchase and bought tickets for 5 others (our ladies) while they slept a little more and met us in time for boarding. 4 stars because it was not that bad of an experience considering what you pay but the boarding we were told was supposed to begin at 830 am but was about half hour late. Actually late boarding worked out because our dear women got there at 8:50am to our dismay. Return trip was at 5 although we were told there was an 8pm that was the last one but we didn't want to risk cancellation or anything and get stuck overnight. I'm writing this as I ride the 5pm return ferry and it is not bad but don't expect a 5 star experience is all I could say. It's just transportation nothing more nothing less. read more

I took the recommendation of the reviewer below and ran to the ferry to pay the $5.35 (including taxes, in cash, and yes the machine cane take bills as big as $20 and will give you change), and was the first to pay and first to leave the parking lot on the two separate days when I took the ferry. Not sure what the problem is because I never experienced any of the painful queues! read more

Where do I even start to tell about a nightmare which should be a fun and wonderful experience. It took 6 hrs to get to an island 45 min away and then only 2 rushed hours to see it . They say get there 2 hrs ahead yep you have to and that doesn't even guarantee a ticket ! Then they say buy ahead of time . The place is an hour away from some resorts . You can't buy a ticket on line . The schedule was for 9. Got there 7am. Then the ferry shedule was pushed to 10.30. Guess what the one boat running didn't come back till 11.am. The workers there are NASTY . They coral you into a fenced in area like cattle and make you sit up to 3 hrs give or take in rows with vending machines and porter potty under a tarp . One man had his filled and expressed his upset and why . They told him if he keeps it up he would not be allowed to board . He was there since 6 am . It was so uncomfortable I felt like I was in prison. I suggest if you do take this adventure get there at 3 am to take the 6am ferry . Or book an overnight stay. The ferry ride is very very rough they hand out barf bags and people on my ferry used them . I hope they fix this whole crazy show this ferry company has because the island beach is beautiful and they make it really ugly experience. read more
