This location is not only affordable, but such a great spot that allows you to customize your wedding to your liking. The beautiful garden and excellent up-keep of the clubhouse really elevated our budget wedding. Not to mention the views are incredible! We had our wedding early July, and the weather was phenomenal - the skies were clear and there was just enough breeze to cool down from the sun. And of course, shoutout to Chris who was so awesome to work with. He was so responsive and incredibly professional. You can tell his passion for The Thursday Club immediately by the way he conducts himself and pours his love into maintaining the club. They had their ceremony outdoors with an outstanding view of the ocean. The nuptials were short and sweet with guests being invited to return upstairs for cocktails and hors d'overs. Again cocktails were flowing and we tasted a few appetizers. We were called by table to get our meals. There was a choice of Asian or Italian. The Asian consisted of salad, pork pot stickers, veggie lo mein, & chicken satay. On the Italian table were pizzas, Caesar salad, arancini, yellow squash ravioli. A fine tasting of meals. But I can attest that they are also great in a crisis. We had our wedding last weekend in the Rancho Santa Fe area, during the height of the northern San Diego wildfires. It was not clear if we could even have a wedding up until the night before the event, because of evacuation notices & roads being closed that lead to our original venue. Taryn was an absolute champion during this very stressful time. She found us a new venue the night before the wedding, re-routed all the vendors without any trouble, and was super communicative the whole time. Not to mention the new venue was gorgeous (La Bella Vida estate) and all our guests said they would have never guessed that this wasn't the plan all along. Taryn basically saved our wedding - work with her if you get the chance!

The ceremony was held under some tall trees which was perfect since it was a bit warm, even though it was 5pm already. The dinner was a buffet of salad, potatoes, short ribs and chicken parmesan. I wish I had taken two servings of short ribs and skipped the chicken parm. The short ribs were juicy, so tender and just falling apart with my fork. Excellent, especially for a buffet meal at a wedding. The place is really cool and if you are considering having an event in the future, check the Castle out. HAVE FUN!!

The…read morelocation was also perfect - we got Mediterranean charm centrally located in San Diego for all our guests. And who would say no to using their wedding to support a non-profit? I think it's great. But working with Carly was stiff. Communication broke down at times with her over email when collecting insurance for vendors and trying to schedule our rehearsal walk through with our coordinator. When we toured they mentioned that we could have someone play the piano with prior permission. We got said permission from Carly only to find out that said person needs to have day of insurance. The person we had in mind to play was our friend who is a musician but we didn't want to make them or us pay $120 just so he can play piano for 30 minutes. So that was annoying as we wished the insurance part was mentioned prior because it sounded like someone could casually play if we just notified her first. So we scrapped that. Given the historic status of the house I understand the rules but at times the way they were enforced or communicated felt unnecessary or cold given the event. They also don't recommend getting ready in the house because the outlets aren't reliable so FYI for your timeline there. Parking is also an issue so valet is required but that's just a La Jolla classic. In the contract it's stated that music is "monitored throughout the night" and if it exceeds certain decibels they'll shut it down... I found that interesting... and honestly stressful as a bride who spent thousands to rent this space and is happy to be respectful to rules but again the manner they're provided and enforced... If I had to do it over again would I have my wedding here? Not sure. Made for beautiful photos but I think the "fun" aspect of the day would've been easier enjoyed somewhere else because the entire time these rules are hovering over you...

Darlington House is a truly beautiful wedding venue, and overall, we had a good experience hosting…read moreour April wedding there. The grounds were spotless, the landscaping and different spaces were so pretty that we needed very little additional decor, and our guests had a great time. We were also able to schedule unlimited walkthroughs leading up to the wedding, which was really helpful, and there were no issues with setup, teardown, or getting our security deposit back. Communication with Carly, the venue coordinator, was always quick and professional through the venue's portal. She sent reminders about vendor COIs and other important information, which helped keep us on track leading up to the wedding. My biggest advice to other couples would be to read the contract in full and make sure you are comfortable with the venue's rules before booking. Given that it is a historic site, the rules are extremely specific and there is very little flexibility, so you have to be willing to get creative within their guidelines. In our experience, if we asked for an exception to a rule, the answer was no. The biggest challenge for us was the lack of a built-in rain plan at the venue level. There was no flexibility to use indoor spaces in case of inclement weather, so we had to spend a pretty significant amount on a tent to ensure the day would go smoothly. That said, Carly was helpful in guiding us toward vendors and coordinating with another couple so we could split the tent cost, which we really appreciated. Overall, Darlington House is a gorgeous venue, and the actual wedding day went smoothly; we loved it. The BEST wedding venue we could have ever asked for!…read more We had our wedding April 2024 and was nervous for the weather with the indoor/outdoor venue, but it ended up being perfect. The sun came out just in time for the 4pm cocktail hour and we were able to enjoy being on the grass without it being wet. Our guests kept talking about how amazing the view was - which is exactly why we chose it! This is perfect for if you want a beach wedding, but not directly on the sand. We wanted our guests to be outside for as much as possible to enjoy the La Jolla view, so we had cocktail hour and our buffet table outside. With the help of Personal Touch Dining, we also had bar tables set up outside for guests to still enjoy being outside during the party. Andrew and the rest of the Scripps Seaside Forum team was very easy to work with - always being available over email or text for any random questions I had.

We had a small window where we were able to put together a wedding. We wanted a small, intimate…read moregathering, something that was hassle free, and on a budget. Letizia had our backs through the whole process. Any colors, specific flowers, foods, decor, if I had a request, she made it happen. She also knew key questions to ask. I loved that we went through the entire ceremony and reception so there were no surprises. We live very far from the Rose Creek Cottage, so it was such a relief that she took care of all the logistics. Literally, the day before, we came in to approve the venue. It is cozy and rustic, antique as if lost in time, it felt magical. We didn't have lift a finger--setup, ushering, food service, cleanup--everything was take care of and we just got to enjoy our special day. The day of, the only thing we had to do was show up with our suits and gowns. Makeup, hair, photography, officiant, DJ, decor, everything was all there for us. And the food!! We thought tacos and s'mores sounded fun, but what we got was gourmet. We forgot to mention that we were going to do a toast, but they scrambled to make it happen. Anything I wanted was an ask away. I hope to make a visit down there on our first anniversary, it would be wonderful to relive such a happy day.

Small and cute venue for a wedding ceremony…read more Attended my friend's wedding here and it was a touching and intimate experience. Definitely meant for a smaller wedding, but it accommodated the group of people that attended. Parking can be limited since there's only a small lot to the side, and the road nearby is SUPER busy and missing turns is very likely, so keep this in mind for future planning. Lots of cute opportunities at the front and the side for photos, as well as inside the venue and in the courtyard area as well. Restrooms are in the chapel and there's a powder room too. Chapel has a couple of pew seats and they can pull some chairs for you. Courtyard outside has a small space for around 6-7 round tables and a gazebo for the couple to sit under with a large LOVE light sign behind them. I guess there was never any assigned seating arranged prior which led to some awkward standing and our party being split, but I guess that just wasn't factored into the planning and they did their best to accommodate after the fact. DJ was up in front near the bride and groom, off to the side was the catered food and DJ would call us up in tables to grab dinner and eventually dessert. Staff were on point with clearing up the tables and passing out the champagne to toast. It got chilly as the sun began to set, but they wheeled out those warmers, so that was pretty nice. I think my only other qualm was that the arrangement of the courtyard was a bit awkward, since DJ next to couple meant it was harder to speak to them since the music was blasting next to them and by virtue the dancefloor was near the DJ, making it in front, and a whole all eyes on you situation. Just small things. Overall, it was a lovely venue to celebrate such a wonderful moment in my friends' lives.
