I had the privilege of attending two weddings at Lavender & Olive this year; both Petite Productions: essentially economical mini weddings for 10 or fewer people that include DJ, bridal/groom suite, photographers, champagne, first dance, reception and more, all in a storybook setting. When I say storybook setting, I don't mince words. I used to work for a wedding chair cover company, spending considerable time at venues across San Diego County, and I can't say I happened upon anything this dreamy. The setup was exquisite, the people so friendly and clearly personally invested in the couples. The owners have been married for over 40 years and it's clear they extend their love to the couples they host. Music was spot-on, guests were happy. The owners were prepared with sweet umbrellas for all guests, so they rain ended up contributing to an ethereal, whimsical backdrop for a beautiful day. One thing I love, in particular, about this venue is that all couples of all orientations are embraced fully and wholeheartedly. Let me start by saying that the venue is beautiful and well kept. It appears to have all the elements to host an outdoor event of any kind. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because of the owner/host. To begin, the venue was booked for the rehearsal the night prior to the event for two hours (3-5). At 4:30 one of the children took out the cornhole to which the owner quickly snapped was not ok due to another party coming at 5. She then proceeded to say that she was hot, overwhelmed and snappy but not by intention. Getting to the day of the event..... the owner was walking around during the first few hours and I personally heard her making comments like "this party seems to not care about timelines" because the party was running late. The venue was reserved until 11 but the owner was sitting on the outskirts of the event at 10 with a trash bag ready to clean up! As a business, write it into your contract that there are strict timelines and any non adherence is a fee but do not stand there trying to push clean up to satisfy your timeline.... Especially at a wedding that was hosted for out of town travelers. Events that need venues like this are fluid events, memories in the making and timelines may get blurred. As an owner, you deserve to be compensated fairly BUT do not stand around an hour before the time ends with a trash bag. It is tacky. The owner was either unwelcoming and lacked emotional intelligence in social settings or racist.... None of which I wish to explore further on with this venue. Rent at your own risk. Plan ahead and get your contract written with fluid movements as memories made in settings like this tend to last a lifetime. read more

My friend had her wedding here in October, and it was such an awful experience. I understand that in Southern California, rain is very rare, but it does happen once every few months and my friend was extremely unfortunate that one of those rare occasions happened on her wedding day. I feel like if you are a wedding venue, you need to have a rainout plan -- even if it's just a few tarps or tents, you need to have some sort of plan. When we showed up, there were no tents or tarps, and all of the guests had to stand huddled and cold under a few square feet of space. The rain continued throughout the night, and the bride's family ended up having to run out on the wedding day to buy tents to set up for the event. The DJ's equipment was even getting ruined because the venue was not equipped enough to handle the rain. As someone who just planned her wedding in the past year, when you spend so much time, money and effort into coordinating this special event, I can only imagine how incredibly heartbreaking it must have been for all your guests to show up only to be huddled under the few square feet of covered space, and then to have the wedding postponed several hours. The venue still ended the wedding at the same time, so the bride and groom ended up losing thousands of dollars. I am so sad that their special day that they had been looking forward to for so long was ruined because the venue dropped the ball and was not prepared. If you are thinking about this place for your wedding, I would recommend looking somewhere else for your special day. It is not worth the time, energy or money. read more

My husband and I were married at Lavender and Olive in October 2022. We DO NOT recommend this venue. They over promised and underdelivered on multiple accounts. During the sales process we were sold on a venue that would be with us, supporting us every step of the way, and working as a team to customize the wedding of our dreams. What we actually received was ever and still changing policies and procedures, red tape, and awful customer service. They were useless in the planning and execution process. They provided no support or solutions on the day of when it began to rain. And when the venue manager is heard saying she was "hiding because she didn't know what to do", it's alarming. The red flags are endless. 1- they turned staff in under 6 months 2- they modified policies and they've had multiple revisions post contract 3- Most communication with them was strained, disrespectful and condescending 4- the staff doesn't even know their own venue! ex: The pergola provides shade, not protection from rain, but we asked the venue manager directly on our final walk through and we were told otherwise. 5- The venue is unequipped and unable to adapt to unexpected changes. When weather took a drastic change the day of our wedding, we received no correspondence no advice and no directions other than 4 double easy ups, one of which leaked all over our DJ's equipment. A third party event tent was NEVER presented to us as an option. 6- ownership is quick to lawyer up, get defensive and dismiss any criticism regarding the operations of her business. Had this venue been priced similarly to other "just a venue" locations our expectations would not have been as high. But for a 10k venue, and from what we were told on both tours before and at signing, we expected a lot more help, support, and customer service. The lack of professionalism from all employees, and especially the owner Carolyn, made us feel this was the only way to save future couples from making a mistake by selecting this venue. Save your money and your sanity and find a more established and customer service driven venue, so you can have everything L&O promised with less financial burdens and stress. read more

This is the first time I've ever reviewed anything on Yelp, but I was really compelled to. I will echo that the place is well kept and just overall atheistically pleasing. My rating is solely based on my observation of the host/owner. After the wedding party shifted outside to start the ceremony (around 5pm), the host/owner was walking around, room by room, taking pictures of all of our things, almost as to prematurely say that our group was bound to leave a mess behind and she wanted documented proof. We still had approximately 6 more hours left on our booked time slot. I'm not entirely sure what the customary approach for an owner of a venue is, but it felt like we had an uninvited guest at the wedding the entire evening. I'm tempted to say that the fact that an hour plus prior to the event ending, the host walking around with a trash bag, going table by table, was helpful but it really just felt like she was just trying to rush us out. Our Ramona Rotary club held a fundraiser at this lovely spot on Saturday night. It could not have been more idyllic. The spot is beautiful, easy to find, has ample parking on stunning grounds. The owner is helpful and friendly, and made sure we had all that we needed. This hidden gem is really a unique spot with grounds that can accomodate groups of 100 to many, many more. We had our wedding in June of 2022. Although the Groom and I have not had any supee bad experiences with Carolyn (owner) during this process, we wanted to make sure our bridal party and parents felt the same before writing reviews. Upon reaching out to them, the stories have remained the same. Multiple parties have alleged that Carolyn was rude and snippy during their few interactions. Below is a quick synopsis of things I was totally unaware of during the wedding but feel VERY disheartened about: - We were scheduled for rehearsal from 3pm to 5pm. Carolyn had a personal engagement scheduled in the middle of our scheduled rehearsal time and tried to rush our timeline. -Carolyn was very unorganized. Days leading up to the wedding, she asked for documentation that was already sent. This initially wouldn't have been an issue but her venue manager quit mid-planning and, unfortunately, her constant emails, calls, and texts about changes came at a stressful time (2 days before the wedding). - Carolyn made comments about not sticking to our timelines to a WEDDING GUEST who later informed me. Unbeknownst to her, my MOH got a flat tire and my hairstylist had a family emergency. We had to make magic happen somewhere. - I was also informed that by my makeup artist that Carolyn took pictures of the bridal suite during the ceremony. It seems as if she wanted to preemptively collect "evidence" of some sort. - While the bridal party was packing up to leave, Carolyn basically told my mother to leave while she was holding my sleeping children. - My catering company left early due to Carolyn trying to make them clean the bathroom which is not their responsibility. - I'm missing my bridal robe and I'm sure it's at the venue. Outside of the lack of decorum from the owner/manager there were few issues. - The Casasita, where the men got dressed, has no air. My husband and the Groomsmen took turns coming in the main house to cool down. - For almost $10k for 1 day, the venue didn't include much. Just tables, chairs, and a security guard. If I can redo my wedding, I would search for an all-inclusive venue. Although the day did turn out beautiful overall, these things are very concerning to me and I would hate for another bride to deal with the same issues. Rent at your own risk. read more

I attended a wedding here a couple weeks ago, so I haven't worked with the staff but I can speak on my personal experience at the venue. It rained the entire day. All of the decor and table set ups were ruined. The venue had a few easy ups, over the DJ and food, but zero rain plan to advise the bride and groom. To think it's the bride and grooms responsibility to come up with a solution the day of their wedding is absurd. There were easily a dozen patio umbrellas sitting in the grove, doing absolutely nothing, and they remained there rather than being pulled to an area better served. The venue manager was nowhere to be found during the ceremony and heaters/fireplace the bride and groom fueled were not turned on until much later in the reception. We were soaking wet and cold most of the night. No panchos or umbrellas were provided. Truly awful experience for all of us and we all felt so awful for the bride and groom. I hope this venue offered them some type of reimbursement. Update: after speaking with the bride not only did this venue not reach out to apologize, but refused to even have a face to face conversation with them. I'm sure with the right weather this is a beautiful venue, but from what I've seen and heard first hand plus reading the responses to some of their negative reviews, the people who run this venue do not care about your event and refuse to take any responsibility when things don't go as planned. To the business owner: "I'm sorry you feel that way" is not an apology. When someone is paying you thousands of dollars to host one of the most important days of their lives, it is your job to hold up your end of the contract. The negative reviews posted here have very helpful information capable of transforming your business into a lucrative wedding venue. When your only response is to become defensive, combative, and you continue to deflect any shred of responsibility, you are making the situation much worse. From one business owner to another, customer service is the most important thing. You should work on yours. read more

Went to a wedding here a few weeks ago. The combing through by staff with garbage bags before the end of the wedding mentioned on other reviews happened here too. Strangely enough, the staff seemed to disappear once the bride and groom left and whoever was left had to help clean up. I also was shocked that they didn't have permanent toilets as well. The RV restrooms brought in were clean but it felt odd to use those at a wedding. There were a variety of other issues too, but the worst thing was that they ran out of water cups almost immediately, leading to everyone either needing to repurpose cups used for tequila shots or just drinking more because there wasn't anything else. This also happened on a 90 degree day, so it was especially egregious. I wouldn't recommend anyone having a wedding here. They have some major organizational problems that need to be fixed before it'd be worth it, not to mention the lack of accommodation nearby. read more

We had our wedding there in September and were absolutely blown away by the beautiful surroundings- we felt like we were in our own private getaway. We stayed at the Ranch House which made it so convenient to have everyone on site for the rehearsal dinner and to get ready the day of. It has multiple spaces available for the ceremony and reception and makes it so simple to host your entire wedding in one location. Robin, Carolyn and Denise are all so wonderful to work with and I would recommend this space to anyone in the market. read more

As head of the team at Bekker's Catering, we would like to say 'We love this venue!' It is beautiful and has so many positive attributes that many couples don't think about, but make so much difference in the smooth running of the event and the happiness of your guests. It is easy to find and to get to - with a country feel, but close to town. There is plenty of parking, taking away that stress from figuring out where to park. There are large beautiful separate spaces for all the things you need: Ceremony, Appetizers, Dinner, Dancing. The tables and chairs are included for both the ceremony and reception, alleviating the need for complicated rental orders. They even have Chiavari chairs included for the dinner! The string lighting above and perfect patio lighting makes it look great and not have any worry or expense for lighting. They include heaters, belly up tables, cute horse trailer bar, beautiful rest room trailer, bride and groom's dressing areas and more! It is level and easily walkable for everyone, with well maintained, beautiful grounds to enjoy. They allow plenty of time for set up and decorating and clean up. There is an easily accessible kitchen for catering, so we are able to set up and serve the guests quickly and efficiently. Groups up to 225 are no problem and there is plenty of space for all! We have catered many wonderful weddings at Lavender and Olive, and have lots more coming up. We can't wait to go back. If you have an upcoming wedding or event, this is the perfect, one stop venue for you! read more

My daughter was married there back in October. I can't even begin to tell you how nervous my wife and I were about this whole thing. More anxious than when we were married thirty years ago!! Not only was the location perfect, but most importantly, the owners Robin and Carolyn handled everything without a glitch. My nerves were somewhat eased when i saw how smoothly everything was going and my wife and I actually had a good time. I attended a wedding at this venue a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it rained and the venue had zero plan. They have a covered part of the courtyard. However, cover is porous so it may cover sunlight but water gets through it. Guests arrived to soaked tables and huddled along the deck of the main house. My friends big day was ruined by lack of planning by the venue and it's operator. Since the event, the owner Carolyn has been rude about making things right which is pretty consistent with other reviews below. I would not put my special day in the hands of Carolyn and her staff until they learn customer service. Also, they tried to delete my review. I missed when this venue moved to North Korea! read more

Starting this out that we booked this place over a year ago! If not for the group of family and friends that we have this could have been a horrible wedding day for my one and only daughter!! Starting out that the NIGHT before the wedding, my daughter gets a call from the venue asking what our arrangements are! WHAT THE HECK! You the venue that has had our booking for over a year is calling my stressed out daughter the night before to ask what the arrangements are! OHGosh! to say the least not a good move on your part Olive and Lavender! The newly wed couple was to have the honeymoon sweet that Saturday night after the wedding. We are told that they(venue) were not prepared for that, its in the contract HOLY MOLY, then they are put up in smaller room "hotel style" they call it. Only to find the next morning the newly wed couple are woken up by workers outside the door and window cleaning up at 8am!!!! Oh it gets better, they go to take a shower and guess what no water!!! The grounds are beautiful. Like I stated earlier if not for the amazing family and friends( and killer DJ) this could have been an awful experience. As a mother this is to be my little girls best day of her life, Olive and Lavender get your stuff together, don't go over booking your venue and ruin a brides best day! Not a happy mom.
