What a fantastic, intimate theater. There's not a bad seat in the house. The theater seats around 50, so it is indeed a small venue. Seating is comfortable. The folks running the place up front are kind and informative. We saw the one-man show, Vincent. It was fantastic. Even though I was in the second to last row (there aren't that many rows), I felt like I was right in the middle of the action. The location on Monmouth is convenient to many nearby restaurants, so it's easy to plan a nice dinner-and-a-show evening out with friends. read more

Gotta love this little venue for theater. We frequent here for their productions. I'm not a theater type guy but this place has some great shows. Tonight is a historical based play.. Breaking the code. A WWII story about Alan Turing. He was the genius behind breaking the German Enigma code system. The play was great. Kudos to the actors and the production staff. Falcon is a small local theater in Northern Kentucky. I have seen a handful of unique shows here including The 39 Steps, Assassins, and You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. Falcon does a lot with a little. Every seat is a good one, there just aren't too many of them. There's not much to the lobby as well. I would suggest grabbing food or a drink from one of the local bars, diners, or pizzerias before, after or at intermission. read more

This is a small venue, but actually has stadium seating, which is great and makes it where there is no bad seat in the house. The venue is a smaller than the Playhouse in the Park small room. There is a small concession area where everything is $2, and the staff was really nice. The show was "Poor Behavior", this was the second showing. The actors were good, and the play was very entertainingly funny. I would definitely recommend this theatre if your looking for a nice date idea, since it's reasonably price and next to a lot of bars and restaurants. I visited this location for a showing of "The Exonerated" (really good, check it out during its run) and I was pleasantly surprised with this venue. Clean and intimate, it's definitely a nice spot for a small show. The sound was good and the lighting was great. Seats were comfortable and felt spacious enough. I would have like a bigger bar/snack area, but I do recognize it's not the Aronoff. Parking was plentiful at meters in the area, but I didn't see a private lot. read more

It's pretty awesome to have a theatre company located in the heart of Newport. It hints at the essence of the city which was built on Vaudevillian entertainment and not the Levee complex. I've seen a few plays here, most recently, "Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical." I'll watch anything that's a musical; the more absurd the plot, the better. The actors really went above and beyond for this play over past shows, with choreographed dance routines, tap dancing, and tastefully hilarious dialogue. The Falcon Theatre sells beer and snacks in the lobby, and lets you eat during the show: a total change from traditional theatre. If you're new to the scene, this is definitely the place to start with its relaxed atmosphere. Inside, you'll find eight rows of seats with five seats per row, the first row being about 10 feet from the stage.This is intimate, community theatre at its finest; exactly what I'd expect in Newport. New content is regularly presented throughout the year, including "It's A Wonderful Life" presented as a radio drama, taking you back to the set of this 1940s classic. Parking is amazingly easy with plenty of on street parking on both sides of the street, also public parking half a block down. They have coffee and a few snacks and you can use your credit card. It's a decently sized space for a community theater, seating roughly 100. The audience section is well lit, and the seats are at well padded. One nice feature of the Theater is their Social Media friendly policy of providing seating (in the rear) for those who wish to use their smart phones during the performance. This is, I think, something that more and more theaters will need to address in the future. That makes this an edgy fun theater to attend. The theater appeared to be well maintained, and offered sodas for purchase as refreshment. Bottom line, if you like the community theater / fringe theater vibe, check this place out. read more

I attended Yelp's preview at the Falcon of Debbie Does Dallas (highly recommend!) I love these small intimate theaters. There is nothing I loath more than the Aronoff. Tiny seats, no leg room, and you are so far away from the stage that the people look like ants. I would much rather go to a theater where I can see the actors and stretch out. Also, how about the added benefit of supporting community theater projects. I have seen 2 productions at the Falcon and both have been top notch. Another thing I love about the Falcon is that you can buy candy and beverages and take them in with you during the show. While other theaters are worried you will ruin their upholstery, the Falcon doesn't have nice upholstery to worry about. I will say that the seats are uncomfortable, but what theater doesn't have uncomfortable seating. One hint... If the bank across the street is closed, you can park there for free. Support you local community theater, go see Debbie Does Dallas... or any other production at the Falcon. read more

I had the pleasure to see a play at the falcon theatre recently. I haven't been to many local theaters before, maybe only my second one, but I thoroughly enjoyed the show here. I went to see 39 steps. The actors did a great job with there accents and use of props. The creativity with the use of props was brilliant. The clowns in the play, those that played multiple parts, stayed in there respective characters well. I know I would have got lost in all the switching. I thought they were all very professional and the play was well done! The theater is quite small itself. It just has 2 sections of seating with a handful or so of rows. It's an intimate setting. They have added to the shows in the last row of seating the ability to use live tweet or Facebook during the shows. They gave is a hash tag to us if we wanted to tweet about the show. I thought this was a great idea for it allows them to get more promotion out and get the audience more involved. It's only allowed in the top row so they don't bother others with their bright screens. Not many theaters allow this so they are kinda in the forefront of this trend. I look forward to going to more shows here. read more

I don't think I've ever seen a bad show here! Some have been a little slow to get started yes, but they make up for it in the end. I love the intamacy of the theatre, and the shows that really feed off the audience. It's perfect for shows like that. You can have food and drink during shows, and in some seats are even encouraged to take pics and live tweet about the show if you want! The group of actors are great! Yes, you may see the same faces show after show, but they have no problems making you think it's a whole other person. They're a great group of actors/actresses. read more

I didn't grow up with theater. Other than the requisite plays kids get taken to on school trips, I don't think I saw a play until I was in my 20's. Then my life started crossing with people who are definitely theater people and I started seeing a lot more. Voluntarily, I should add. Then a couple of my jobs exposed me to other forms of theater I'd never experienced: dance, ballet and opera. So my taste in theater doesn't come from a long, studied history. It comes from tagging along with people who know what they're talking about or working with artists who were pushing their own boundaries. What I've found I like best are productions that create a sense of intimacy somehow. Falcon Theater productions easily achieve that sense of intimacy, but it's not just a function of the cozy space. There's a fair chance that fellow audience members will know members of the cast. The actors have to project to fill the room without sound reinforcement, yet modulate their actions to a degree appropriate to a more interpersonal level. I've seen two productions at Falcon now -- "Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical" and "It's a Wonderful Life, a Radio Play" and in both they meet the challenge. Actors fluidly change roles where appropriate (the number of bodies the space can accomodate is limited, after all), they exit and enter the performance space from every direction, and in these two productions, at least, the fourth wall was effectively broken for comic effect. It's not like a troupe of actors showed up your house and put on a show for you, but it's pretty darn close. And I think that's a great thing. read more

I absolutely love the small intimate local theatres and I love to support them. I like the Falcon Theatre but I've seen 3 plays there and have walked out during intermission on 2 of them. Maybe I'm just going to the wrong productions. I do love the theatre its self. There's not a bad seat in the house, the staff is very courteous and if you sit in the back row you are encouraged to use your phones to Yelp, tweet or facebook letting everyone know that you're there and having fun. I'm hesitant to go back, but if a play sounds interesting enough I will definitely be back and maybe change my review to 4 stars ohhhhhhhh.......I wish they served wine, beer or alcohol read more

I was at the "Blogger/Media" night for the opening of "Evil Dead: The Musical" I'd never been to the Falcon before, and I didn't really know what to expect. I was really surprised. It is a lot smaller than I had expected. But, that does not mean it's not awesome...because it is. There are about 5 rows of 5 seats on each side (Maybe a few more..but not much) and there is about 8 feet between the front row and the stage. There are exposed brick walls and lamp type lighting to make it an awesome experience! I had a great time at the show. The man in charge was very cordial and excited about the opening of a new show. All in all, it was a great time. If you get a chance go see "Evil Dead: The Musical" before it's gone. And, don't worry...I'm sure there are more great shows coming soon! read more

So Beth and I received tickets to Yelp's preview of 39 steps. This is a nice quite, up close theater. This was actually my second play so i was excited to get in and watch. Seating was close, just 2 sections with seats very close together. Also after about 20 minutes the seats became very uncomfortable. Its all a very intimate setting. The last few rows are reserved for social media, so you can facebook, tweet, etc while the play is going. Just no flash pictures. They gave out the hash tag which was cool, free promotions for them! parking was on the street and hard to come by, staff was very nice and open, they offered recycling the playbooks which makes me happy. This is for certain a hidden gem and i can't wait for see what is next. read more

One of cultural deficiencies is that I am not a theatre person. No matter how many shows I go to, I just can not get into it. Maybe I was just spoiled to live shows as a child by television and movies, but I just can never manage to muster the 'suspension of disbelief'. With this in mind, I was a little more than skeptical when I won tickets (thanks Yelp Cincinnati!) to a showing of It's a Wonderful Life at the Falcon Theatre in Newport, especially since it was a radio show. I've never been to a radio show before and thought it might be odd. It is one of my fiancee's favorite movies, though, so I knew she would be excited to go. We headed over to the theatre yesterday evening for their preview-slash-final dress rehearsal of the show. The Falcon Theatre is a very, very small place located on Monmouth south of the Levee. I think I may have been down this far south like twice before, which shows how little I get across the river. We went in and were greeted by their artistic director and took our seats. They crowd was a little under half full, but if they fill this place on a regular night's show, it must get cramped. The chairs, oddly enough, are not your typical theatre seats which are bolted to the ground, but normal chairs. I'm not going to review the show itself, but I have to say: I was very impressed. I found, surprisingly, to be enjoying myself immensely. All the performers did a great job and the sound (and especially the sound effects) was great. I was very, very pleased. The radio show format was unique and like nothing I've ever seen before. It must be extremely difficult to perform for an in-theatre audience and a radio audience at the same time. Did Falcon Theatre win me over to theatre? Probably not. In its own right, though, they do what they do waaaaaay beyond adequately, and there is something to be said for that. Just because its not my cup of tea doesn't mean they're not a great establishment. In fact, if you're looking for something unique to do, you should head over and catch a show. Even if you're like me and don't appreciate theatre, you might find yourself surprised. read more

I've been to the Falcon Theatre twice and I'll be back many more times to be sure. The first time was for a preview for the first time they did "It's a Wonderful Life: The Radio Play" and most recently, we went to see "Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical." Very different shows, but both of them were great. For "DDD", we took along my best friend who is active in community theater in Terre Haute and she loved it too. Combine a show with dinner at the Newport Pizza Company or La Mexicana and you've got a great night out for not a lot of money. We enjoyed ourselves so much we became patrons! read more

Not really a theatre person, not really a Alfred Hitchcock fan, but I sure do like to try new things and with free pizza this was a win/win. Decided to defy the freezing temps and take my bike over to New Port for my first theatre experience in many many years. Falcon theatre is very small, and I had often walked by the entrance wondered what they did in there, so happy to finally found out. My first Yelp event begins with great pizza in a very crowded hallway, but that made for good people watching and ease dropping... Pizza was great BTW. The show starts and it is full speed ahead for about 2 hours. The 4 actors did an excellent job, lost count on how many different roles it amounted up to, together with how many times I laughed. It really were splendid acting and this will not be the last play I go to at the Falcon theatre! My biggest problem was that I have only seen 1 Alfred Hitchcock movie and that is the one about the birds. Therefore I sometimes had trouble connecting the dots of the 39 steps. BUT it all worked out for the best and I had a great time. Will definitely see if I can get a spot in the next Yelp event, that appeals to my social, intellectual or foodie side. read more

I've been here on a number of occassions and I enjoy myself. It's a relaxed theater. I think the stuffiness that so many put on drives people away from the theater. This doesn't happen here. You can eat and drink in the theater and there's no signs telling you what you can and can't do. The staff is friendly and the snack prices aren't jacked up like at some places that have you captive. However, I have a hard time with the $18 ticket charge. Call me cheap (you're cheap) but when you're unsure of what kind of product you're going to get on stage, investing $72 just to walk in the door for a family of four is hard to do. However, I've not really seen or heard of a bad performance at the theater so that final objection is being muted over time. read more

I went the Falcon Theater earlier this week with some friends for a viewing of "It's a Wonderful Life: A Radio Drama." It was a fantastic--a great adaption of the movie. As others have said, the theater is small and intimate, which is great by me, and the staff was very kind. The show started right on time and lasted 90 minutes including intermission, as the staff promised it would. I certainly appreciate the small things like that (especially after seeing a show at a different theater earlier in the week that started late and lasted nearly 2 hours and went without an intermission. It's hard to enjoy a show when you're feeling restless in your seat.) I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Falcon Theater, as did my friends, and would happily attend another performance there! read more

This was my first time going to small production like this and it was a lot of fun. One downside about the place are the seats. They're fairly uncomfortable but we were told they're in middle of raising funds for new ones. What can I say about Falcon Theatre that hasn't been said so well in the previous reviews? This unique and intimate theater is surrounded by an interesting set of shops on Monmouth Street in Newport, and is located next to one very cool costume shop a few blocks south of the Newport on the Levee complex. There are plenty of places to eat before or after the show, and during the warmer months, it makes for a nice pre-theatre stroll. I have always found Falcon to be a friendly group, who seem to very quickly get to know you on sight. Ted Weil, a co-founder and the Artistic Director of Falcon, is an ever present, perpetually smiling force, and is pretty much the face of the theatre. He manages, acts, directs, produces...you name a job that needs to be done, and it seems he is there to do it. He has with him a tremendous group of people who make sure that things go as well as they would at any venue. A night here is truly a comfortable and enjoyable experience. The theatre is not large, currently seating around 80, but the quality of the performances are by no means small. Although I had already seen one production here, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) in 2009, I didn't become a real regular here until the following year. Since that time, I have had the pleasure of seeing almost 20 shows in the dark of the Falcon - shows that range from classics such as And Then There Were None and The 39 Steps, to unique musicals, such as Gilligan's Island: The Musical, Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical, Bat Boy: The Musical, Don't Cross the Streams: The Cease and Desist Musical and Evil Dead: The Musical (which comes complete with an audience designated "Splatter Zone"). Then there are ones that you just don't seem to find elsewhere, like the satirical and humorous Duck Hunter Shoots Angel, and the mysterious The Woman in Black. The Holidays are recognized annually as well. Whether it's their version of the ever popular It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Drama, the poignant Striking 12, a modern day take on the Little Match Girl, or the dark, dark comedy Eight: The Reindeer Chronicles, you can fill your holiday cup to the brim here. One of the true advantages of a smaller venue such as this is the closeness to the actors, which at times seems to give one the feeling that they are actually in the scene itself, and at times you are. When you see a show like One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest in this way, you really get a sense that you too, may be in the asylum as well. One of the most outstanding performances I have seen in the myriad of local and national productions that I have had the pleasure of seeing over these last few years has been at Falcon. Their version of The Elephant Man was simply incredible. Done without prosthetics, you truly believed and felt the physical pain and suffering endured by The Elephant Man, Joseph Merrick. He was portrayed by Joshua Steele, an incredible actor whose twisted and contorted body grippingly held you for two plus hours on stage. If you walked away dry eyed when the curtain closed, you certainly had checked your humanity at the door. I truly look forward to seeing In the Heat of the Night come this weekend. The building that housed the theatre was recently purchased by Falcon, and they are aggressively improving it. The concession area in the lobby has been recently renovated (there are drinks and snacks available for sale before the show and during intermission, which can be taken into the theater), and there are bigger plans as well. The biggest of these will be to add true theatre style seats, a great improvement over the small padded seats that are currently there. There has been a moderately successful "Riser Raiser" campaign put on by the theatre the last couple of years to enable these improvements, and rumor has it that that time has about come. I really enjoy attending shows here. The five star rating is based upon the quality of this type of production setting. If you wish to see twenty foot tall giraffes in The Lion King, or Peter Pan fly 50 feet across a stage, you won't find that here. But if you get the chance, I strongly suggest you at least try one evening here. read more

So, I came to see THE ELEPHANT MAN because I loved the David Lynch movie. I was amazed that the play, at least staged at Falcon, was a much better story. This seems like a little mom-and-pop (or maybe pop--and-pop) operation. I support that a hundred percent. I love how the audience is so close to the actors that you can see them sweat and cry and spit on each other. I mean, you've gotta be moved when some guy just 3 feet away from you is crying... or some chick just disrobed! Anyhow, if there's anything I'm disappointed by, it's that there were so few people there the night I saw THE ELEPHANT MAN. I know that Cincinnati is all about "if it isn't the biggest, it ain't the best" mentality (look at Krogers, P&G, or Chikita) - but I would think we would want to support local artists doing EXCEPTIONAL work. I attended Yelp's preview of Falcon Theatre's Fully Committed and was thoroughly impressed by the production quality - the show was incredible. Donnie McGovern's acting ( of 20 + easily distinguishable characters) was solid and could just as easily have been on the stage at the Ensemble Theatre or the Playhouse. The tempo of the show expertly matched the main character's experiences as it ranged from a frenetic wearying panic with incessant phone ringing to an almost silent, still tender moment between Sam and his recently widowed father. If you have a free evening this weekend or next, I would definitely check out Falcon Theatre's Fully Committed. read more

Attended the free preview night of Falcon's 39 Steps this past week. The cast was great! The show is really funny and entertaining. I love smaller cast productions especially when they do the whole "different hats" thing which they do a few times in this show. They build in set changes and don't try to act like they aren't on a stage with a door on wheels--one actor in particular cracked me up every time he was on stage..."Just putting the door away!" SO GOOD. I will definitely be back for other shows! read more

Excellent excellent theatre every show is extensively rehearsed and even when a show is sold out they do their absolute best to get everyone in, and usually do. Also the shows they pick are fantastic you can see a drama that will make you cry or a comedy that will leave your sides hurting from the laughter, also the staff and the performers actually talk to people after the show in contrast to some other area theaters who just leave also going to their auditions it's very professional and somehow welcoming at the same time. I go to a lot of theatre shows (this year it will be 20+). I went to the Falcon Theatre for the first time to see: Debbie Does Dallas the Musical. Apparently, they do a campy musical each year, I have tended to stay more downtown Cincinnati, since I live there, but have started going to Northern Kentucky more often and is getting more aquanted with what is offered there. For a small theatre, I think they did a great job. It has been awhile since I have laughed that much. Although I probably would not go see a mainstream show there, but I definately will go back for any of quirky/campy shows that they do, especially their campy musicals. I had though about going to see the Evil Dead last year but did not and now I really regret not going. I think it is great they are willing to do non-mainstream plays. The more diveristy in theatre that is available the better in my opinion. It is an interesting vibe there, when I was there so many of the audience seemed to know each other and the people that worked there or the people who were in the show. Reading some other reviews it seems that this is not unusual. read more
