I found The Getaway Cafe through a local recommendation, and he did not steer me wrong. Breakfast here was great. Portions are big. My husband and I shared the chilaquiles with chorizo (their specialty) along with their coconut French toast. The chilaquiles dish was tasty. We felt the coconut French toast with bananas was okay and a little overhyped. Service was perfect. Our waitress kept checking on us and I noticed the owner personally visited each table as well. I would come back next time to try other dishes.

Getaway Cafe was recommended to us by my brother in law and sister in law. They visited before during their trips to Lake Tahoe. We checked it out this morning for breakfast. They had the banner for best brunch 2025 hanging nicely. Diane, the owner, put us on the waitlist and also showed us to our table. Very warm welcome! We started off with coffee. Hubby had the Chorizo Quesadilla and enjoyed it very much. The portion was enough for 2 meals. Sure enough, he took half home. I had the Coconut French Toast, the small portion. Even though it's supposed to be small, I still left some on my plate. Love the fresh sliced bananas with it! There are more menu items we would love to try. Just need to come back and visit again!

I don't know what I liked more ~ the excellent food or the warm greetings and service or outdoor seating. I can't say enough about the fresh quality of the food. The breakfast choices were out of this world. The special was monte Cristo. 5/5. As a vegetarian I had lots of choices and was very happy with my Spanish omelette- great coffee and a full bar.

This is our second time here, but first time back in 7 years. It was just as good as I remembered. We arrived in Saturday around 8am and it wasn't busy at all, which was really nice. There is a lot of parking. The inside is a little small, but it's super cozy. We were seated right away. All of the waitresses were super friendly and helpful. I ordered the Morning After with sausage. It was so good. The potatoes were seasoned perfectly. The biscuit was nice and fluffy and the sausage gravy was super flavorful. My husband ordered the eggs benedict and he really liked it. We were in and out which was nice as we wanted to beat the traffic back down the hill to get home. We will absolutely be back the next time we are in Tahoe.

Service was great and to our delight we were seated right away during brunch time. Food was good though on the salty side for my taste.

The Coconut Crème French toast with shredded coconut, bananas and a decadent coconut crème sauce- all homemade!! EXCELLENT! :-)

After being in South Tahoe for the last four days I can say without a doubt, the Getaway Café is my favorite restaurant. The food was exceptional; I love French toast and they have four different types! I got the coconut French toast with shredded coconut, bananas, and a decadent coconut cream sauce, smothering it! It was amazing! The bloody Mary's are also great. For those of you that like it spicy, they do use horseradish and their bloody Mary mix is incredible! But I have to say, the best part of this restaurant is the staff and ambience. Everyone was so incredibly kind and helpful. Our drinks never went below half a glass, and the helpings were tremendous and kept coming! I would absolutely recommend this restaurant, hands-down! If you only go one place in Tahoe for breakfast or lunch, go to the Getaway Café. You won't regret it! :-)

This was such a unique find outside the bustling South Lake scene and well worth the quick jaunt to get there. We were greeted by a sweet lady who happened to be the owner, playing host and seating customers. Upon seating us, we were informed of the specials and notified of their homemade, popular chorizo. I immediately knew I had to order a dish that featured it, and the omelette was my choice. Cheesy, flavorful, packed with veggies and chorizo, encompassed with eggs made for a perfect brunch. We even got the mimosa sampler - a bottle of bubbly with your choice of three juices, to split amongst our table of three was enough to keep us happy. The waitstaff buzzed around frequently to check on us, but everything was so well done there was no need for anything extra. This is a must stop if you're in town for the weekend!

Love this hidden gem in Myers on the way in or out of Tahoe. They have a great menu, cozy interior, and kind staff. I got the eggs Benedict and it might have been the best eggs Benedict I've ever had. I'm excited to come back and try more from the menu!

It was such a cute little hole in the wall breakfast place that many locals recommended. We came in on a Monday morning before heading back, it was pretty packed inside, but we got a table in under five minutes. We ordered the Chilaquiles, the chocolate chip pancakes, and an orange juice. I loved the Chilaquiles It had really good flavor, and the chocolate chip pancakes were perfectly fluffy and melt in your mouth. Everyone was also super kind and super attentive. I will definitely be back when I'm back in town!

Small restaurant so expect a little wait! But we came here after taking the kids to the snow area just a minute away. Greeted immediately the owner and she was the sweetest! Waiter explained the menu and what they would recommend. Honestly, I didn't have much hope since most restaurants in Tahoe is bland and flavorless but this place! Really good!! I got the chicken Cesar wrap and it was delicious! My bf got the clam chowder and burger! The clam chowder was soo good and burger was a huge portion but delicious! Also tried their cup of chili! Very happy with this place for lunch! Staff is so friendly and nice. Very "home like" feeling!

My breakfast today was simply French toast, eggs and their excellent sausage patties. Yum!

We have eaten here a number of times and the food and service is always very good. Good coffee and a delicious variety of mimosas!

I was hoping The Gateway Cafe would be a 5 star experience. The staff is so friendly and accommodating! A "Shout Out" to Bailey. Unfortunately, the food was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe the cook was having a bad day. It happens. My friend loves pancakes. When I saw The Getaway Cafe offered giant pancakes...I told her we needed to go check out the pancakes. The giant pancake wasn't quite so giant. I've seen a "senior" pancake the size of a 12 inch dinner plate. As I previously mentioned...they are very accommodating. My friend ordered the breakfast special. She wanted 1 pancake, 1 French toast, 1 sausage and 1 bacon. I told her she was crazy asking for so many deviations...but Bailey told her it was no problem. Wow! that was impressive. My friend said the pancake wasn't all that fluffy and the French toast was chewy. Another friend ordered Corned Beef Hash. It was tasty...but slightly burnt. Chicken Fried Steak is one of my go to breakfast items. I was excited it was made fresh and not of the frozen variety. Unfortunately, it lacked flavor. The gravy helped. Hubby ordered the chilaquiles. He loved the beans, but said he would pass on the chilaquiles next time. I wish I could give The Gateway Cafe 3 3/4 stars. Almost a 4...but the food didn't quite hit the mark for me..

Ask the Community - The Getaway Cafe

Are there any gluten-free options? Bread?

We were just there last month and unfortunately there wasn't a gluten free bread option. Just corn tortillas or lettuce were their suggestions.

Is the Parmesan crusted grilled cheese sandwich still available ... or did I miss it on the current menu?

Yep...just saw it on the menu yesterday! 😁

Do they take reservations?

No. First come first serve

Is breakfast served all day?

Yes until 2 om

Are dogs allowed on the outdoor patio?

Yes but they only serve outside when they have a larger staff to cover outside. I would call ahead and see if the outdoor patio is open for service.

On a Sunday morning, the location was empty except for the two of us. The interior had seating with books and items for sale to peruse. There was also some seating outside which would be nice for the warmer weather. The employees were friendly and we could tell that our drinks were made with care. The owners of this super cute and thoughtfully decorated shop live and breath coffee & Chai culture, and they just so happen to actually be great people (some of the coolest I've met in life, really) & make BOMB drinks. First of all.. the quality of everything is there 2nd- they actually know how to balance things out, compliment, & highlight flavors and ingredients in a way that strike notes. You take a sip and you immediately know that yes - this is a good drink. And as soon as you leave the shop and start dreading the moment of your last sip, you'll know you've found one of your favorite coffee shops. Major points for making their own chai, carrying pastries (these are well balanced and not overly sweet as well) & smoothies, and supplying the cutest merchandise around. Super happy to support this neat little local shop owned by the coolest people who pour their hearts out on this coffee shop. Shout outs to Autumn & Connor. Thanks for leading the way! First, this is a coffee and Kava lounge. I don't know much about Kava, so I can only speak to the coffee. They do also have some food, but I am not sure how that works since there was only a single employee when we visited. Maybe only certain hours? Maybe it just takes some time? Not sure, we skipped food on this visit. We ordered one of their signature matcha drinks and a cold brew. The single employee was friendly and doing the best she could, but it got quite busy and I could tell she was struggling to keep up. The prices at the register were $0.25-$0.75 higher than what was listed on the menu board. Always a bit annoying... The matcha was good, the foam texture is very cool, however the cup was more ice than beverage. The cold brew was fine, nothing special but still tasty. I liked the vibes a lot when I walked in here. It's filled with plants and natural light, but then I looked around a bit more and the space just felt messy. There was stuff everywhere, boxes laying on the ground, and generally just a lot of clutter in the space. Overall, I think there are better coffee spots in South Lake Tahoe. If you're looking for Kava, give this place a go, but for coffee I would steer you somewhere else.
