We decided to stop for breakfast before heading back home. I saw the reviews on Yelp and decided on Freel Perk Cafe. We were immediately greeted with great service at the register, I wish we had gotten his name! We ordered huevos rancheros with chicken and chilaquiles with chorizo. The food was so good! Well cooked, assembled, and great variety of ingredients that tasted really fresh. It also only took about 12 minutes to get our food which was perfect. The restaurant is cute and clean and has a little coffee shop attached. The shop also had a great environment and that's where we got our coffee as we waited on our food. I 100% recommend and would go again! read more

I grabbed a quick bite here while traveling for work. This cafe is connected to the Mexican restaurant next door, and it looks like the cooked items on the menu comes from there as well. I ordered the roasted veggie quiche which was pre-made and heated up. It was pretty good for not being fresh. My Co worker got a beggars breakfast burrito which was made fresh next door. Prices were kind of high for what you got but the food filled us up and service was friendly. If I came back, I would probably try something at the Mexican place. read more

I usually stop by here for a smoothie when passing through the area. I used to swear by the Tropical Tallac, but this time I also tried the Freel Good and I think I like that one better now. I liked the tropical Tallac so much I tried to recreate the recipe at home (not the same). It is a bit pricey for a smoothie, but I think the flavors are good! I've also had their lattes and the banana bread before and thought those were good too! The breakfast burrito is decent as well. Service is usually pretty quick! Parking is a bit limited in the area, but not too bad. There's some seating inside but there are also tables and umbrellas outside. Look up inside for some unique interior deco! read more

We picked up breakfast and coffee from this adorable spot multiple times during our trip. There were so many menu items we wanted to try - including some delicious sounding smoothies and healthy items. The coffee is great and my BF enjoyed his bagel breakfast sandwich a lot. The vanilla latte had pretty latte art and beautiful microfoam. The food is served HOT. It is not a large place, but there is a nice amount of seating indoor and outdoor. We stopped by this coffee shop and tried the marshmallow latte, the eggnog latte, and a smoked salmon cream cheese bagel. Everything tasted great, but the prices were on the higher side. We paid about $35 for the two medium coffees and the bagel, and later, I got three cake pops for $19. When we tried to order certain food items, they mentioned the kitchen was backed up, and it would take about 30 minutes. We opted for quicker options like bagels and sandwiches, which were prepared at the coffee station and came out fast. Overall, it's a really cute place, especially outside with the lights and trees. Stopped by after tubing on our family getaway to Tahoe. Cute little cafe that serves baked goods, sandwiches, coffee, tea, etc... There were 12 of us and the young lady who took our order did it very swiftly and was so sweet. Our drinks came out quickly and when you pick up your drinks the baristas greet you with smiles. Very inviting warm decor and plenty of parking. Perfect spot right outside the busy South Lake Tahoe strip. This will be my new coffee spot when out here. This place is packed! Due to the long wait (40 minutes) times for food we did not order any hot food. That being said, I asked for an iced coffee and they didn't offer it...so I got a latte instead. 8/10. Freel smoothie 7/10. Tasted like the description. Nothing special. Acai bowl 9/10. Food and drinks are great and get a 5-star review. However, this cafe suffers from serious organizational issues. There's no shortage of staff, yet everything feels disjointed and sluggish. Our group of four ordered coffee and matcha lattes, and two salmon bagels, and it took an unexpectedly 25 minutes for anything to arrive. Service gets a 1-star review. It doesn't take long to notice that the problem lies in the lack of coordination. Employees move about aimlessly, unsure of their roles or timing, which creates a sense of chaos rather than calm efficiency. It's clear that this isn't a matter of laziness--it's a management failure. The staff seem earnest but unsupported, left to figure things out on their own in a busy environment. The place has potential--the atmosphere is pleasant, and the menu reads well--but potential means little without direction. As it stands, this café operates more like a ship without a captain than a well-run business. When the owner is there, the service is faster. Too bad the owner doesn't see this when he is not there. As I was driving to Tahoe, I found this cute little spot. I'm a big fan of coffee, the inside is super clean, the staff is super friendly + it's at a beautiful location. If you are looking for some coffee on the way to Tahoe, this is your spot. The first time I went I got a matcha drink, I didn't know that it was a hot drink, I'd recommend getting it iced. I also went on the way back from Tahoe and got an iced coffee, it was really tasty. Really enjoyed the coffee here and the atmosphere! The Freel Perk Cafe is a little cute coffee shop that offers a very relaxing environment with delicious food. You can sit in some old fashion chairs and sip on your drink of choice. The food that I ordered was absolutely delicious. I got the breakfast burrito and a chai latte. Hands down, probably the best chai latte I've ever had. In addition to this, the breakfast burrito was fresh and the hash browns inside the burrito really hit the spot. Furthermore, the service was friendly and the cook even added bacon to our burrito for us. If you're in the area, this a must stop place for some coffee and breakfast items. read more

I appreciate the attempt to have a good quality cafe in a small town, and I can tell Freel Perk draws on a fair number of local customers in addition to the ubiquitous tourist base. And generally speaking, the coffee is reasonably good; I've certainly had worse at shops that purport to be something special. But FPC is painfully mismanaged. They have an ample number of employees, but they are so uncoordinated that wait times verge on the ridiculous. Our party ordered coffee only and it was almost a 20 minute experience from order to lips. Those ordering food waited considerably longer. Just looking at the operation showed that there was little direction. The young workforce flitted to and fro, lacking a clear sense of who should be doing what and perhaps more importantly, when. This is an indictment of the management, not of the staff struggling to meet a large customer base. Freel Perk has potential. But right now, it is the cafe equivalent of a chicken with its head cut off. read more

Cute little cafe with limited seating but decent menu items. The ordered turkey pesto sandwich was good and the lovers lane raspberry mocha was delicious! Would come here again for morning coffee and a quick bite to eat. Next door and attached to the cafe is the Frescana Mexican Bistro which has food items that you can also order from which is nice. Service is okay since it's a seat yourself and pick up the food at the countertop when it's ready. read more

What a delightful place to visit on our last day in Tahoe!! Utterly charming and quaint. Nestled in a little mall with log cabin motif, and spectacular scenery outside the door. We used the take out feature as we are going out to the airport but just watching the dynamics, we wish we could have stayed longer. The baristas are extremely friendly and efficient. I had a lovely late breakfast and latte here in the middle of the day. Yes, it took a little bit for the food and drink to come but it's a comfortable place to hang out so I suggest relaxing and enjoying the ambiance. We do not leave Tahoe without stopping for a large coffee for the road. Our kids love the food and the ambiance is really cool. They recently built an outdoor patio that is amazing. Stopped for a quick bite on my way through town. Coffee, pastries, veggie options. My breakfast was delicious, the açaí bowl. I also ordered my usual coffee, an iced americano with sugar free syrup and almond milk. I ate the bowl at the table because it was not eat in your car type of deal. If you've never had an acai bowl, picture a smoothie but in a bowl and topped with goodies like banana slices and granola. Customer service was great and that's always my first hope in any visit eating out. Lots of the pastries looked so good but I stayed away from them on this visit:( They have an email subscription which will share the daily specials. My friends and I stopped here on our way out of Tahoe and were pleasantly surprised by the breakfast offerings. They had everything from smoothies to chilaquiles to breakfast burritos. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, which was ham, cheese, and egg on an everything bagel. They must've cooked the eggs in butter because it was delicious; I wasn't expecting much but enjoyed it. Vegan? Skip this place. Ordered Avocado Toast & requested to skip the 2 eggs included in the price. Asked if in place of the 2 eggs I could get a little bit of the purple sweet potatoes instead. Was told there would be an up-charge for that. Both eggs & ube are expensive at the store. But seems weird they couldn't pop 3 bites on the plate & call it a swap? Service? I had to stand to order at a counter, go fetch my own drink and clear my own table. So I don't really feel like they get a service rating. This was an unexpected nice find. This coffee bar and cafe shares space with the Mexican restaurant in the same building. The coffee drinks are very good with a nice selection of various espresso options. I was not there for a meal, but the breakfast menu looks great and the diners here had some really nice looking meals in front of them. Service is very friendly and helpful! read more

Freel Perk Coffee Shop was opened in June of 2013. We got our name from Freel Peak, the highest peak in Lake Tahoe standing over 10k feet high. My partner got the tuna melt and I just expect a tuna melt to be sort of heaping, like a thick layer of tuna, but the tuna layer was equally as thick as the bread. Also, I got the rösti, and it's about 1 and a half to 2 cups of hash browns with cheese and diced meat on top. As we know, hash browns are super cheap. I got it "loaded" which is choosing all three of the meat options (tiny diced cubes of ham, small slices of breakfast sausage, and bacon bits) and it became $21. I felt like that is pretty steep for hash browns and a quarter cup of meat, but I understand mountain towns have to raise prices to offset the shipping/travel costs. The service here is friendly and helpful. My wife and I ordered a Bear Bowl, which is either a large cookie or a brownie, warm, topped with ice cream. We opted for a brownie with a berry pie ice cream and Smore Ice cream. Both of the ice cream flavors deliciously creamy, while the brownie was rich and chocolatey. It was super busy,…read morealmost all the tables outside were full between here and the cocktail place next door --which I guess the outdoor patio area is a shared space? We had to go inside and ask where we were allowed to sit because there wasn't any signage that indicated a shared space vs. one building's/another's. This space is kid friendly and dog friendly so expect an overwhelming amount of both. They had overflow seating way in the back, somewhat in the woods in a tanbark area - which was basically empty but far away from the stage so it was hard to hear the music as you face the back of it. Yes, music! I actually specifically chose this spot on this evening because I wanted to hear some country music. I literally just googled and found the Tahoe live music page that shows which artists are playing when and where. The group did some classic covers. We sat facing the band but towards the back tables closer to the parking lot. It was loud enough to enjoy without the ear-piercing decibels when you sit right in front. Also, speaking to previous reviewers, this is Tahoe (not the Bay Area), so it definitely has a more casual vibe, and the type of place is in the name, you know? Anyways--so in terms of the ordering system, the way it works is you find a table FIRST, then someone from your party goes to get in line and order food inside. I believe there were multiple spots where you could also get your beer card if you weren't ordering food, but I'm not fully confident on that. The physical menus (up to date) have a QR code that links to an old menu (not up to date, from 2019 I think it was?), so watch out for that - because I tried to order a speciality pizza from what I saw on the QR online menu and that's no longer available. You can also find the updated version of the menu online - so maybe, AleWorx, if you read reviews, you can update the hyperlink. Waiting in line took about 20 minutes. They have menus available to look at while in line, so I wish people didn't wait until they're standing in front of a staff member to start pondering the menu. The beer card is a cool concept, I've seen it once before in another city. You put a credit card on file and get a blank key card for the tap wall. You have to place the keycard in the specific beer's card slot horizontally and leave it in there until you fill up your glass (found on the lefthand side of the taps). The idea is you can serve yourself however many ounces you want and you pay per--so you could try a taster of a whole bunch before figuring out what to get a glass of. On that night, they had mostly beers from their own brewery but also a few from other locations, including cider options, a hard seltzer, and sangria. After you order food, you get a number and tell the staff member where you are sitting so they can bring food out to you when it's ready. I think we waited about 15 minutes? Not sure, but it felt quick. All the staff members we interacted with were friendly and helpful. Pizza itself came out charred quite a bit around the crust (which was a bummer because I couldn't eat those parts and crust is my favorite) but overall had amazing flavor combinations. We had the Mora and the Supreme at our table and enjoyed both. It's definitely wetter in the middle depending on your toppings so I folded the bottom half of the slice upward to keep it all together. It was super filling so we ended up grabbing some boxes to-go with leftovers. We oven toasted the next day and it held up--still delicious! You have to go inside the building over by the tap wall area in order to checkout with your blank beer card. I wish you didn't have to go back in and close out. The other place I referenced has key card drop boxes with different tip amounts on it. It is definitely easier and more efficient but I guess maybe people like to see and confirm their final bill? I've never been to the other locations, so I cannot speak to them, but regardless, this one at the Y was a really nice evening!

I'm guessing he had some bad customers before us, but it is sooo unprofessional to act like that to more customers after. ALSO!! Our food came out in 20 minutes!! So it wasn't even that bad of a wait. I was baffled and his comments stuck around our party like a bad smell. Sooo yeah, don't recommend, there's other places that serve mid and expensive food around here to try instead without the bad service.
