I transferred to FCMC quite late in my pregnancy. I was previously seeing Dr. Endelmen at Plano Presbyterian. We briefly discussed my wishes to have a natural birthing experience, but never really went in depth. As my pregnancy progressed I thought we needed to have a better understanding. I explained that I was most interested in a natural third stage. I wished for my placenta to self deliver to which he flat out stated no he wouldn't do that. As I questioned his reasoning he asked what he would be doing for 15-20 minutes while we awaited the placenta and laughed hold your baby. I replied, "no, I'd like to hold my own baby during that time." He then went on to explain how it wasn't physically possible for me to hold my own baby until the placenta delivers as the umbilical cord wouldn't reach. I was then left trying to find a new provider at 30 weeks. When I discovered FCMC it was such a relief. I knew by my first phone call with Linda that I would be in great hands. Relaxed environment and caring midwives who helped me throughout my entire pregnancy and post as well. Christina is simply amazing but Robyn and Joyce were also so very helpful. They are a dynamic threesome with knowledge in so many areas regarding natural child birth. My visits never felt rushed and helped me have the tools to birth naturally (even with my very long labor). I'm a first time mom. I've always wanted an out of hospital birth, I researched several options in the dfw area and went to a couple of meet and greets at different centers. Family Centered Maternity Care met all my expectations. I felt cared for in all my prenatal appointments. I liked that there were holistic options and more modern medical options available to me. I mostly met with Robin during my prenatal appointments but Christina was my delivery midwife with Hali assisting and Joyce on backup. BIRTH EXPERIENCE / EMERGENCY I gave birth 8/12/2018. I had complications afterward due to an unknown, preexisting heart defect. It quickly became a medical emergency and Christina and Joyce made sure the ambulance was called within seconds of assessing the situation and followed it to the hospital, they provided everything needed and then some to the hospital after I arrived and followed up with me several times afterward making sure I was doing well. This emergency would not have been avoided no matter where I gave birth and had nothing to do with this birthing center or the midwives overseeing my child's birth. I do believe however, if I was at a hospital I would not have received the attention or care Christina, Joyce and Hali provided. POSTPARTUM I have had a well woman's exam postpartum and my IUD placed by Christina. This was my second IUD but I felt absolutely no pain at all. The first IUD was placed at an OBs office and was absolutely the worst experience in my life. I told Christina my story and she assured me she knew what she was doing and that the pain would be minimal, if any. I didn't believe her, and was so scared and visibly shaking during my appointment. She listened to my concerns and never once tried to downplay my feelings. She walked me through everything she was doing. I didn't feel anything, she had to tell me she was done and it was placed. They have done a great job updating the exam rooms and overall interior of the office/building. It doesn't look like my mothers birthing center. OVERALL EXPERIENCE If I could have another out of hospital birth, I would go back to Family Centered Maternity Care and have Christina catch my baby. read more

My wife and I wanted to share our amazing experience, giving birth to our first child and how special it turned out. We had visited another birthing center in Dallas how ever it was not very inviting so we chose to try another. Little did we know that we had a birthing center 5 minutes away from home *huge plus, and we did not regret giving them a try. We called the next day an made an appointment with Joyce. When we got to our appointment we were greeted by Joyce with a huge smile, the waiting area was very nice and felt like home. Joyce explained the whole process in detail and made sure that I was also comfortable with the idea of a natural birth. She made sure all our questions were answered and told us we could call back if anything else came up. My wife and I knew after our orientation that we had found the right place to give birth to our baby girl. So that same day we booked our first visit with Joyce and started this new journey with the Family Centered Maternity Care. Through out my wife's pregnancy Joyce was very helpful and gave us a lot of great tips and advice to help make the experience just that much better. Closer to our due date we came across a small hick up but Christina stepped in to assist and correct the situation. Christina was also amazing, she went the extra mile to make sure that my wife's needs were met but also insured that we were informed of possible outcomes should things get complicated. Along the way we also met Jenna and Robin, they also were a huge help, and assisted with several check ups and calming us down when things got a little tough. A week and a half before my wife was due, we called in to check on a few things as my wife was getting pretty big and it was only our baby girl coming not twins... so we went in for a sonogram to confirm it was just one... and then we were given a couple of options as to which direction to take.. so we chose to deliver early!!! Christina and Jenna made sure we were prepared for what was coming, first baby a lot of things go through your mind especially me as a husband, all I wanted to do was protect my little family. Finally the day came, my wife went into labor, even though the odds were stacked against us, Christina didn't give up on us, she has a huge support for us and was very very patient. Robin called my wife a true warrior, several odds stacked against here but she was determined to have our baby girl at this birthing center it was the one, we did not want to go anywhere else. After 12 1/2hrs of peaceful and beautiful labor our baby Jimena arrived at 11:35pm Oct. 15. Thanks to these 3 amazing, talented and patient midwifes and the help of God, everything came out great. Our princess was born healthy little to no complications, and she was chubby!!! Thank you soooo much Christina for not giving up on us, Jenna for holding our hand every step of the way, and Robin for calming us down, and making sure my daughters birth went as smoothly as it did, and Joyce for making that first impression count, without it we wouldn't of stayed and gave your birthing center a try. We will definitely see each other again, once Jimena is ready for a little brother or sister. This was my first choice in care. My last birth, six years ago, was in Richardson at lovers lane birthing center. Even though I received good care there, this facility was closer and that's what really mattered to me. The first time that I came for a tour I met Joyce and did a walk through with some other new expectant women. Then my husband and I decided to follow through and I sure am glad that we did! My first few visits were with Robin, I had a couple with Joyce and finally some with Christina- and her happy little helper Cohen! (: Last time I gave birth, I was acquainted with mainly one midwife and was a little thrown when it came time to deliver and actually gave birth with another midwife, so I am glad to have met with all of the midwives so that when the time came, even if someone was ill or unavailable I felt familiar with everyone! My delivering midwife was Christina, Robin was also there, alongside some students Rebecca and Jenna. I didn't know Jenna very well and had only met her once beforehand but when the day came I was very grateful to have such a sweet caring helper there for me and my family! This pregnancy, I felt very taken care of and informed, Joyce and Robin offered so many natural helpful tips sprouted from many years experience and Christina, being an experienced midwife and new mother herself gave me a peaceful feeling of camaraderie! All of the midwives were very adamant about my birth plan and when the time came they stuck to it to a tee, as much as possible. When my daughter was born she swallowed some meconium and was unable to breathe. I am incredibly grateful that these amazing women were there to get it out and get my little one breathing normally! They helped provide an amazing experience and healthy happy little baby for me and my family! Also on another note they just redecorated and the place looks amazing. Plus, Linda the receptionist is the best and so hardworking! She goes above and beyond to help in anyway she can especially when communicating with the midwives on one's behalf! The administrator Linda is a disaster. Joyce claimed she could be PCP, but now we're paying thousands more uselessly for insurance we cannot use with Family Centered Maternity Care. Linda is unprofessional, disorganized, rude and never present in the office to address billing discrepancies. She will patch together a bill when she can't get it right - a lawsuit waiting to happen. Linda is a terrible communicator and began blowing up our phones just as labor started because she neglected to enter the insurance information correctly, which we are now paying out of pocket, an unnecessary stress. Skip this service, and find someone more scrupulous for your special day. read more

I am going to be very honest. This place is a great place to have a traditional, drug free labor. However, the staff seem very unorganized and scattered. When we came for an orientation the person leading it was unprepared. She stated that six couples RSVPd, but she only had enough chairs for four couples. Her reason being she was not sure who would show up. So, we basically scrunched up on the couch & then she finally got more chairs. Secondly, the receptionist forgets to tell you what to do when you walk in. She forgets to ask for medical cards and other items. You will be called five or six days later to email a picture of whatever she forgot to get from you. It's as if she cannot focus and articulate what she needs at that moment. You will also, have to wait in the lobby for a midwife. A thirty minute appointment takes one hour. The office is very chaotic and unorganized. You will be asked questions you already took the time to fill out on their massive questionnaire you filled out days ahead online. As if no one took the time to review it, before you came. I signed up for the services. This place has gone downhill. Christina was very RUDE! We never had one mid-wife through the process. We were shuffled between constantly between Joyce, Robin, and Christina depending on availability. By the birth, I had only met with Christina once and not developed any professional relationship. She doesn't know how to use do basic procedures like use a thermometer or membrane sweep. Christina spent 90 minutes constantly on the phone with Joyce to advise her through what to do next. The lack of experience ruined what could have been a joyous moment into a stressful one. I am so glad I prepared for the birth more than the mid-wife or it would have been a disaster. read more

Went today for our 2 week check up. It was unreal to walk around where I had my child. I took lots of pictures to remember the sacred birth center while Christina had another appointment! They did the heel prick, no problem. They weighed her and checked everything else. She also checked on me, made sure I'm healing well, and no depression. I was so heartbroken, wasn't looking forward to my appt because I thought today was going to be bye forever to my wonderful midwives. But she reassured me we can see each other again! They are not just midwives, they are nurses too. She said I could come back for paps, birth control, respiratory infections, etc. It's not just good riddance, good bye after the baby. I was SO happy to hear that! I truly love this place. I have always said I want 3 of my own, 1 adopted. But I may have 4 of my own and one adopted - just to give myself the amazing experience here again. read more

IF IT WASN'T FOR HER MY WIFE'S PREGNANCY AND BIRTH WOULD NOT HAVE GONE AS SMOOTHLY OR AS SAFELY AS IT DID. THOSE PEOPLE OBVIOUSLY HAD A ROUGH PREGNANCY AND ARE LOOKING TO BLAME SOME ONE******* My wife and I were a bit apprehensive about going to this birthing center opposed to the Allen birthing center where we had our second baby. But after my wife giving birth at Family Centered Maternity Care with the help of Christina, I wish we had all of our babies here!!!! All of the mid-wives are soooo knowledgeable! Many of them do not only have background in midwifery but also medical degrees. My wife usually has minor complications that we addressed with Christina. She helped us to make a plan of ways we can prepare to avoid those issues both before, during and after the birth. Because of this plan we were able to avoid so many issues we had struggled with before. It's true that it is a smaller facility then most, but for us it felt so much more private and made us feel close to the wonderful ladies at Family Centered Maternity Care. I transferred to FCMC a little later in my pregnancy but am very happy I did. Everyone at FCMC are extremely helpful and respect your wishes as a parent to be. I must have called a hundred times and Linda was always sweet and kind enough to answer every single question in detail. The tour is also amazing as you get to see first hand where you will be birthing and have time to ask every question you may need answered. I can't say enough about the midwives working here, all of the midwives treated me wonderfully and the appointment time is lengthy so you aren't ushered out after 15 minutes. Child friendly as well so there is never a worry that you can't bring your older or other children with you. I am so happy to have had Christina and Joyce as my midwives, I am not sure how I could have delivered my bundle of joy without either of their help. read more

I'm very happy with FCMC! It was a great experience to receive prenatal care, give birth, and receive postnatal care there. They really respect your feelings and wishes and give you a calm and serene environment to birth in. I would especially recommend Nicole and Robin, they are both exceptionally calm and respectful, but all the midwives are good. One small annoyance was that they are often running late and you have to wait up to an hour at appointments, but the upside is that this is because they really spend time with you at the appointment and address all your concerns.
