This office is disgusting, it has a strong unclean odor. Each staff member I've encountered has been unprofessional. The office manager is rude, I just witnessed her berating another employee for asking a question about transferring a clients records. The care is inconsistent I'm here for my second cleaning and after the first one I was told I had 10 cavities INSANE. I came back for fillings and it was a different dentist that said I have no idea what she was talking about you have 2 very small ones between your teeth. The first dentist made me feel absolutely disgusting throwing out that number just to have another man in the same office tell me he doesn't see that. The first also saying I'd need mouth numbing and the second saying the cavities are so small he didn't even use numbing! Depending on the person you get you may very well be scammed. When the dental assistants are taking x-rays they're having personal conversations right over top of you. Employees walk through the office BELTING song lyrics in a way that's just not appropriate for an office setting. My appointment was for 3pm I arrived at 2:48 and it's now 4:09 and I've only just been moved to an exam room. They will have two dentists in and schedule 10 people for the exact same appointment time. There's no regard for your time. I walked into Family Dental already worn down from weeks of pain. A broken filling in my wisdom tooth had left a razor sharp edge that sliced my tongue every time I swallowed, talked, or even breathed too deeply. I was exhausted, swollen, and desperate for relief. Instead, I walked straight into a nightmare. When I arrived, there were only two people in the waiting area -- one of them just waiting for someone else. Yet, I sat there for over 30 minutes, completely ignored. The three receptionists saw me walk in, but none of them acknowledged me. They continued chatting casually about food and shopping while I sat there in pain, tongue throbbing, wishing I had remembered my Orajel. After half an hour of waiting, I finally went to the desk to ask how much longer it would be. Only then did someone tell me I was "next." Right as I turned to sit back down, they suddenly remembered to hand me the paperwork -- something I should've received the moment I walked in. Nearly 40 minutes had passed at that point. Once I was finally called back, the dental assistant took X rays and told me the dentist would be in shortly. As she walked out, I overheard her ask where he was and another staff member casually replied, "He just went on break." I was stunned. I had already waited an extended amount of time, in pain I might add, and now the dentist was taking a break? I thought to myself, "Good grief." When Dr. Vivek Buddha eventually walked in -- approximately 20 minutes later -- he didn't greet me, introduce himself, or ask why I was there. He didn't review the X rays. He didn't ask about my symptoms. He didn't even look at the tooth I was pointing to. The first thing he said was to tell the assistant to prepare an extraction kit. No explanation. No conversation. Nothing. I asked if the tooth could be rebuilt. He gave me a blunt, emotionless "no." That was it. I asked for topical numbing before the injection. He applied it, stuck the Q tip between my gum and cheek, and walked out again. He was out of my area for at least 15 minutes, long enough for it to wear off. By the way, the patient area is open. Privacy is not optional there. When he returned, he still didn't examine my tooth. I tried to get him to look at it, but that was about it. He didn't test it, didn't ask me what was hurting or anything. He proceeded to numbed the wrong area and when I told him I felt pain, he insisted it was "just pressure." It wasn't. It was sharp, electric pain shooting through my jaw. When he started pulling, I felt everything. Just so you can understand, there was no tooth in the area he started at. There were only roots in my gum as the top portion of that tooth had broken off years ago. The roots were not bothering me and were not my major concern. I tried to tell him this, but he ignored me. I was there for the jagged wisdom tooth, which he did not touch. I cried loudly. I screamed. I begged him to stop repeatedly. I said "stop" over and over. He ignored my pleas. He kept going. His grip slipped more than once, slamming into my upper teeth so hard I felt the shock through my skull. I nearly passed out from the pain. He never paused, never reassessed, never acknowledged anything I said. He just kept insisting I was only feeling "pressure." I wasn't. I was feeling raw, unbearable pain because he never numbed the correct area. When it was finally over, he offered no apology, no explanation, and barely spoke. When I asked for pain medication, he said, "I already sent it to CVS," in a tone that made it sound like I was inconveniencing him. I left in shock -- physically hurting, emotionally shaken, and deeply disturbed by how dismissive and careless the entire experience was. This was, without question, the most unprofessional and painful dental visit I have ever had. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but this office has wasted my time for the last time. I hadn't been here in a couple of years and hoped things would have improved, but unfortunately, nothing has changed. My appointment was scheduled for 9:00 AM on Saturday, January 30, for a routine cleaning. I arrived at 8:54 AM. There were two people ahead of me at the front desk, so I wasn't officially checked in until 9:03 AM. At 10:14 AM, I was called back to the desk, thinking I was finally being taken back. Instead, I was asked if I had completed paperwork that day. I said no, because during my visit two months earlier for a wisdom tooth extraction referral, I was explicitly told I would not need to complete any additional paperwork for this cleaning. I was then sent back to the waiting area and told I'd be called shortly. I wasn't taken to the back until 10:48 AM. At that point, I was told X-rays would be done, despite the fact that I had already had X-rays taken recently for the extraction referral. When I questioned it, I was essentially told they were being done just because. Around 16 X-rays were taken. At that point, I didn't want to argue--I just wanted my teeth cleaned and to leave. By 11:18 AM, I still hadn't seen the dentist. When she finally did come in, the actual cleaning took no more than 15 minutes. I was finished by 11:45 AM. Nearly three hours for a routine cleaning that took less than 20 minutes is unacceptable. Save yourself the inconvenience and consider going elsewhere if you can. read more

I NEVER leave reviews or even complain because I work in healthcare and I understand how hard it is to run on time somedays BUT my appointment was scheduled for a Saturday and I even confirmed I would be there. I showed up to my 12:30 appointment 10 minutes early, filled the paperwork out ahead of time so there would be no issues. I sat in that waiting room until 2:10 with no update if I was going to be seen (mind you they "close" at 2). I asked the lady in the front what was going on and her response was "‍" .. the lady that came in a little before 2 was taken back before me. I didn't cause a scene, I was very patient but my time is valuable and I had other things to do so I had to cancel my appointment. Now I have to find somewhere else to go because this place is so understaffed I don't even wanna go back and endure this disrespect again. I sat there and watched the front desk lady "the one with curly blondish hair with the MAMA BEAR shirt on" give attitude to every person that walked in, throw papers at her co-workers, rolling her eyes and even telling a patient "what can I help you with? I'm busy". I mean if you hate your job just say that.. I come here every 6 months for a cleaning and have had all great experiences. My husband has another dental office he goes to that never answered the phone to get him scheduled to have three teeth pulled. Husband took me to my appointment and to our surprise, they accepted him as a walk in and gave him full treatment. Pulled them and scheduled him for further procedures. So the doctor seemed to feel a certain way because I'd had work done also at Spencer Dental. lol I was supposed to have my dental work done with them but again they rescheduled me twice and I had an appointment still with Spencer so why wouldn't I use that appointment to get fillings? I'd had nothing but bad luck with Family Dental. He something like so they can do your other work but not the scaling? I said yes but you all were supposed to do the work but I got rescheduled. Plus Spencer can't do it until January. That's why I came to Family Dental!!! So he was asking in a nasty way lol...it was childish for an older grown man to say the least. I just can't believe the behavior from these people. I just know I will never go back and I do mean never. I still don't think they had my record pulled up from when I was there on March 25th 2024 where I never heard anything about Cigna etc. He said my tooth that needed a filling wasn't marked. I have one left that Spencer will do but he didn't even see it and the doctor I saw prior mentioned that tooth as one she was going to fill smh...when I left as I said in my last review I called Medicaid and they didn't see anything about Cigna. I called back to speak to Yvonne and she basically repeated what she'd said before and while she was talking I hung up on her. While I seriously don't like to be immature or childish it gave me the greatest satisfaction. Do not go here. I don't remember her name because she talked fast and sped through everything, even when she introduced herself but she is a terrible dentist. She rushes and barely explains anything. She refers to you as "my love" to mask how rude and uncaring she is. She did a crown for me and rushed through it to the point she didn't even try to shape it and left plaster (or whatever it's called) on my gums. I came back the next day because I felt like something was wrong. She wasn't there and thankfully another dentist fixed it. My husband and I had 10am & 11am appointments scheduled on 6/22/24 (and confirmed the day before). We arrived around 9:35 & the office was not open. The lady in the car beside us she had an appointment too. At 10:00 I called the office & got a voicemail, I left a voicemail letting them know we were here for our appointments. The other lady left then so did we. We shopped at Target then rode back by the office around 11:00 or so and the office was still closed. If you're not open on Saturdays you shouldn't advertise it and allow patients to book appointments. I'm sure the 10+ patients waiting for walk in appointments would appreciate it too especially since it's 90° at 10am. read more

If I could give no stars, I would! This place is horrible! The front desk staff are some of the rudest most disrespectful people I have encounteres in some time. They talk to patients like they are beneath them and they talk AT you instead of to you and dont try asking questions, they are impatient and just down right nasty! I also suspect they could be cheating patients out of their money as Ive encountered several incidents where they force elderly people to pay for services in cash eventhough their insurance has covered services. If they do not pay,.they withhold their dentures. I suspect they treat patients this way because most are on medicaid and medicare and they dont expect them to know their rights and file complaints. I intend to file a complaint to have them investigated under suspicion of medicaid fraud. The manager of the office is even worse so its no surprise that the staff would act the way they do. Ive seen her walk away from patients several times in the middle of them asking questions and never come back. If I could give zero stars I would. Where do I start? This place is a honest to God nightmare. Just so unprofessional and all they give is bad feelings from their narcissistic smug attitudes to i just don't give a damn what you're saying. I first went in after so many years because Spencer Dental schedules so far out for deep cleanings for adults and Family Dental could see me sooner. The receptionist attitude was great and I was scheduled for an exam the next week. Went in had X-rays and was a scheduled to come back for a deep cleaning and possibly fillings. I went in for my appointment and was told after about 10 minutes that the doctor I was supposed to see wasn't in but they were working everyone in asap or did I want to reschedule. I rescheduled because honestly I didn't want to put others out because a doctor didn't come to work an it wasn't a big deal. So I was rescheduled for the following week. Went in sat down and they came out to tell everyone they were having technical difficulties and if you want to reschedule you can but they were working on it. Some people decided to reschedule but of course I wanted to wait. About 10-15 minutes later they said we can't do such and such but a guy was coming out to fix the problem but we had to reschedule. So yes I was frustrated and I did express that but not in a disrespectful way. It was honestly in a way as if to say I'll wait. I knew they didn't cause the problem and I even said so, that I knew that but put yourself in my shoes (this is the 2nd week) one receptionist said, "she better leave and the office manager Yvonne said, "Why?" Shane looked at her and balled her mouth up and shook her head as if to say because I'm about to hurt her. I didn't curse didn't address anyone directly, I didn't accuse anyone as what happened is their fault so as an adult in a professional setting that was a bad look. But this is what this place represents to people who come in for care that dont have many alternatives for lower cost and with Medicaid. So I was told that someone would call me after the situation was repaired and I could come in later that day. I said oh thats great. No one called and I called back later the next day to reschedule. when I did one of the receptionists that was actually professional and patient remembered me and she scheduled me. We talked and I actually apologized if my frustrations upset anyone and reiterated that I knew it was not their fault I said I just felt jinxed an we laughed and talked. Today I returned and was called almost immediately. A tech was about to do X-rays he said 18 pictures. I said again and he said yep. i explained I'd already had X-rays and what I was there for. Apparently they were looking at something old from when I was there in 2018 cause he asked if the last time I was there did I have an extraction. No I didn't have that. He couldn't find anything from my prior visit so he went to go get the office manager, Yvonne. She asked me a few questions and took my ID and insurance card again. She told him to not do anything until they go through which is just so rude and unprofessional that I can't believe this behavior is allowed in front of patients. They don't know the word discreet. No other office that would be so ratchet or ghetto. I'm sorry to go there but this is what they represent to me. So she came back with a piece of paper and she said is this you and pointed to my name and dob. I said yes and then she showed me that Medicaid also had Cigna down as a carrier and that I may be liable for the bill because my insurance may only pay a portion or something like that. I explained that I hadn't heard anything about this the last couple of years that I've been going to the dentist. Everything has been paid by Medicaid. She said she has to relay what corporate gives her which I understand. But honestly I think they snatch up whatever is in the system because that was so old. Anyway I said I can call them now. She said wait no you can't. She slowly said in the most narcissistic way, without even looking at me in the eye (because this is what people do when they know they're about to be inappropriate) don't call them because this....is....my....chair. She said it slow and smoothly to let me know she is the boss and you will not do what I don't allow. I don't know if she realized she was dealing with a grown adult woman of 48 or not. The position she's in has her and those around her believing she's more powerful then she is. I did respect that though because that's the type of person I am and I'm only looking to get work done not to be a bad ass or cause trouble. Believe me I could have popped off but it doesn't accomplish anything but delay in my procedure or more bad feelings that she was already causing that I'd have to carry. This place is a bit of a mixed bag. This clinic caters to low income, medicaid, and medicare patients. As such, it provides a much needed service in a field where most clinics shun the impoverished in favor of bigger insurance cash-outs from the private sector. They tend to be booked months in advance, but if you ask nicely and have reason, they will do their best to accommodate earlier visits. Also the work done is generally very good. I have yet to receive any lectures about my teeth and my work has been mostly focused on the positive rather than the negative outlook of my health. The doctors are knowledgeable and thorough. The only real downside is that it runs a little bit like an old time DMV. The waits are horrendous. I tend to try and show up about fifteen minutes before my appointment. I have cancelled appointments with other businesses that were scheduled months in advance in order to insure that I am on time for fairly last minute opportunities here (still on the books for days however), only to find that I am forced to wait for an hour or more past my appointment time. I have never had an appointment that was picked up as scheduled. It might not seem like much, but it is clear that my personal time has next to no value within this place. The waiting area is kind of a free for all. Rude people chatter on their cell phones, talk loudly, even eat. I've never seen anyone asked to take their untimely business outside so the rest of us can sit in misery, but peace, as we wait to see when our scheduled appointments will be honored. I can feel myself getting older sometimes as I wait. That time will never come back. It's way more expensive than any procedure. So, plan ahead for your procedures. Expect a month or two ahead before making an appointment. Then, plan to wait at least an hour past your appointment when you arrive. Sometimes, more like two or more hours of waiting after sign in. You have to be on the premises in order to be counted as present. My advice to the company would be to honor the appointments at the time they are made. I understand the desire to make sure no doctor is waiting on a patient, but showing up on time only to be four or five patients behind is really discouraging. Also, tell rude customers to take their business outside. There is no reason to make the wait so miserable. read more

I highly do not recommend this dental office. I had an appointment at 10 am this morning. I arrived at 9:50 and completed all of the necessary paperwork. Then I sat. And sat. And sat. ONE HOUR after my scheduled appointment time I was called to the desk and they gave me my "treatment plan" for the day. When I asked how much longer I would be waiting because I had to work in Norfolk at 12:30, the front desk offered to give me an appointment at NINE AM THE NEXT DAY. That is not how appointments work. If I would have arrived to my appointment an hour late they would have turned me away AND charged me a fee. My time is just as important as anyone else's, and the desk made it plainly obvious that my time is not important to them. Please do not go to this office unless you have all the time in the world and you don't abhor waiting on other people. Especially if you had a scheduled appointment. What a disaster. read more

My appointment was at 1:15. I did not get back into the room until 330. The staff members made it very clear that some of the employees there are being lazy and not doing their job. I had to get one tooth pulled out and it honestly seems like that is all they want to do is just pull teeth instead of fixing them anyway, I did not get my mouth numbed completely. I told them I still felt pain and nothing was done about it. The lady that was holding the water And suction tube was not even looking at what she was doing. She had the tools in my mouth, but her eyes were literally closed and she was looking up away from me multiple times. The actual Dentist I had to keep repeatedly, asking her to do stuff even went as far as taking the suction tube out of her hand and doing it himself. I am somebody with a very high pain tolerance and have had dental work done before multiple times a different location and I'm covered in tattoos. Getting teeth pulled Without them being numbed is the worst pain I've ever felt. I will never go back in that building. I went in the fist appt. With my sons on January 4 2021, and it was set up socially distant, cleaned sanitation 101 was on point appreciate it. Returned back to have procedures done 2 weeks later and Dr. Buddha extracted teeth omg. Let's say I'm not an easy dental patient, just keep me pain free. I made an appt on-line as a New Patient about 3 months ago , because it was the first available in 3 months, . I had no contact from them until the day of the appt, stating that they close at 4p.m, even though the online portal allowed me to schedule for 5p.m. when I asked why I couldn't have receive a call earlier , Shelly advised they cant see the appointments on-line until the same day. The website state 6p.m closing, and it allowed me o schedule for 5p.m. I asked Shelly, if I could speak to an Office Manager she took my number and promised a call back. After receiving no callback I contacted the business again and got Shelly who advised the Office Manage was out on an emergency and she wasn't sure when she would be back . Oh my goodness. Rudest receptionist ever. Antique equipment including the patient's chair with a rip down the middle. Staff got mad when I informed them the correct size equipment to use to obtain good film without pain. After doing it their way, and nicking my cheek, they went with the right size. The abcess I had was huge and they gave me little of no concern other than take this and you need root canalS. I got a second opinion. Received proper antibiotics, and had ONE root canal. read more

I also love their hours as many work unusually hours so they are open to many who can see them after they get off work ...! An they take walk-ins ...! The first time I ever came it was super fast visit and everyone was really friendly. I'm here now for my second visit.. Appointment was at 3pm I came 15 mins early I waited in lobby for 40 mins . One man came in after me and was called back within 10 minutes along with another patient who had been there longer than me. Than after he went back I was called. I was talked about what I was having done by dental assistant . It's now 4pm and a dentist still has not seen me . More than an hour wait for cleaning and checkup. Ridiculous . I would not recommend this dental office. My appointment was at 10AM and I sat for an hour for them to try and charge me to fill a cavity they filled a couple months prior. I keep up with my dental work so I questioned the procedure and no one had any answers and looked very confused. I was told the Dentist would explain why I needed to get the fillings done over and the Dentist sent in her assistant instead to explain it. I heard her explaining to the assistant that I didn't have to do it if I didn't want to. WHAT!!! I don't even know what's going on. I was diagnosed without anything being explained to me she even changed my treatment plan without explaining. This was the most unprofessional Dentist/Doctor I've ever encountered. What Dentist makes a treatment plan without reviewing it with a patient. Also what Dentist refuses to talk to a patient even when they have an appointment. If I could give 0 stars I would; however, this review is no reflection on the receptionists who were professional and courteous during all my phone calls and interactions with them. BEWARE: anyone thinking it might be nice to get a routine cleaning/exam on a Saturday to avoid taking leave (they don't have) from a brand-new job during the work week. This was me, and my horrible experience began with an appointment rescheduled the evening before at the office's request (from 11:30AM to 11AM) on a Saturday, which then only began almost two full hours later when I was finally asked back to the exam room (no explanation for the wait). The x-rays were standard, but no high-tech equipment as I've seen at my longtime dentist. The cleaning was hardly that (and lasted about 3 minutes), and the dentist never introduced himself or said anything about my mouth except brief mention of a unique tooth he noticed in the x-ray and at least 6 cavities. After that 30-second exchange, he mentioned that the receptionist would set up appointments and explain the treatment plan and costs. In over 20 years of routine dental cleanings and extensive root canal and crown work to reconstruct my unique tooth after a bike accident, I have had 1 cavity. Suddenly, since my last exam in November 2017, I've developed 6?! This seemed suspicious, so I got a second opinion from my longtime dentist. I'm so glad I did. He explained that it is a very aggressive dental practice (I interpreted this to mean "money-grubbing") to fill cavities when they are so tiny as to almost not be visible on x-rays (as mine were). In fact, he said that he has had one that tiny for over 10 years. Then he described how he would have to remove almost 1/5 of the tooth in order to do a proper filling. As you can imagine, this would be most painful and time-consuming as well as UNNECESSARY. Many of these "cavities" will stay tiny with proper flossing and limited sugar consumption, routine brushing, etc. So, the only reason I can imagine a dentist telling a patient she needs 6 fillings (when she really DOESN'T) is that it's an easy way to run an insurance scheme (as I have great coverage, fortunately). I have not always had dental coverage and imagine some people thinking about visiting this practice would be in the same position. Imagine how costly that would be! As a side note: of the 8-10 patients who checked out with the receptionist during my 2-hour wait, every single person (including young children) was being rescheduled for extensive dental work -- bridges, crowns, fillings, root canals, etc. This is only further evidence that this place is a money-making scam intent on saddling patients or their insurance companies with massive fees for unnecessary treatments, when the best "treatment" would probably be to hand out floss and toothbrushes and toothpaste and encourage good habits and sugary drink avoidance. DO NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. (I could get into how dirty and dingy the exam rooms are, but I think that's unnecessary given that the bigger issue is that this place is willing to put people in vast amounts of pain, conduct unnecessary procedures, and make lots of money off patients and/or their insurance companies.) read more
