DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE GOING HERE - READ REVIEWS ONLINE Maybe reconsider? There are lots of dermatologists around, and if you don't know any... Start calling. This is a corporation, they don't have time for you here. I went in, paying cash (their favorite kind of client) and not only was I not seen by a dermatologist, they didn't even tell me that Ms.Debroah Hrobak was NOT a dermatologist. She did a biopsy 2/13 and didn't give me any wound care instructions - which may leave me with a 1/4 inch mark on my face. Another friend had something removed on her jaw by Debroah Hrobak (2/13) and they didn't get wound care instructions either. NOT OK. Then to show you how disorganized they are, I paid in full...and two weeks later I get a bill for the same amount I'd already paid. Turns out that despite the conversation I had with the front desk receptionist, where she insisted my total included all lab fees...that my total did NOT include lab fees so I had to pay another $180. When I call they will only talk to me IF I give them my DOB. I work in a very small environment and I don't want all my coworkers to know my DOB. Age is not a good thing in my industry. The fact you can't just give last 4 of social or some code ..is poor business practise, esp. for a dermatology office. IF YOU HAVE HAD BAD CARE HERE SEND A NOTE TO Dr. PAULA NELSON. Do not go to this doctor. Chances are you will be scooped up into a billing scam. Don't be surprised if you get collection notices for things you never approved or if they did not submit proper paper work with the insurance.... they'll just bill you. Google her name in Georgia and in the area and you'll find NUMEROUS complaints about this practice. I am not sure what the reviewer named Jennifer Y. is complaining about. I always have excellent service and professionalism when I go to Family Dermatology. Doctor Nelson is great and their front staff is adorable. I always leave there refreshed, renewed, and beautiful whenever I go in for treatments. Coming from San Diego where there is a world of Dermatologists to choose from, it's nice to know that in such a small town that the level of expertise is beyond what I would expect from a major city. And seriously? You can't give your DOB out while you are sitting in a cubical and you complain about that as part of your frustration or a business. Seems like a personal problem not a Doctor Nelson problem. Do yourself a favor and check out Family Dermatology. Your skin will thank you. read more

First I made an appointment with a dermatologist and when I got there it was Dr Nelson. I asked the front desk about my appointment with the other Dr and they said oh she works across the hall. Ok.......I had a rash, they biopsied the rash in 2 places. Gave me a prescription for creams and sent me on my way. Then they started double billing my insurance company and sending me bills for the amount the insurance company paid. After fighting with their billing department I contacted BCBS and filed a formal complaint against that office. Never received another bill. This practice is shady!!!!! Find someone else. Unethical billing! Visited in October for routine checkup. Received bill for office visit but also a $190 charge for the destruction of a mole. The Dr. never touched me and told me everything was fine. Spoke with Sandra the office mgr who tried to convince me that moles can be removed without a patient knowing?!!? When I assured her nothing was done to me she put me on hold and came back saying they would write off the charge. I asked for a corrected bill and she said she wasn't sure I'd receive one?! 6 months later I'm getting a bill from a billing company with the same bogus charge. I have contacted BCBS and filed a provider relations complaint. Seriously, BEWARE! read more

Had a small procedure done there almost three years ago. No complaints about that. However, almost three years later, I am still dealing with billing problems. My insurance company told me today that Family Dermatology is being investigated for bogus billing practices. The worst part is, when you call their billing office, you must leave a message and they NEVER return your call. You cannot talk to anyone. Very frustrating. Stay away. read more

If I could enter a negative rating, I would! Exam was less that thorough, exam notes reflected wrong information, indicated certain exams were performed and they were not. Dr. failed to ask important questions such as current medications and allergies. Billing nightmare! Dr. agreed to call prescription into pharmacy. Pharmacy notified us they cannot fill it due to federal sanction against doctor. STEER CLEAR and find another doctor! read more

If you want to feel rushed, uninformed and overcharged, then this is the place to go. Worse medical experience ever. The Exeter office was convenient, which was the main reason for visiting them. Didn't get a warm feeling when I arrived, receptionists looked overworked. Waiting room was jammed. Had 10 minutes with the Ms. Nelson, which felt rushed. A few weeks after my visit, I received a bill totaling $975, which felt high. Some of that amount was reduced since by Aetna, since the practice is a network provider. The big problem is the practice then sends me a bill for the unreimbursed amounts Aetna didn't pay or removed from claim as not eligible for reimbursement. This is balance billing, which is illegal in PA for any network plan provider. I attempted to contact the billing department at least 10 times by phone and email to reconcile the bill; no reply. Received a collections notice last week, 2 yrs later. You get the picture. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

Recently had an excision done by Dr. Nelson in the Laurys station office, and I wish I had done otherwise. Coming from a medical background, it completely blew my mind that my vitals (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate) were not taken prior to the procedure. Instead I was given a lollipop. I'm assuming this was to help maintain blood sugar levels, however cannot truly be sure because it was not explained to me. If I would have passed out on the table, they would have no baseline vital signs to compare against. This could have been a very scarey, and potentially detrimental, situation. The nurse (I'm assuming she was a nurse because she never introduced herself to me) used lidocaine to numb me up, rubbed iodine on my side, and then left me lying on my side on the table for 20 minutes while she "looked for the doctor." Very irritating and very unprofessional. When Dr. Nelson came into the room she did not introduce herself to me. Simply asked if I had an questions and started cutting. Did not explain the procedure nor explain what I should expect during or after the excision. I asked her if I could get the area wet and she told me that I would get wound care instructions after the procedure (however I never did, which seems to be congruent with previous reviews on this site). When asked if I could go on the elliptical after the procedure I was told no, however I could do squats. Again (coming from a medical background) squats are not an appropriate alternative to the aerobic exercise of running on an elliptical. As Dr. Nelson was leaving the room she told me to go back in 4 weeks and to take Tylenol for pain. That was the extent of her instructions for me. Luckily, I am well versed in the type of bandage that was applied to my surgical site, however the nurse (or whatever she was) seemed to not be. She applied it incorrectly, and then did not cover the primary dressing with a secondary dressing. By the time I got home, my bandage was fully soaked through and my undershirt was saturated with blood. All in all, the staff at Family Dermatolgy is very unprofessional, and I will not be returning. Their normal practice guidelines and safety awareness are poor. If you are looking for a reason to begin a lawsuit, this is the place for you. Otherwise, for the safety of your family and youself, stay far away. read more

Go somewhere else! There are plenty of practices in Berks County with integrity , find an honest staff. Our insurance covered more then a thousand dollars in procedures but their out of pocket office visit rate of $260 was outrageous. Don't believe a word out of the mouths of their office clerks who make big promises. This is a large firm with out of state billing with no regard for your concerns. There are plenty of dermatologists out there, pass this one up! read more

Worst practice ever. Three years ago, my husband was scolded for not speaking up after he'd sat in the waiting room without being called for an hour past his appointment time, and then was treated to perfunctory service. Three years later, we got a bill for $286 -- followed immediately by a notice that our case had been turned over to a collections agency!! When I protested, they said, without apology, "oh yeah, thousands of bills were sent out in error. Just ignore it." Appalling! read more

This business does not deserve any stars. And SOOOOOOOO true that the positive comments on here are employees or as I know personally friends of employees. This practice is so unprofessional, many untrained pretend staff working there and performing procedures they should not be. I do not recommend this practice or Dr Nelson to ANYONE!!! They overcharge, double charge and you will not get satisfactory service at any Family Dermatology. And DO NOT believe any of the positive posts, they are just trying to help the business get out of the trouble they are in! !! Family Derm is so desperate for good reviews they have employees and employees friends writing fake positive reviews. They sell procedures they cannot supply. And the front desk/laser girl is doing illegal procedures on patients with no credentials. PLEASE if don't believe check out the news stations and check out the reports, from both PA and Georgia, the hometown of Dr. NELSON. Billing nightmare! Please do yourself a favor and do not go here. Our 1 year old had a rash and we took her here for a diagnosis in July of 2014. We were told it was bug bites and paid the $120 bill for the 5 minute visit. Now, a year and a half later we are still fighting additional bills that were sent to us. read more

I had billing problems with this office too. The sent me to collection for bill they told me was being written by their office. The don't return phone calls and the office staff is like talking to a wall. They are no help. The even locked the office door while I and another gentleman was there to keep people out that were coming in about their billing complaints. The office manager, Donna, was to call me back the next day about my issue. Two weeks later, no call. Run from this service. Nothing but problems. read more

I wish I had seen all of these reviews before I started going to this practice. My original dermatologist left the practice and now I know why. I am suddenly getting bills from 2010 because they never submitted these bills to my secondary insurance and I never knew it. Now they want payment and have already sent my bills to a collection agency. Try calling their billing department in Georgia to get things straightened out, and you will get put on eternal hold. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau in the hopes that other people do not go through this hell. Stay away! read more

Made an appointment to see a DOCTOR recommended by my family physician - appointment proceeded with a nurse, who did not inform me a doctor would not be seeing me. The nurse excised three lesions, did not do the full body review that had been done regularly by my dermatologist in Abbington, PA, gave me no wound care instructions, and never called a doctor in. Subsequently, I received a bill for over $800 (it may have started out higher) and have been receiving bills and dunning notices since the visit, which ocurred on 3/19/2012. The national billing department hangs up on you if you want to calmly dispute a bill. Over $800 for about 20 minutes with a nurse with no full body examination!! I have requested that the local billing office notify the credit bureaus that this is a disputed bill. I'm also considering contacting the state agency which oversees this type of doctor. I use to go to this practice years ago and the Doctor that i saw left. I now know why. I am 35 years old and have had eczema my entire life. Went to see Michele Parkhill today because my eczema is out of control right now. Was brought back to the room and she was there texting away. So when she came in the room i explained my problem to her. she looked at it for 1 second and tried to tell me i dont have eczema. I had to remind her that her office did a bioposy two years ago to make sure and it was and that I have had it for 35 years. So she told me about some cream to try. Every time i have had flare ups i get an injection in the sight to calm it down and stop the itching. I aksed about that that she said she doesnt do that. That is a last restore and that it is not good to inject into fat. Well thanks, i might not be a size 0 but i am not fat and i dont think hands and ankles and feet can be that fat. So she walked out the room and when i left guess what she was doing... texting and laughing. Glad i spent 45 dollars for 10 minutes of nothing.. currently looking for new dermatologist. read more

All the positive reviews must be from employees. Smh. I have visited this office 3 times each time was with a different dr/pa. Dr nelson does not have time for you and insults her nurses right in front of you. Michelle sealed to be stuck up she came In and left just that quick. Come to find she was talking to one nurse about another nurse VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Allow me to paint a picture in my first 5 min there. I walk in to check in at the front desk and the person behind the desk was busy on her tablet sipping on a drink. Took her a few moments to notice I was standing there. The desk was like something you would see next to a homeless persons box. There were papers and food and personal items scattered across the one place ppl like I see. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!! So now On my last visit I took notice that the lady that was behind the desk is now doing laser Treatments? Not on my body that's for sure ? This office seams to be something out of looney toons. If you are to go here BC it is your last resort. Be sure to book with Abby she is nice and doesn't make you feel rushed or awkward. Her nurse either Tanya or taran I can't remember.
