Dr Kandra is so nice and knowledgeable.. she listens carefully to my concerns and always has a plan laid out for me. Scott and Jonathan are great too! They make me feel so special when I come in and are helpful with insurance concerns as well as helping me find new glasses! Ohhh and the glasses!! Can I say the best selection ever!!!! Family Eye Care is a great place for your optometry needs. Since the Connell's retirement, Juliann Kandra has taken over the practice, and she is such a gem. She is incredibly nice and makes you feel comfortable about getting your eyes checked. My four stars are solely directed towards her and her work. If I were to rate my overall experience, I would probably give it three stars. The woman who takes you for pretest before your examination, I forget her name, is slightly rude. For instance, when doing the pressure test, I have a really hard time keeping my eyes open to get an accurate reading. When I went today, she had to retake the test numerous times and I could hear her heavy breathing and annoyance each time, which didn't help an already stressful situation. When she asked me questions, it felt rushed and like her mind was elsewhere. It just made for a stressful experience. Lastly, when ordering contacts or trying to schedule an appointment, it can be a challenge to reach them, and even after leaving a voicemail, sometimes you don't get a call back. Overall, the service of Juliann trumps the lack of customer service from the other workers, which is why I rate it four stars. If they could fix some of the those bumps, Family Eye Care could be really, really great in all aspects. read more

Dr. Kandra was terrific, I'd love for her to be my eye doctor. And the woman who adjusted my glasses was really nice too. But I'm not going back and here's why: The receptionist Tosha was condescending and couldn't be bothered to tell me that they no longer accept my insurance company. She told me that my insurance card was a credit card, and then I was whisked into the back for the usual screening before I saw the doctor. The woman who did the screening before I saw Dr. Kandra didn't seem like she wanted to be there but unlike the receptionist, she was at least trying to be professional about it. By the time I got to see the doctor, I was really wondering what I had gotten myself into. Then, for 15 or 20 minutes, everything was good. I had a patient doctor who explained everything to me, told me what was happening, answered my questions, and didn't give me those awful drops that dilate my pupils. She decided my glasses were crooked and another really nice woman adjusted them. But then it was back to the receptionist who still refused to accept my insurance because my insurance card was a credit card. I showed the group ID number, my member ID number but she had no idea what I was talking about. Then I showed her the number for providers to call and she refused. Then she narrowed her beady little eyes and said "I'll give you ONE DAY and then I'm sending you a BILL!" It was like I was in The Wizard of Oz and The Wicked Witch of the West was calling me "my little pretty." When I left, I still had no idea that since Dr. Kandra took over, they didn't accept my insurance like that practice always has in the past. And about the card, my insurance company uses one card as both the insurance card and a debit card for the copays. It confuses people all the time, but this is the first time someone got actually nasty about it. To sum it up: 5 stars for the doctor and the person who adjusted my glasses, 3 for the woman that did the screening, 1 for the nasty receptionist who left me totally unaware that I was out of network and caused an unnecessary PITA to get the insurance company to reimburse me. This review is long because I want the doctor to have enough information to improve her practice and I hope she can find a better receptionist. But since they don't accept my insurance, I really need to go somewhere else in the future. read more

Ive been going here for years, with zero problems with any staff or the doctor. Everyone's been nice and helpful. A few weeks back i got a call that my appointment needed to be changed due to the doctor not being available, she was on vacation. Okay not huge, I made the appt months ago so things happen. I change it and take the day off work to make it happen as they had no times outside my work hours. which are the normal 8-4. Today, two days before the appt, i was called and advised that the appt needed to be changed. I said uh okay but why? i took the day off work for this and you already changed it once. She said there's nothing I can do. The doctor is stuck out of the country. Youll have to reschedule it. I said This is the 2nd time your office has done this. I took a day off work for this. I cant keep moving it and changing it and taking time off work. its unreasonable to expect that. Isn't there anyone else I can see or do I have to get a new eye doctor. In the most condescending and rude tone I've ever heard from someone She said "Guess you'll have to get a new doctor" and hung up the phone Im honestly floored. It seems consistent with the reviews on here about this same woman. I would NOT recommend this practice and not due to the doctors but the horribly rude staff. Although it appears the doctor has been on a two month vacation as it is. I'll be finding a new doctor with staff that wont hang up the phone on me! UNREAL!!!! read more

First and foremost you should disregard any negative comments about the staff. Scott and Jonathan are super friendly and helpful. They help you from when you first arrive until you walk out the door! Dr. Kandra is very knowledgeable and helped me get the correct prescription I needed. Highly recommend! read more

Great office to deal with all around. Dr. Kandra is really nice and makes you feel super comfortable while there. She took the time to answer all of my questions and explain the change in my script. Her staff has been nothing but friendly and helpful when it comes to scheduling my appointments (even when my crazy work schedule calls for a reschedule), adjusting my glasses and assisting me with orders. They also have these great shop nights where they bring in all kinds of glasses and sunglasses at discounted prices. Wouldn't go anywhere else!! read more

Family Eye Care has been nothing but wonderful to me - especially considering I have had not-so-great experiences with other eye doctor practices in the past. I used to travel from Kennebunk just to go here and now I travel from the Portland area for their excellent service and great staff. I definitely would recommend this practice to anyone! read more

I have been going to this practice since I was a teenager when I lived in Saco. I've never had an issue with them until recently. The new dr, which is the third or fourth one that I have seen there was amazing. She was very kind and seemed to care about her patients. We had a discussion about my current situation and she reassured me that I would never go without contacts. Often times I would not have the money to buy contacts and they would give me a trial pair with no issues. Recently I called the office because I had been without contacts for a month or so. The office informed me that because I owed them 65 $ they would not be able to give me a trial pair. I asked to speak with a manager or the DR. and tried to explain what the Dr had told me. I never received a call. Last Wednesday I called again to explain my situation. This time the young women on the other end was very rude and again denied me contacts because of 65$. I proceeded to Saco from Westbrook where I live to pay them and get some contacts. I have never been treated with such disrespect from the front desk lady. I asked to have the Dr call me and or the manager. I still have not heard back from anyone. Needless to say, they lost a long time patient over 65 $ Thanks for all the help family eye care. I have stuck with you guys over 3 different owners and also losing my files twice. Not to mention the over priced contacts I have always ordered through you. read more

I have been wearing glasses for 25 years and this place is very pricy in my opinion. The facts: eye exam including contact exam and one pair of single vision glasses were $590 at time of appointment. Ok, it was pricy but at the outer limits of price. The kicker was when I returned to pick up the glasses they said they made a math error and it was actually $670! I've been going to Family Eye Care since the early 1980s. The staff is always friendly and professional, and it's generally very easy to get an appointment quite quickly. Dr. Kerry Connell is always willing to take the time to do a thorough exam and answer my questions. I have only purchased one pair of glasses from them, and the price for lenses was competitive - the previous review would be more helpful if the reviewer mentioned the price of his frames (since designer frames can be very expensive). read more
