Left my contacts while on vacation and the company was nice enough to help me get an extra set to last me the rest of my trip!

At a recent exam with my PCP, I was asked when my last eye exam was. After thinking about it, I…read morerealized it was nearly 8 years ago. Despite feeling like I had no issues with my vision, I realized that given I pay for this insurance coverage (and have for the past nearly 6 years) I might as well go to make sure there are no concerns. I looked at my insurance and found Maine Family Eye Care as an in-network provider and in close proximity to my residence. I requested an appointment online and received a phone call a couple business days later to set up an appointment. Luckily, I was able to get an appointment the following day which was extremely convenient. The location itself is super cute and modern. It has a nice bright, open space which is very welcoming. As I walked into the office, I was kindly greeted by the receptionist who happily checked me in and walked me through the paperwork that I had to complete. After completing my paperwork, I was almost instantly called into the back. The woman who took me back assisted in performing a variety of tests which were to be provided to the doctor. The woman was extremely kind and made feel very comfortable and educated about the tests she was performing. After completing several tests, she brought me back to the waiting room to wait for the doctor as they were running behind on this specific day. I was in the waiting room for about another 15 minutes before being brought back to see the doctor. Dr. Elkinson was awesome. He was extremely friendly like the rest of his staff and provided me with a lot of education and tips to help ensure continued good vision in my future. Through my evaluation with the doctor I found out that I had exceptional (20/15) vision. After my evaluation, I had my eyes dilated and was sent back to the waiting room while the solution "did its thing". Unfortunately, my left eye was supper stubborn and required several drops which lengthened my waiting and stay. However, once it finally dilated, I saw Dr. Elkinson one last time and then was sent on my way. Given my exceptional vision, I was told that I probably don't have to come back for another 2-3 years! However, if I ever have any vision issues I will certainly be coming back to Mr. Elkinson as his staff and service was fantastic.

The office staff and Dr. Elkinson were amazing, fabulous and all around wonderful. The selection of frames is great they aren't your run of the mill frames that are just cheaply made they are brand name well-made and fashionable glasses. The equipment used to measure your face for the perfect fit is awesome very high tech so you know you are getting the best and Josh is extremely knowledgeable in your vision plan and gives you several options. Dr. Elkinson was great as well, explains everything that he is doing while examining your eyes, VERY VERY thorough, and I could go on and on and on but it's definitely the best Optometrist office I've EVER been to.

I am so grateful to Casco Bay EyeCare! Last Spring, I had an accident with one of my eyes while…read moreshaving. It was scary, I thought I might lose my vision which was getting blurry and deteriorating in just a couple of weeks. Since I was on Cape Cod dog sitting, I drove up to the Mass Eye and Ear emergency room in Boston. What a shocking disappointment, their ancient equipment looked left over from the Civil War and their ER doctors were literally running from room to room. After that strange appointment, I was more anxious about my vision. Then I thought to call and make an appointment with Casco Bay EyeCare in Portland. I'm a long time independent Medicare agent and have lots of Maine clients who are happy patients there. A week later, with little sleep and stressed out, I drove over three hours for an appointment with Dr. Amy Cyr. I entered their beautiful Old Port offices, hopeless and exhausted. I asked one of the front desk gals for a hug. Dr. Cyr led me into her office which was so clean, her equipment looked brand new and as up to date as could be. Dr. Cyr put me at ease right away and said she could help me. She spent over an hour examining my eyes from every angle, with the latest equipment that Mass Eye and Ear ER did not have! I had one of the worst cases of dry eye Dr. Cyr had ever seen, my eyes were a mess with irritation and thus the blurriness. I left the appointment with hope restored and deep gratitude. I immediately began a daily regimen of preservative-free eye drops in both eyes several times a day, which I continue to this day. My eyes retuned to normal within a week of my appointment with Dr. Cyr. On a follow up visit a few weeks later, I brought a bouquet of flowers for my eye hero, Dr. Amy Cyr and the good gals at the front desk. To me, the team at Casco Bay EyeCare in the Old Port, are eye angels. Thank you, above all, Dr. Cyr and also Kaylin, Liz and Debbie. Thank you.

My two children and I had eye exams here, but our insurance doesn't cover frames just the exams…read more After I told them that I would be purchasing glasses online because there was no way I could afford even one pair of their glasses they were very rude and the tech's tried to refuse to do our PD measurements. After some convincing they begrudgingly agreed. They did my two kids, but when they got to me, I noticed they held the PD machine at a strange angle and the measurement came back much different than my previous PD. I asked if they were sure they did it right and they responded with a very curt 'I know how to do my job' I got a more recent eye exam at a different place and they confirmed my PD measurement never changed and that the people at Casco Bay had botched the measurement purposely because I wasn't buying their glasses.

This place infuriates me…read more The last two/three times I've gone to them, had my contact exam, and ordered contacts, I've been very low on contacts and let them know this. I also haven't had a car. So, I pay an additional $9 on top of the crazy contact cost to have them shipped to me. Every single time they've told me to expect them to get to me in 4-5 business days. And every single time, it's two weeks later, I'm out of contacts, and I don't have them yet. The first time I called asking, they said whoops, they've been sitting here for a week and a half. They finally shipped them and I got them a couple days later. This time, it's been 15 days. I called at day 13 asking what was up. They put me on hold, then straight up lied to me and said they were out for delivery and would be there in a few hours. Two days later and they're nowhere to be found. No updates. I'm paying $9 for shipping and the contacts sit there for weeks until you literally call them and ask what's up. Now I'm out of contacts, and very frustrated. I know this is basic, but what the f***? These are my eyes! And these contacts cost an arm and a leg!!!! Do better plz. Sorry

Deceitful billing practices, unfriendly doctors, BAD and inaccurate medical advice, etc. My first problem was their doctors contradicting each other about a major problem. One recommended surgery the other recommended I "wait and see." Well which one is it?! They wouldn't discuss with each other to see why they had such radically differing opinions. The most recent problem I had was a bogus $100 "contact fitting" charge. All the doctor did was reorder my same lenses. She didn't actually fit them or even discuss the lenses with me. Now I'm having problems with the fit of my contacts and have no recourse without wasting even more money with them. Avoid this practice at all cost! They are deceptive and don't care about their patients' health.

The staff are very nice and do a great job as well. In the era of many impersonal medical offices, here is one that puts the patient/customer first and is always helpful, never advantage-taking. Contacts orders come in super fast. The waiting area is pleasant and lit by natural sunlight. There is a glasses place right next door in the plaza that is fun to browse, too.
