Review: A Call to Avoid Family Hospice
My family endured an utterly distressing and unacceptable experience with Family Hospice during my father's final days. What should have been a period of compassionate support turned into a nightmare of neglect and frustration, leading me to strongly advise others against entrusting their loved ones to this company.
The ordeal began on Thursday, June 5th, at 2:00 AM, when my father, already in hospice care, suffered a stroke. At first the nurse on call asked my mom to administer morphine (she had never been taught how to do so). Despite his severe pain, it took a distressing hour for a male nurse to arrive and administer morphine. Even then, the care was woefully inadequate; my father continued to suffer excruciating pain, requiring us to constantly advocate for proper medication and attention.
The lack of responsiveness from Family Hospice was appalling. When my father's pain intensified, calls to the company and the male nurse were met with excuses about being "short-staffed" or suggestions to involve neighbors. It was only after immense frustration that we were told to call 911 to get my father to the hospital.
He was finally admitted to Northeast GA Hospital Winder campus and later transferred to Northeast GA Hospice. The contrast was stark and immediate: Northeast GA Hospice provided amazing care and support during his last two days, demonstrating the compassion and professionalism utterly absent from Family Hospice.
It is clear to me that Family Hospice is not concerned with the well-being of their patients and their families. Their dismissive attitude, failure to provide essential care, and attempts to deflect blame onto "miscommunication" are inexcusable. If a hospice cannot provide answers, show up when needed, and offer genuine support, they have no business operating in such a critical field. Save your loved ones and yourselves from this agonizing experience; seek care elsewhere immediately. read more
