They take the city of LA vouchers (available to everyone in the city for discounted spay/neuter services - $50 off - and for some income levels for free or steeply discounted spay/neuter), which almost no one does. Making an appointment was super easy online. And with the $50 voucher, the cost was only $145 for my little dog... amazing! I recommend you get there EARLY if you're going for a spay/neuter clinic day. They say no later than 7:30 AM but I was there at around 6:45 and they were already checking people in... so go early. You pay in cash. They can also do microchips at the same time as the surgery. This was so easy compared to other places that offer similar services. And Dr. Shukman was kind and compassionate while doing the Lords work for sure. read more

Thankful that Family Veterinary offers low cost spay and neuter clinics! Didn't qualify for a lot of the other clinics offered by places like ASPCA and almost gave in to paying over $1,000 to have the procedure done at a local vet. We were hesitant to pay that amount since it was an expense not expected especially after already paying for an initial check up and vaccinations elsewhere (our cat adopted us - she just showed up in the backyard so we took her under our wing since knew the shelters are so overpopulated). Dr. Shukhman is so kind and can tell helping animals is his passion. Had a follow up question after the surgery and Mauricio was so helpful too. If your pets pick up time is before 1PM, they will contact you. The expectation is for you to come pick up your animal promptly after the call to avoid stress on the animals so make sure you hang out close to the location if don't live close. I'm so glad that after researching all the local options for low cost spay & neuter, I decided to get my kitten spayed at Family Veterinary's mobile clinic! I had found a little kitten in a grassy area near the 101 freeway about five months prior and brought her home to be part of my cat family. When it eventually came time for her to be fixed, I wanted to find her the best option I could, and this business had the best reviews out of all the places I considered. My local vet wanted over $700 for the surgery, and Family Veterinary offered the procedure at a fraction of the price. When I took her in, I had a bunch of questions, and the vet personally answered all of them. I asked if they removed just the ovaries or the uterus, and he told me they removed both. This is the best option because cancers can develop in later life if the uterus isn't removed. I also asked if the anesthesia was general or local, and he told me they did both. I picked my kitten up a few hours later, and brought her home. They told me to keep her in an e-collar for a few weeks, but I took it off a bit early, since she wasn't picking at her stitches. She healed completely within a couple of weeks, and now, I can't even find where the incision was! Our long-time vet retired, so we were without a vet. After a grooming visit, my pup came home with a rash. On July 2nd, I was not expecting to get in on short notice, but I thought I would try. The person was very understanding; she even offered to pray for me. She said she prioritized the call and that I would get a call back ASAP. I called back later that day, asking when I would hear back. They said, "Oh, you won't get a call the same day, maybe 24-48 hours." Well, it didn't happen then either. I'm glad I didn't wait. To this day, nothing. No call whatsoever, although I keep getting nearly daily emails from them even after opting out and unsubscribing. We ended up finding a great clinic that got us in right away. Drop off was easy and everyone running to the clinic was helpful and kind. They do allow you to pick up your pet pretty quickly after surgery so my only recommendation is that as an owner you take the day off to monitor/baby your pet. I'm so happy with the service! I used this veterinarian for my dog's dental cleaning and I was really worried because she's older and her teeth were pretty bad. He explained the whole process and fees ahead of time over the phone and on the day of the appointment showed up early and the whole thing took about an hour! He's really good about calling throughout the appointment and explaining everything he does and charges you for. I was very surprised my dog was able to keep all her teeth and they look great! 100 percent will be using him again. To address other reviews, yes he probably is a bit pricey but he comes to you! This review is for the low cost spay and neutering clinic. TL;DR: pricing structure is misleading. You will pay more than you expect. I made an appointment in April, 6 months ago, to get our large dog, Charlie, neutered. The form I completed did clearly state "Routine Dog Castration up to 30lb $195...additional fees for larger dogs." Charlie is a still growing golden/Pyrenees mix so I was ready for additional fees, but the form did not indicate how much. To get that information, you have to pay a $55 nonrefundable deposit, which I did. Confirmation email came back stating "Dog up to 80lb $360 / Dog over 80lb $480" and I was like, oh wow. When they said "fee" I was not expecting to pay over 2 times as much but...ok. As the appointment drew closer, I received another confirmation email stating the same thing. Then the day of the appointment arrived. Imagine my surprise when my husband calls me saying that the service was actually going to cost $610 (so $665 since the deposit is not deducted.) They claimed the $480 amount was "a typo." At this point we had already driven him to their clinic 7:00 in the morning and withheld his water all night so, yeah. I guess we're paying more than expected, again. The neutering did go as planned (hence 2 stars instead of 1), however Charlie is now home, completely drenched in urine. This normally would be just a minor inconvenience, but we can't wash him for 2 weeks, and wiping him down as well (and as gently) as we can isn't doing much for the smell. So that's a real stinky cherry on top. Would not recommend. Given, $665 is less than the $1000 I was quoted by our vet, but there have to be other low cost options out there that are much more transparent. read more

I had reached out for their services to have my dog euthanized at home because she was in so much pain and could not be brought to a facility to be put down, I had been referred to them by a friend so I was confident I had chosen the right person for the job. I was concerned on the process as anyone would be when it comes to a situation like this I was told there would be two injections one that will pretty much knock her unconscious and the second to end it all. To my surprise, the first injection made her jump in agonizing pain while I had to hold her until she became lifeless in my arms all I can say was I'm so sorry, sweetie. We love you. You can only imagine what i was going through at that moment this is my first time putting a dog down and had no idea what to expect. This is something no one should ever have to go through. Then she was taken away to his truck to finish the job in private. He had the nerve to say "that woke her up " as if that was something nice to say maybe it's just another day in the office for this man either way no one should have to throught something like this but that's life. In June 2023 I took two of my cats to get shots and fixed. 1 male and 1 female. I paid roughly $40 in total for their shots and the same day I went in for the shots I was able to get an appointment the next day at 7am to get them both fixed. I drop off both of my cats at 7am the next day and filled out their paperwork and I was told there could be an additional charge if the female cat was pregnant. When I went back to pick them up I was told my female cat was pregnant so I'd be paying a charge of $50. I paid the charge and went on my way. This place was affordable, staff was nice, and I came back again. I went back in Sept 2023 with a stray cat that I decided to adopt so I wanted to get her shots and get fixed. I was able to get an appointment for her so I was glad they were able to take me in. Since she was a stray I was afraid she'd be pregnant and I was fully aware of the $50 charge from my previous cat. When I dropped her off at her appointment I was reminded again that there would be a charge if pregnant. I go back later in the day to pick her up and everything was going smooth. I pay the bill, I gather my things and on my way. As I am getting into my car I'm stopped by a staff member because apparently she was pregnant and was told I needed to pay an additional $100. I spoke with Dr. Shukhman about it and I asked if I was able to get an additional receipt for $100 dollars charge and he said yes. And I asked why was it $100 instead of $50 from my previous cat. He said because all cats are different and some cats need more work/materials/anesthesia. I went back to my car to grab more money (it's cash only here) but unfortunately did not have rest of the other $50 because I already had $50 in case my cat was pregnant assuming my charge of my previous cat. When I went back to pay the bill Dr.Shukhman was no longer in the building and I was not given a receipt for the additional charge. I stayed speaking with the man in the front desk because I wanted to know exactly the prices of their services but no one was able to provide me anything. I wasn't even provided a receipt when I asked for one again. The man at the front desk was kind enough to take the payment of $50 and honor it because of my previous cat but then was told " We will take your payment of $50 but we will not help you again " so I'm no longer able to come to this vet again. and then he told the other staff member under his breath " because she can't pay her bills." I didn't say anything after that but I appreciated him honoring my payment. But it did sadden me with the comment he made about me because Im trying to get affordable care for my cats and was able to afford the $50 thinking that's what I was going to pay exactly from my previous cat. I referred this place to friends and family and it's always different prices that they charge their customers. That's when the man in the front desk said because it's nonprofit organization so it depends how many pets they can get for the day, if they don't get enough to cover their costs they will raise prices to customers to make up for it. I'm sadden that I will no longer be welcomed here again because this place was within my budget for my first two cats and that was the reason I wanted to come back with my third cat thinking they had set prices. But unfortunately from this second visit and the way the staff didn't know of their prices for the services they offer since they are always changing and not providing me with any receipt I won't be referring to any friends or family again. read more

I have been looking for MONTHS for low cost neuter/spay clinics but literally everywhere was booked for the foreseeable future and you can't even make an appointment. I was about to bite the bullet and pay $1000+ at my regular vet to spay my 1 year old puppy. Luckily I was able to find Family Vet. and book ahead of time. I understand that waiting for months isn't ideal but for the price you cannot complain. They take vouchers and work with pet insurance. I got my dog spayed and microchipped and with insurance (embrace wellness benefits) I paid about $5. It was a struggle to find an affordable spay for her and I made various calls and even got quoted over $600 for a rabbit spay. I want to start off by saying that I arrived at the clinic with the utmost confidence that you guys would do a great job. I read all your reviews and felt satisfied that my cats were in great hands. In the morning when I dropped off my cats, we were attended to by the main doctor, who was kind and professional. We were the first ones there and promptly had our cats dropped off by 7am. We were then told that someone would call us once the cats were ready for pickup and to be there no later than 2:30pm. Okay easy enough. Unfortunately that's where the good experience ended. No one ended up calling us about our cats all day, so my husband gave the veterinary center a call and we were told someone would call us back. At around 2pm someone called us back and we asked about the status of our cats and we were then told they were ready for pickup. Luckily for us, we were already outside the clinic when we received the call back. As we walked up to the clinic, one of the workers came up to us and asked for the names of our pets. When we told him, he replied "Okay I'll try to remember that" and walked away. I can still brush that aside however, I should have taken that as a sign. We walked inside the clinic and all of the techs were sitting on a long table. One of the techs quickly got up and asked if we could wait outside, which is fine BUT let me tell you that when we walked inside, it reeked of marijuana. Let me assure you, it was definitely weed and the smell was prevalent inside. The tech eventually comes outside and lets us know that the cats are likely drugged and not to let them lick themselves or each other for 2 weeks. I was also told that they didn't need a cone, which makes no sense seeing as how I was told I needed to keep them from licking themselves and each other. Since I got back from the appointment, it's been difficult keeping the cats apart and from trying to lick themselves. All other cat parents I have talked to received a cone after their appointment and also find the lack of a cone as odd. For the future, I recommend providing the cone or offering it at an additional cost. The tech asked us to sign a release form for the discharge but didn't even explain the discharge instructions or what the form was for. My husband had to ask the tech to explain what we were signing as the tech wanted us to sign the paperwork without telling us what it included. Now here is where my main issue lies. When we received Hades back, my poor cat was shaking very badly. He is a very sweet and shy cat so I thought he was just nervous being around other animals. However when I got home, I took him out of his carrier and he had this red gash on his nose. He did NOT have this injury before I dropped him off, he got this during his time at YOUR clinic. I am absolutely floored by the lack of professionalism and care we have received at Family Veterinary Inc. You guys didn't even call me, who knows how long the cats were sitting there waiting for us. Then when we show up, the office smells like marijuana. We get the cats back with no cone and to top it off, with an injured cat? I KNEW the techs were being fishy for a reason. It's absolutely ridiculous and uncalled for. I will be enclosing pictures of Hades' facial injury but note that I will also be leaving reviews of your office online. You guys are a vet's office and I trusted you with the care of our cats. I am so disappointed and can only wonder what happened to Hades while we were away. I am HEARTBROKEN to see my baby in pain and have had to soothe him as he's been crying since we brought him back. Shame on you guys, I will never be back. read more

I am helping a low income family by handling their dog's spay surgery. I scheduled an appointment for Star with the mobile unit yesterday. Dr. Shukhman was wonderful. He answered all of my very nervous questions thoroughly at drop off. He also had his staff contact me with pertinent info when Star had issues arise in surgery-- she was in heat (I did not know!) and she had thick scar tissue from a backyard breeder c-section (I did not know and was so horrified!). This helped me greatly in anticipating what Star might need as she recovers. Great experience. I shudder to think about how most vets would've handled 2 such unexpected issues arising during the spay. We were lucky enough to have Dr Shukhman & his staff handle the situation smoothly and at a reasonable price even with the more time-consuming bumps in the road! read more

Well, this review is a tough one to write. I can't recommend fully, nor can I say it's not worth recommending. As of now, my stupid, meaningless opinion, is 3.5/5 stars (or 7/10 stars). Another reason Yelp really needs to get on the 10 star system (or 1/2 star point system) Let's start out by saying: It's expensive. Very expensive. TOO expensive. But, there is the convenience of them being mobile and driving to you in a mobile clinic. Plus, they seem to be more readily available to see your pup. These guys were nice, it's true. They are convenient too, being able to drive up anywhere and park nearby in their tiny repurposed ambulance. But, guess what: Expensive. Super expensive. Maybe it's because it's Los Angeles and their hefty requirements, I have no idea. California does that. But you will go broke very fast, especially if you want a second opinion. You will likely spend $1300 dollars or more for two different exams with x-rays. We've seen total, about 8 different vets in Los Angeles by now... so, read reviews. A LOT of them. If these guys could find a way to be WAY more affordable... I would try them out again and update. They are honest and upfront about it. And they are nice. So there ya go. If price is no object at all... a new review is worth delving into. There are SOOO many "veterinarians" in Los Angeles where you will likely get a huge bill, lots of costly prescriptions, costly and unnecessary paraphernalia, and completely bullsh*t canned wet dog food. It's like doctors don't even study nutrition. They're more suited to be a used car salesmen. It really does make it very difficult to find one that's honest, one that's actually good, and one that won't break your bank. GOOD LUCK. Also, let's not forget about this pandemic thing, making it extremely difficult, pretty much any vet, to have your pup seen in any reasonable amount of time. The best thing to do is: Guess when your dog MIGHT be sick in the future, hopefully around a month or so in advance, and then schedule your appointment for then. Otherwise you'll be crossing your fingers the problems don't get worse in that month, OR you're going to an emergency room, both are not great options for most cases. After seeing 4, yes 4, vets in Los Angeles, all for the exact same issue to no resolve. ALL of them, including here, charging EXORBITANT fees on top of their initial exam price. Especially for x-rays. $550-600 dollars to start, just for the x-rays. Well... after seeing these 4 vets, some being extremely rude, some being WAY too expensive, some with very shady payment options... Longest story short, we made a stop in Albuquerque (a scheduled trip, not just a random drive around looking for vets) and we got to see a vet-wait for it-based on ANOTHER vet's recommendation because they were at capacity. Yeah! Another vet's recommendation for another facility. THIS my friends, is where the real comparisons begin. Night and Day. ESPECIALLY on price. Easy to schedule online, you can upload videos and notes, talk to staff ahead of time, they use safe practices, they were super friendly, facility is nice and clean, all were compassionate, scheduling was easy (2 weeks here), AND IT WAS ALL AFFORDABLE , even with a set of X-rays done all in the SAME exam in ONE complete hour. 1. Took our dog to their low cost spay/neuter clinic. ALL the paperwork/emails we received at the time of registration shows that a dog up to 80 lbs would be $360. Our dog weighed 70 1/2 lbs. We were charged $480. My daughter questioned it, and the guy working the front desk was VERY rude and dismissive and just stated that the prices were raised. The reminder email of our appointment that we received THREE days prior to the appointment stated the price again as $360. Why did they not tell us about the price increase at that time??? I recommend mobile Family Veterinary. Our dog is old and afraid of everything now so driving her to a vet to have her teeth cleaned would have stressed her out too much. Mauricio, who helped us set up the appointment, was very empathetic and patient with our many many questions and Dr. Shukhman was very informative and made our dog as comfortable as possible while doing a non-anesthetic cleaning. read more
