I've been bringing my pups to Sharp since they were a couple months old -- and I'm so glad I found Sharp! What also makes me feel more at ease, they won't push unnecessary things on you. I'm a helicopter mom through and through, because I know my breeds health issues/concerns. Sharp never makes me feel crazy and always comes in with a smile. OK, first, I had written a fairly good review about Dr Sharp and the clinic. We took our late Bella there very often for treatment due to all kinds of health issues. Unfortunately, and with great sadness, we had to let her go due to the end stage of Cushing's disease. No doubt about it, the staff is and always was a wonderful team. Helpful, kind, and respectful. Even on this painful day. I also thought the same of Dr. Sharp the same way. I always had the impression he had a soft spot for Bella because she was always so cooperative and quiet and well-behaved. We had spent a lot. And I say, a whole lot of money for Bella at this clinic. I don't think I ever left this place without paying under $400.-! First, after we went through this sad day, I felt grateful and thought I owed a great gratitude to Dr Sharp. Until I started to think more clearly, and also started to talk to others who have a lot of experience with vets. And could not believe what I was charged and how the whole process went, and the charge alone for the visit to see the doctor for less than 10 minutes. The day we came in and talked to Dr. Sharp he agreed with us that it was time to help Bella to guide her over the rainbow bridge, as they say, because she was suffering. We talked to him for maybe 3 or 4 minutes. Then he gave her 1 shot. (Normally, they take the animal to the back, prep them, and bring them back with a needle insert already in the vein, so the doctor only has to give the two different injections into it.) But no. He gave her the first shot right there and then. I don't want to go into details. When she was " sleeping," we stood by her to say our goodbye, but then this started to get very uncomfortable because this time became extremely long to the point that it became agonizing for us to go through this stage. This was NOT a normal way to do this. It was not our first time we had to go through something like this. I had to go outside and ask where the doctor was. I was told they wanted to give us enough time. I think he was too busy with other clients. Shortly after he came. He put a rubber band around her leg, gave her that " pink" injection, and it was over, and of course, my spouse and I needed our time at that point. I don't think I need to mention how emotional that was for us. He left, and that was it. All in all, we saw him for maybe less than 10 minutes. After we stayed in the room for a while to say goodbye to our Bella, we had to lift her onto a blanket, because we wanted to take the cushion we brought for her back home with us. Alone, that was something we never had to endure. Now, all this we had to pay over $450!!! He charged us for the visit alone $74!! 2 weeks before that, a visit was only $59!! Those shots cost pennies to him as a vet. I do know that for a fact from several rescue friends I have. So, that procedure alone was over $350! Injections and removal of the body. You think that after bringing in so much money, he might waive the doctor visit. especially in a case like this. But no. He even charged MORE than the visit from the last time. I always had nothing but the best impression and respect for this man. But taking such an advantage of a client visit at a time like this is, in my mind, ruthless. We were even kind enough to bring all of Bella's meds that are worth a lot of money to them to give them to people who might not have enough money out of the goodness of our hearts. Again, the staff is wonderful, and they have no say in this whatsoever. I had my share of disappointments with some vets, but this is something my spouse and I will never forget and forgive. Dr Sharp is nice enough but the staff is incompetent. Made an appointment for my dog to get one lepto booster and they gave him two vaccines he'd recently gotten instead. This happened to someone else who left a review! They did not consult his file and initially refused to refund me. When Dr Sharp tried to help clear it up, the woman at the desk handed over my dog's file and claimed they "just got" his vaccination record. No, she "just" printed it but I emailed it 4 days ago after I confirmed the appointment--and not sure it would have mattered since she admitted she didn't look at the file? It was bizarre. I am writing to share my deeply upsetting experience with this office. I am heartbroken to report that my healthy, six-year-old dog died due to a penicillin overdose administered by Dr. Sharp. We rushed him to the emergency vet, but it was too late. My dog initially became ill after a penicillin injection. He got allergic reaction and we informed the Vet but he said its ok it will go away. However, without conducting any blood work after the first time giving him penicillin to determine the underlying cause of his illness, Dr. Sharp gave him more penicillin. In the span of one week, my dog received an excessive amount of penicillin, which led to liver and heart failure. He died just hours after receiving six penicillin shots from Dr. Sharp. To my further dismay, his office still charged me for additional medication even after we informed them that my dog was having severe difficulty breathing following his visit. Please be aware of our experience. We placed our trust in their practice, and we paid a devastating price. The pain of losing my beloved dog in this manner is unbearable and will never leave me. I went to this vet office for over 23 years with three different dogs. Recently, I had to have my 5 pound 17 year old Chihuahua put to sleep. Sharp Pet Hospital charge me $340 for that emotionally excruciating but very simple procedure. I know everything has gone up, but that was ridiculous. Dr. Sharp is a fine veterinarian and his large staff is very nice, but that wasn't the first time I had big questions about the amount of money I was being charged for things. Oh, by the way, it's in a not so great part of town. I do not recommend. ***Update - Today I went to Montrose Pet Hospital in Montrose (the expensive area where Dr. Sharp lives) and inquired about how much they would've charged to put my 5 pound Chihuahua to sleep. However, I've also called on short notice when something unexpected happens and they've squeezed me in, which I so appreciate. I have had so many issues with other vets in the area and I'm happy to have found Sharp Animal hospital after years of looking for a vet for my cat! We had so many vets misdiagnose her in order to get a quick payment when she's actually very healthy. She's older so having a vet who really cares is important! My fur baby is 16 years old and I owe such a big part of that to Dr. Sharp and his incredible team. My review is lengthy because there is no way to express the care this clinic provides in a few words. I am by far not an easy customer to have in this regard because my anxiety and overthinking take over in any health crisis in regards to my dog, but Dr. Sharp and his team have always given the utmost care and went above and beyond to reassure me in moments of high stress. Dr. Sharp is not only extremely knowledgable and talented at his profession, but truly cares about the animals he treats. Some reviews mention they had a long wait and didn't get much time/explanation from him, but I have no doubts I OVER ask and he has never left any of my worries unanswered. If you don't ask, he may not explain at length and volunteer information, but I feel that is the case with many great doctors, for animals and humans alike. He knows exactly what to do/administer/prescribe and will get your pet the best care, whether he gives you a lengthy explanation or not. My dog is 17lbs, and although will show his teeth and try to scare you, I don't believe poodles are known to be dangerous. Well, the other vet office we used to take him to would hand US a muzzle and ask us to put it on him before they would even go near him, which would just aggravate him more. Dr. Sharp has never once needed to muzzle or restrain him in this way, even though yes my little crazy has tried to scare him. He has some sort of calming effect where the second he picks him up, my dog completely calms down and trusts him. Some notable experiences: - I've rushed to his office after hours, ran to his car as he is pulling out of the parking, and he has gotten out of his car, opened the office back up, and provided care to my dog. I don't know any other veterinarian who would have done that. - In 2020 I was convinced my dog had swallowed the wrap off of his paw, and I went to Dr. Sharp probably half a dozen times at every little symptom, even though the first visit he told me he doesn't seem to have swallowed it. He still checked him out every single time to reassure me nothing was wrong, several times free of charge. Of course Dr. Sharp was right and a month later I found the bandage that my dog had hidden. - My dog ingested a large amount of sand and it had caused an obstruction. We had no idea what was causing his nonstop vomiting and lethargy, and Dr. Sharp's office was closed for the day so we went to an emergency clinic. They did an x-ray and wanted to do surgery to take out an obstruction, under the belief that he had swallowed one large item which was stuck in his intestine. We waited until the morning, took him to Dr. Sharp, who took an x-ray and reassured me surgery was absolutely not needed. With IV hydration the sand broke away from each other and came out through his bowel movements. - Throughout my time with Dr. Sharp my dog has gotten probably close to a dozen foxtails stuck in his paws and ears. He is the same color and has curly hair and unfortunately my street has many houses with yards full of it so no matter how much I've tried to be vigilant many have snuck their way through. Dr. Sharp has always, with no issue, been able to locate and remove the foxtails. During one incident he was out of town and I was forced to resort to True Care in Studio City. The absolute worst experience. Not only did they say they have to put him under anesthesia (Dr. Sharp has never needed to do this), but after an entire day of waiting in the parking lot (COVID restrictions meant you can't join your pet) and making my dog stress out alone inside, put his system through anesthesia, they thenhad trouble waking him back up, stating that his body temperature was not regulating. Then, they had the audacity to offer me $50 back, after a bill of over $800, saying oops we couldn't find the foxtail. I was livid but just grateful he woke up and I got to take him home thinking we will somehow have to wait until Dr. Sharp is back. I didn't even look at what is on my dog's paw because I was just happy he was back in my arms finally. The next morning, I realized they had left the IV in him, and I had to rush him back to have that removed. Absolute carelessness. Of course, once Dr. Sharp was back, it took him 5 minutes, with no anesthesia mind you, and took the foxtail right out. Dr. Sharp aside, everyone in the office is so compassionate and caring. Maria, Melinda, Brenda, just to name a few, are always so accommodating and genuinely concerned with getting your pet the the medical at The only downside is that the office is open very limited hours, resulting in high wait times when they are open, but that only speaks to Dr. Sharp's expertise. Literally anytime Dr. Sharp is out of town is when I am most stressed because I know I trust no one with my baby the way I can trust Dr. Sharp. There is literally no one in any sector I recommend the way I do this office. read more

My best friend is a 4.5 year old 85+lb Chocolate Labradoodle, BEAU, and he has been a patient of Doc Christian Sharp's Pet Hospital for 2 years now. Without counting, Beau and I have had 10 or so visits for both routine and "urgent care" and all of those have been with both of us in the exam room with Doc Christian, who is personable, professional, very competent, and a sort of no nonsense vet med practitioner. I say "no nonsense" because he enters the exam room, greets you and your pet, and gets straight to assessing and treating my or your pet and you leave with a full evaluation and instructions for home care as needed. I want to mention this because some may want a vet to engage in small talk when other patients are waiting, and what we all need is fast, efficient, competent care for our animals. That's what Doc Sharp gives. With regard to BEAU'S "urgent care" needs, the staff at Sharp Pet Hospital has been very responsive and accommodating to us, getting us into the office often on the same day telling me to "just come in and we'll fit you in!" Not only do we get a fast response, but in all cases Doc Sharp is an excellent vet med diagnostician, assessing the problem in quick order, treating and prescribing. In two years, Doc Christian has never made a bad call. That's as good as one can expect! Bottom line: Yesterday my dog BEAU was having a serious skin aliment, I called, his office told us to come in and we'll fit you in. We were in the exam room less than 10 minutes for assessment, diagnosis, injection, prescription ... and 24 hours later we are at home and BEAU slept well during the night and is doing much better already with 9 more day to go on antibiotics. I highly recommend Dr Sharp! I have been going to him for over 10 years. I should have written a review a long time ago but better now than never. I have a 15 year old Chihuahua Jack Russell and I suspected that he needed a teeth cleaning and probably extractions because of his bad breath. He also had a giant wart on his paw I wanted to get rid off. I was nervous because my dog is old and I was scared of anesthesia but Dr Sharp said my dog qualified for it because his blood test was good and his heart is very strong so I trusted him. On May 9th I dropped Ricky off at 9am and when I picked him up at 2pm he looked of course tired but he also looked great. He had 10 extractions, his teeth were now white, no more bad breath and the wart was gone. I kept on telling him he looked so handsome! As soon as we got home I could not believe he already wanted to eat so he did. Then he went in his bed and took a long nap. I am posting a video of him the very next day of his surgery to show how great he was doing 24 hours later. Also it's a family practice. It used to be Christian Sharp, his dad and his mom. Not sure how I've never reviewed my vet but I've been going to Dr. Sharp since I got my first rescue back in 2013. He was the vet listed on my wiley little pup's paperwork and I figured if he could handle my troublemaker at his worst then he was the right choice and Dr. Sharp and his staff have been fantastic over this last decade. As mentioned, he can handle my man-hating, nipping, grumpy old Spaniel mix with ease and when I adopted my second dog back in 2015, getting him in for all the proper check ups and whatnot was a breeze. Then when Covid hit I waited to get an appt because they had special Covid hours so I didn't want to go in unless I needed multiple things looked at so I booked for nail trim and check ups. Unfortunately my smaller guy I got in 2015 had gone into renal failure. The receptionists I spoke to over those next several days were all extremely sweet especially Melinda. And when Dr. Sharp realized what was potentially happening he came and sat with me in the lobby to explain the tests he wanted to run, what they cost, and why he felt they were necessary. They came back showing the renal failure as he had surmised and he then spoke to me on the phone about my various options and I took a few days to decide but ultimately made the difficult decision not to spend 1-2K taking my dog to strangers at another hospital that I would have to leave my dog at and not be able to physically be present due to Covid. When I came in to put Happy down the entire staff was so sweet, compassionate, and supportive. The only downside really was that due to Covid my bf had to wait in the car so it was just myself, my dog, and Dr. Sharp in the room. He was professional but kind through that process and they take care of everything with the disposal and referred me to an optional company that cremated my dog and gave me a paw print keepsake. Since then I adopted another small rescue and Dr. sharp & his staff always have the nicest things to say about my little guy. I had to take him in for a dental due to his prior situation and I was nervous beyond nervous but after about $1200 for the whole thing I'm confident it was money that was extremely well spent. They took amazing care of my dog and treated him with gentility. The before and after of my dogs teeth cleaning and extractions is amazing. They also performed two different surgeries years ago when my grumpy old dog had to have a tail dock surgery and he was handled with grace, they just usually need two people to handle him lol. The parking lot fills up quickly so I like to book first thing in the morning for faster in/out but they're a lower cost vet (small discount if you pay in cash) so you will have to wait a bit because Dr. sharp is the only vet there. The vet techs/receptionists will get a basic run down of why you're there and then Dr. sharp will go over it with you in the room. He's always friendly and asks how I've been and you can hear him interacting with the other guests because the walls aren't soundproof at all so I know he isn't just nice to me, he goofs around with other patients also but he gives thorough instructions and then the front desk will go over medications and instructions with you when it's time to pay and check out. I continue to go here after a decade and will go here even after my current dogs cross the bridge and new ones come into my life, this place is a gem. read more

I had been going to Dr. Sharp for 12 years. Both him and his father were always so kind and thoughtful. Unfortunately, last year was not the same experience. My dog had been experiencing consistent diarrhea, no appetite, and lethargic. This would be a sure sign something was wrong. The clinic has limited hours, which made it difficult to get an appointment. I took off work multiple times to only be seen for 10 minutes and stated she was simply dehydrated. I went home feeling unsure, but trusted his opinion. Within 24 hours we were in the emergency room and I was informed she had kidney failure and cancer in her stomach. I was heartbroken knowing she had been suffering and she passed the next day. In loosing her, I was unconsolable. What was more hurtful was the fact that I trusted the vet to make the best decision for her. This was not done. Due to my lack of faith and limited availability, I have moved to another clinic. This vet missed a highly contagious ear mite infection. I figured something was not right and took her to North Hollywood animal care center. She was treated for the mites and intestinal parasites. What a mistake going to this aloof veterinarian, never again, very uncaring. I was so shocked after seeing glowing reviews. Last place I would take my companion. I adopted her when she was 3 and her previous owners brought her here. And even though it's not super close to my house I gladly make the drive to get the best care from Dr. Sharp. Always thorough, never rushes you out, answers all your questions even some of the ridiculous ones I ask. Just great cool demeanor like hanging out with one of your buds. And never forces treatments on you if not needed. The staff from Melinda and Maria on down are amazing and so warm and welcoming especially for an anxiety ridden pet dad like myself. After our Dachshund seemed in pain with his back, we went to TWO pet ERs because they were the only ones open at 4:30AM. We ended up coming here and should have just waited until they were open. We just weren't sure how serious the injury was. Sharp and his crew were absolutely amazing. He diagnosed our beloved Donut with a little back sprain and gave us medication for him to take. We were a walk-in and were really hoping they would take us and they did. We were there for probably 20-30 minutes and we were on our way. Prices in my opinion were great too. I want to write a better review, but all my worst gut feelings were just confirmed, so here we go. We started going here with my senior cat when we moved to the area. Short drive, good reviews, fair prices. The staff all were nice. All seemed well. I remember seeing the vet the first time and feeling like I must be a crazy, overly worried pet owner, but in a comforting way. The Dr wasn't too worried about any of my concerns, such a constipation, appetite swings, etc, and just told me to give him some fiber and he would be fine. He brushed off my inquiries about teeth cleaning with barely an acknowledgement. Yes, the appointments felt rushed and a bit abrupt, and I hurried to ask all my questions, but I basically believed I was just being paranoid and my cat was totally fine. After a year or so the pandemic hit and we were in a different state for awhile. I had to take my cat to a vet there for increased vomiting, and right away they did bloodwork and thoroughly checked him out. Something clicked that it was probably supposed to be more like this... I took him back once again to Sharp after he was showing appetite swings and serious constipation again. After maybe 3 minutes the Dr told me to just keep giving him the hairball gel and fiber and that it was all normal and fine. No bloodwork, no tests. He gave me some liquid medication for something unspecified -to maybe help with discomfort or something?- and sent me on my way. The past several months my cat has been losing weight and his symptoms have gotten worse, so I finally did a bunch of research and went to a new vet. Right away she noticed his teeth were way past needing a cleaning, and showed me serious buildup and damage to the point some teeth may need extracted. She didn't push it but definitely suggested it which I am HAPPY to do and pay for! When I explained his symptoms she listened fully, explained all the things it could be that are common for his age, noted the weight loss (over 3 lbs- seems serious to me) and immediately suggested a full blood and urine work up. These are all the things I would expect a vet to do if they are actually concerned about my pet's health. This vet was definitely as confused as I was as to why any vet would not at least check for more serious issues in a 15 year old cat with these symptoms, especially since most are totally manageable if caught early, but could be deadly if caught too late. I finally feel relaxed and like I'm back in good hands. (Though ANXIOUS as I wait to find out if I switched too late!) I don't know, every pet owner is different. If you want someone to not push many tests or treatments and just do a quick check, maybe you'll love Sharp. It was so nice to have someone handling my cat in a loving and gentle way again, I know I won't go back. It's a shame because they are so close to being a great spot, but the many one star reviews I read on here about the vet at Sharp missing serious conditions or illnesses were enough to convince me that it isn't worth the risk. read more

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Go and read through all of the reviews before going off the 5 star ones - there's a lot of worrying stuff in the one star reviews that line up with our experience, and frankly, it's on me that I didn't take the time to read them. This practice has the absolute rudest staff and there's a massive disconnect between what the vet (Christian Sharp) and the people working there say. I struggled to get an appointment a year ago for my cat, but when we did get in, Melinda there was abrupt and told us we were lucky to have gotten an appointment at all. My cat had a heart murmur so Dr Sharp referred us to get an EKG from a cardiologist via another pet hospital and explained that he would treat him based on their diagnosis and instructions. Fine. We had the EKG done in January, and the cardiologist sent the diagnosis of HCM to Dr Sharp with a recommendation for prescription. When Dr Sharp called me with the information, I asked him what the prognosis is with HCM, what the degree of severity was, anything so I'd know how things stood. His answer was simply that his cat with HCM died within a year of diagnosis. He said he was dispensing meds which I should continue to give my cat for the next 6 months and then go back to the cardiologist for another EKG. We're right about to run out of the medications, so I contacted Dr Sharp's office to ask what we needed to do to get a refill, because this is something my cat has to take every day. They told me that because my cat hadn't been to Dr Sharp in a year, they couldn't send the prescription. THANK GOD I'd already been in touch with the cardiologist because frankly, the information (really, the lack of it) that I was given by them upon diagnosis wasn't good enough for me, so I don't have to race to try to get my cat in somewhere today. The cardiologist was shocked to hear what Dr Sharp had told me, because frankly with treatment, HCM can be managed for many years. She told me that she'd been very detailed in the information she initially sent to Sharps, they just weren't good at interpreting it which is a failure any way that you look at it. If what they needed to dispense these life saving medications was a check up with my cat, they could have just said that but it was very clear that they really didn't want to deal with it at all. I'm floored, really. I've never had such lackadaisical treatment anywhere. If you care about the life of your pets, take them to a reputable VCA pet hospital such as Calabasas dog and cat hospital. If I could give no stars for this practice, I would. Being rude and mean spirited to pet owners is a huge incentive to send them elsewhere. read more

I waited to write a review until we had been here several times to see if it all panned out. And it has! It's normally so easy to get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time, the pricing is so fair, and the vet really seems to like animals. I used to live on the West side and all the vets there are expensive and they don't seem to care. This place is such a welcome change. Both times I was there the doctor made me and my pets feel welcome and cared for. He seemed to be just as stoked on my pets as I was!! He seems like he got into pet care for his love of animals instead of just to make money. They didn't try to up-sell me on anything and just did what needed to be done. Each trip was so affordable- I've been shocked at my totals both times. Now I can afford to bring my pets in whenever I think something is off vs waiting it out and feeling bad. All of the staff is incredible. They are all so nice and helpful. Coming here is such a change from any vet I've previously been too. I really trust them with my pets. read more

We love Sharp Pet Hospital as well as our fur babies. Dr. Sharp is the best and every one there is very friendly, Maria always help us a lot when we have questions she explains us everything in Spanish our first language! (Because when is something important like vet visits we always prefer to get explain en Español) We had been with them for many years now and we always recommend them to all friends, co-workers and people we know who may need a trustworthy veterinary service which is so hard to find with so much people on the field just for the money People who had visited Sharp Pet Hospital always gives us thanks for sharing our vet with them.
