Incompetent and unprofessional. The amount of unnecessary pain they caused to my dog and the stress they put my whole family into is despicable. And it's costing us several thousand of dollars to try to fix their mess. I brought my dog to them because he had small spasms to his leg while walking, he wasn't in any pain, he could run and climb obstacles. And I made it clear to them. It looked something neurological. Our vet had just retired, I was a bit lost on where to go, and because they are orthopedics, I thought that was the fastest way to have good X-Rays of his hips and spine to rule out anything orthopedic first before further exams. Dr Sherman came out in the Sherman Oaks parking lot giving me the news that the problem was his knee, both knees were full of fluid and TPLO would have been a quick fix, being mine a working dog, his knee would have been more stable, 8 weeks and he could have been back to normal activity, he made it super easy. I asked twice, 'are you sure'? I felt really rude asking but it seemed very odd the problem was the knee. However, my scared brain wanted to believe that the problem was simpler than I thought and I felt kind of relieved that was an 'easy fix', so I signed for it. Well, the 'easy' process it has actually become a nightmare. Surgery was done by Dr Simon. Immediately after the surgery I noticed that the dog had exactly the same spasm at his leg than before the surgery, I tried to convince myself (and my husband) that it was going to take some time. From day 3 the dog starts oozing about 1 cup of liquid a day, they just changed the bandage a couple of times, bandage was staying on for 5 min then getting soaked and fall off. They were insisting that everything was normal. The oozing became blood, a lot of blood, I showed up at Lynwood office and Dr Sherman told me that there was a lot of coagulated blood that he removed and he re sutured him. After about 10 days from the second surgery the dog starts limping, I take the dog in and they give me an antibiotic for a sore on his ankle (coming from a sort of surgical burn that the dog had managed to lick though the cone) and claim that the dog must have some sort of soft tissue injury because the surgery is healing perfectly, strict rest. Limping get worse even with the dog on rest, the dog is obviously in pain, his foot swells significantly overnight. I go back again asking for X-Rays, Dr Simon very annoyed, says that she is a certified something she doesn't need X-Rays, she can feel with her hands, everything is ok, the dog is guarding his leg and doesn't want to use it, she gives me a full lectures about German Shepherds being very 'legs aware', that he is just behind with rehab, he needs more movement, that's why the foot is swollen. She says she has personally vigorously massaged him and he has the most stiff muscle she has ever felt. Like an idiot I listen to her again, and we start water tread mill same day at the Lynwood location, my dog like a trooper goes through the session. On the following days the dog gets worse, he barely puts his toes on the ground. I take him back AGAIN, this time they do X-Rays, again Dr Sherman says everything ok surgery wise, even though bone is not healed yet, he must have torn the Achille tendon (????? wtf???). Of course, he doesn't come out to talk to me but all this is referred by a technician. Well, I finally wake up and take the dog to Access. In 10 min visit the orthopedic immediately finds muscular atrophy compatible with gracilis myopathy, a rare progressive but self limiting and non painful condition that affects working German Shepherds. I show him the videos of the dog the day before the surgery and he just confirms the diagnosis. Did the dog need TPLO? probably not! He samples the knee fluid right there, with light sedation, and send it to culture. He gives the dog extensive antibiotic coverage while waiting for the culture and the dog responds to the antibiotics in only 48h. Culture results come out with a nasty multi resistant infection most probably introduced at the time of surgery, with only 1 effective antibiotic that he is currently on for 3 weeks, then the infected plate will need to be removed . Of course he lost a ton of muscular mass for being unable to properly use his leg for long time so we also need professional physical therapy. I asked dr Simon's office a million of times pre TPLO surgery X-Rays because I wanted to understand what they saw that suggested them a knee problem. Guess what? I never got them. They kept sending me post surgery X-Rays, like I am an idiot and I cannot see the difference between a knee with and without a plate. And to conclude, after I sent them the culture results to show them that the dog had an infection for at least 3 weeks under their watch, and we had a diagnosis of gracilis myopathy, they never called me and took responsibility, the manager who yells to everybody this time went silent. They also provide ongoing customer service, with help just a text or phonecall away. When we called to schedule Louie's surgery, Mara was incredibly compassionate and got us in the very next day. The day of the surgery, Dr. Simon came out to reassure us and talk us through the plan - she made us feel so taken care of and was both empathetic and encouraging. The whole team at Simon Surgical held our hands throughout the whole process - guiding us as we made several calls in the days following the operation, making sure Louie was comfortable, and providing a very comprehensive guide to post-op care (including online videos for exercises). Lo, their physical therapist, was incredible - making sure Louie was healing well and working his muscles, and she went above and beyond to ensure that after the four weeks of treatment, Louie was well and truly on the road to a complete recovery. Do not let the initial responsiveness fool you; once they have your money, the "care" disappears. The Logistics are Major Red Flags: First, understand that they don't actually have an office in Sherman Oaks. They are just renting a room inside "Beverly Oaks Animal Center." There is no receptionist to greet you; you have to call from the parking lot and wait for a tech. It feels incredibly disorganized. They are building a new spot in Lynwood, but the location is in a very rough area where I wouldn't feel safe returning. Medical Negligence & Incompetence: * They forgot the painkillers: At discharge, they failed to give us the Gabapentin. Our dog was in agony for two days before we realized their mistake and had to drive back. * Poor record-keeping: I asked them twice to take photos of the incision at the first post-op appointment. They still "forgot." * Communication Breakdown: I spoke to three different agents, none of whom spoke to each other. One actually told me I needed to call her back to remind her to schedule an appointment because she would "probably forget." * Shady Billing: Every vet I've ever used provides an itemized bill. Not here. I was given suspicious flat numbers--exactly $3,500 for surgery and $500 for a biopsy. No breakdown, just rounded figures. * The "Nate" Situation: When our dog's condition worsened post-surgery and we tried to get help, we were ghosted. I scheduled a consultation here for my dog who needs TPLO surgery. Because this is a major orthopedic procedure, I wanted to carefully evaluate the practice before committing. Appointments are given in a large window (9am-12pm), which already makes planning difficult. When I arrived, the parking lot was very cramped and not particularly friendly for larger vehicles. The lobby is also extremely small and crowded. If you have a reactive dog or one that struggles around other dogs, this space would be very challenging. After I checked in, they immediately took my dog to the back. There was no intake paperwork and very little explanation about what was happening. I was then placed in an exam room that appeared to be glass or see-through. There was very little privacy, which again may not be ideal for dogs with behavioral issues. My dog remained in the back for the entire consultation. The doctor came in briefly, introduced herself, and spoke very quickly. The interaction felt rushed and not particularly thorough. I left feeling like the consultation lacked the level of detail I expected for a surgical procedure of this magnitude. Shortly afterward, another staff member came in to discuss pricing. She described the quote as a "deal" and explained that they do things differently there compared to other practices. The conversation felt more like a sales pitch than a medical discussion. The professionalism and presentation of the staff member also did not leave a great impression. My dog tore her CCL and I frantically began searching...especially because our baby's a senior and we didn't want her to be in pain. Not even a week later, we brought my dog in for surgery. Everything was done in one day, and her follow ups have been good. Literally everything was included in the quote given. We took our dog razor here and couldn't be more satisfied. After trying to remove his bump twice from different vets, we decided to try this vet. We brought him early to the vet with an empty stomach. The vet kept in contact with us the entire time. They updated us when he was done with surgery and when he was ready to pick up. They also explained the after care very well. His medication was included with the price of the surgery so it was nice that there was no extra costs. Razor made a full recovery and the bump never grew back. The surgeon who works there did an amazing job. I can't imagine how much scar tissue he had with the two prior surgeries and the regrowth of the bump. I know the surgery must've been tricky and time consuming. They took their time with him and gave him the best results. Razor can now lay down on his side and has a much better quality of life. They also found another bump near his butt and removed that one as well. The cone was also included and helped with him not reopening the wounds. Overall, I would recommend this vet to anyone who is looking for surgery for their dog. I believe razor had a lipoma but I'm not positive. I would also like to say that I communicated with Nate personally and he was not rude at all. He really concerned about the well being of my dog. Post surgery and seeing little improvement on our dog, we called SIMON SURGICAL CENTER for some support. We had a horrible experience with Nathan, the office manager, who put up roadblocks, screaming fits, insults and other infantile behavior during our phone calls. This fellow stalled us from getting medical records, x-rays and prohibited us from speaking to the surgeon. After this encounter we were advised to consult a BOARD CERTIFIED SURGEON about their work. This office (Board Certified) gave us timely written documentation after examining our dog that informed us that: SIMON SURGICAL CENTER has only 2 doctors, neither is board certified nor qualified to perform more difficult surgeries - which we had. The surgery they performed was incorrectly done, the bone has not aligned properly (actually not at all), and a second surgery is indicated to repair their errors including a long metal rod inserted in her leg that has the potential to move and injure her. Cost for another surgery is in the neighborhood of $5,000.00 It was suggested by another vet that Simon Surgical Center offer a full refund for their poor work and customer service. We experienced Nathan firsthand - he is a bully, a screamer and totally unqualified as a manager. He made unsubstantiated threats and ridiculous demands as he has done to other pet owners - probably to forestall lawsuits. How an office like this still operates is a travesty. It was strongly recommended we put in a complaint to the California Veterinary Board https://vmb.ca.gov/ so that offices like SIMON SURGICAL CENTER be investigated. We recommend this action to anyone who encounters SIMON SURGICAL CENTER. I called for a pricing, sent pictures via email and they quoted me. I was overwhelmed having a dog that needed surgery as I've never gone through this before. My friend suggested I get a second opinion as the surgery I was going to get my dog was serious and maybe a second opinion was better. Didn't have any concerns until ~4 months later after I had moved out of Los Angeles to northern CA and my dog has started limping again, and appears to be declining. Anxious to get her some relief I start looking for specialists in my area and called Simon Veterinarian for my records. In the end it took 3 phone calls, two texts, and en email to get those records. First contact was June 6th, and I finally got them on June 13th, but not before having one of the.most hilariously, brazenly unprofessional interactions of my life. I called Saturday morning shortly after they opened, at 7:13 am, a male picked up the phone. I explained that I had been trying to get my records and the man on the line started went apoplectic, yelling that he "had a bad vibe when the phone started ringing" and that I was a "needy white man," and that I "didn't need my dog's records to continue treatment." He yelled that I was being rude and that I probably didn't realize it. I've never experienced anything like this. Read the other one star reviews and you'll see a pattern. Then read the one star reviews on Google and the business' response to those reviews and you'll have all the confirmation you need. Quite the experience. I had high hopes when I took my cat, Loki, to Simon Veterinary Surgical for a routine plate removal on June 6, 2025. While the surgery itself seemed fine, the post-operative care was alarmingly negligent. * Discharged too early despite active bleeding--no effective follow-up plan or clear warning. * When I called for help, I was told to "put a sock on it" or buy a pet-store pressure wrap, which didn't stop the hemorrhaging. * Within hours, Loki's bleeding worsened severely, he lost half his blood volume, and was even turned away by an urgent care vet before finally being rushed to LAASER for life-saving treatment. * End result: two days of intensive hospitalization, massive vet bills, emotional distress--and all avoidable if SVS had simply followed basic post-op protocols. This situation showed a dangerous gap in responsibility and care after the operation. The discharge advice was inadequate, the follow-up support nonexistent, and the lack of medical judgement in that critical window put my pet's life at risk. In summary: their after‑care procedures are deeply inadequate. If you're trusting them with a post-op patient, beware--real risks aren't just in the operating room. read more

Being a three dog family, we've had our share of seeking care, whether local, out of state, emergency or with our primary. The latter had diagnosed our 10-year-old rescue with a dreaded CCL tear and provided us a 7k estimate for TPLO surgery. Doing our research, we brought him to Simon who offered a considerably lower flat covering everything from the surgery to post care and meds. Only come to find out in Simon's examination, we weren't dealing with a CCL tear at all. Rather, unfortunately, it appeared cancer was to blame. At Simon Veterinary Surgical they give you diagnosis and procedure the same day with the fair price, the do not charge you one day for screening and then a plus for another day procedure, unlike other clinics that they give you a screening and charge you for that visitation and then again charge you for the procedure. Simon Veterinary Surgical is what we need every where. Their price is fair and still is a 5 start in every area on what they do, from the customer service and clear recommendations to the CARE TO EVERY ANIMAL THAT THEY TAKE. The "Manager", Nathan, who just happens to be married to Dr Simon, is the most rude, self serving, arrogant person I've ever dealt with in any veterinary practice or really in any sort of position of patient care. Run from this place! Once surgery is over the aftercare is nonexistent. For sure you can't be concerned about your pet and you will never speak to a Vet. Nathan plays interference and if you have any questions at all you'll be branded the worse client ever. Because we had questions about our dogs care and post op meds we were labeled incompetent. We were told that Dr Simon was sitting right next to him while he screamed, scoffing at us. If this is true and she could hear the way he was yelling and condones this treatment of her paying patients you can only wonder at this organizations professionalism. If she were truly sitting right next to him and she cared, she could have been handed the phone for a one minute conversation. Our dog had a fracture repair and his body was rejecting the metal plate. Somehow this was our fault according to Nathan and he screamed again (he does not speak he yells) and we were told we did not appreciate all of the FREE care they were giving us. We asked politely several times to speak to our pets Vet because of his body rejecting the metal plate he put in developing some sores and a severe rash we were very concerned about. We were told absolutely not and we would NEVER get to speak to a vet and we were no longer welcome there. Nathan's communication skills are that of screaming, talking over you and accusing us of ruining his vacation. You will not get a word in ever. Why would they even be contacting him if he's vacationing. This organization has only one number for both offices and an email that Nathan monitors like a hawk. There's so much more ... just beware. It's hard to believe there is anyone who can say they had any type of good interaction with him. I will say though that he's pleasant while quoting the price and getting you in the door to pay for a surgery but then it's like a switch goes off and he does a devil 180. He'll also claim he's never worked with you or your dog and you're mistaking them for the free Simon Foundation when you give an honest review. Wonder why he blocks everyone from speaking to his wife, Dr Simon or their other Bet Dr Sherman? You have to wonder if they even know what's going on.... And Dr Sherman is phenomenal with his surgical skills but don't think you'll ever get to have a conversation with follow up care with either of them. It's a shame because the idea and concept of the center is a good one...but there's no way this practice can survive if Nathan continues to be allowed this high and mighty attitude. The final straw came when one last "conversation" took place when I for the final time asked to please have a two minute conversation with the surgeon and Nathan once again screamed stating that our foster was at fault for everything that's gone wrong and stated (screamed again) that it could only be because she was a TRUMPER!!! Truly!! He actually screamed that a dozen times!! Stunned at the total lack of professionalism we ended up going to a different Surgery Specialist to remove the metal plate Dr Sherman had put in. There is a serious anger problem here that does not belong in a veterinarian office working with people worried about their pets. It's only a matter of time if the doctors ignore all of the horrible reviews coming in about the husband of the primary surgeon. Funny because with three dogs having had surgery with them we were really excited to have a relationship with a surgical center that could get foster dogs in and cared for in a timely manner even if the cost was a little higher. We can't wait to see Nathans response to this review trying to turn it all around to being our fault ... that we made dozens of mistakes ... that we expected "free" services and advice even after spending over $12000 in surgeries. We just hoped for good surgical care for our dogs with a Surgeon we could trust . Now we've decided to break ties and go elsewhere because of his tirades and fits of rage. Don't forget, per Nathan, it is a privilege and an honor to be able to go there. He will reiterate this fact over and over again. Good luck... but I'd stay far away. After all is said and done, the office is so unorganized that they can't even access their own radiographs to forward to the surgeon who then removed the plate. My dog underwent a successful surgery with Dr. Sherman. Dr. Sherman did an excellent job and was terrific in communicating with us. Unfortunately, Nathan who answers the phone is the most rude,angry and inappropriate person I have ever dealt with. His behavior was consistent with other reviews on Yelp. From the gentleman I spoke to over the phone to Doctor Simon herself.....A+ in kindness, knowledge and professionalism. I loved knowing exactly what the cost was going to be upfront. Also, Dr Simon spent a good amount of time talking with me explaining the xray results. In the end she did not recommend surgery. She said at some point my puppy may need it, but not now. I appreciated that honesty. You can be sure if my dog does need anything orthopedic care related in the future this is the place I will go to. read more

I found them while searching for solutions for one of my dogs who had chronic shoulder and hip issues, mostly breed related. She limped almost all the time and I wanted to improve her quality of life so I went for a examination. You can come for an exam any weekday from 9-12 without needing an appointment! They quickly diagnosed several issues that she was dealing with, including needing TPLO surgery (which they did the very next day!) and several other treatments. She's doing much better and I recently took another of my dogs to see them for her chronic toe issues. The doctor came out and explained what he found and recommended. To my surprise, they didn't charge me for the exam or meds! I'm sure that's not routine but I think having been there there so frequently with my other dog they took pity on me lol. The staff has always been easy to deal with and show compassion and kindness. I'd definitely recommend them to others. read more

Had a wonderful experience here! Was told to take our dog to an orthopedic veterinarian after having X-rays done. The lady I talked to on the phone was very welcoming and personable, she was able to get us in that morning to have her evaluated. Pricing for the consultation was given prior to visit, so no extra fees or hidden charges! included X-rays and an evaluation by their ortho surgeon, over half of the price of the original vet we took our dog to. Called a few days ago.. And I never leave bad reviews. But the gentleman who answers the phone Nathan was extremely rude. Very unprofessional and emotionless, I understand hospitals can be overwhelming but being rude for no reason is unacceptable. First of all the customer service is horrible. The manager who works there, Nathan is very disrespectful and rude. His attitude and treatment towards paying clients is inexcusable and unprofessional on so many levels. I had surgery done on my pet and had concerns about some complications that he's having while walking and because I missed a recheck appointment, he becomes very condescending and aggressive for no reason and hangs up on me. Apparently I'm not the first customer who has complained about this man. Whoever owns this business should know that he is a big reason why I wouldn't come back here or recommend this practice to my fellow pet owners. read more
