    Louie

Two months ago, our 2 y.o ginger tabby, Louie, stopped his usual acrobatics and started dragging his hind legs. We were alarmed to hear that he had somehow fractured both hips, and that he was in need of a bilateral FHO surgery. Louie is our baby and he was in a great deal of pain. Simon Veterinary Surgical was referred to us by our vet, and from the moment we called, Nate was calming and reassuring. He was upfront about surgical pricing (FHO surgery is not cheap) - but their pricing is very fair and all-inclusive - (including all related medications, plus weekly check-ups during the recovery period and physio to get him back on his 'feet'). They also provide ongoing customer service, with help just a text or phonecall away. When we called to schedule Louie's surgery, Mara was incredibly compassionate and got us in the very next day. The day of the surgery, Dr. Simon came out to reassure us and talk us through the plan - she made us feel so taken care of and was both empathetic and encouraging. Louie's surgery was a complete success. The whole team at Simon Surgical held our hands throughout the whole process - guiding us as we made several calls in the days following the operation, making sure Louie was comfortable, and providing a very comprehensive guide to post-op care (including online videos for exercises). Lo, their physical therapist, was incredible - making sure Louie was healing well and working his muscles, and she went above and beyond to ensure that after the four weeks of treatment, Louie was well and truly on the road to a complete recovery. They even helped us navigate our insurance claim for the surgery. I can't imagine what we would have done without Dr. Simon and her team. Louie is our baby, and thanks to them, we expect him to be back to his parkour antics in no time. I'll be forever grateful.

Loved my experience with the Simon veterinary surgical center . From the beginning, the team educated me on the ins and outs of what was going on with my pups knee. They were able to do a consultation and surgery in the same day. The price for the procedure included blood and xrays and was a fraction of the price of most other veterinary hospitals in LA. Recovery was fast and easy and even included some rehab for my dog. Super happy we ended up here .

My dog, Clover, has been under Dr. Simon's care for luxating patella. Dr. Simon and her team have been nothing short of amazing throughout the surgery and healing process. After our initial consult, Dr. Simon explained the immediate need for surgery and added Clover to her schedule the same day! She took the time from her busy surgical schedule to explain all of the possible options and outcomes while also considering cost and recovery time. Dr. Simon's team of therapists and techs have been caring and informative. They take the time needed to meet with you so you can confidently care for your pup after surgery. They are quick to respond to calls and texts to answer questions, give instructions or provide reassurance. The office staff has also been prompt in providing paperwork needed for insurance coverage. I can't recommend Dr. Simon and her team enough. They provide quality, affordable care for their patients!

Nightmare experience. Medical negligence, hostility, and NOT Board Certified. I am writing this to save other pet owners the stress and heartache we went through. Do not let the initial responsiveness fool you; once they have your money, the "care" disappears. The Logistics are Major Red Flags: First, understand that they don't actually have an office in Sherman Oaks. They are just renting a room inside "Beverly Oaks Animal Center." There is no receptionist to greet you; you have to call from the parking lot and wait for a tech. It feels incredibly disorganized. They are building a new spot in Lynwood, but the location is in a very rough area where I wouldn't feel safe returning. Medical Negligence & Incompetence: * They forgot the painkillers: At discharge, they failed to give us the Gabapentin. Our dog was in agony for two days before we realized their mistake and had to drive back. * Poor record-keeping: I asked them twice to take photos of the incision at the first post-op appointment. They still "forgot." * Communication Breakdown: I spoke to three different agents, none of whom spoke to each other. One actually told me I needed to call her back to remind her to schedule an appointment because she would "probably forget." * Shady Billing: Every vet I've ever used provides an itemized bill. Not here. I was given suspicious flat numbers--exactly $3,500 for surgery and $500 for a biopsy. No breakdown, just rounded figures. * The "Nate" Situation: When our dog's condition worsened post-surgery and we tried to get help, we were ghosted. When I finally got a hold of Nathan ("Nate"), I was shocked. He was incredibly unprofessional, lost his temper immediately, and when I asked valid questions, he threatened to call the police if I showed up at the office and hung up on me. * The Kicker: We had to get our regular vet involved just to get our records released. We also found out too late that this is NOT a California Board Certified surgeon clinic. Please, check credentials and go to a legitimate specialist who won't treat you like a criminal for worrying about your pet.

Huge bump on his rib pre surgery
    Raeannon R.

We took our dog razor here and couldn't be more satisfied. After trying to remove his bump twice from different vets, we decided to try this vet. We brought him early to the vet with an empty stomach. The vet kept in contact with us the entire time. They updated us when he was done with surgery and when he was ready to pick up. They also explained the after care very well. His medication was included with the price of the surgery so it was nice that there was no extra costs. Razor made a full recovery and the bump never grew back. The surgeon who works there did an amazing job. I can't imagine how much scar tissue he had with the two prior surgeries and the regrowth of the bump. I know the surgery must've been tricky and time consuming. They took their time with him and gave him the best results. Razor can now lay down on his side and has a much better quality of life. They also found another bump near his butt and removed that one as well. The cone was also included and helped with him not reopening the wounds. Overall, I would recommend this vet to anyone who is looking for surgery for their dog. I believe razor had a lipoma but I'm not positive. I would also like to say that I communicated with Nate personally and he was not rude at all. He really concerned about the well being of my dog. I never once felt animosity from his customer service skills

Recovery! With lots of careful instructions provided by the Simons team.

It's devastating to read that some people have had bad experiences here because we are SO pleased with them. There is no doubt a high hurdle to get over when you see that they have no waiting room, no front office, and that you wait in a parking lot. TERRIBLE first impression. And yet ... the results speak for themselves. Everyone I spoke with in the parking lot was happy with the results, and ultimately so were we. Our dog ended up doing TWO TPLO surgeries. They helped us with navigating insurance, they were compassionate and understanding, and despite the admittedly very weird setup were very glad the results were so strong. We would always trust them.

Post op bandage completely soaked through 20mins after discharge. It only got worse.

I had high hopes when I took my cat, Loki, to Simon Veterinary Surgical for a routine plate removal on June 6, 2025. While the surgery itself seemed fine, the post-operative care was alarmingly negligent. * Discharged too early despite active bleeding--no effective follow-up plan or clear warning. * When I called for help, I was told to "put a sock on it" or buy a pet-store pressure wrap, which didn't stop the hemorrhaging. * Within hours, Loki's bleeding worsened severely, he lost half his blood volume, and was even turned away by an urgent care vet before finally being rushed to LAASER for life-saving treatment. * End result: two days of intensive hospitalization, massive vet bills, emotional distress--and all avoidable if SVS had simply followed basic post-op protocols. This situation showed a dangerous gap in responsibility and care after the operation. The discharge advice was inadequate, the follow-up support nonexistent, and the lack of medical judgement in that critical window put my pet's life at risk. In summary: their after‑care procedures are deeply inadequate. If you're trusting them with a post-op patient, beware--real risks aren't just in the operating room.

I've been bringing my 19-year-old pup here for the last 6 years, and I honestly can't imagine trusting anyone else. Having a senior dog comes with its fair share of challenges, but every time we walk through those doors, Dr. Oh gives me peace of mind. Somehow I always leave thinking, "Okay...my old man is going to be okay." My pup has struggled with seizures for the last three years, and instead of immediately pushing expensive treatments, Dr. Oh recommended natural supplements that have made a huge difference. We went from about two seizures a week to only every several months! Now that my sweet old guy is dealing with doggy dementia, Dr. Oh has continued to be amazing--recommending affordable supplements, giving practical tips to keep him safe at home, and helping me make the best decisions for his quality of life. One thing I appreciate the most? No nickel-and-diming. I never feel pressured into unnecessary tests or treatments. If something isn't needed, he'll tell you. That kind of honesty is hard to find these days, and it means everything when you're caring for a senior pet. The clinic is always clean, and the staff is kind, patient, and genuinely attentive. They make every visit as stress-free as possible. Located on Sherman Way & Van Nuys Blvd, inside the shopping center with Pablo's, Dunkin', and Otto Sushi, with a large parking lot so finding a space is easy. Thank you, Dr. Oh and the entire Van Nuys Pet Clinic team, for helping my old guy enjoy his golden years. You have cared for him like family, and I'll always be grateful.

My little pup decided to do some "parkour" off the furniture after the midweek fireworks scared him, and he suddenly became completely non-weight-bearing on his back leg.Dr. Oh was absolutely amazing. He wasted no time getting X-rays, quickly diagnosed a hairline fracture, and thoroughly explained everything to me. Thankfully, surgery wasn't necessary, and we have a treatment plan to help him heal. Every single person we encountered showed genuine care, kindness, and compassion not just for my dog, but for me as a worried pet parent. The clinic itself is adorable too! I loved all the cute pet photos decorating the office and wish I had taken more pictures because it has such a welcoming atmosphere. Thank you, Dr. Oh and the entire Van Nuys Vet Clinic team, for taking such great care of my little guy. We truly appreciate everything you did and couldn't have asked for a better experience during such a stressful day.

If you are a resident of Sherman Oaks and are a critical thinker, think twice about this local veterinarian. It came highly recommended by a neighbor. I had high hopes and wanted to support this female centric place, however, as a dog mom I would never recommend it due to poor communication, lack of accountability and customer service and a defensive/ hostile stance when questioned. I went back for a recheck of my dog's allergies and skin growths. Note that there are two problems I was seen for initially and the follow up was to include both. This was not the case. I had to remind Dr. Cortez to remeasure my dog's growths. Not all of the growths were measured and there were no recommendations communicated for care. She was focused on his allergies, which had not resolved. I received VERBAL directions for 4 DIFFERENT TASKS and was told she would email me. In the days that followed I called the office and asked for my summary and instructions. I' was told they would be emailed. This happened three times. Nothing was emailed. I was not informed that Dr. Cortez was sick until I was also being instructed not to come back in the email shown below. It's sad that Southpaw won't take any accountability for the excessive wait, poor communication and lacking customer service. I think customer service is a thing of the past, but it's a quality that's important to me. There was no apology or anything that even approached an apology. If you value the ability to ask questions and discuss issues about your fur baby as they arise then this is not your veterinarian either.

I had to call Pet Poison Line so they could tell the vets how to treat her-that's fine-and they wanted to do a full workup on her since she is 12. I said that's fine, that's what insurance is for. It was about 11pm when I was sent home to rest while they took care of her. At about two, they called me to tell me that she survived the nightshade poisoning, but they had found a thicker spot in her intestines in the x-ray, and they wanted to do follow-up images in the morning, so I got another estimate for them to keep her til the next day and run another round of x-rays and do an ultrasound. She stayed and I went back to sleep. In the morning, a very kind vet whose name I don't remember called me and went over what is happening and why that spot could be there. She gave me advice on how to proceed after today. She asked what food my cat eats so they could give it to her there too. I was kept in the loop the whole time from when I got there to when I picked her up at 4:30pm. It set me back about $3500. Thank God for pet insurance. She can't wait to get out of the car and say hi to everybody, including the Dr, he even said she was so happy you were greeted with a friend friendly face and a hello the waiting time is minimal since I had an appointment it was worth the drive and until the next time thank you all there for making Bella and my day so nice.
