DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE!!! They are nice until something goes wrong. Especially Joe, he had me convinced they could fix the leak and assured me over and over again, if anything went wrong with their work they would take care of it. They do not honor their warranty. I entered into a contract with Family Waterproofing on 10/14/2023, to repair a leak in the wine cellar in the basement. They were going to fix the repair from the exterior by applying a black tar membrane to the foundation where the brick and foundation meet at the seam. Joe was the original contact person who came out and gave the estimate. He assured me that this was the correct solution and that they could do the job. Joe was so convincing, I felt the confidence to let Family Waterproofing do the job.On the day of the installation, 2 guys showed up uninformed and unprepared. I should have stopped it then. They were asking me where should they apply the membrane? And how much should they apply? All these questions they should have known. Furthermore, Joe told me there would be a Project Manager on site to ensure the project went according to plan. No Project Manager was present. These two guys looked and behaved like they were just hired off the streets. Joe assured me these guys were experienced and there company have did this sought of work thousands of time. After the final installment of applying black tar membrane to the foundation, several days later it rained. The wine cellar was leaking worse. They created more damage to my home, long crack on stoop bricks, large crack on side walk and hairline cracks in basement causing more leaks. Joe stopped answering his phone. They passed me off to some guy name Rob who is unprofessional and lacking knowledge of waterproofing solutions. He comes with a waterhose to simulate the rain. There was no need to do this, he could see the rain coming through the same area they supposedly fixed. He didn't come prepared to fix the leak nor did he have any solutions. They won't fix it or return my money. This is a very small company. They don't have the capacity to respond to emergency leaks. Don't get scammed by this company like I did. Go with a larger reputable waterproof company.. read more

I experienced horrible customer service and misinformation. The first guy was eager to take the deposit without fully assessing the core issue, and the 2nd one was extremely messy. Leaving things over turned as if he was in a rush. I knew right away these were not the guys that I would want to do business with. We had seepage in the basement whenever we have heavy rains and especially in the spring after the frontline thaws. Very professional without being too tight around the collar. Honest, punctual and made us feel comfortable and confidant from the start. Had our estimate done and job finished in a few days. The his was finished poorly and when the owner finally came out he said that they are not concrete workers, this is how they finish a job and he offered to refund our money and remove the system. We accepted this offer and the very next day he refused to honor his offer to us because it would throw up red flags financially. read more

My basement has been suffering water seepage for a while. I get a puddle of water after every rain, big or small. Caulked and sealed two obvious cracks that were letting water in, but that did solve the problem. Called FWS for help. Ken came out to give a free estimate/diagnosis. He is very experienced and knowledgeable. Went through different possibilities one by one. Finally spotted the problem was not the basement, rather the dated window caulking. Water finds its way into the brickwork through the old caulking and finally seeped into the basement through the mortar joint. Ken did not suggest a drain tile like the other two big waterproofing companies (if you've done your research, you know who they are). He told me to get a handyman to caulk the windows. Most honest contractor I've ever dealt with. Knowledgeable and trustworthy! read more

A good, honest waterproofer. Freddie came out after I had discovered wet carpet. He found a crack that another waterproofer had missed. But after a hose test determined that wasn't the problem and to caulk around a pipe instead. Didn't recommend any services that weren't needed. read more

We had our basement waterproofed by Family Waterproofing Solutions in mid-August. We had a real problem with seepage and water underneath the basement--it's like we have an underground stream under the house. Additionally, our sump pump ran constantly during periods of heavy rain, as often as once every three or four seconds. The first test of the new waterproofing came this weekend with the heavy rain. I am happy to report that our basement is completely dry. Also, the pump ran far less frequently during the deluge, at its height, only about once every 2 minutes. We are delighted with the work done by this company. It's a real pleasure not to have streams running along the basement floor. I highly recommend this company. read more

After getting quotes from several companies to deal with the seepage in our basement these guys came back with the lowest estimate, by far. We needed the entire perimeter floor of our basement removed and bead board laid against the wall so the water drained down into the sump pump instead of out onto our floors. They came on time and finished the job in a single day. They even came back to fix a high spot in the concrete they poured so that the tile could be installed properly. I would recommend getting several quotes to get an idea of the work you need done and decide the right solution for you as we got several different opinions from different companies. read more

I would strongly advise using ANYONE other than Family Water Proofing for your waterproofing needs. My experience has been exceptionally frustrating. When initially hired we opened up the entire perimeter of our finished basement (as instructed) so they could install the drain tile. When they came to do the work, they said they could only install about a 1/3 of the exposed perimeter and we would have to hope that was the source of the issue as well as absorb the cost of demo and refinishing the walls that were unnecessarily removed. Once complete I hired some contractors to put the walls back together and level out the floors. However, they were unable to get the floors level around the perimeter where Family Water Proofing had installed their product because the installation of the drain tile was too near grade and they had covered it with an excessive mound of concrete. So now there's basically a hill around the perimeter where they did the work- I have 32 linear feet of unusable wall and floor space. I can't push furniture up against it because it will tilt forward/ sits on a mound. I asked them if they could fix it and credit the cost for me to have the contractor come back and to re-level out the floors in that area ($700). They said they would return but with no credit because they had already "discounted" the project...the project was NOT discounted- they only did part of the initially agreed upon work and so the price was lowered accordingly. We had some heavy rainfall a couple weeks ago at which point our basement, like many others, flooded with over one inch of rain. To our surprise the connection from the pump to the plumbing in the wall was never secured- there was no coupling and as a result the connection had come lose filling our basement with rainwater!!! We would have been better off with no sump pump at all in this situation- the sump pump was THE SOURCE of the sudden and excessive influx of water (this was not sewer backup, the water was clean/ clear and had undeniably come from the area of the pump). I've been in contact with them for weeks trying to get them to come out here and correct their "guaranteed" product and have been met with a series of infuriating responses, where again they expect me to pay them fees for their poor quality services. It's rained again in the past 24 hours and we are seeing water again on our floors. I'm at a loss at what to do. read more

Ken Kirchner, the owner, checked on our foundation. The insurance adjuster told me we may have a crack in the foundation. After evaluating our foundation, Ken told me there were no cracks in the foundation. Our plumber told me there was a water pipe problem. Ken video taped the pipe that the water was coming into our family room. After viewing the video, our adjuster told me we had a valid claim. Ken and Family Waterproofing did not charge me for his evaluation. I have been having a water seepage issue for many years (well over 12) when it came to heavy rains but did not have the money to fix. Well, we're finally in a position to have it looked into. John came out and offered up some suggestions on duplicating the problem. Turns out that it was not seeping in from where we thought it was and was in fact coming in through a bad window as he suspected. As it turned out I didn't need Family Waterproofing Solutions waterproofing services. With that being said, I couldn't ask for a more HONEST, RESPECTFUL, TRUSTWORTHY, and ETHICAL contractor. If you're looking for an honest contractor among all the scammers and cheats, look no further. Thanks to the honesty of FWS, now I only have to deal with the "fast talking, raise prices by 20% to give you a 13% discount, and do the math wrong" window salesmen. This company repaired three basement cracks for us. They also encapsulated our crawl space with vinyl for a clean, white, dry crawl. We had them install a new sump pit in the corner of our crawl space. This area had never had a sump pump before. Even though it does not run often, during very heavy rains it will kick on. I think this has helped keep the crawl space area much less damp and musty. The job was done almost two years ago. After our recent subzero weather, we had an unfortunate situation. Apparently, the sump pump drain pipe had not been installed with sufficient pitch which left standing water in the pipe. In the severe cold, this water froze and blocked the drain pipe. When I called the owner Ken to explain the situation, needless to say, I was no too happy. The company sent out someone within three days to repipe the discharge and rectify the problem. At the end of the day, the most important thing you want to find in a company is that they will stand behind their work. Family Waterproofing did that for us in a timely manner. Just had an estimate for a foundation crack....told me it would be $500 if the crack was straight and $720 if it veered off. I was writing a check for $500 to secure the appointment and then he said "wait" i was wrong its significantly more. $1500 to dig the hole. What??? You are the estimator? and mentioned that my neighbors just had this done and paid roughly what you just quoted me. Got all upset and said OK....GO HIRE SOMEBODY ELSE, I'm not gonna do this job. My experience with this company was so poor that I had to write my first Yelp review. We hired Family Waterproofing Solutions to handle a standing water problem in our back yard. The final agreement was to install drain tile running across the yard left to right, which fed into 4x FloWells that were sunk into the ground in tandem pairs. Although wordy, this is the condensed description of what happened. In a nutshell - Poor communication, lack of professionalism, lack of knowledge, poor support, poor customer service. It seems like they go beyond their realm of expertise/ bite off more than they can chew and their customers end up suffering as a result. When a customer is knowledgeable and asks informed questions, they become defensive and even combative as opposed to open to discussion. ISSUES - They buried one pair of wells way over on the side of the yard, nowhere near where we agreed, and did so without asking. This changed the whole dynamic of our future plans for the back yard. - They damaged our paver patio by knocking approximately 10 edge bricks out of place, and their attempt to "fix" it was poor at best. - The drain tile feeding the wells was pitched incorrectly, with water traveling from one end of the 80ft. run of drain tile and ultimately bypassing both the well inlets, ending up in my neighbor's yard on the opposite end. It took a whole lot of convincing to even get them to listen to me about the problem, and I was repeatedly treated very poorly in my attempts to illustrate the problem. An off-the-clock salesperson was whom I settled this with, despite repeated requests to speak to his superior. The salesperson was on several occasions defensive and combative, to which he openly admitted. While on his own personal time he came and visited us on a Saturday to review the work, and after much hard-fought back & forth he agreed it was not done correctly. He said that I would be getting a call to schedule to fix, and after several days I did not receive a call. When I called to check on the schedule of the fix, the woman said it would be over a month before they came out to fix the issue! When I mentioned that I would be sending a bill for the damages my neighbor incurs as a result of the excessive amounts of water being deposited into his yard, they called me back very quickly! The fix was to be done in a few days. When they came to fix the work they did a lot more digging in the trenches, and did finally pitch it correctly, which called for more river rock to fill in. They didn't, however, bring river rock to fill the trench and would have to come back yet again to finish the job. Within the next week or so they did finally fill in the rest, but it was done so sloppily that I had to take hours to clean the stray river rock out of the area being prepped for grass seeding. - Also worth mentioning - During the initial install they obliged my request for keeping a couple bags of the "extra" river rock that was paid for with the job, but the only reason they had extra was because they didn't pitch the drain tile correctly. The foreman loudly explained that there was no extra material, but then on the sly asked me how much I wanted. I asked for 2-4 bags, and he said to go grab some while his boss wasn't there. He mentioned that the open bags were a real problem for him so I was doing him a favor. I did grab 4 total bags, and put it into my open garage. When they came back to fix the work and said they didn't bring river rock, it turns out they went into garage without my permission and took the bags that they previously said I could have! I wouldn't have had a problem giving them back if they asked, but the fact that they went behind my back and into my garage without asking me was actually really shocking to me. This "shady" approach left the worst taste in my mouth and certainly solidified my decision to write this review. Maybe check them out for small projects in the basement, but definitely do not source them for water management solutions in the yard. They need to improve their internal communication to make sure that the people completing the job & doing the labor are 100% on the same page as the salesperson/designer. I would still love to discuss this with the ownership, but they have not obliged my requests to speak with them. read more

This company is by far the best I have ever seen, dealt with or heard of for waterproofing solutions! After many years of a leaky basement that had been touched by the big name guys multiple times, Ken came out and provided solutions that would solve the real problem once and for all. We had multiple quotes and Family Waterproofing was by far the lowest cost (more than 1/2) and had backed up their work with a real warranty. The total quality of workmanship was outstanding and this repair team did not rush and paid attention to every detail. The repair was perfect and they were very careful not to mess up the inside of the house and cleaned up everything as if they were not there.
