Stumbled upon this place after driving past here! It was on Easter day, so the store was closed but decided to come back the next day. Upon walking in, the store looked like a standard "hole-in-the wall" place and had a simple selection of donuts to choose from. If you want to use a credit card, you have to spend at least $5. Donuts: I got the classic glazed donut, peanut donut, red velvet, and a cream filled donut. The glazed donut was soft and delicious. The peanut donut was more on the crumbly side but still great flavour. The red velvet had a nice cream cheese icing. The cream filled donut had a typical white cream filling. Personally, I liked the glazed donut the best - great texture and wasn't too overly sweet. The pricing here is amazing - $1.50 for great quality donuts! Easy to park on the street. There is no finer doughnut than the plain glazed doughnut at Famous Doughnuts. All these other places might try to lure you in with their fancy sprinkles and gimmicky toppings or fillings, but they all pale in comparison to the real deal. Keith Lee needs to come and make this place truly famous again, because every time I'm in there, I worry that they are going to go out of business. They have a steady customer base, but none of us are spending over $10 and I want to see a line out the door at this price point. With foods this simple, this level of perfection has to be all about the ingredients and the technique. I pass this place every single work day. Its located on the busy part of Main St across from the NFTA station. Their hours are super convenient because not many donut places are open early AND late. They have a good amount of variety (to guess, I'd say a dozen different kinds) and while I dont remember the specific cost of my order, I felt it was certainly reasonable. The best doughnuts ever. When I was a child I grew up on Freddy's Doughnuts. I believe that these are the closest resemblance to Freddy's. Nothing fancy but great doughnuts. I love the glazed twist, the glazed squares, and everything glazed. There are days that I long for Famous Doughnuts. I got thirteen amazing donuts delivered for about 18 bucks. 50% of what I eat is sugar so obviously I'm over the moon about it. Everything is delicious and arrived quickly. This is a hard one to admit ... I'm a born-and-raised WNY'er, and had never tried Famous Doughnuts! BLASPHEMY! But at least I rectified the issue! Last week I decided to have a baker's dozen DoorDashed to our doorstep. Ordering on DoorDash didn't let me select specific kinds of donuts, but I put in the notes my preferred types. My faves are typically cream-filled donuts, frosted sprinkled, sour cream glazed, and I don't mind peanut. With the exception of jelly, I usually do not discriminate against donuts. Delivery was fairly fast, and a fresh box of donuts arrived with a good assortment to my liking. And these Famous Doughnuts were pretty good! I liked the white-cream filled donuts best, both the chocolate-topped and the peanut stick-filled that were in our mix. The white cream filling was a bit stiff, more of like a wedding cake frosting consistency. That worked for me, I love that kind of frosting. The sour cream glazed were a good traditional flavor, too. It had a pleasant tangy sweetness to it. Famous Doughnuts were not tiny, but not huge Paula's behemoths either. The flavors were all traditional tastes, nothing really unorthodox that you would find at Donut Kraze. So I would say Famous Doughnuts are really an old-school, quality comfort donut option compared to those main other local homemade competitors of huge and creative doughnuts. What really took my rating from four to five stars was the excellent shelf life on these donuts! Typically after a day or two, donuts start to get really sticky and drippy on the outside, and dried out inside. But Famous Doughnuts held up for several days, with none of the frostings or glazes turning drippy at all. I wonder if this is a testament to the box itself? The front and sides of the box tucked in all the way to the bottom of the box, making a nice seal, unlike most donut boxes that usually may have larger side flaps, but a small front flap that still lets in a lot of air. If you're looking for a traditional assortment of donut flavors from a classic shop making them homemade, Famous Doughnuts is the place! Might as well grab the baker's dozen even if it is for a small crowd, because they stay fresh to enjoy for a few days. YUM! So glad I finally made it to Famous! :-D read more

We're in Buffalo and you can't have a conversation about donuts without a Paula's mention. Not going to say which one is better. In general, I prefer lighter and fluffier dough compared to Paula's dense and cakey ones - I always have to wash Paula's donuts down with something or else you feel it in your esophagus all day. The good news is I love Famous Doughnuts. There's something about those cinnamon doughnuts that will give me cravings. It means sometimes making the commute there just to get some of them. If this pandemic doesn't teach you anything ... it taught me how to appreciate a good donut. There is a popular donut shop up the road from me and they have been closed. And the need ....yes I said NEED for something sweet had been nagging at me ... probably more because it wasn't available more than anything. I rarely eat donuts. Well I had heard that Famous opened up around Mother's Day and immediately was needing to go and indulge. Popped in today with my kiddo to pick up a bakers dozen. The selection is not as huge as Paula's Donuts but if you're not looking for anything super fancy shmancy this is a good place for fresh baked donuts ... or at FD "doughnuts". The lady at the counter was very nice, I usually stick to plain when it comes to donuts/doughnuts so she took the time to tell me the different ones they had so I can please my crowd. They also serve drinks and coffee (doughnut + coffee specials), and sell lottery tickets if you're feeling lucky. There's no sitting area so it's buy and go unless you want to hang around their counter taking selfies in front of the Famous Doughnuts wall. My breakfast patrons (kiddos and hubby) enjoyed the chocolate with cream filling, glazed and cinnamon bun at home with a hot cup of tea. I was happy with my plain doughnut, it's definitely more doughy than say, Tim Horton's plain donut. The rest of the box is going to work with the hubs later. read more

With bigger brands having a monopoly on the donut business in Buffalo, I had never heard of Famous before. My boss raves about their donuts and brought some in for us as a de-stressor on Election Day. I've been searching for the perfect donut in Buffalo, and I've finally found it. Their donuts aren't too heavy and sweet, but they aren't skimpy, either. They're the perfect size and they aren't so sugary that they'll make you sick to your stomach, or that you need to cut a slice from them. They offer a good variety of flavors, too. I ate the maple dip today and it was incredible. From what I can tell, pricing is reasonable, too. They are absolutely worth every penny. Larger donut companies in the area are steeply priced with products that are good, but far from perfect. I'd say that Famous has it all. I don't think any other donut place will ever compare. These donuts were supposed to be featured in the movie "Almost Famous", until the directors found out they were, in fact, already "Famous", and they were cruelly cut from the script. That's Kate Hudson's loss, and my gain. However if they were it would explain why Brian Wilson was lying in bed... just like Brian Wilson did. Why did nobody tell me about these donuts? And if they are so famous, why had I not heard about them until recently? I ventured in here expecting crap since some of the reviews say they are crap, and all the "buzz" is about Paula's Donuts (which are absolutely awful in my opinion) and Donut Kraze (which are absolutely delicious, but not my favourite style of donut... they're the harder cake-style donuts). I stopped in here for the first time about an hour before closing and was initially disappointed to find out their famous glazes donuts were sold out, but was very pleasantly surprised to find out that their boston cream was really good too! The custard on the inside was awesome and super fresh, though I do wish the chocolate icing on top was more chocolatey. Nonetheless this was a great donut and definitely a spot to put on your Buffalo donut bucket list (that's normal to have, right?). Old fashioned donuts. That's what comes to mind when I think about Famous Doughnuts' donuts. I was first introduced to Famous Doughnuts when one of my co-workers brought in a box of their donuts to share. I'm not usually a donuts-eater, and I have a somewhat low tolerance for all things sweet, so I was a bit skeptical to partake initially. However, at my boss' prompting (it also had been quite a stressful couple weeks, which had prompted the donuts-sharing), I decided to cave in. By then (not an hour after the donuts were brought in), the two dozen donuts had been reduced to a mere handful. I took one at random and bit into it. And my life was changed. That night, I told my husband that we needed to go to Famous Doughnuts to get more of their donuts, and for the next week, I couldn't stop thinking about how good their donuts had been. I've been asked to describe Famous Doughnuts' donuts before. To this day, I'm still not sure how to describe them other than that they're old fashioned. They're not exactly airy light; there's substance to them, but they're not thick and heavy either. There's a hint of sweetness in the dough, but not too much. Everything about it, from the lightness of the texture to the sweetness of the dough, is just right. It's like "the kind of donuts grandma used to make". After eating at the pho vietnamese place on Bailey, we drove down to Famous Donuts. The parking lot is on the side of the building and the place doesn't look to clean when you walk in. Alas, i said, It might taste good. The girl behind the counter was very nice and took the time to answer all my questions even though there was a family waiting to order. I picked out a bunch with some fillings, but a lot of the donuts were non memorable. I don't even remember one that stood out from the 4-5 flavors I bought. They get some stars for being very cheap for getting a dozen and the girl behind the counter answered my question and was very nice to me.
