I had no clue that they were back open and then one day randomly someone popped up on my timeline sharing that they are open. The cherry on top is that they're even closer than their last location. Donuts are still packed with lots of deliciousness and flavor. The vegan pizza which is also my favorite can use a bit of love right now. It's not that it's not still flavorful but each time I've been able to try it it's been a bit overcooked. They are sooo delicious and everyone we have given them to agrees and doesn't even know they are vegan. Get there early because the best ones sometimes go fast. I also love their frozen pizza logs. Vegan donuts! I stopped by Fry Baby Donuts on a weekday I had off in the morning. This place is hidden conspicuously near Allen and you wouldn't really know it's there unless you are looking. The decor inside is quirky and fun. Fry Baby Donuts has well...donuts and also vegan pizza. From what I gather the flavors and types rotate so you can always try something new! Fry Baby has reopened with better hours and have really stepped up their breakfast pastry game. They've branched out from doughnuts to add pain au chocolat, cronuts, Danish, cruffins, and other flaky treats. The doughnut flavors change every week as do the flaky non-doughnut offerings whether they be croissant dough or puff pastry based. Check Instagram for their current offerings. If you get there right 8am, don't expect everything to be out yet, especially the non-doughnut items. I want to preface this by saying I am not vegan. I hardly ever eat vegan food. My coworkers and I decided to order lunch, and since two of them are vegan/vegetarian we decided to order Fry Baby. We got 4 QT pies to split between the four of us so we could each try a slice of a different pizza. The slices are huge so we have leftovers which is the best. We ordered a big mac pizza, the frankenstein, the dill pickle, and the buffalo chicken. My favorite was the Frankenstein - which was buffalo chicken on a general tso base. It was sweet, sticky, and spicy. So good. All of the pizzas were packed with flavor and on a doughy crust. I don't know how these pizzas are vegan. SO GOOD. I also got a couple of donuts to save for later. I got a HUGE apple fritter donut and a birthday cake stick donut. I had such high hopes for these after all the rave reviews, and I totally applaud anybody offering vegan anything, but man were these disappointing. I found that pretty much every donut I tried (5 different flavors) all left me with a weird artificial taste in my mouth. The fruit ones especially. And the pistachio one I ordered was inedible and I had to toss it. The chocolate caramel coconut one was one of the better ones, but I kept wondering why it had a faint bacon flavor to it, but from reading other reviews maybe it was supposed to? But there was no mention of that anywhere on the sign. Maple bacon bars are not my favorite donut so that kind of ruined what could have been a winner for me. The chocolate cake donut and the apple fritter were the best of the bunch, but even those were just average. It is a small place with 3-4 stool seats but it's more of a location to grab your donuts to go or eat them quickly. We took two to-go (maple pecan cream and cinnamon apple fritter) and heated them up for 10 sec in the microwave. If you are able, I definitely suggest doing this before devouring them. The maple glaze is what really makes the pecan cream donut special. The cream part didn't really add to it. I could definitely see the pecan pieces just sprinkled on top of the glaze. I enjoyed the apple fritter even more. Reminded me of a super cinnamony-sugary funnel cake with real! pieces of apple sprinkled throughout. We recently took a trip to Portland, OR, and had enjoyed some fancy donuts there, so when we found ourselves missing Portland the other day, I decided to stop here. I bought the raspberry blood orange, chocolate cream pie and lemon cream pie. The donuts are nice and fluffy, and I really can't tell that they're vegan. I was kind of disappointed that the chocolate cream pie and lemon cream pie donuts weren't what I expected. I thought they would be filled donuts with chocolate cream and lemon cream, respectively, but no, they were regular donuts with holes in the middle, except the hole was disguised by whipped cream. The chocolate one just had chocolate glaze on the top, and the lemon had lemon glaze-no chocolate cream or lemon cream. They were still tasty, but not what I expected based on the name or from what I could see when they were behind the counter. The base donut was identical to the raspberry blood orange one I'd also purchased. I get the feeling that most of the donuts here use the same batter for the donut itself, and that the main difference is the glaze. Which is fine, but something to keep in mind if you're trying to get a variety of donuts. I've also tried the apple fritter on another visit, which was different, though I didn't like it as much as the other ones I've eaten. They are a very welcoming business, and give off the impression of telling their customers "Welcome to Krispy Kreme! Glad you could make it from Buffalo! Come on in!" I normally dont drive in the sketchy Elmwood area that often, but when I do drive past Fry Baby Donuts' storefront, they always look permanently closed and abandoned. They're giving off the impression to "stay away from here". This is partially due to their poor store hours. And even when they are open, good luck being able to purchase a donut. Theyre probably sold out already by the time you arrive. Hope you like terrible parallel parking on a crammed downtown street, too, as they don't have theit own parking lot. Good thing that everyone wants to park in those spots when FBD is open, so you'll likely have to wait about a half hour before a parking spot opens up. I was happy to find a vegan donut place in Buffalo. Unfortunately I came near closing and they were out of some of their flavors but there were still a number of interesting flavors to try.
