I drove by this place for many years but I never thought to visit until recently. I was looking to…read morebuy Hoka shoes because I have a planned trip coming up that will require a lot of walking. I also never thought about investing in a walking shoe before but now that I am older and I feel the aches and pains that is my body, investing on a pair of good waking shoes would probably help me out. Normally, I would have purchased my shoes at the mall but as I drove past Althea's, their front advertised Hoka's. Since I was always curious about this establishment, my husband and I decided to visit. Keep in mind that this shoe store isn't your run of the mill shoe store. They specialize in orthopedic and diabetic shoe wear. Many of their clientele are referred by doctors. First off, customer service was great! They are really knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. I think everyone who worked there acknowledged us when we first entered, though we didn't get assisted until about 5 minutes in because they were all with customers. The staff who assisted me was Bill. I didn't feel at all pressured to buy from him although I had a feeling he knew I was set on buying Hokas. He let me try on two models. They didn't have the color I wanted so Bill offered to get it ordered for me with no additional/reservation charge. One week after our visit, I got my Hokas and I've been in shoes heaven since. Parking is plentiful which is always a plus! Their hours are Monday to Fridays, closing at 5pm. I really wish I went in sooner to support this business! I will definitely recommend this place.

So I followed her into the Tacoma SAS store and was greeted by Carolyn. This lady turned a lifetime of shoe shopping trauma on it's ear! Carolyn spent over an HOUR (you read it right!) fitting our difficult-to-fit feet with those shoes of incredible quality. Carolyn could easily be the poster girl for fine customer service (remember "customer service" folks?) -- a sadly rare commodity currently. This store is now our "go to" for shoes!! Note: CLOSED on Sundays. This site says open at noon on Sundays. WRONG-O!! (please update).

They were…read morereally happy with the selection and sizes, and Kay was very helpful in actually getting them into a pair that fit rather than the size they thought they needed. I really appreciate Kay talking them into trying a different size and helping them with various permutations of that size to find exactly the right fit and the right shoe. Their new comfort shoes are a lot better - thanks so much Kay and SAS Shoes, glad to have favorite relative walking better and happier, and I think also being more stable on their feet. (They also have some reasonably cute comfort shoes, but I didn't do much shopping since I was busy with my relative!) In terms of stock, on the aisle I looked at when I did a quick shop, they had very few women's shoes in sizes larger than 10, so if you have bigger feet, you may need to order. There were maybe 3+ aisles of women's shoes and 1+ aisle of men's shoes. Also I learned that SAS Shoes are made in the USA (Texas) or Italy, they're known for comfort, and if you have an older pair that's in relatively good shape you can send then back to the factory to be refitted. This store and the store on 3rd Ave NE in Seattle are both company stores rather than franchises.
