Its now our hobby and I was struggling so I thought about trying to find a good hiking boot to go check out all those great CT trails. We were told about Fred at a festival earlier this year and decided to give him a try. He was professional, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with this problem through. He was patient and understanding. We tried a few, he let me do extensive walking tests to find the right fit. We found one I liked and he helped pick out a high quality insert designed to help folks with problems like mine. Fred took the time to explain the technology behind the shoes and inserts and explained how they worked and gave us a few tips. Now I waited a few weeks to write this review as I wanted to see how I would enjoy the shoes after the purchase as this has bit me in the butt so many times previously. I have to say they are by far the most comfortable thing my horrendous feet have ever had the pleasure of walking in. I am now going 5+ miles a day without issues and only growing stronger. Thank you Fred, you were wonderful and did a great job helping me! We have used them like 10x already and no regrets. Worth every penny. It is also pretty important to me to be able to try on the boots before purchasing, which in some cases is nearly impossible (Red Wing apparently won't even stock a mens size 7, which is what my equivalent would be). Montano's has been around since 1906, wow that is long time! They provide professional fitting services, Pedorthic care, and specialized inventory targeted to foot health support. Montano's has a variety of high-quality work-boot brands including Red Wing, Chippewa, Thorogood, Danner, Irish Setter, and Timberland. They have a variety of athletic and hiking footwear brands such as Merrell, Keen, Hoka, On Running, and Salomon. There is a selection catered to casual and comfort as well; brands include Dansko, Birkenstock, Blundstone, UGG, and Vionic. Fair warning, it's not cheap to shop here. You are buying pretty much the best-of-the-best with a professional service. Some of these work boots are easily $200+ and the specialty insoles are running $65+ so keep that in mind when shopping. I was able to kill two birds with one stone by buying my stepdad his birthday present and my mom a new pair of shoes for Mother's Day. It wasn't cheap but they are worth it, plus I don't get to see them as much as I would like. The Red Wings he chose were $200, the specialty insoles cost $65 and Mom's shoes were $120. All the items are of high quality and should last them until my next visit, lol. Staff were very friendly and helpful. From the moment we walked in we were treated with respect and one of the associates accommodated both my family members with all of their fitting needs. I just purchased a new pair of Keens recently for work but I was really interested in trying out a pair of Thorogood's. The problem is if I tried them on, I probably would have bought them. I just don't need another pair now but the selection here seems like an excellent choice for a future work boot. I might be back next year once I ware my Keens out. All-in-all, Montano's Shoe Store is an excellent spot to find great service and high-quality footwear for any occasion. I highly recommend visiting them if you in Saugerties shopping.

Snarky, rude and poor customer care…read more There is a sales woman with brown long hair and light eyes who was unapologetically rude and ruined her own sale. My husband was carefully replacing a few socks that my daughter (3yo) had disturbed from their place on display. The saleswoman started to wave her hand frustratedly in my daughter's direction, while repeating "could she NOT! Could she NOT!" Lady, she's 3! And it was being refolded and replaced. I hope the owner knows that I walked OUT. I was planning on spending several hundreds of dollars but, because of that poor attitude, why would I support a brand that hires staff like that?!? When my husband told the woman that this was unacceptable and he was replacing the items to their original place and folding them, she proceeded to tell him to "get a grip sir!" Staff training on customer care is lacking and should immediately be addressed!
