Last time I was here the food was cheap it was only $15, and today I had to spend $25 dollars for the same exact plate and it wasn't even by weight she was guessing prices and was looking in the container to see what we got ,she saw we had chicken wings only 3 of them and it was small and she said that alone is 12 dollars so I'm confused on how they price the food over here and she had a attitude the whole time.

While visiting another establishment in Rockland County I decided to try Fancy buffet. They have a weigh & carry out option. I've heard so much about Haitian black rice, but there aren't many Haitian restaurants in my area that I am aware of. They have two locations, Haverstraw and Spring Valley. I went and grabbed a container and added a sample amount of various items. Everything was good including the black rice. It's dark because it's made with a certain type of mushroom. They had a lot of options. Maybe 15 to 20. Everything was decent, and if I find myself in the area again I would visit. It cost about $11-12.

Overcooked dry chicken, just terrible.

Ripoff Alert- Plate Weight and Tax This place tried to rip me off twice on my first visit. First- they sell food by weight on heavy plates, they weighed my order without subtracting my plate weight. I told the lady and she did not tare the scale, it was now 1/2 price paying for food only weight. RIPOFF ARTISTS Second- my meal was $5.50 I gave her $6. She said no change due to tax. Thats BS. The difference is actually like 5 cents, but the point is she kept the 5 cents and didn't ring tax into the register. Dishonest BS Food 12 noon lunch Fried chicken was so dry I couldn't chew it. Fried pork was like a stone, un-eatable Fried fish was seasoned well, tasty but very dry, it seemed old. Avoid This Place

I love the fact that I can actually get some home grown food whenever I come around this area, because their is no Caribbean/Haitian food restaurant near me what so ever. I am willing to travel half an hour to get some food made from my culture. I'm sorry to be bias but nothing comes close to Haitian food in my opinion. I personally think the place should be lit up a little more than the dark they present but besides that I can't complain l. Great food but the service can be a little better, I placed a catering order for an 11am pick up when they open the store and no one was there to open up the door. I had to call their other location to find out the ETA for when their going to open up the doors. Theirs no excuse for opening late, but that's what you get at times from old fashion peoples. Most definitely a spot I will always recommend to anyone who ask.

Damn! That's some tasty food!…read more Bored of the usual rotation of restaurants, I thought I'd head into Spring Valley and give this place a try. They serve Jamaican food / Caribbean. Website? Nope. A menu? Not really. So I just drove there, went inside and nobody was around. Be patient - it's very chill here. Eventually, the chef/owner, I'm assuming, pops his head out and was such a delight! Very friendly, offered tastings of everything and explained what he was serving that day. The menu, you see, is just written on a dry erase board and fresh food is cooked daily. If he runs out, that's it. Today's menu started with stewed chicken, BBQ chicken, oxtail, curry goat, curry chicken, jerk pork, jerk chicken, Mac and cheese, callaloo, ackee and cow foot soup. There are about 10 or so tables inside and even a bar. Most people here seem to get takeout. On the tables were bottles of Jamaican scotch bonnet pepper sauce for extra kick. I tasted a couple things before deciding on the oxtail, the jerk pork and the curry chicken. The jerk here is the real deal! The aroma, spices, juiciness and flavor of charcoal grilling. OMG. So good! They sell food in small, medium and large containers. I opted for entrees that come with rice and beans, plus sauteed cabbage. Everything was delicious, but that jerk was outstanding. Prices seemed fair for the portions and freshness of the food. There are no written prices, but just ask and he'll happily convey them to you. Tropical Delicacy is in a very small strip mall, but I'd say there's adequate parking. Definitely give this one a try. He's open for lunch too and often sells out of things already after lunch is over.

I would keep recommending this restaurant over almost all Caribbean restaurants. Very friendly staff always. The ambiance is well chilling. Also very cool and comfy seating area.

However, this is a hidden gem you should try. It appears to be a family owned restaurant. Decor is light and seating is sparse, so if you plan to bring a party of 4 or more I'd definitely suggest calling ahead to potentially make a reservation. We also came on an extremely hot day and sadly their A/C system wasn't working so it was on the warmer side. Not unbearable but a bit uncomfortable, so just keep that in mind if that's the case when you show up. What I will say when it comes to the experience and food is that it doesn't get more authentic than this. I asked for a recommendation and was told to order the griot, which was well seasoned and quite large portion size wise. The plate came with a rice of choice, two fried plantain, beans, pikliz and dipping sauce for the meat. Not bad for $20. I ordered to go because I had an event to go to, but can attest that they do a great job of plating their dishes when you dine in. If I'm ever in NYC again I wouldn't mind returning, dining in and hopefully trying something different like their Kalalou or legume which looks incredible.
