I went for breakfast and had the tres golpes--mangú, eggs, salami, fried cheese. This a a very basic breakfast...like the Dominican version of an English breakfast. The mangú was hard and lacked the creaminess you'd get if it was made with butter. The eggs and fried salami were fine because you can't really mess those up. The cheese was terrible. The cheese that makes up this dish is a firm white cheese that has a very high melting. It's similar to haloumi but less salty. When shallow fried it gets a nice golden crust at the edges and remains firm and creamy on the inside. The folks at this place deep fried it and so it resulted in a very hard crunchy and unpleasant texture and since the slices were cut on the thin side, the creamy inside of the cheese was non-existent.
