I have a now 11 year old dog named Shin-Shin who we got as a puppy and was not trained properly. He was aggressive towards every living thing that wasn't a main family member but I knew he was a sweetie inside and wanted others to experience his kinder side. I took 8 training sessions and while he may not be perfect being as his old habits have stuck a bit, he's much more manegeable. My partner, who doesn't live with me, has admitted that he's like a different dog now. Before Shin-Shin made my partner nervous and always looked ready to attack but can now cuddle with him. It takes a lot of patience and observation to understand a dog and surely a lesson learned for any future pets I may have in the future. When Daisy was very young and could not attend puppy classes, I had them come in for a private lesson in basic training. 180.00 for 2 hours. Though Daisy excelled with her private training, I felt I could do even better price wise. Ya see, all I need is another person to act as a prop. I hired the local crack head. It saved me lots of money. All he had to do was stand there while I teach Daisy to walk up to strangers and sit. She learned in ten minutes. By the end of the hour, she learned to sit unleashed while he walked back and forth and got closer and closer to her, without her playful lunge! This morning I was playing with Daisy when we heard a loud knock on the door. "Let's go see who it is, Daisy" I peeped the balcony to see my attorney downstairs. I squealed like Mr. Bill. "Oh nooooooo" Damn...what now? His wife sent him on a reconnaissance mission to make sure I was doing alright. Nice to know that the people who count have my back. She always let me bother her with all of my questions- which were many. I got a dog from a shelter a few months ago and after I brought her home I soon realized my peril. She is energetic, chew-aholic, disobediant, and ocasionally naughty. Sierra the DogPact teacher helped me (and the entire class) to learn ways to train my dog. It has worked superbly. I see such an improvemnet in my dog and in myself. I really am enjoying my pet a lot more because I know how to enforce some training- which I didn't before the class. So, I fell in love with a creature that is half sheepdog and half poodle and we named him Ollie.  I…read moreknew he  would be a handful as he had the potential to have the characteristics of both breeds: stubborn (sheepdog) and smart (poodle).  We needed help with training and were referred Nicole @ Walking with Paws by a trusted friend.    We began our training with Nicole when Ollie was about 8 weeks old.  Nicole worked closely with us in a one-on-one environment,  and in a group setting to create a custom training experience.  We even took field trips to train Ollie in different places - neighborhood parks, HB's Tuesday Street Fair, Dog Parks and an outdoor mall.   Nicole was patient with us, and Ollie, helping work through a very difficult "herding" phase. With Nicole's help, Ollie took and passed the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC), Community Canine Test (CGCA) and Urban Canine Good Citizen Test (CGCU).  Ultimately he was certified as a therapy dog with Therapy Dog International.  There were no shortcuts to these certifications. It was hours and hours of training Ollie to handle many different scenarios.  Nicole was the central part in making sure we, and Ollie, had the knowledge and skills to earn these certifications. I am so very appreciative that Nicole provided the tools to help Ollie become a well adjusted member of our family --  without losing his dog spirit.   Everyday Ollie does something that reminds me of Nicole and what a wonderful job she did helping us train this incredible creature. Nicole remains one of Ollie's favorite people to this day.

I can't say enough good things about Andrew from Leader of the Pack OC. After trying two other…read moretrainers, one strictly positive reinforcement, and another online, I was starting to feel like I'd never get real control over my two small dogs (poodle/terrier/bichon mixes, 20 lbs each). One of them, Mocha, had repeatedly gotten loose and chased people and dogs, and even nipped once. Lily, the younger one, was starting to copy his bad habits. I was honestly overwhelmed. Then a neighbor recommended Andrew. From the first session, I could see this was different. We did five in-home training sessions using e-collars, something I had tried before with poor results. In the past, Mocha would shut down with e-collar use: hiding between my legs, refusing treats, and basically going into avoidance mode. But with Andrew's guidance, both dogs adapted quickly and comfortably. By the third session, they were walking calmly by my side, off leash, with the leash literally dragging on the ground, something I never imagined I'd see. But it didn't stop there. Their behavior at home transformed. No more chewing walls, no more accidents inside from Lily, and Mocha stopped spraying constantly on walks. Even behaviors we hadn't directly worked on started improving. They were calmer, more respectful, and somehow still the same affectionate, happy dogs, just with clear boundaries now. And they listen. They come when called, even at a distance, even with distractions, even at the park. It's like a whole different relationship now, I finally feel like we're connected in a way that's calm, respectful, and fun. With the new boundaries they've learned, I now have more control, and they actually have more freedom. On long walks in nature, they're able to enjoy time off leash because I know they'll listen to me when I talk to them. They will immediately come if there are distractions or dangers. That balance of trust and freedom has changed everything for us. The can be off leash without getting into mischief. One of the most incredible moments for me was when I told them to sit outside, walked 40+ feet away, and they just stayed seated, watching me. That kind of control used to feel impossible. And keep in mind, this is with two dogs, trained together, not in separate sessions. Other trainers had told me that couldn't be done. Andrew proved them wrong. Andrew is also incredibly professional and responsive, he was always on time, gave me a discount for the second dog, and was available by text throughout the week to answer questions between sessions. After the in-home training, he also hosts weekly group training sessions in the park, where you can reinforce the skills in a real-world setting with other dogs, bikes, skateboards, etc. These sessions are just as valuable as the private ones. In short, this training changed my life with my dogs. It was worth every penny and far exceeded my expectations. My family can't believe the change. My neighbors have noticed the change. My dogs are thriving, and I'm finally able to enjoy them without constant stress or fear. Andrew didn't just train my dogs, he helped rebuild my relationship with them. I am so grateful.
