This was a great experience for anyone wanting a little excitement on their trip to Big Bend! Our guide Marty was awesome. As a native of the Chihuahua desert, she was very knowledgeable about the terrain and history. Not only did we have so much fun, but we learned a lot. We have so much respect for the people who live there.

What a great experience on our Far Flung jeep tour. Our three hours was led by Reed who provided us exceptional information. He was knowledgeable and engaging throughout. I highly recommend this experience!

Awesome experience! It was so cool riding the Rio grande. First time ever doing that and the guides were super cool and explained everything perfectly. Would do it again!

I want to start by saying that every person we interacted with here was incredibly friendly and helpful. Bill handled our reservations and made everything work for us despite their packed schedule. We originally missed our morning tour due to our phones not updating for daylight savings time. (Quick note: Because this area is so close to Mexico, which doesn't observe daylight savings, your phone may not switch over correctly--so double-check! I also think it would be helpful if the reservation team asked guests what time their phone shows, since they're likely aware of this issue.) That said, when we arrived late, the woman at the desk (I wish I remembered her name) was so kind. Instead of just saying "too bad," she worked with us to reschedule for another day that fit our plans. We really appreciated that level of service. Canoe Half-Day Excursion: We did this during spring break, and unfortunately, this was the one disappointing part of our experience. We knew the water levels were low, but we didn't fully understand how that would impact the tour. Of course, water levels are beyond the company's control, but in this case, the excursion just wasn't worth it. First, we had to drive an hour to the drop-in location. After paddling downriver for a bit and stopping for water, we had to paddle back upriver--which took us by surprise. Normally, river trips involve being dropped off at one point and picked up at another. I assume the low water levels made that impossible. The scenery was also underwhelming--just dead grass along the riverbanks, with no views. Again, not Far Flung's fault, but I wish we had been given a clearer picture of what to expect. Had we known, we would have skipped it and used that time for something else. The guides were great--it definitely wasn't their fault. If you're considering this tour, I'd recommend only booking it when water levels are higher, which would likely allow for better routes and scenery. 360 Jeep Tour Excursion: This tour, on the other hand, was absolutely worth it. Even my 10- and 11-year-olds enjoyed it! Our driver, Richard, was fantastic--knowledgeable, engaging, and fun. He called the experience "edutainment," and that's exactly what it was. The tour covered the area's geography, flora, and fauna in a way that was both educational and entertaining. The next day, we actually ran into Richard while visiting Santa Elena Canyon. Had I known that was a tour option, I might have picked that instead--but either way, our tour was a great experience. Ours was a private tour, which I'd recommend over a group setting if possible. Overall Thoughts Far Flung is a great company with excellent service. Just be mindful of weather conditions when planning your visit--this area is currently in a three-year drought, which significantly impacts water-based activities. We didn't realize that beforehand, and it made a difference in our experience. If you're visiting, I highly recommend checking water levels before booking any river excursions. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with their land-based tours!

This place was the best place we have stayed in over the last few years visiting Big Bend and Terlingua. Highly recommend and we will be staying here again and again! The service from Bill at the front desk was so kind and personable, we so appreciate him! ...not to mention the comfortable beds, and the cabin was awesome! We enjoyed soaking in the hot tub nightly while we watched the sunset. the highlight of our trip was the River Canoe ride with Liz and Molly. They were friendly, knowledgeable, fun and great guides as we canoed for two hours they taught us about Big Bend, geology and conservation. They were great with my son as well. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Mountain views on one of our stops

My girlfriend and I decided on a whim to schedule an ATV tour for a breezy saturday and that was the best idea we had of our vacation. I drove and she rode behind me and we both had a blast. Taking in the views and stopping occasionally to take pictures or talk about Big Bend was amazing. Truly can't give enough of a shoutout to Chris and Mike for giving us this experience! They were both knowledgable and incredibly nice. If you're debating whether to do it or not, just book the tour already! You will not regret it!

We wanted to be driven around to see things in our tour so we could come back and explore more. So, we took a 4 hour Jeep tour. My wife and I have taken tours like this here in the US and other countries. This is one of the best we've had. We went with another couple and were all in the back of the Jeep. What didn't work: We're had a windy day and being in the open air jeep was chilly! What did work: Booking seemed easy. Our friend booked it so I'm guessing it was pretty straight forward Nice, friendly people in the office Great little coffee shop Easy parking. We have a dually, so need space to park! Jeremy, historian, nature enthusiast, story teller, scholar, area ambassador, unbiased neutral ranch insider, medicine man and plant whisperer, was a tour guide extraordinaire! We appreciated the depth of his experience in the local area and walked away with a deeper understanding of this beautiful National Park, the area and the voices from both sides. It was a great experience!

Great to work with. I had to make several adjustments to my tours and they were very helpful. Did the jeep tour and atv. Fun and informative. Wonderful guides.

The coffee is fine, speciality but pretty simple, and the food works, but I'm confident this spot is so popular for their other offering. The aesthetic pet friendly patio, spacious interior, variety of plants, and purchasable local artwork set it apart for anything and everything you'll find in the area. In fact, if you have a couple minutes to spare, it's worth stopping in, grabbing a drink, and treating the spot like a museum/local store. We showed up early for our ride with Terlingua Stables, while we had some time to burn, we dropped by to grab some coffee. It looked like it opened slightly earlier the day prior, and the day we got there it was as if they were still getting ready at 8:20am. I was glad to have this place open during the Terlingua "slow" season. They had three types of drip available, and I tried one of their muffins. I think for the most part the other patrons in the shop/cafe. The menu has sandwiches, toasts, breakfast snacks. So, if you had time, at breakfast or lunch, food is an option. The staff were nice. The cafe and shop were clean. The shop had a variety of things for sale - cool gear, cool snacks, cool coffee, cool art. They have art for sale, and big art, small art... shirts with art on them. Liz picked up a light long sleeve shirt to cover her arms during our times outside. There's a cool painting of John Wayne outside the bathroom for about $1,200. There is a bigger but similar style mural of Willie Neslon in the main shop area. It looks real cool. They have African statues and masks from all over. In the cafe portion, you can find plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Liz enjoyed her coffee in the unusually cool and breezy July morning outside. Solid 3.5 and great place for coffee and art.

We have checked out and left the place better than we found it. We swept up about 4 pounds of hair and dust. We could not contend with the mouse infestation, cleaning up several dead mice, and lots of droppings, despite keeping our food in storage. Maggie, the burro, is a sweet girl but she limited what we could do on the property. She wouldn't move when we needed her to and she wouldn't let us out of the house. The vrbo description led us to believe it would be very private with a hot tub. We felt like we were eye to eye with our neighbors. We are relocating to another property and that is costing us additional funds that we did not intend to spend. We'd like a refund for the 2 nights that we will not be staying on the property. Thank you
