Although I was only in the area for 4 days, Venga became a morning ritual. Sunrise, coffee and breakfast at Venga, run my day, sleep and repeat. The coffee is fine, speciality but pretty simple, and the food works, but I'm confident this spot is so popular for their other offering. The aesthetic pet friendly patio, spacious interior, variety of plants, and purchasable local artwork set it apart for anything and everything you'll find in the area. In fact, if you have a couple minutes to spare, it's worth stopping in, grabbing a drink, and treating the spot like a museum/local store. One of the few places that are open in the morning. The doors to what might be Terlingua's more modern building open daily at 8:00am. We showed up early for our ride with Terlingua Stables, while we had some time to burn, we dropped by to grab some coffee. It looked like it opened slightly earlier the day prior, and the day we got there it was as if they were still getting ready at 8:20am. I was glad to have this place open during the Terlingua "slow" season. They had three types of drip available, and I tried one of their muffins. I think for the most part the other patrons in the shop/cafe. The menu has sandwiches, toasts, breakfast snacks. So, if you had time, at breakfast or lunch, food is an option. The staff were nice. The cafe and shop were clean. The shop had a variety of things for sale - cool gear, cool snacks, cool coffee, cool art. They have art for sale, and big art, small art... shirts with art on them. Liz picked up a light long sleeve shirt to cover her arms during our times outside. There's a cool painting of John Wayne outside the bathroom for about $1,200. There is a bigger but similar style mural of Willie Neslon in the main shop area. It looks real cool. They have African statues and masks from all over. In the cafe portion, you can find plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Liz enjoyed her coffee in the unusually cool and breezy July morning outside. What a fun little spot! Celebrated my wife's birthday with some glamping nearby and hit this joint on our way out of town. It's a fun mix of art studio meets gift shop meets outdoor store meets coffee shop meets restaurant. The vibe was something that would totally work even in the biggest city. My wife opted for the avocado toast, which was huge and piled high with all the goodness you'd expect. I opted for the breakfast burrito. The food was great, the salsa served with the burrito was so flavorful and not overly spicy. The food was maybe a little too expensive, but we're in the middle of nowhere, so I get it. Cannot complain one iota about the food or vibe. Some of y'all will probably roll your eyes for the reason for my one missing star. They don't have an espresso machine. I mean, call me a big city guy, but when I see a place advertising COFFEE, I assume they run the gamut: lattes, espressos, etc. Nope, this joint just offers black coffee, which disappointed my fru fru coffee drinking wife. Had to stop in Alpine for her fix. I'd be interested to know why they don't sell espresso drinks because I think they'd sell ... Overall: definitely worth a visit. read more

The lady "helping" did more grunting than speaking, more eye rolling than looking at us. I know there are not a lot around, but try somewhere else. Both of us are native Texan so we skipped the BBQ place (for natives, "good" BBQ is only great when it's your own, ha!). But we'd go ahead and go there before this place. read more

When dining in Terlingua, I typically think I am grading on a curve. There isn't a lot down in these here parts, so I appreciate what is. With all of that being said, Venga is a 5-star breakfast joint anywhere! It was so good, it was our only repeat restaurant during our 4 days in the Big Bend region. Venga is a little more fancy looking that the rest of the area but it's not fancy. It's......modern. Part breakfast/lunch restaurant, part coffee shop and it's also a place to grab a souvenir or some basic outdoor gear. Our 1st morning here, I got a basic ham, onion and peppers omelet and some sort of multi grain toast. Everything was delicious and yet so simple. The second visit I went with the breakfast tostadas. 2 tostadas with chorizo beans, breakfast potatoes, cilantro and cotija cheese. These were amazing. I also got a side of bacon. The bacon was cooked to the perfect combination of meaty/chewy and crisp (which is rare for me to find). it was my favorite meal of the trip. What an awesome place to eat at. Not only are they friendly and the food is great but you get to check a lot of local artists work around the establishment. The food was fairly priced, the service was attentive and the restaurant itself was clean and decorated very well. It was fun to eat and just look at around at really dope art and see how much it would be to take it home. I did not expect something like this for being out in the middle of nowhere but I'm really happy we were all able to stop and enjoy some great food and fun vibes. Venga exceeded my expectations. The trendy building sticks out like a sore thumb in Terlingua and admittedly, I was initially reluctant to visit. However, their support of local artists won my heart. This coffee shop and café is unique and very trendy. Though the indoor is beautiful the outdoor seating section is my favorite. Great spots to take in the view and sip coffee. Beautiful interior , very bad attitude We've visited this location twice, and unfortunately, both experiences were disappointing with the people taking the order. On each visit, we were served by different waitresses, but the attitude was consistently poor. There was no warmth, no smile, and no sense that they wanted to be there. As guests, we did not feel welcomed at all. It's a shame because the interior is absolutely beautiful and thoughtfully designed. However, the service does not match the environment. The staff would benefit from improving their professionalism and customer service skills. read more

I rarely leave reviews, but this restaurant is well worth the time to let others know of my experience. I went for a late lunch with my dog after driving from Austin. The people working there are incredibly nice and dogs are welcome. It is a very comfortable environment with seating areas, including couches and then tables and chairs. There's also a nice outdoor area, but it was too hot for us to sit there today. I ordered a Smashburger and I have to say I haven't had a burger this good in years. It was incredibly tasty, large enough to satisfy my appetite and great flavor. I had fries on the side and they were delicious as well and I'm not a french fry guy. Super cute spot! Went in for lunch on a Thursday around 11 and it was pretty quiet. A few employees were hanging art to sell on the walls and watering plants. The reviews said the food takes forever to come out, but not for us. It was ready in about 15 min and was delicious! I had the beef fajita burrito with rice and beans on the side. Food was the best meal we had throughout our Marfa/Big Bend weekend. I had the chorizo omelette and my boyfriend had the chorizo breakfast burrito. Food prep does take a bit, so if you're in a hurry, order one of the grab & go items from the counter. The space itself is open, with plenty of tables & seating options indoors and outdoors. There are lots of both leashed & unleashed dogs that come in with customers which was awesome for us since we're dog lovers, but just a heads up if you're not. People don't come to Terilingua for fine dining or great food. Most people are here for Big Bend so it's a trade off from adventure vs great food. This is probably the best food offered in this town. I can only comment on breakfast, we never made it back from the park early enough to try lunch and they close early. The breakfast burrito is pretty packed with flavor and great portion. I ordered the egg and cheese burrito with spinach, grilled peppers and onions. My husband had the chorizo and egg. Both were tasty. The salsa was too sweet for my liking. My husband said his coffee was good. We ordered online and by the time we got there, food was ready. I ordered the breakfast croissant with egg and cheese the first time and it was not very good. The croissant seemed old. Don't bother with it. I'm glad I gave it another chance with the burrito. Just something else we observed that made zero sense. Their handicap parking is on the side and has a ramp for wheelchairs, however, the entire patio to get to the door is covered with good size rocks. You will not be able to navigate a wheelchair through the patio to get to the side door and the front entrance is steps only. read more

I could live here. This is an incredibly beautiful and well designed building that blends well with the Terlingua landscape. The menu is pretty basic (for now). I just grabbed a soda and sat at one of the long wood tables while admiring (and lusting after) this stunning interior. A colorful painting of Willie Nelson hangs on the thick concrete wall. Frankly, I don't care if Venga served only water. I'll be a return visitor if only to nerd out on the architecture. read more
