But here in Spirit Lake (on vacation), this Walmart is a life line for selected groceries, toiletries, and supplies for the Cabin. I think I was here 3 times during our last visit. As I know what I'm looking for while here, it's usually an easy in and out. When I get turned around in part of the store, I've found it pretty easy to find store staff to help me forward. The key purchase this time was a sweatshirt for Gayle. It was a little colder here than what we packed for....and she wore it a lot during our week here.

Friendly smiles upon entry, plenty of carts, bathrooms near entry, clearly marked sections with big blue signs with white lettering. The grocery section has a fresh produce section as large as a regular grocery store and everything I bought was fresh. There is also a large frozen food section with an entire side of an aisle dedicated to ice cream/desserts. Only in the Midwest! The center of the store is dedicated to men's and women's clothes. I found some awesome PJs here as well as intimates for low prices. Walmart does a good job at buying and setting low prices. I found some awesome buys like men's PJ pants, women's undies, and baseball caps all at low prices under 10! The best department/experience was the Electronics. The floor manager came over and talked to me about the TVs I was looking at and helped me by explaining the difference in everyone I was looking at. Each cashier I experienced was super friendly and truly interested in knowing about my shopping experience. A+ to this store! I feel that it must be managed well to have a crew of helpful employees. Plenty of parking too!

I discovered this store when driving by and saw a good price on Chuck Roasts on their electronic billboard. We stopped and I bought a bunch of meat to freeze. Very good beef and pork so far. They have a in-store bakery, deli, small produce department, and a good selection of merchandise. Some prices are high, but like I said I come to stock up on sale items. Have been back several times. Friendly and helpful employees.

This service station has been around long before I was a young kid out of nearby Estherville Iowa. It truly is an Iowa Great Lakes Landmark, as they just don't make service stations like this any more. Beside gasoline, Vick's corner offers an RV Campground, annual antique/flea markets on Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labour Day, fishing supplies (including bait), propane, ice, fire wood, U-Haul trailer rental, beer, pop, and other snacks, shot gun shells, and of course some colourful local opinion. The family home is also located on the property, so if no one is around, all you have to do is knock!

We said we weren't in a hurry and could wait, to which he rudely stated that he would not cash it because he didn't have time. Will not be back. Customer service is officially dead.

This Hy-Vee is huge by small town standards, so learning the grocery store takes a bit more time here. We found everything we needed, but it did take a little more time to figure it all out. I like that Hy-Vee Liquors is attached to the main store and that the wine and beer selection is really good. In hindsight, we over shopped, maybe because we were hungry after a long drive. Our cart did include a bag of chips which were reasonable priced. Check-out was chatty and efficient, and soon we were on our way. Touch up shopping would be done later at the Spirit Lake Hy-Vee.
