After my old favorite food truck (Grub Shack) was forced to shut its doors yesterday, this new truck may take the top spot after my experience yesterday, with a few small changes in order.
Chuck B had reviewed this spot the other day and made mention the they would be extending their hours on 6/22 for a gathering of sorts. I was already out at Minto Brown and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to check it out.
The place was packed, despite the crummy weather. The truck was pumping out food, the wood-fire stove was churning out pizzas and a live band was hammering out the tunes. It was an awesome experience. There was a temporary covered area with tables for eating, and a permanent barn-like area with additional spots and beer for purchase.
The only minor hiccup was what the large crowd did to the pace of the food being made. To be fair, the woman who took my order remarked that they had no idea that this number of people would be in attendance. Therefore the line was long and the cooks were visibly rushed (and probably stressed). This caused some pizzas to be burned in the oven and slices to be cut smaller then they (and I) would have liked. Thy also ran out of dough at one point and had to rush to get someone to bring more. Even so, they were in good spirits and continual apologies were given. One such apology was edible, as they passed out complimentary "Caesar salads" (a big green leaf of lettuce -almost like a lettuce wrap- with croutons and Caesar dressing). Delicious. We paid for 2 slices of pizza (3.50 for 1, 6.00 for 2, or 10.00 for all-you-can-eat). The latter is probably the best deal, as our slices were pretty small for the price. However, the Spinach Ricotta Pizza was delicious, even to a picky 2 year old.
I really appreciated the effort given, and the event really did have a community feel. Better weather and being better ready to handle possible large crowds will definitely make this place top moth. They also had their local produce on site- which looked great as well.
I was told that they are much less packed during the week, so this may be a good time to check out the deliciousness in a more subdued environment. read more
