My boyfriend got the teriyaki plate he really liked but said the chicken could do without being so charred but gave it good flavor and the season was on point. I have been dying to try this place for the LocoMoco which was a good portion the gravy was all the egg was over easy and meat was good! Alittle dense but went well with all the gravy definitely came SMOTHERED. They saw we came with our daughter and packed us a small bowl for her so we could share our plates. We were headed back to Portland from Eugene and stumbled upon a gem of food delight...the service was personable and sweet, the Kalua Moco was insanely tasty, the pork had a char on the edge and a hint of wood smoke, the rice was buttery good and the eggs cooked perfectly. Having lived in Hawai'i, it's so difficult to find great Hawaiian food. I randomly looked up Hawaiian grindz in town and I'm so glad I stumbled upon Island Grubz On the Go! I ordered the Loco Moco and the Garlic Shrimp and both taste sooooo delicious! The shrimo have skin - which makes them more flavorful. The mac salad was so delicious! The people there are so nice and friendly. The ambiance is what you would expect for food trucks. Their space is clean as well. They took my order fast and they cooked them right then and there. It's a food truck which made me even miss Hawai'i more. You won't miss it since it's bright orange! They have tables/benches if you decide to eat there. Parking wasn't an issue since there's plenty. Love local. This place didn't disappoint - food was legit, not heavy or greasy. Ate without any sauces and it was still delicious. Service was what we are missing in the world. They wouldn't accept a tip, NOR DID THE ASK for one when paying. It was 5:35pm - 25 min before closing and they were ready and HAPPY to serve. Service was quick for fresh food - waiting maybe 10-15 minutes for three meals and two customer ahead of us. The kicker - they kicked out a full shave ice while we waited in the heat - again, Thisnis what we need more of! I've already recommended to friends and will continue to. Island grubs on the go is a hidden gem!!! Rich & Julie should the island love in the plates we got. Loco moco was so delicious with the smothered mushroom gravy. The kalbi & garlic shrimp mix plate was an exquisite perfect amount of savory. Of course you have to get dessert! We got shave with ice cream melon flavor was recommended by the chef with the snow cap topping drizzling all over it's like having a little bite of icee heaven so yummy it's a must . Its location in the coolest spot, the island music, outdoors, under a tent, cool breeze it's like having some island grubs back home in Hawaii . The food, the hospitality, the ambiance was so Ohana we came back again the next day. We had to try the chicken katsu which was my favorite of all it was yummy scrumptious Ono. . & you can't forget the Kalua pig & cabbage. The flavoring was sensational amazing just melting in my mouth. Stopped by the Fussy Flea today, and Island Grubz On The Go's bright orange truck was the first thing that caught my eye as I drove in to the parking lot. After shopping I went to the truck and I opted for the Kalua Pig (shredded/pulled pork) and Cabbage, which includes two scoops of white rice and one of Hawaiian mac salad. I also got a side of one scoop of mac for $2 more. Believe me when I tell you, I made nothing but good choices!! It was a bit of a difficult choice, because everything on their menu sounded AMAZING!! The owners were incredibly friendly, truck was clean (they also have a really cool sign on the side), and my food was up very quickly! When I opened my to-go container, I was greeted by a beautiful sight! The Kalua Pig was SOOOOOOOOO delicious, very well seasoned and balanced, tender and moist, with the right amount of smoke and salt. The (cooked) cabbage mixed with the pork still had some good crunch, but was not hard. The rice was also cooked well (I mention this because, with white rice, there's always a risk of overcooking and then it becomes gluey - not here!!). But, their mac salad? UNBELIEVABLE! Hawaiian mac salad is rarely more than just a few ingredients, but they absolutely nailed theirs!! Again, great balance of flavors and the perfect amount of salt. Another plus? The portions were very generous! I was full after the "main" meal, but it still took willpower I didn't even know I had to save my second scoop of mac salad for later. (I caved around the 2-hour mark, and I regret nothing.) 10/10, A++++++++++++, cannot recommend highly enough!! Definitely going back the first chance I get!! read more

Best Hawaiian food in Salem! I've tried the kalbi short ribs and the garlic chicken and have really enjoyed both. Their most recent review is five stars from someone who has reviewed 43 Hawaiian restaurants, so that should tell you all you need to know. A lot of restaurants in the area are not open on Monday, and I know that is due to business being slower generally, but I would be there if you ever open on Monday!
