Every teacher cares about each of my children and each benefits from academic, athletic, and social emotional learning as the individuals they are. From the voice of my 4th grader: "I feel like we made the right transition to move to The Country School. TCS is just different. In a good way. It's not like any school I've ever known. I didn't know schools like TCS even existed. At my old school, I always had my hand up - knowing more than I was learning. I don't always have my hand up but that's a good thing because my teacher is challenging me with new strategies every day. Going to my old school I was knowing. At TCS, I can feel myself learning."

I love this school! We chose to send our 3 boys here for many reasons. The Country School's culture is one of acceptance and nurturing. The emphasis on character building is just as important as academics. The small size of the school and classes makes this all possible and successful. The faculty is amazing. Every child is treated as an individual and taught in the same manner. I feel very fortunate to be able to drop my children off at school in the morning and have no worries of the bullying and harassment that my daughter experienced in Madison a Public School.

Connecticut Experiential Learning Center (CELC), literally, takes my breath away…read more The opportunity for the students at CELC is amazing and the dynamics of the group of students is absolutely beautiful. CELC is what, I believe, every parent would want for their child: a bully free and truly challenging (individully titrated, another miracle for a school) learning environment. Melinda Alcosser and Maria Mortali are the two exceptional forces that lead the learning process at CELC: for kids in grades 5th through 8th. Why CELC for my family? Coming from a fantastic public school in Shaker Heights, Ohio, (Onaway elementary school) we moved to the shoreline of Connecticut into a school system with high ratings. The bullying was so unexpected and frightening. Worse, my child was "viewed" as the problem. We moved him to a private school (in the same community), and found the same dynamic continued to occur in this private school. He continued to be bullied and he fell through the cracks with regard to academics. My husband and I had a difficult time getting him to do his homework, and as a result, teachers disregarded his abilities and did not challenge him. We moved him to CELC in March of 2012. The second week he was there, on the way home he said, unprompted, "I love being there. It is like something was missing in my heart before, and now I am complete." Since moving to Connecticut two years ago, my son is finally happy. He loves going out the door in the morning to CELC, and he comes home at night and completes his homework!!!!! It is only believable, because I have seen it happen for my son. At CELC, he is not only accepted for who he is, he is valued. He is challenged. He is doing his homework. He is finally happy. That makes me and my husband happy. Connecticut Experiential Learning Center takes my breath away. A truly miraculous school program on the Connecticut shoreline.

The amazing, dedicated teachers have created a nurturing environment, where the students really get to know each other. As a result, they have created a unique space where kids feel comfortable to learn, grow, and to be curious. Students are advanced and challenged according to their abilities and interests in a small class environment where they stay engaged and connected. The school provides wonderful breadth of activities beyond the core academics, including twice a week field trips, a Kingian nonviolence class, music, theater, cooking, community service, student run work shops, and other enriching experiences. Our son loves going to CELC, and CELC has inspired him to learn and to be his best self there.

Tuition runs about $3200. for the year which i feel is pretty reasonable for private school. The kids receive a quality education and the kind of endowment they could never receive in public school. The class sizes are small, my eighth grader is in a class of 10. There is familiarity as the kids have gone through the years with the same group of kids. I feel this has cut down on peer pressure and some of the other issues associated with school. The teachers take an interest in the kids education and are quick to get in touch with parents if there is an issue or extra help is needed. The one thing I don't like is there is no play area. When the kids get to go out at recess they are forced to play in the parking lot. While my stepson will probably disagree with me and may even do so her, as he should if he chooses, it is my hope that he will appreciate his education and experience here as truly special as he gets older.

Truthfully I have begun to miss the unity and family-like atmosphere that you constantly portray. Although I may have been excited to join public school and wear whatever clothes I pleased every day, I now regret my eagerness to leave. Though I do miss you, I can honestly say thatyour lessons and moral teachings helped me become a person who knows what people to surround myself with and reflect on. Not only does this keep me out of drama, but also keeps me focused on my schoolwork. Thanks to your years of preparation, I don't just long to recieve good grades, but also to understand the use of every lesson I learn, so I can apply the skills in my future. As I sit in my classes everyday, I notice the severe disrespect that circulates through the students torwards our teachers. I hope that , as we get older, my classmates will mature; however, I also know that I notice these things because you have tought me the importance of respect, discipline, and knowledge. Even though I do appreciate and enjoy my current teachers, I truly all the teachers I had throughout my years at TCA. I regret all the times I was ungrateful, disrespectful,or unmotivated torwards the task at hand and any of my superiors. I wish I had sooner realized all of the hard work and sacrifice that was given by all your faculty to make my experience at TCA the best and most beneficial possible. In all truthfulness, without your guidance through the past years I dont know who I'd be as a student or a moral person. I am grateful my parents were able to send me to your school, and I know that the growth and experiences I went through with you will, for sure, last me a lifetime. Your familiar atmosphere led me to feel comfortable and welcomed among my classmates and teachers. I feel this aspect caused me to focus on my education and also taught me what healthy relationships should contain. Love, Entirely written by, A former student
