I Love me some farm to table. Especially when they focus on using local fair. Decor is very nice. Kind of a shabby chic farm feel. I never made it to the previous restaurant so i can't compare it, but it was a very comfortable upscale country hometown feel. Menu changes based on the season and whats available, so what was on tonight's menu may not be there a couple days from, which is fun and keeps it interesting. The hubbie and I ordered 2 appetizers, the Pura Vida farm braised pork belly on a lentil pilaf and the chapel hill creamery farmer's caprese with herb oil and garden basil. I'm not a huge fan of pork belly, but this was very good. I prefered the caprese salad though, which was not what i was expecting. it was cheese, topped with a fresh tomato, topped with a fried green tomato. Although it was not what was in my head, it was still fantastic, and defiantly something i would order again. For the entree we ordered the HRB farm braised short rib in a beef reduction, roasted potatoes, sauteed triple beans and scallions, at least that was what was on the menu, but what we got seemed different than what i expected. The braised short rib was served on top of what i thought were pureed carrots, and there seemed to be braised greens on top of the short ribs. not sure if this was suppose to be the sauteed triple beans and scallions or if it was substituted for something different. Either way, I'm not mad. This is part of the adventure of farm to table style restaurants, sometimes things change a little in the process based on what is available. So you have to be willing to be a little flexible when you're ordering b/c it might arrive just a little different than what is on the menu or in your head. Our friends ordered the salami, cheese bread appetizer, which was good, although i'm not sure i would order it, just b/c it's not my thing. They ordered the shrimp and grits, which was very good, something in it had a bit of a mexican flavor. After much debate we think there was a pepper of some sort that was giving it the distinct familiar, but i can't put my finger on it flavor. They also ordered the nightly special which was clams and pasta. Although i did not try it, someone did lick the bowl....soooooo, i'm going to say that's a good sign! There were 2 desserts available, which are not actually made on site, but are from Sugar on top, a wake forest bakery connected to daylight donuts. They offered peach cobbler and pecan pie. Our friends got the peach cobbler and we got the pecan pie and then we just shared it all. Both were good, although I'm not sure they were worth the $8 price point. Although good, i probably would not get them again. But hopefully they'll rotate out the dessert options, so i might be tempted. Wait staff were very friendly and patient. And although you could tell they were new, they weren't afraid to say, I don't know and then go ask someone for an answer. When it comes to wait staff, i don't need perfection, just someone who is willing to be honest! Overall it was a great experience and the food was good! I look forward to seeing what they do after they are open a little longer. But it is obvious they have good staff, and great chefs. Maybe they'll eventually move to house made desserts and maybe offering some house made breads? Who knows! But I think this is a great addition to the wake forest area! read more

An awful experience with Todd the general manager. He nor his kitchen staff could be bothered to wear a mask. When politely brought up, he got defensive- stating he was complying. When I stated the actual requirements from the state- he just said he didn't need to comply. His rude, unprofessional behavior showed little care to his staff or the general public. So far this place is great. Our waiter is still learning but the food is looking amazing. When you enter one greeted by a similar ambiance as the previous Italian restaurant. We tried a local made charcuterie platter and it tasted great. The only problem I had was being left with a desire for much more. I also wished that there was a bit more bread. My wife then ordered the shrimp and grits which not only looked appealing but tasted phenomenal. It had a smoky taste with a beautiful presentation. I however ordered the special which was little neck clams served with an amazing beurre blanc sauce with shallots and white wine. Oh my whomever made my dish had to have lived in the north because I loved it so much that I licked my dish. Yes I really did! I think they need to make this a permanent dish. To finalize our adventure we had peach cobbler (which was made from daylight donuts) with whipped topping rather than ice cream. Now honestly I was really expecting ice cream on top. For this reason only, I had to subtract a star. Perhaps if the whipped topping did not instantly dissolve into a milky liquid it would have been better. read more

I've been here 3x and this last visit over the weekend was by far the best. The first time I came here, I just got a cocktail and appetizer (pomme frites) at the bar with a friend. The frites were underseasoned and bland, cocktail was good. Second time I got the fisherman's stew which was great. I appreciate how many gluten free items are available and clearly marked on the menu. This last time, I got the gluten free shortribs with roasted veggies and potatoes and everything was excellent. The shortribs were so tender and flavorful. Veggies and potatoes were well cooked and seasoned. I'd come back to order the same thing again for sure. Staff is friendly and proficient. This is what I call a one and done. I was there last night with my regular partner in dining and we both ordered the rib eye. The only changes we made were to sub spinach for him and creamed Brussels sprouts for me over green bean casserole.Our waitress was nice and attentive enough. The steaks were cooked correctly. The problem was just lack of flavor. The ONLY food I ever salt when eating out is a baked potato, and not always those. However, I had to salt all my food, because it was pretty tasteless. This despite what looked like garlic and herbs coating my steak. I'm not sure the source of their steak (I know, it was on the menu, but I didn't read all that), but it was a little tough AND left that unpleasant waxy feel in our mouths. It wasn't really bad enough to send back, redo, etc., just was okay. For $29, I want more than okay, I want good,or great. Great would have been nice! If this tells you anything, I'd MUCH rather eat a steak at Outback or Carrabba's. Maybe I should be willing to give places a 2nd chance, but it is my money.....so when I'm disappointed I typically just move on. read more

The ambiance and the decor of this place is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. There is outdoor seating and plenty of room for a small party or even a large party. The energy levels are good and they have a nicely stocked bar. Love love love that this restaurant supports the local farmers and that the menu changes with what is in season. This place lost a star for the service as our waitress was hardly there and not very personable for it not. The bus boys were awesome and always courteous but our waitress was not. They also lost a star for the quality of the food. For the price we paid it wasn't worth it. We got a burnt steak for $32, lamb that tasted like shrimp and fish for $13... At least it came with REALLY good hummus and pita bread. The fries that came with the steak were really soggy for having been fried. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare but it came back totally black and charred... And rare on the inside. Not too pleased to say the least. read more

So, it is Valentine's day. People put on their best smiles and restaurants their best menus. This was my second visit; however, it is not a love story in the making. We ordered four dishes. Steak, shrimp and grits, salmon and pork chop. The good first. Pork chop was ok. Over brined and cooked on a grill not on a flame. It tasted like salted, breakfast ham. The shrimp and grits. Let's call it forgetful. It was ok but like everything else ordered, over seasoned. Salt, ol' bays and more salt. The salmon was cooked well. However, it was served with Asian noodles and Asian seasoning. I think this might have been OK had it tasted like salmon and Asian noodles; however, the salt theme continues. This one was completely inedible. Now, that brings us to the steak - - see photo. Again, we are served what appears to be your average, truck-stop-breakfast steak. Less than a half inch thick, covered in garlic, oil and salt. The life was pressed out of it and served raw. After all this, the staff were kind enough not to charge us for the steak. Just so you know, we didn't eat any of the food. OK, maybe a bite or two of the pork chops. read more

Fun farmhouse atmosphere, from the rustic furniture to the metal light fixtures with Edison bulbs. Very casual environment and dress, which we enjoyed very much. Water is served in fun mason jars, which was great except for the highly unnecessary and eco-unfriendly plastic straws that I immediately removed. The waitstaff was highly attentive and friendly. Menu is quite unique and offers plentiful options, including lots of dishes that are gluten-free, vegan, pescetarian, etc. We shared almost everything we ordered amongst the three of us, which worked out great. Large portions of "appetizers" are, in fact, meant to be shared. We had a mixed salad with mixed greens, cabbage, apples, bacon, egg, blue cheese, and a poppyseed dressing. It doesn't sound like much, but was delicious! Then came the bread rolls (at $1 for an assortment of 3 types of rolls, this was a great deal), parmesan dumplings in a tomato sauce (very rich), and grilled vegetables. We weren't expecting much with the vegetables, since most restaurants rarely season them much, but this was very tasty and definitely one of our favorite dishes. Main courses included an Asian Grilled Salmon with gluten-free noodles, exotic mushrooms, and wow was it flavorful! We also had Grilled Pork Chops with a wonderful cherry sauce, broccoli au gratin (too much cheese), and mashed sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes were amazing. Many others sound just as fabulous. I love this place! I have been here several times and tried different things like scallops and salads and have never been disappointed. Tonight I had a night away from the kids and came to have a glass of wine and crab cake and was so pleased with the service from Rett (not sure if that's spelled right?) and Todd! My family loves this restaurant and with that said my daughter and her fiance decided to have their wedding reception in the outside seasonal room. Todd the GM had great communication skills and helped us along the journey from seating to food to table arranging. Food and service was impeccable. Waitstaff especially Amanda went above and beyond. A shame we had a heat wave and it was 98 degrees that day in May (a new record) and the venue is not air conditioned outside but with fans and windows we made do. All in all a great experience. Everyone including picky eaters from out of state gave the food rave reviews. They even accommodated one guest with alot of food allergies. She said her salmon was amazing. We had the pork schnitzel and beef shank. Both amazing. Highly recommend this place for a romantic dinner or planned party. They gave us the whole outside from open to close. Interesting menus that is creative and changes with the seasons, great cocktails (yes finally someone who can make a proper martini), sharp and witty service that actually can read their clientele and anticipate every need, topped off with an inviting setting. Nothing against chains- there great for casual predictable "don't want to cook and I'll eat the same old reheated tasteless food in a bag" evenings. Been here several times with a large group and the service is always on point. Great wine selection, their fries are AMAZING and they have a great selection of small plates as well as full entrees. Last time I enjoyed the wedge Caesar and the carnitas enchiladas. Be aware those enchiladas are spicy! Brought them home and my husband loved them. Enjoyed the atmosphere there as well. This place is frustrating...I've been going infrequently over the last several years and generally speaking have had pleasant dining experiences. The food quality is pretty OK, decor is rustic, service is good and it's clean. However, they seem to take off the things that I like off of their already medium-to-small menu. Examples: I loved the broccoli and cauliflower au gratin - gone...I loved the duck egg rolls - gone...I enjoyed the short ribs but they changed the sides (now served with a carrot puree)...other similar items have been removed in favor of less appetizing alternatives imo. Took a shot on this place. Wife and I love farm to table and haven't found a legit spot for that in the 2 years weve been here. Started with cocktails, Moscow mules and a roasted beet salad with horseradish goat cheese. Excellent and fresh. I had the duck breast/duck "gumbo" and wife had the pork schnitzel with herbed spaetzle and pickled vegetables. Both were exceptional. Well season but most importantly cooked to proper temp and super juicy. Desert was chocolate pecan pie served warm with fresh whipped cream. Again, exceptional. Service was excellent, we will request Allison if possible on our next visit. A+ Service. It was friday at 7pm the place was packed and our food came out in less than 15 minutes. I've thought a lot about what to write in this review. My household has eaten here several times, yet we just can't get to a point where we really enjoy the food. Our general consensus is that the menu is disjointed and just not that good. Decor: For the most part the decor isn't bad. The hokey farmer's market sign needs to go and there could be some small touches to improve the experience. Paper straws, salt/pepper grinders, candles, etc. This location has an advantage of location, dining room size, and outdoor seating. Food: I have eaten SEVERAL meals here. The ONLY one I can say is GOOD and worth doing over again is the Bacon Mac and Cheese ($16). Really. Everything else is either severely overpriced (versus slightly overpriced), odd texture, tiny portions, and/or suffers from poorly aligned flavor combinations. From the current menu (July 2017) here are my comments... Oven Roasted Beet Salad ($9): This was probably my biggest disappointment. I love roasted beets. They are a staple in my household. For starters, this dish is tiny. Size aside, the time that I encountered this it ended up being inedible. The horseradish goat cheese is awful. Please do not subject your mouth to this. Combined with the arugula and very acidic vinaigrette...you won't be able to taste anything after it. I actually could not even eat all of this tiny portion. The hazelnuts are whole, roasted, no seasoning or anything to add dimension. So much more could have been done with this dish all around. The actual beets (less than one entire beet) was good. I would rather have a plate of those, crumbled goat cheese, a bed of spinach, and a warm mustard vinaigrette. Tomato Salad ($10): The pickled onions and mint are weird with this. It's like a caprese salad trying to be "fancy". We do need to talk about the price point though. Fresh, local "slicer" tomatoes are somewhere around $3 per pound. There is a very small amount of cheese, less than two tomatoes, and then some herbs...the amount of actual work that goes into this dish is minimal and the price point is high. Stuffed Mushrooms ($10): I am a huge mushroom fan. You get 3 mushrooms. 3. That is $3.33 per mushroom. The "stuffing" is also a bit odd. Don't expect to get warm, cheesy, gooey, herby, flavorful stuffed mushrooms. The root vegetable mixture has an odd texture that does not compliment the mushrooms. These suffer from the same issue that most of the menu suffers from, which is trying to be "fancy" with a lot of big words and a lack of follow through with actually producing solid dishes. Farm Table Trio ($12): This is a prime example of the disjointed menu. This is a FARM TO TABLE "themed" restaurant. Really. It is a theme at this place. Roasted red pepper and jalapeno hummus, quinoa tabbouleh, and olive tapenade with "pita points". The only ingredient that I could identify as farm fresh was the jalepeno. The pita is not bad. The rest could have been better. A lot better. Other items I have eaten here were the braised short ribs (when they were served over polenta), the shrimp and grits, and a slice of cheesecake (not made in house). As someone who actually supports local farmers and local food (which to clarify a point from another reviewer...these are not marketed as organic offerings) this restaurant has a lot of room for improvement. As a consumer you aren't able to know exactly what items are coming from a local farmer or from a non-local source. I want to look at the (very limited) menu and know who provided the vegetables on my plate, where the steak came from, etc. I did note that the updated menu makes a point to note the listed farmers are "past and present". Out of the most recently displayed list of farmers I know (and have worked with) 3 of them and do enjoy independently purchasing their produce. The wonky part about the current menu is that the seasonal offerings are limited and not celebrated: no melons, corn, peaches, etc. With a cohesive menu that highlights seasonal, local products that is executed well this place could be packed on a regular basis. A few suggestions they may want to consider is doing "Sunday Supper", offering Southern classics, pulling back on trying to be "fancy" and focusing on genuine, simplistic dishes where the produce is able to really shine. I would love to see some options such as an entree portioned summer salad, grilled vegetable kabobs, flatbread with roasted garlic, tomatoes, basil, balsamic reduction, from scratch biscuits, hoe cakes with pimento cheese, etc. Simple pasta dishes with house made sauces, fresh mushrooms and other seasonal vegetables could be lovely. Toss in a side of locally crafted bread, you easily have a $15 pasta entree offering...add grilled meat for an additional charge. read more

Husband and I found this place on yelp! So glad we decided to find this out of the way place. Not what I'd expect from "strip mall " food. I had the roasted beet salad. It was wonderful. The horseradish goat cheese is incredible. Hubby had the pork chop. It was huge, juicy and delicious. We had the bacon Mac and cheese to share. We took 3/4 home. Pretty good food, much in line with any other farm to table, for which I may have gone four stars, but one of the servers reached over me with a plate of buttery, oily mushrooms, ran a solid ounce of the liquid down the sleeve of my dress shirt and simply gave a short "sorry" and nothing else. The reach over the shoulder might be viewed as improper service, but given what he was doing (handling a plate full of greasy, hot liquid), and the way he handled it, I think the staff could be trained better, or be more experienced. I'd consider this a rare occasion, so it wouldn't deter me from returning. I was later offered to have the shirt cleaned, which was appreciated. read more

This place has always been hit and miss. Some of the wait staff is exceptional others are out of their depth. Quality is inversely proportionate to how busy they are. Tonight's experience was very poor and my wife said we won't be going back. Mngt either doesn't care or more likely doesn't know how to address issues. I ordered roast duck. It came out VERY rare. They took it back sautéed the duck replated everything from the original plate and now I had sautéed duck with cold vegetables. Manager was called over, explained to me what they had done but really didn't get it. Roast duck means roasted not sautéed because you messed up. I had a dried non delicious dinner. Sorry guys. You charged a lot of money for a mediocre dish. AND YOU KNOW IT! You ignored the problem hoping I would just take it and I did so as not to make a scene. To make it worse, we were seated at a table everyone knew was broken then moved to the outside room with a lovely fire but when the rain cooled the air flow the smoke reversed back into the room. My family is now home taking showers to get rid of the smoke in their hair. I smell like I've been camping. I guess it's on me for going to a place I know is hit and miss. The food is always delicious. The chefs never fail to impress me with their creative dishes. With a full bar, large list of wines, and crafty cocktails, everyone can find something they like! The decor is something out of a magazine, and the climate-controled patio outside is really great year round. I typically like sitting at the bar, which is great at Farm Table because they have a full menu. They even set you up with a napkin placemat! Tip: Don't skip dessert. Was a bit leery because of the mixed reviews, but we all had a great meal. 4 adults and 1 toddler. The salmon and the flatbread were my favorites -- both perfectly seasoned. Started with the romaine salad and the flatbread (delicious!), and moscow mules. The kids' menu chicken fingers turned into an appetizer for everyone else since our son only wanted the fries. My mom, dad, and gf couldn't believe how greaseless the chicken was. I had the blackened salmon, which wasn't really blackened, but was so so so good; came with so-so risotto and sauteed spinach and tomatoes. My mom had the biggest pork chop she said she's ever seen, loved it and had plenty to take home. Dad - spiced chicken, said it was great and also a generous portion. I was visiting family for Thanksgiving and a few people recommend we try Farm Table. We called last minute and we're able to get a table on a Friday night with no problem. Our server was really friendly and overall the service was ok. The food was good but nothing spectacular. Our waiter recommended the pork chops and said it usually sells out and is really popular. It was just ok and the sweet potato hash was lack luster to say the least. What really upset us was the "Wine Rep" giving out samples of "The Prisoner" wine. He was pushing hard for a sale of the bottle explaining it was a blend and was really hard to get with limited release and small batches. He proceeds to tell us the bottle usually sells for between $80-95 dollars.. Blah blah blah. Well when I googled it I saw it on Total wine and other sites for $35-46. Anyone could buy a REALLY nice bottle of wine for $80-95 and not a blend of reds.. What a joke, shame on you and the restaurant for trying to pull that!! read more
