Sitting out on the patio almost right under the Walkway over the Hudson was an amazing experience in itself. The views in the Hudson Valley are literally breathtaking from almost every angle of every city. My Wife and I have both had Farmers and Chefs bookmarked in Yelp for quite some time, so finally heading over was so exciting. It was a beautiful day so we headed to the patio. Love the indoor/outdoor bar area. I ordered a dirty martini. Made perfectly. We shared the Farmer's Wings, oysters on a half shell and a mixed green salad with Goat Cheese, soooooo good. My Wife also went with the Salmon & garlic mash served with green beans. Hella Good. Everything was so fresh and tasty. Our server, a very kind gentleman, who's name a cannot remember made our experience even more incredible by going above and beyond to direct the umbrellas just so that the sun wasn't in my Wife's eyes and our view of the walkway wasn't blocked. 0ur experience here was great. We were in the Poughkeepsie area for two nights for my wife to attend a get together with her SUNY New Paltz theater buddies from some 50 years ago. We like to travel and like to eat out trying new things. Frustrating that a lot of restaurants in the area serve basic pub food (which is fine, but it gets boring after a while to point of tedium). We ate at Rossi's Deli (awesome) and Crew yesterday. After meeting her friends at P&G's in New Paltz (where else for a bunch of college friends to hang out) , I was really looking forward to non-pub food. We found Farmers and Chefs. A local restaurant with a twist which is what I look for. And they grow and feature mushrooms which is probably one of my favorite ingredients. It was a pleasant atmosphere, spaced out tables, comfortable , light background music . All very pleasant. Our server Cami could not have been nicer or more helpful. She fully understood the menu, was helpful in ordering a half salad for my wife. Service was efficient without being hurried. My Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc wine was superb and worth every bit of the 16 bucks a glass. Generally I noticed the wine list had a small but quality wine by the glass list. They have an extensive list of local brews which I did not try. So far all well deserving of the five stars. So how is the food? We started with Northern Belle Oysters from the Canadian Atlantic. I believe these are actually native to the northwest North American waters but the Atlantic versions had the solid meaty texture of pacific oysters and a hint of the brininess of Atlantic oysters. An interesting and successful melding of the types. The mignonette sauce was a little sweet which actually worked with these oysters when used sparingly. I liked them . They had a special salad tonight of heirloom tomatoes, cucumber , goat cheese, olives in a clean vinaigrette. It was flavorful and the goat cheese was excellent. She had the app Gambas Al Ajillo as her entree (small eater) . Nicley cooked and the shrimp had a strong forward shrimp flavor (cooked with the shells on then shelled post cook? which is how I like to do them). I like my shrimp to taste like shrimp which is so difficult to find these days. The dish might have been lacking a bit in the garlic department but otherwise very good. The accompanying slices of their bread to sop up the garlic/oil/butter sauce was excellent. I debated at some length on my entree. The 50/cut beef and mushroom bolognese looked tempting . A special of squid ink pasta with shrimp, octopus and clams sounded really good as well. But if they grow mushrooms and make goat cheese and pasta let us get right to the point. Mushroom Ravioli with a mushroom, butter, lemon and thyme sauce and balsamic drizzle and more goat cheese. OMG. This was great , really awesome. The pasta was cooked perfectly and both the mushroom filling and the sauces were on their own great. Together thought it was well orchestrated flavor explosion. It's a very pretty spot! Modern rustic interior with a mostly shaded patio right near the Walkway Over the Hudson. We dined very early on a Tuesday night so we were the only patrons. We sat outside and it was mostly pleasant, aside from some pesky mosquitos -- citronella candles or similar would be helpful to have on the tables. I got the 50/Cut Burger on a bed of mixed greens (no GF bun option), and it was super tasty albeit slightly overcooked. The shoestring fries were also good. The Negroni I ordered had a good balance of flavors but I always prefer a big rock of ice vs. chipped ice, which waters down the drink too fast. But they supplied a legit Luxardo cherry, and that certainly elevated the experience. The service was fast & friendly. I enjoyed it, and would return to try some of the other menu items. read more

We stopped at F&S on the way home from Massachusetts, traveling on I-84. My son is a huge New York Central fan, so I wanted to show him the rail bridge over the Hudson. This place had a great view of the bridge so we stopped. First, I had no idea it was a mushroom heavy menu. I hate mushrooms, not the flavor, the consistency, but that's not why I gave you 3 stars. My wife would love the menu, but she was at home. My son had a mushroom ravioli, he loved it. My dad and I both had the hot honey chicken sandwich with shoe string fries (one of the few things w/o accompanying fungus).. we got our ration of ketchup with the fries. There was a nice selection of micros on tap, I did not review the wine list, but they have a decent cocktail list. So there's the positive. The sandwich was awesome, service was not. It appeared to be a management issue, we sat on the patio and every table had a different server who were also attending to other guests inside the restaurant, trying to run back and forth. Empty drinks, uncleared plates, no ketchup for fries. I finally had to flag down another server. My dad is 77, he was getting really annoyed, got up and left. Chicken sandwich -$20 x2, Pasta - $30. One beer. $80 total, plus tip. I guess I paid for the view of the bridge. You really deserve 3 stars; I felt your staff was inattentive and rude. A decent and interesting spot. They grow their own mushrooms in a container just outside (awesome) so their menu is full of mushroom options. My husband got the beet pasta which was unusual and quite good. I got the duck which was good. I was particularly entertained watching the NY state sponsored goats munching the weeds nearby. I came here with a party of 5 and everything we ordered was outstanding, the restaurant was lovely with a view of the walking bridge, and the service was top notch. First, I realize it's Valentine's Day but that doesn't mean anything in the restaurant business. My wife and I got to the restaurant at 4:00 plenty early enough for a Saturday night. The waiter was quick to get us drinks and take our order. It was 5:20 before we got our meals not to mention we never saw our waiter again until he gave us our check. Excellent service from Dominique! She was awesome! The specials were mouthwatering just by the description. Chose the Malbec wine to start off Our adventure and then Ordered the escargot, they were right out of the movie Pretty Woman. The entrees Salmon perfectly cooked kudos to the chef with the asparagus dancing in a scrumptious sauce. The new York strip steak was cooked to order, a bit too much fat, but that's the cut. It was raining outside so my party of three sat inside although the outside dining looked beautiful as it overlooked the Hudson. The inside was very nice too and clean. There wasn't a ton of seating inside however it was 5PM on a Tuesday so there was no need for a reservation. We ordered the farmers chef wings appetizer. It came with 8 wings, carrots, and celery. The seasoning on the wings was perfect and had a nice little kick to it. For my main dish, I ordered one of the specials for the night which was a beef bolognese with house made pasta. They took note that I don't eat dairy otherwise it does come with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. I loved that the pasta was made in-house and the sauce was great too. It definitely tasted nice and fresh. It is a little more on the pricey side but a great place to go if you are looking to have a nice night with friends or family. read more

We came here during a short tour of the Hudson Valley area. It was a warm summer day and were pleasantly surprised to discover this place. Our server rattled off the longest list of specials I think I have ever heard -- though we elected to choose from the standard menu of the Baja fish wrap and the pan roasted duck. Both were tasty -- and the location felt quite comfortable -- people seemed to know & appreciate the restaurant so it filled up a bit when we were sitting there. On a work trip and came across this place. Food looked good in the pics so thought I'd give it a shot. It was packed at the bar so I had to get a table. Sat down and was greeted. I ordered the sweet Chilli wings and the burger. The wings were great, although the Bour cheese was a bit weird. It had an odd taste, so I ate the wings without it. The burger was great! For the prices, you'd expect the food to be very good. The food had almost no flavor, no seasoning, anything. The water and soda also had a very strange taste and when it was brought up with our waiter (who was PHENOMENAL by the way, no hate to them) they found no issues and offered for us to pay for bottled water. If I was a manager, I would have offered to comp bottled water, but clearly that wasn't the thought process here. Ambiance is nice and it looks fine, but the food was just so disappointing for the prices and especially with undrinkable water/soda. Food was edible, but nothing more. My spouse and I drove up to Poughkeepsie today to do the walkway over the Hudson. But first we had to have lunch. The menu at FARMERS AND CHEFS looked yummy with notes of local ingredients etc. With the CIA - no not that one, the one that is the top rated US cooking school, I know that there are lots of great restaurants in Poughkeepsie. Spouse and I were not disappointed! We started with Sweet Corn Gazpacho with Crab meat on top with a crostini (?). Delish! I had the Buddha Bowl with Shrimp and spouse had the Smash Burger which was juicy and he said it was fantastic. Fresh brewed ice tea was also strong and refreshing. Highly recommend this restaurant. Living 3000 miles away and being separated from family due to the covid surge in California, we wanted to make the best of this holiday and treat my mom to a nice takeout "dinner out," despite the circumstances. I'm grateful they were open for delivery on Xmas eve, but unfortunately the presentation of our order was pretty bad overall - given the pandemic circumstances, I would assume packaging takeout should be something most places have gotten right at this point. Order: Lobster spaghetti- $35 Orange chocolate mousse - $9 I've included pictures of how this was sent to my mother - the mousse was a inedible melted mess, presumably from being packed on top of a hot dish, and the pasta was all over the place in an oversized container- I got a frantic call from my mom asking if she was sent partially eaten leftovers. While I totally understand presentation is not the most feasible in times like this and takeout ever does classy restaurant food justice, this was beyond unacceptable for the cost and would have been disappointing any other day of the week, let alone Xmas. We were able to enjoy their food when went to Plan Bee Brewery this year (2020). It was actually one of the reasons why we timed our visit to the Brewery - because we knew they would be there. Be sure to check out their website to see where they will be. We ordered a variety of foods and shared with the family. Truffle Fries, Pulled Pork Tacos, lamb sausage, Kimchi Fried Chicken Wrap. The ordering process was so easy and they accept credit cards which makes it super convenient. The food was prepared perfectly! Full of flavor and tasted so fresh. This place is fantastic! I always get the mushroom burger and it is to die for! And others I've come with have tried many of the other dishes and they all have loved their meals as well. First and foremost the restaurant is extremely noisy, to the point of uncomfortable. We were promptly seated, in a corner table, restaurant was kind of empty, though it got busy later on. Our blond waitress( sorry don't remember your name) was professionally, efficient, personable, checking on us very often. We were offered drinks, no bread on the table. Started with Escargot, I love them well seasoned, my husband had the oyster on the half shell ( 6 for $18) and our companions had some kind of wild mushroom salad, that lacked dressing. Two people had another's special, some pasta with lobster. They were told there was a lot of lobster, though I believe it was mostly claw meat. They did enjoy it; for the price it needed to be a little more generous as for the lobster meat. I choose the rigatoni carbonara, without peas, YES! No peas! It was ok, I thought the pasta was not quite Al dente! As for the price, kind of steep, I'm not sure we will go back. The hamburgers coming out of the kitchen looked quite nice. Desert was a "mini mini " tarte Tatin with gelato Ice cream, I found the crust a little hard. I gave it four starts because our waitress deserves one! read more

Cons: Food was very expensive. $19 for a chicken sandwich with a spicy honey to add on top, cutlet was a good size on a tiny hamber bun, slaw was a gross uncooked red cabbage no flavor. Served with fries. Mashed potatoes were good but an upcharge from fries. I'd get a better sandwich at a fast food place. One diner had a home made mushroom ravioli. It was grey and totally gross looking. If I ordered it I would have sent it back. Soup of the day was a Minestrone. Was expecting a bowl of vegetables, beans. Nope it was a nasty bowl of what looked like seaweed. 5 kidney beans and 3 cananoli beans. Veggies were grated to the point they were unidentifiable. The bowl they served it in was massive rim was bigger than the actual bowl. Looked like an Amish hat. The photo shows how large and shallow the bowl was. (Thankfully they comped the seaweed soup.) Drinks were full of ice and very little liquor. Compare to the skinny rum drink to the very thin pepper grinder. Tasty but way over priced for a few sips. Friend had a home gin drink. She said it was tasty. Full of ice. So loud - horrible acoustics could not hear the people at our table. Could hear the people across the room with no issue. Ambiance was totally lacking. Got bread plates but no bread was available. Why give us bread and butter plates? I'd never go back. $70 for two chicken sandwiches and one cocktail.
