Ordered from Farmers & Chefs through Yelp Delivery. Estimated time was about 30-45 mins on a Friday night, which was an accurate estimate. The delivery went smoothly. I ordered the Steak Au Poivre with Hand-cut Shoestring Fries. I got it medium rare but by the time the dish got to me I would say it was more on the medium side. (My fault, probably should have ordered rare knowing the steak was probably cooking while on transit to my place) Nevertheless, the steak was well seasoned and basked in the peppercorn cream sauce. The sauce was very flavorful with the peppercorn brining a bit of heat and spice to the dish. Although shoestring fries aren't my favorite cut of fries, I couldn't complain about the ones from Farmers & Chefs. They were crispy and well seasoned. I really wanted to like this place but was underwhelmed. The menu looked really good and my husband and I decided to go this past Sunday based on the great reviews. We called two or three days ahead and were easily able to get an early reservation but they advised they were not having brunch because of the college graduations, which we were fine with. Since we had an early reservation, I had no issue parking in the strip of spaces next to the restaurant. Since it was humid, we dined inside. Our server was fantastic, very attentive, friendly and personable and contributed to the experience. We started out with the burrata crostini appetizer which was tasty. It was actually a nice contrast having a thin slice of slightly sweet apple under the cheese. The scallions were good, but the pink peppercorns on top detracted from the flavor of the dish. I understand the approach for contrast (very sweet fig jam, slightly sweet apple, sweet balsamic reduction, cheese) but I didn't agree that the peppercorns worked. It was a nice appetizer but nothing I couldn't recreate myself at home. For entrée, I had the pan roasted duck breast. The waitress asked me if mid rare was OK but the duck came out way overcooked and dry. I probably should have sent it back. Everything on the plate tasted good but the meat and asparagus needed salt (duck was nicely seasoned except for salt and being overcooked, mash was delicious). My husband's burger was cooked properly but also needed salt. My bohemian passion cocktail was fantastic. There were a lot of interesting flavors that worked well together and made a delicious drink (but I like sweet drinks, and it was definitely sweet). My husband's Results May Cherry was fine, he's definitely had better old fashioneds and has had higher end bourbon at home. This is a lovely find! The view of the Hudson River and outdoor seating is lovely. The service is so friendly and warm, and the food is so fresh. I found a vegan option in the menu of squash noodles, and my husband had salmon and an octopus appetizer. We also enjoyed some truffle arancini as an appetizer. Everything was delicious and flavorful, and nothing was heavy and greasy. To me, this is a sign of an upscale restaurant. We were able to take a photo with the river in the background. On a sunny late-summer morning, we decided to have brunch before doing the Walkway over the Hudson. Farmers & Chefs checks everything on my list for a brunch spot including dog friendly outdoor dining, local farm ingredients and an interesting menu. Torn between Chicken & Waffles or the Duck Confit, I opted for the duck. It was delish. I asked for an extra piece of sourdough toast to sop up the remaining sauce, which really helped complete the meal. My buddy got the Croque Madame which was fantastic. Everything was as delightful as we expected, but it was our server, Amanda, that was the highlight of our experience. Nothing to knock your socks off but everything was enjoyable. My lady had a hot chicken sandwich and I had a steak and risotto special. The drinks were very tasty but the service was a little on the slow side. It wasn't crazy busy so we weren't thrilled with the wait times on the some of the food and cocktails. This is such a lovely little gem! The king oyster mushrooms, that are grown by the restaurant are absolutely remarkable. A week later, we are still talking about them! We will probably be talking about them for months. The service was extraordinary as well. Damon was an absolutely delightful server, and he made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. I wasn't expecting this experience. We drove down from Vermont to visit Hyde Park and came across this place as an alternative to the heavier Mexican and Italian restaurants closer to our stay. The restaurant looks pretty unassuming, like a standard assembly building with a wrap around deck in a mixed residential/industrial part of town. But, the restaurant is pretty modern while maintaining a nice homie feel. And the view of the Walkway over the Hudson was an added bonus. The food was great and really reasonably priced. Paying for farm-to-table is so worth it when the food is prepared well. The wild mushroom raviolis were delicious. Usually restaurants will put them in a red pasta sauce, alfredo sauce, or swimming in butter, but the kitchen really let the flavors and texture speak for themselves. My mom-in-law had the sweet pea potato pancake, and I was pleasantly surprised. It had a subtle flavor and the consistency was richer than a traditional potato pancake. And they topped it with plenty of hardy and fresh vegetables. And the service was fantastic. I love me some Vermont, but the service is not it's trademark. Folks can be a little impatient and not terribly warm, so getting down to the Hudson was a whole different experience. Our host was friendly and the server was so genuinely nice and helpful. She made me want to come back (and she even invited us back, which was a pleasant surprise). Definitely check this place out. read more

We dined here Friday night with another couple. I have had varying experiences here at Farmers and Chefs, but was looking forward to the new (ish) menu. We decided to have different drinks (rather than a bottle), as we all enjoy different wines. Let me get this out of the way first. My friend drinks Chardonnay, I drink Pinot Grigio & twice our waiter brought us the wrong wines. They were mixed up. Twice they corrected the mistake & took the wines off our bill (so that was good). It was a minor annoyances, but nothing more. We started with the Escargot, soup of the day & my SO & I shared the Chicken Liver Pate. Our friends through their starters were really good. We were pleased with the pate - there was a really nice sized portion of well flavored pate along with some delicious accompaniments. The toast was fresh & crispy. Our friends had the Pan Roasted Chicken Breast & the Braised Short Ribs. Both declared them to be top notch. My SO had the Monkfish special (came Osso Buco style with a few mussels and shrimp. SO said the sauce was flavorful & the fish perfectly cooked, however the fish came 'bone in' (hence the Osso Buco style) which kind of threw him a little while eating. He did say it was tasty though. We also agreed that the chef could have been a little more generous with the seafood, as there was only one shrimp & two mussels. My Pan Seared Diver Scallops with Forbidden black rice, Butter nut squash, Pomegranate seeds, Whole grain mustard, Beurre Blanc & Parsley was really good. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the slightly sweet, nutty mildly hot sauce was a nice finish. The crunchiness of the Pomegranate seeds was a little off putting in contrast to the softness of the scallops & really didn't add a lot to the flavor, but the whole dish was well composed. We finished up with the couples sharing a desert each - they had the creme brulee & we had the sorbet. Both were perfectly fine, but nothing to extraordinary. In all, we had a very pleasant evening - tables were well spaced out & the staff were friendly & attentive (aside from the wine mix up). We'll be back again! read more

We were invited up for two tastings at his farm to table Restaurant in Poughkeepsie and both times were terrific experience- one was a lovely night out. What truly sets John and Farmer & Chefs apart is their attention to detail and their commitment to using organic and locally sourced ingredients. We made a last minute reservation on Saturday night for 5:30 which is early for most people except seniors like us. Lol! We asked to be seated outside but changed our mind when we felt how hot it was. The hostess was gracious and seated us inside. They made an attempt with the decor. There are murals featuring the farms they buy from. The bar area has a wagon wheel and barn wood accents. One wall has many windows with a view of the impressive rail trail bridge trusses and the bridge itself in the distance. The rest of the view was the roadway below. There is a rustic wooden wall that features the wine and a poorly utilized lounge area next to the bar. It was distracting to feel the floating laminate flooring move every time anyone walked by. Our server Leslie immediately drew us in with her charm, passion and professionalism. She tempted us with the list of specials. My husband was intrigued by the ribeye steak and I for the heirloom tomato, cucumber, calamata olive, and feta salad. I was craving summer tomatoes. We ordered both along with the mussels in herb and tomato broth for me. My husbands Millhouse beer was served in a warm just out of the dishwasher glass. It was an unseasonably warm Nov day and I thought it would be nice to find a restaurant with outdoor seating as well as a restaurant week lunch menu. I spotted Farmers and Chefs and was intrigued by their menu. My husband ordered a fall beer , Devils Backbone, which he really enjoyed. The waiters were all masked up and I noticed them spraying down tables with an antibacterial spray. They approached our table keeping a safe distance and took our order. I decided on the escargot (yes escargot!) appetizer, tagliatelle bolognese entree and a delicious apple raisin bread pudding for dessert! All was delicious and generous portions! My husband ordered a pub burger off their regular menu, also was very tasty. Only issue was the noise from the road, at times was a little much but otherwise a wonderful find. Went to the bar-it had a bunch of stuff on it and asked if they just opened, if we needed to wait, and was told no by a woman that was there, along with the bartender, that they've been open. We sat down and the bartender brought over menus & we let her know we were just having drinks, so started to walk away with them menus & I asked if I could take a look at one, which seemed to bother her. She gave it back with some attitude and then just walked away without asking what drinks we would like to order. We were the only ones at the bar and she ignored us. We got up and left. This is the second time we've had this experience there-the bartender completely disengaged and not caring -the last time was a couple years ago, so we thought we try it again. Fortunately, I can deal with that and didn't make an issue due to time constraints. The sautéed onions on it were cold. No real taste to the burger. Were any spices used? Our server was attentive and friendly. The mussels were delicious !! The hot chicken sandwich was equally fantastic. I ordered the tuna poke bowl but had asked that the tuna be cooked which our server asked the kitchen and the kitchen would not do which i'm not sure why it was a big deal to throw the tuna in on the griddle to cook it for 2 mins. I opted for pork tacos for starters, grilled octopus over lentils and Oreo cheesecake for desert. My girlfriend choose bruschetta, pasta carbanaro and bread pudding. I must say, her choices were better with the exception of desert (the oreo cheese cake was delicious!). Pork tacos were good, but needed a bit more seasoning. Octopus was delicious but there were too many lentils in my opinion. Bruschetta was delicious, and full of flavor.
