If you're looking for a place for a nice date, or you want cocktails over delicious apps... this is your place. I decided to go with apps, and had the warm Brussels sprouts salad with butternut squash, pickled cranberries, and nuts with a drizzle of goat cheese. It was divine. I also had the arancini balls with spinach which were pretty good - loved the yuzu sauce that was on it, but felt a little bland without the zest. Huge app portions, too. I had two drinks - the Raymond and the holiday. The Raymond was so good - I don't usually go with bourbon but I felt like the harshness was dampened by the juice. My Wife and I were in the neighborhood so we decided to give Salt Line a try for a quick drink and apps. Glad we were only in the mood for light bites because on this particular visit they were only offering a limited menu. We settled on wings, a dirty martini and a shot of well tequila. I found the martini a bit off-putting and unenjoyable. My Wife and I thought the wings were decent. The server seemed to be training but super attentive and friendly. A true farm-to-table experience! The Salt Line, tucked away at the Heartwood hotel, has an elegant atmosphere without feeling stuffy. Their promise of locally sourced ingredients shows up in each and every dish. I was blown away by the food. These are the kinds of dishes you go out for - complex, creative, and delicious. The Green Goddess salad was a standout, with impossibly crisp lettuce and a Gorgonzola dressing I'm still thinking about. I also had the House Made Rigatoni with truffle sauce, which was cooked to a perfect al dente. I added salmon, which was cooked brilliantly: a bold, peppery crust on the outside with a soft, beautifully tender interior. Finally, the garlic hummus was bursting with garlicy goodness, pairing well with the naan and dukkah. While our servers were very friendly and attentive, there were a few small fumbles, like needing to swap out a smudged wine glass. The ambiance also has some room to grow. The sticky floor, heavy/worn chairs, and sparse outdoor area were minor distractions from an otherwise lovely setting. Overall, I think The Salt Line is a fantastic restaurant that is close to being truly exceptional. Judging by past reviews vs. my actual experience, it seems receptive to feedback - I genuinely can't wait to return and see it live up to its incredible potential. read more

My kid is graduating so I will now reveal the best restaurant in Poughkeepsie. (I never have to fight you people for reservations again!). Service is amazing! This is a small, elegant place. Great for a serious date, proposal, or important event in your lives (like celebrating your kids admission to this great university and/or their graduation). If you're taking your kid to Vassar, this is a must. Just had my second from last meal here. Branzino was great! My wife had the vegan shepherds pie, which she loved. And miracle upon miracle, they had ube crème brûlée! IYKYK. Great local beer selection. A lot of wines on the wine list for people who are into that. read more

Food seemed prepackaged and was not fresh. The focaccia bread was not bread, not sure what it was but it looked like meat loaf. Very weird presentation. The salads were not good, the food did not feel as if it was prepared on site. Atmosphere was good and the staff were great but I will not eat here again. My husband and I visited the Lehman Loeb and then had lunch at The Salt Line. We were promptly seated by a very nice server who inquired if we would like tap, spring, or sparkling water. We chose a bottle of spring water and began to peruse our menus. Be forewarned that the acoustics of the restaurant-- the conversations of fellow diners as well as the music-- preclude any type of meaningful conversation unless one is raising one's voice, and people were doing just that so that everyone was conversing loudly. The server returned with our water and informed us they had everything but the Reuben. My husband had anticipated ordering this after looking at their online menu so had we known ahead of time that the Reuben was not available, we may have gone elsewhere. The lunch menu is small with few choices. The sandwich choices were now whittled down to two so my husband chose the Chicken Caprese. The chicken was cooked and crisped perfectly, but I thought the chicken itself should've been more judiciously seasoned. The fries were overly salty. I ordered the Thai Chicken Salad, which arrived atop a flattened croissant. The croissant was buttery and would have provided a slightly sweet counterpoint to what I thought would be a flavorful salad, but the salad was lacking. The chicken was tasty; the cabbage was nicely shredded; and the edamame, cashews, and apples provided a nice texture to the overall dish. However, the purported Thai basil aioli did not taste garlicky nor did I taste basil. It was strangely bland and a shame as this simple dressing would have elevated the dish to above average. I thought the $24 price was a bit steep as well as it was lacking in taste as well as presentation. Husband and I dined here about 2 weeks ago for the first time, and overall, had a very nice experience and enjoyed our food and drinks. We were seated by the windows, so we had a nice view of the tree-lined grounds. The menu has a good assortment of seasonal vegetable items, but since I've been eating a lot of salad lately, I wanted carbs, so we decided on the table bread appetizer. I like hummus but wasn't necessarily a fan of the beet & harissa hummus, but the bread was wonderful and the rosemary butter was divine. I was planning to order the trout entrée based on the online menu, but the more extensive menu at the restaurant offered roasted long island duck so I chose that instead. It was perfectly cooked at mid-rare, and very well seasoned with crispy skin. The corn accompaniment was tasty but not the most exciting, but the mushrooms added a nice meatiness. The berry coulis was fine, I would have preferred something more tart to counteract the duck. It didn't stop me from finishing it, though. My husband had the local grass fed steak which was also cooked nicely and very tasty, if just a touch short on the salt. Both entrées were enjoyable and well composed. Cocktails were well balanced, enjoyable and well made. We decided to skip dessert since I'm lactose intolerant and only one option would have been safe, so we ordered another round of drinks and another order of the focaccia. Service was polite, attentive, and friendly, though we did have to wait a little bit for cocktails from the bar. The one negative, if I'd call it that, is when I overheard the waitress mention the specials for the night to the table next to us, since we were not given a specials menu or told about them. The food was solid and the drinks were good but I was impressed with the offerings and overall execution. Dutchess doesn't have too many higher-end, seasonally-focused dining options, so we look forward to visiting again in a few weeks. read more

Slow service, food was cold, no follow up by the waitress to see if everything was fine, no manager available. What a shame because the ambiance is great. Very very disappointed. No follow up afterwards by any management. Their solution $10 off the bill and 2 coupons assuming I would want to return. read more

Excellent host sat us promptly and was very friendly. Unfortunately sat at the table for over 20 minutes as multiple servers went past our table but never bothered to stop by. They were very focused on cleaning tables near us and waiting on other guests but not on us. Not sure what the issue was. Went across the street and received much better service at Savonas. Disappointing as we were staying at the Heartwood and were looking forward to dining here. Won't be back. read more
