This is down home cooking at its best. We stopped in for lunch while visiting Leitchfeild,Kentucky. I had the Country fried steak, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and cornbread. My sister had Meatloaf, green beans, mashed potatoes and a roll everything was delicious and reasonably priced. The service was great and the place was very clean. There was plenty of parking. The meal wasn't fast food. The only downside was it took over an hour to get our food. I had to ask a few times as we were traveling and needed to get back in the road. My husband and I stopped here on our way through town. We were glad we did. We had dinner salad's, frickels, and we split a cheeseburger! The food was delicious. DENIED SERVICE TO MY DISABLED FATHER! We were visiting the area and decided to try this place. We have a support dog and was told she could not come in. She had on a dress and was in a stroller--apparently she didn't "look" like a support animal. They were incredibly rude about it. I'm still appalled by the lady's attitude and snide tone. Local spot with the highest ratings in town. They feature a home style meal with choice of one entree and two sides. I chose fried chicken, mashed potatoes (w/o gravy) and green beans. The crust was crispy and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. The sides were okay but nothing special. My husband ordered a chicken wrap which he was very disappointed with. He felt the chicken was rubbery with cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Very underwhelming. It seemed like all the workers were high school students which is nice. And there was a bulletin board where you could take an envelope for someone who needs a meal. Such a nice touch. Ambience is basic diner from years ago. In fact, there were framed copies of old newspapers. The nearest one to us had a headline about President Roosevelt dying of a cerebral hemorrhage. I'm afraid that I wouldn't recommend for dinner. We came to the area for a wedding and were looking for a place to eat for breakfast other than McDonalds and all the other fast food establishments along the main road. This place went above and beyond my expectations. Being in such a small town and this being one of the only actual restaurants, I wasn't expecting much. But let me say, this place had the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had in my life. I order this dish at almost every breakfast place I go to and this one was by the best. The biscuits were unbelievably fluffy with great flavor and covered in their luscious gravy. The perfect consistency and everything was super fresh! My pancake was also phenomenal. This is for sure a locals joint, and bring cash if you do not want charged a fee for using a card. 10/10 would come back just for an order of the biscuits and gravy. I would like to point out that this is part of the state where there still is a smoking and a non-smoking section. This is probably awesome if you are a smoker and not as good for non smokers. There is a lingering stale smoke smell, but it is masked by the smell of fried things and smoked meat. They had a chalkboard up with new sides and dinner specials. My hubby ordered the fried pork chop dinner with French fries. I ordered the BBQ pork sandwich. Both were tasty. And service was fairly quick. We didn't need refills which probably was a good thing. I think we would have waited a while for refills. My husband loves this place. He like the food options and the restroom was clean. I thought it was just ok. Nothing impressed me. It was decent. First time for us as we were trying to find something on our way back from Rough River. Enjoyed the country-cooked food and friendly atmosphere! We ordered the "Home Style Meal" of pot roast, mashed potatoes and green beans for $7.99. It was simply relaxing and then toured their meat store. What a gem! Off the beaten path and away from hurried city life you can find this restaurant that can hold their own against any city slicker eatery. I was astonished at the variety on the menu. It seems weekends offer "game" dinners and I don't mean sports folks! Quail, rabbit, frog legs, catfish...and a dessert called coonhunters cake. Since the sign outside boasted hand cut steaks, I went city with a choice of prime rib that was finished on a grill. I was not disappointed with a thick cut perfectly cooked medium rare plus deliciously seasoned cut! Real mashed potatoes and superb aujus. I was the oddball because the other dinners at my table went with the all you can eat catfish and truly had...all they could eat because they said it was that good. They have homestyle dinners specials up on the chalkboard. Today was lasagna or meatloaf with two sides $9.99 We went at peak dining hour of 6 p.m. and it is a good thing because they are closed by 8 p.m. Our waitress was young, but did a pretty good job considering the place was busy. we have ate at Farmers Feed Mill Restaurant since we moved here 10 years ago but after tonight never again. We waited 40 minutes for our food and it was cold. When you get french fries and onion rings they should be almost too hot to touch then we're barely warm. My husbands ribs were any better. He brought them home so he could eat them hot. Our waitress, Jodi, didn't smile once, we kept asking why our food was taking so long and was told because I ordered a hamburger. I know hamburgers don't take 30+ minutes to cook. It's like our other food was under a lamp waiting for my hamburger to get done. I have worked in restaurants and my son has managed restaurants and would have never been acceptable.
